1.    The two angels came to Sodom at evening. Lot sat in the gate of Sodom. Lot saw them, and rose up to meet them. He bowed himself with his face to the earth,     And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;     ויבאו  שני  המלאכים 
סדמה  בערב  ולוט
ישב  בשער־סדם
וירא־לוט  ויקם
לקראתם  וישתחו
אפים  ארצה׃
    VYB'aV ShNY HML'aKYM SDMH B'yUrB VLVT YShB BSh'yUr-SDM VYUr'a-LVT VYQM LQUr'aThM VYShThChV 'aPhYM 'aUrTShH.     And two of the messengers come towards Sodom at even, and Lot is sitting at the gate of Sodom, and Lot seeth, and riseth to meet them, and boweth himself -- face to the earth,     veneruntque duo angeli Sodomam vespere sedente Loth in foribus civitatis qui cum vidisset surrexit et ivit obviam eis adoravitque pronus in terra
 
2.    and he said, "See now, my lords, please turn aside into your servant's house, stay all night, wash your feet, and you can rise up early, and go on your way." They said, "No, but we will stay in the street all night."     And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.     ויאמר  הנה  נא־אדני 
סורו  נא  אל־בית
עבדכם  ולינו  ורחצו
רגליכם  והשכמתם
והלכתם  לדרככם
ויאמרו  לא  כי
ברחוב  נלין׃
    VY'aMUr HNH N'a-'aDNY SVUrV N'a 'aL-BYTh 'yBDKM VLYNV VUrChTShV UrGLYKM VHShKMThM VHLKThM LDUrKKM VY'aMUrV L'a KY BUrChVB NLYN.     and he saith, `Lo, I pray you, my lords, turn aside, I pray you, unto the house of your servant, and lodge, and wash your feet -- then ye have risen early and gone on your way;` and they say, `Nay, but in the broad place we do lodge.`     et dixit obsecro domini declinate in domum pueri vestri et manete ibi lavate pedes vestros et mane proficiscimini in viam vestram qui dixerunt minime sed in platea manebimus
 
3.    He urged them greatly, and they came in with him, and entered into his house. He made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.     And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.     ויפצר־בם  מאד 
ויסרו  אליו  ויבאו
אל־ביתו  ויעש  להם
משתה  ומצות  אפה
ויאכלו׃
    VYPhTShUr-BM M'aD VYSUrV 'aLYV VYB'aV 'aL-BYThV VY'ySh LHM MShThH VMTShVTh 'aPhH VY'aKLV.     And he presseth on them greatly, and they turn aside unto him, and come in unto his house; and he maketh for them a banquet, and hath baked unleavened things; and they do eat.     conpulit illos oppido ut deverterent ad eum ingressisque domum illius fecit convivium coxit azyma et comederunt
 
4.    But before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, surrounded the house, both young and old, all the people from every quarter.     But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:     טרם  ישכבו  ואנשי 
העיר  אנשי  סדם
נסבו  על־הבית  מנער
ועד־זקן  כל־  העם
מקצה׃
    TUrM YShKBV V'aNShY H'yYUr 'aNShY SDM NSBV 'yL-HBYTh MN'yUr V'yD-ZQN KL- H'yM MQTShH.     Before they lie down, the men of the city -- men of Sodom -- have come round about against the house, from young even unto aged, all the people from the extremity;     prius autem quam irent cubitum viri civitatis vallaverunt domum a puero usque ad senem omnis populus simul
 
5.    They called to Lot, and said to him, "Where are the men who came in to you this night? Bring them out to us, that we may have sex with them."     And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.     ויקראו  אל־לוט 
ויאמרו  לו  איה
האנשים  אשר־באו
אליך  הלילה  הוציאם
אלינו  ונדעה  אתם׃
    VYQUr'aV 'aL-LVT VY'aMUrV LV 'aYH H'aNShYM 'aShUr-B'aV 'aLYK HLYLH HVTShY'aM 'aLYNV VND'yH 'aThM.     and they call unto Lot and say to him, `Where are the men who have come in unto thee to-night? bring them out unto us, and we know them.`     vocaveruntque Loth et dixerunt ei ubi sunt viri qui introierunt ad te nocte educ illos huc ut cognoscamus eos
 
6.    Lot went out to them to the door, and shut the door after him.     And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,     ויצא  אלהם  לוט 
הפתחה  והדלת  סגר
אחריו׃
    VYTSh'a 'aLHM LVT HPhThChH VHDLTh SGUr 'aChUrYV.     And Lot goeth out unto them, to the opening, and the door hath shut behind him,     egressus ad eos Loth post tergum adcludens ostium ait
 
7.    He said, "Please, my brothers, don't act so wickedly.     And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.     ויאמר  אל־נא  אחי 
תרעו׃
    VY'aMUr 'aL-N'a 'aChY ThUr'yV.     and saith, `Do not, I pray you, my brethren, do evil;     nolite quaeso fratres mei nolite malum hoc facere
 
8.    See now, I have two virgin daughters. Please let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them what seems good to you. Only don't do anything to these men, because they have come under the shadow of my roof."     Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.     הנה־נא  לי  שתי 
בנות  אשר  לא־ידעו
איש  אוציאה־נא
אתהן  אליכם  ועשו
להן  כטוב  בעיניכם
רק  לאנשים  האל
אל־תעשו  דבר
כי־על־כן  באו  בצל
קרתי׃
    HNH-N'a LY ShThY BNVTh 'aShUr L'a-YD'yV 'aYSh 'aVTShY'aH-N'a 'aThHN 'aLYKM V'yShV LHN KTVB B'yYNYKM UrQ L'aNShYM H'aL 'aL-Th'yShV DBUr KY-'yL-KN B'aV BTShL QUrThY.     lo, I pray you, I have two daughters, who have not known any one; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do to them as is good in your eyes; only to these men do not anything, for therefore have they come in within the shadow of my roof.`     habeo duas filias quae necdum cognoverunt virum educam eas ad vos et abutimini eis sicut placuerit vobis dummodo viris istis nihil faciatis mali quia ingressi sunt sub umbraculum tegminis mei
 
9.    They said, "Stand back!" Then they said, "This one fellow came in to live as a foreigner, and he appoints himself a judge. Now will we deal worse with you, than with them!" They pressed hard on the man Lot, and drew near to break the door.     And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.     ויאמרו  גש־הלאה 
ויאמרו  האחד
בא־לגור  וישפט
שפוט  עתה  נרע  לך
מהם  ויפצרו  באיש
בלוט  מאד  ויגשו
לשבר  הדלת׃
    VY'aMUrV GSh-HL'aH VY'aMUrV H'aChD B'a-LGVUr VYShPhT ShPhVT 'yThH NUr'y LK MHM VYPhTShUrV B'aYSh BLVT M'aD VYGShV LShBUr HDLTh.     And they say, `Come nigh hither;` they say also, `This one hath come in to sojourn, and he certainly judgeth! now, we do evil to thee more than to them;` and they press against the man, against Lot greatly, and come nigh to break the door.     at illi dixerunt recede illuc et rursus ingressus es inquiunt ut advena numquid ut iudices te ergo ipsum magis quam hos adfligemus vimque faciebant Loth vehementissime iam prope erat ut refringerent fores
 
10.    But the men put forth their hand, and brought Lot into the house to them, and shut the door.     But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.     וישלחו  האנשים 
את־ידם  ויביאו
את־לוט  אליהם
הביתה  ואת־הדלת
סגרו׃
    VYShLChV H'aNShYM 'aTh-YDM VYBY'aV 'aTh-LVT 'aLYHM HBYThH V'aTh-HDLTh SGUrV.     And the men put forth their hand, and bring in Lot unto them, into the house, and have shut the door;     et ecce miserunt manum viri et introduxerunt ad se Loth cluseruntque ostium
 
11.    They struck the men who were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves to find the door.     And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.     ואת־האנשים 
אשר־פתח  הבית  הכו
בסנורים  מקטן
ועד־גדול  וילאו
למצא  הפתח׃
    V'aTh-H'aNShYM 'aShUr-PhThCh HBYTh HKV BSNVUrYM MQTN V'yD-GDVL VYL'aV LMTSh'a HPhThCh.     and the men who are at the opening of the house they have smitten with blindness, from small even unto great, and they weary themselves to find the opening.     et eos qui erant foris percusserunt caecitate a minimo usque ad maximum ita ut ostium invenire non possent
 
12.    The men said to Lot, "Do you have anybody else here? Sons-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whoever you have in the city, bring them out of the place:     And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:     ויאמרו  האנשים 
אל־לוט  עד  מי־לך
פה  חתן  ובניך
ובנתיך  וכל  אשר־לך
בעיר  הוצא
מן־המקום׃
    VY'aMUrV H'aNShYM 'aL-LVT 'yD MY-LK PhH ChThN VBNYK VBNThYK VKL 'aShUr-LK B'yYUr HVTSh'a MN-HMQVM.     And the men say unto Lot, `Whom hast thou here still? son-in-law, thy sons also, and thy daughters, and all whom thou hast in the city, bring out from this place;     dixerunt autem ad Loth habes hic tuorum quempiam generum aut filios aut filias omnes qui tui sunt educ de urbe hac
 
13.    for we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before Yahweh that Yahweh has sent us to destroy it."     For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.     כי־משחתים  אנחנו 
את־המקום  הזה
כי־גדלה  צעקתם
את־פני  יהוה
וישלחנו  יהוה
לשחתה׃
    KY-MShChThYM 'aNChNV 'aTh-HMQVM HZH KY-GDLH TSh'yQThM 'aTh-PhNY YHVH VYShLChNV YHVH LShChThH.     for we are destroying this place, for their cry hath been great before the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah doth send us to destroy it.`     delebimus enim locum istum eo quod increverit clamor eorum coram Domino qui misit nos ut perdamus illos
 
14.    Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters, and said, "Get up! Get out of this place, for Yahweh will destroy the city." But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be joking.     And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.     ויצא  לוט  וידבר 
אל־חתניו  לקחי
בנתיו  ויאמר  קומו
צאו  מן־המקום  הזה
כי־משחית  יהוה
את־העיר  ויהי
כמצחק  בעיני
חתניו׃
    VYTSh'a LVT VYDBUr 'aL-ChThNYV LQChY BNThYV VY'aMUr QVMV TSh'aV MN-HMQVM HZH KY-MShChYTh YHVH 'aTh-H'yYUr VYHY KMTShChQ B'yYNY ChThNYV.     And Lot goeth out, and speaketh unto his sons-in-law, those taking his daughters, and saith, `Rise, go out from this place, for Jehovah is destroying the city;` and he is as one mocking in the eyes of his sons-in-law.     egressus itaque Loth locutus est ad generos suos qui accepturi erant filias eius et dixit surgite egredimini de loco isto quia delebit Dominus civitatem hanc et visus est eis quasi ludens loqui
 
15.    When the morning came, then the angels hurried Lot, saying, "Get up! Take your wife, and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the iniquity of the city."     And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.     וכמו  השחר  עלה 
ויאיצו  המלאכים
בלוט  לאמר  קום  קח
את־אשתך  ואת־  שתי
בנתיך  הנמצאת
פן־תספה  בעון
העיר׃
    VKMV HShChUr 'yLH VY'aYTShV HML'aKYM BLVT L'aMUr QVM QCh 'aTh-'aShThK V'aTh- ShThY BNThYK HNMTSh'aTh PhN-ThSPhH B'yVN H'yYUr.     And when the dawn hath ascended, then the messengers press upon Lot, saying, `Rise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters who are found present, lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.`     cumque esset mane cogebant eum angeli dicentes surge et tolle uxorem tuam et duas filias quas habes ne et tu pariter pereas in scelere civitatis
 
16.    But he lingered; and the men grabbed his hand, his wife's hand, and his two daughters' hands, Yahweh being merciful to him; and they took him out, and set him outside of the city.     And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.     ויתמהמה  ויחזיקו 
האנשים  בידו
וביד־אשתו  וביד
שתי  בנתיו  בחמלת
יהוה  עליו  ויצאהו
וינחהו  מחוץ  לעיר׃
    VYThMHMH VYChZYQV H'aNShYM BYDV VBYD-'aShThV VBYD ShThY BNThYV BChMLTh YHVH 'yLYV VYTSh'aHV VYNChHV MChVTSh L'yYUr.     And he lingereth, and the men lay hold on his hand, and on the hand of his wife, and on the hand of his two daughters, through the mercy of Jehovah unto him, and they bring him out, and cause him to rest without the city.     dissimulante illo adprehenderunt manum eius et manum uxoris ac duarum filiarum eius eo quod parceret Dominus illi
 
17.    It came to pass, when they had taken them out, that he said, "Escape for your life! Don't look behind you, and don't stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be consumed!"     And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.     ויהי  כהוציאם  אתם 
החוצה  ויאמר  המלט
על־נפשך  אל־תביט
אחריך  ואל־  תעמד
בכל־הככר  ההרה
המלט  פן־תספה׃
    VYHY KHVTShY'aM 'aThM HChVTShH VY'aMUr HMLT 'yL-NPhShK 'aL-ThBYT 'aChUrYK V'aL- Th'yMD BKL-HKKUr HHUrH HMLT PhN-ThSPhH.     And it cometh to pass when he hath brought them out without, that he saith, `Escape for thy life; look not expectingly behind thee, nor stand thou in all the circuit; to the mountain escape, lest thou be consumed.`     et eduxerunt eum posueruntque extra civitatem ibi locutus est ad eum salva animam tuam noli respicere post tergum nec stes in omni circa regione sed in monte salvum te fac ne et tu simul pereas
 
18.    Lot said to them, "Oh, not so, my lord.     And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my LORD:     ויאמר  לוט  אלהם 
אל־נא  אדני׃
    VY'aMUr LVT 'aLHM 'aL-N'a 'aDNY.     And Lot saith unto them, `Not so, I pray thee, my lord;     dixitque Loth ad eos quaeso Domine mi
 
19.    See now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have magnified your loving kindness, which you have shown to me in saving my life. I can't escape to the mountain, lest evil overtake me, and I die.     Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:     הנה־נא  מצא  עבדך 
חן  בעיניך  ותגדל
חסדך  אשר  עשית
עמדי  להחיות  את־
נפשי  ואנכי  לא
אוכל  להמלט  ההרה
פן־תדבקני  הרעה
ומתי׃
    HNH-N'a MTSh'a 'yBDK ChN B'yYNYK VThGDL ChSDK 'aShUr 'yShYTh 'yMDY LHChYVTh 'aTh- NPhShY V'aNKY L'a 'aVKL LHMLT HHUrH PhN-ThDBQNY HUr'yH VMThY.     lo, I pray thee, thy servant hath found grace in thine eyes, and thou dost make great thy kindness which thou hast done with me by saving my life, and I am unable to escape to the mountain, lest the evil cleave to me, and I have died;     quia invenit servus tuus gratiam coram te et magnificasti misericordiam tuam quam fecisti mecum ut salvares animam meam nec possum in monte salvari ne forte adprehendat me malum et moriar
 
20.    See now, this city is near to flee to, and it is a little one. Oh let me escape there (isn't it a little one?), and my soul will live."     Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.     הנה־נא  העיר  הזאת 
קרבה  לנוס  שמה
והוא  מצער  אמלטה
נא  שמה  הלא  מצער
הוא  ותחי  נפשי׃
    HNH-N'a H'yYUr HZ'aTh QUrBH LNVS ShMH VHV'a MTSh'yUr 'aMLTH N'a ShMH HL'a MTSh'yUr HV'a VThChY NPhShY.     lo, I pray thee, this city is near to flee thither, and it is little; let me escape, I pray thee, thither, (is it not little?) and my soul doth live.`     est civitas haec iuxta ad quam possum fugere parva et salvabor in ea numquid non modica est et vivet anima mea
 
21.    He said to him, "Behold, I have granted your request concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken.     And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.     ויאמר  אליו  הנה 
נשאתי  פניך  גם
לדבר  הזה  לבלתי
הפכי  את־העיר  אשר
דברת׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLYV HNH NSh'aThY PhNYK GM LDBUr HZH LBLThY HPhKY 'aTh-H'yYUr 'aShUr DBUrTh.     And he saith unto him, `Lo, I have accepted thy face also for this thing, without overthrowing the city for which thou hast spoken;     dixitque ad eum ecce etiam in hoc suscepi preces tuas ut non subvertam urbem pro qua locutus es
 
22.    Hurry, escape there, for I can't do anything until you get there." Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.{Zoar means "little."}     Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.     מהר  המלט  שמה  כי 
לא  אוכל  לעשות  דבר
עד־באך  שמה  על־כן
קרא  שם־  העיר
צוער׃
    MHUr HMLT ShMH KY L'a 'aVKL L'yShVTh DBUr 'yD-B'aK ShMH 'yL-KN QUr'a ShM- H'yYUr TShV'yUr.     haste, escape thither, for I am not able to do anything till thine entering thither;` therefore hath he calleth the name of the city Zoar.     festina et salvare ibi quia non potero facere quicquam donec ingrediaris illuc idcirco vocatum est nomen urbis illius Segor
 
23.    The sun had risen on the earth when Lot came to Zoar.     The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.     השמש  יצא  על־הארץ 
ולוט  בא  צערה׃
    HShMSh YTSh'a 'yL-H'aUrTSh VLVT B'a TSh'yUrH.     The sun hath gone out on the earth, and Lot hath entered into Zoar,     sol egressus est super terram et Loth ingressus est in Segor
 
24.    Then Yahweh rained on Sodom and on Gomorrah sulfur and fire from Yahweh out of the sky.     Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;     ויהוה  המטיר 
על־סדם  ועל־עמרה
גפרית  ואש  מאת
יהוה  מן־השמים׃
    VYHVH HMTYUr 'yL-SDM V'yL-'yMUrH GPhUrYTh V'aSh M'aTh YHVH MN-HShMYM.     and Jehovah hath rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Jehovah, from the heavens;     igitur Dominus pluit super Sodomam et Gomorram sulphur et ignem a Domino de caelo
 
25.    He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew on the ground.     And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.     ויהפך  את־הערים 
האל  ואת  כל־הככר
ואת  כל־ישבי  הערים
וצמח  האדמה׃
    VYHPhK 'aTh-H'yUrYM H'aL V'aTh KL-HKKUr V'aTh KL-YShBY H'yUrYM VTShMCh H'aDMH.     and He overthroweth these cities, and all the circuit, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which is shooting up from the ground.     et subvertit civitates has et omnem circa regionem universos habitatores urbium et cuncta terrae virentia
 
26.    But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.     But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.     ותבט  אשתו  מאחריו 
ותהי  נציב  מלח׃
    VThBT 'aShThV M'aChUrYV VThHY NTShYB MLCh.     And his wife looketh expectingly from behind him, and she is -- a pillar of salt!     respiciensque uxor eius post se versa est in statuam salis
 
27.    Abraham got up early in the morning to the place where he had stood before Yahweh.     And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:     וישכם  אברהם  בבקר 
אל־המקום  אשר־עמד
שם  את־פני  יהוה׃
    VYShKM 'aBUrHM BBQUr 'aL-HMQVM 'aShUr-'yMD ShM 'aTh-PhNY YHVH.     And Abraham riseth early in the morning, unto the place where he hath stood before the face of Jehovah;     Abraham autem consurgens mane ubi steterat prius cum Domino
 
28.    He looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and looked, and saw that the smoke of the land went up as the smoke of a furnace.     And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.     וישקף  על־פני  סדם 
ועמרה  ועל־כל־פני
ארץ  הככר  וירא
והנה  עלה  קיטר
הארץ  כקיטר  הכבשן׃
    VYShQPh 'yL-PhNY SDM V'yMUrH V'yL-KL-PhNY 'aUrTSh HKKUr VYUr'a VHNH 'yLH QYTUr H'aUrTSh KQYTUr HKBShN.     and he looketh on the face of Sodom and Gomorrah, and on all the face of the land of the circuit, and seeth, and lo, the smoke of the land went up as smoke of the furnace.     intuitus est Sodomam et Gomorram et universam terram regionis illius viditque ascendentem favillam de terra quasi fornacis fumum
 
29.    It happened, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the middle of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot lived.     And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.     ויהי  בשחת  אלהים 
את־ערי  הככר  ויזכר

את־הערים  אשר־ישב
בהן  לוט׃

30.    Lot went up out of Zoar, and lived in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he was afraid to live in Zoar. He lived in a cave with his two daughters.     And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.     ויעל  לוט  מצוער

לבוא  עלינו  כדרך

    VTh'aMUr HBKYUrH 'aL-HTSh'yYUrH 'aBYNV ZQN V'aYSh 'aYN B'aUrTSh LBV'a 'yLYNV KDUrK KL-H'aUrTSh.     And the first-born saith unto the younger, `Our father is old, and a man there is not in the earth to come in unto us, as is the way of all the earth;     dixitque maior ad minorem pater noster senex est et nullus virorum remansit in terra qui possit ingredi ad nos iuxta morem universae terrae
 
32.    Come, let's make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve our father's seed."     Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.     לכה  נשקה  את־אבינו 
יין  ונשכבה  עמו
ונחיה  מאבינו  זרע׃
    LKH NShQH 'aTh-'aBYNV YYN VNShKBH 'yMV VNChYH M'aBYNV ZUr'y.     come, we cause our father to drink wine, and lie with him, and preserve from our father -- a seed.`     veni inebriemus eum vino dormiamusque cum eo ut servare possimus ex patre nostro semen
 
33.    They made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father. He didn't know when she lay down, nor when she arose.     And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.     ותשקין  את־אביהן 
יין  בלילה  הוא
ותבא  הבכירה  ותשכב
את־אביה  ולא־  ידע

34.    It came to pass on the next day, that the firstborn said to the younger, "Behold, I lay last night with my father. Let us make him drink wine again, tonight. You go in, and lie with him, that we may preserve our father's seed."     And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.     ויהי  ממחרת  ותאמר 
הבכירה  אל־הצעירה
הן־שכבתי  אמש
את־אבי  נשקנו  יין
גם־הלילה  ובאי
שכבי  עמו  ונחיה
מאבינו  זרע׃
    VYHY MMChUrTh VTh'aMUr HBKYUrH 'aL-HTSh'yYUrH HN-ShKBThY 'aMSh 'aTh-'aBY NShQNV YYN GM-HLYLH VB'aY ShKBY 'yMV VNChYH M'aBYNV ZUr'y.     And it cometh to pass, on the morrow, that the first-born saith unto the younger, `Lo, I have lain yesterday-night with my father: we cause him to drink wine also to-night, and go thou in, lie with him, and we preserve from our father -- a seed.`     altera quoque die dixit maior ad minorem ecce dormivi heri cum patre meo demus ei bibere vinum etiam hac nocte et dormies cum eo ut salvemus semen de patre nostro
 
35.    They made their father drink wine that night also. The younger went and lay with him. He didn't know when she lay down, nor when she got up.     And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.     ותשקין  גם  בלילה 
ההוא  את־אביהן  יין
ותקם  הצעירה  ותשכב
עמו  ולא־  ידע
בשכבה  ובקמה׃
    VThShQYN GM BLYLH HHV'a 'aTh-'aBYHN YYN VThQM HTSh'yYUrH VThShKB 'yMV VL'a- YD'y BShKBH VBQMH.     And they cause their father to drink wine on that night also, and the younger riseth and lieth with him, and he hath not known in her lying down, or in her rising up.     dederunt et illa nocte patri vinum ingressaque minor filia dormivit cum eo et nec tunc quidem sensit quando concubuerit vel quando illa surrexerit
 
36.    Thus both of Lot's daughters were with child by their father.     Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.     ותהרין  שתי 
בנות־לוט  מאביהן׃
    VThHUrYN ShThY BNVTh-LVT M'aBYHN.     And the two daughters of Lot conceive from their father,     conceperunt ergo duae filiae Loth de patre suo
 
37.    The firstborn bore a son, and named him Moab. He is the father of the Moabites to this day.     And the first born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.     ותלד  הבכירה  בן 
ותקרא  שמו  מואב
הוא  אבי־מואב
עד־היום׃
    VThLD HBKYUrH BN VThQUr'a ShMV MV'aB HV'a 'aBY-MV'aB 'yD-HYVM.     and the first-born beareth a son, and calleth his name Moab; he is father of Moab unto this day;     peperitque maior filium et vocavit nomen eius Moab ipse est pater Moabitarum usque in praesentem diem
 
38.    The younger also bore a son, and called his name Ben Ammi. He is the father of the children of Ammon to this day.     And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.     והצעירה  גם־הוא

בן־עמי  הוא  אבי
בני־עמון  עד־
