1.    The heavens and the earth were finished, and all their vast array.     Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.     ויכלו  השמים  והארץ 
וכל־צבאם׃

3.    God blessed the seventh day, and made it holy, because he rested in it from all his work which he had created and made.     And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.     ויברך  אלהים

5.    No plant of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for Yahweh God had not caused it to rain on the earth. There was not a man to till the ground,     And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.     וכל  שיח  השדה  טרם

6.    but a mist went up from the earth, and watered the whole surface of the ground.     But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.     ואד  יעלה  מן־הארץ

7.    Yahweh God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.     And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.     וייצר  יהוה  אלהים

    VYYTShUr YHVH 'aLHYM 'aTh-H'aDM 'yPhUr MN-H'aDMH VYPhCh B'aPhYV NShMTh ChYYM VYHY H'aDM LNPhSh ChYH.     And Jehovah God formeth the man -- dust from the ground, and breatheth into his nostrils breath of life, and the man becometh a living creature.     formavit igitur Dominus Deus hominem de limo terrae et inspiravit in faciem eius spiraculum vitae et factus est homo in animam viventem
 
8.    Yahweh God planted a garden eastward, in Eden, and there he put the man whom he had formed.     And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.     ויטע  יהוה  אלהים 
גן־בעדן  מקדם  וישם
שם  את־האדם  אשר
יצר׃
    VYT'y YHVH 'aLHYM GN-B'yDN MQDM VYShM ShM 'aTh-H'aDM 'aShUr YTShUr.     And Jehovah God planteth a garden in Eden, at the east, and He setteth there the man whom He hath formed;     plantaverat autem Dominus Deus paradisum voluptatis a principio in quo posuit hominem quem formaverat
 
9.    Out of the ground Yahweh God made every tree to grow that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the middle of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.     And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.     ויצמח  יהוה  אלהים 
מן־האדמה  כל־עץ
נחמד  למראה  וטוב
למאכל  ועץ  החיים
בתוך  הגן  ועץ  הדעת
טוב  ורע׃
    VYTShMCh YHVH 'aLHYM MN-H'aDMH KL-'yTSh NChMD LMUr'aH VTVB LM'aKL V'yTSh HChYYM BThVK HGN V'yTSh HD'yTh TVB VUr'y.     and Jehovah God causeth to sprout from the ground every tree desirable for appearance, and good for food, and the tree of life in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.     produxitque Dominus Deus de humo omne lignum pulchrum visu et ad vescendum suave lignum etiam vitae in medio paradisi lignumque scientiae boni et mali

    VNHUr YTSh'a M'yDN LHShQVTh 'aTh-HGN VMShM YPhUrD VHYH L'aUrB'yH Ur'aShYM.     And a river is going out from Eden to water the garden, and from thence it is parted, and hath become four chief rivers;     et fluvius egrediebatur de loco voluptatis ad inrigandum paradisum qui inde dividitur in quattuor capita
 
11.    The name of the first is Pishon: this is the one which flows through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;     The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;     שם  האחד  פישון  הוא

    ShM H'aChD PhYShVN HV'a HSBB 'aTh KL-'aUrTSh HChVYLH 'aShUr-ShM HZHB.     the name of the one is Pison, it is that which is surrounding the whole land of the Havilah where the gold is,     nomen uni Phison ipse est qui circuit omnem terram Evilat ubi nascitur aurum
 
12.    and the gold of that land is good. There is aromatic resin and the onyx stone.     And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.     וזהב  הארץ  ההוא 
טוב  שם  הבדלח  ואבן
השהם׃
    VZHB H'aUrTSh HHV'a TVB ShM HBDLCh V'aBN HShHM.     and the gold of that land is good, there is the bdolach and the shoham stone;     et aurum terrae illius optimum est ibique invenitur bdellium et lapis onychinus
 
13.    The name of the second river is Gihon: the same river that flows through the whole land of Cush.     And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.     ושם־הנהר  השני 
גיחון  הוא  הסובב
את  כל־ארץ  כוש׃
    VShM-HNHUr HShNY GYChVN HV'a HSVBB 'aTh KL-'aUrTSh KVSh.     and the name of the second river is Gibon, it is that which is surrounding the whole land of Cush;     et nomen fluvio secundo Geon ipse est qui circuit omnem terram Aethiopiae
 
14.    The name of the third river is Hiddekel: this is the one which flows in front of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.     And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.     ושם  הנהר  השלישי 
חדקל  הוא  ההלך
קדמת  אשור  והנהר

    VShM HNHUr HShLYShY ChDQL HV'a HHLK QDMTh 'aShVUr VHNHUr HUrBY'yY HV'a PhUrTh.     and the name of the third river is Hiddekel, it is that which is going east of Asshur; and the fourth river is Phrat.     nomen vero fluminis tertii Tigris ipse vadit contra Assyrios fluvius autem quartus ipse est Eufrates
 
15.    Yahweh God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.     And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.     ויקח  יהוה  אלהים 
את־האדם  וינחהו
בגן־עדן  לעבדה
ולשמרה׃
    VYQCh YHVH 'aLHYM 'aTh-H'aDM VYNChHV BGN-'yDN L'yBDH VLShMUrH.     And Jehovah God taketh the man, and causeth him to rest in the garden of Eden, to serve it, and to keep it.     tulit ergo Dominus Deus hominem et posuit eum in paradiso voluptatis ut operaretur et custodiret illum
 
16.    Yahweh God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;     And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:     ויצו  יהוה  אלהים

עץ־הגן  אכל  תאכל׃
    VYTShV YHVH 'aLHYM 'yL-H'aDM L'aMUr MKL 'yTSh-HGN 'aKL Th'aKL.     And Jehovah God layeth a charge on the man, saying, `Of every tree of the garden eating thou dost eat;     praecepitque ei dicens ex omni ligno paradisi comede
 
17.    but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it; for in the day that you eat of it you will surely die."     But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.     ומעץ  הדעת  טוב  ורע 
לא  תאכל  ממנו  כי
ביום  אכלך  ממנו
מות  תמות׃
    VM'yTSh HD'yTh TVB VUr'y L'a Th'aKL MMNV KY BYVM 'aKLK MMNV MVTh ThMVTh.     and of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou dost not eat of it, for in the day of thine eating of it -- dying thou dost die.`     de ligno autem scientiae boni et mali ne comedas in quocumque enim die comederis ex eo morte morieris
 
18.    Yahweh God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him."     And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.     ויאמר  יהוה  אלהים 
לא־טוב  היות  האדם
לבדו  אעשה־לו  עזר
כנגדו׃
    VY'aMUr YHVH 'aLHYM L'a-TVB HYVTh H'aDM LBDV 'a'yShH-LV 'yZUr KNGDV.     And Jehovah God saith, `Not good for the man to be alone, I do make to him an helper -- as his counterpart.`     dixit quoque Dominus Deus non est bonum esse hominem solum faciamus ei adiutorium similem sui
 
19.    Out of the ground Yahweh God formed every animal of the field, and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.     And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.     ויצר  יהוה  אלהים 
מן־האדמה  כל־חית
השדה  ואת  כל־עוף
השמים  ויבא
אל־האדם  לראות
מה־יקרא־לו  וכל
אשר  יקרא־לו  האדם
נפש  חיה  הוא  שמו׃

20.    The man gave names to all livestock, and to the birds of the sky, and to every animal of the field; but for man there was not found a helper suitable for him.     And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.     ויקרא  האדם  שמות 
לכל־הבהמה  ולעוף

השדה  ולאדם  לא־
מצא  עזר  כנגדו׃
    VYQUr'a H'aDM ShMVTh LKL-HBHMH VL'yVPh HShMYM VLKL ChYTh HShDH VL'aDM L'a- MTSh'a 'yZUr KNGDV.     And the man calleth names to all the cattle, and to fowl of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; and to man hath not been found an helper -- as his counterpart.     appellavitque Adam nominibus suis cuncta animantia et universa volatilia caeli et omnes bestias terrae Adam vero non inveniebatur adiutor similis eius
 
21.    Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to fall on the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.     And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;     ויפל  יהוה  אלהים 
תרדמה  על־האדם
ויישן  ויקח  אחת
מצלעתיו  ויסגר  בשר
תחתנה׃
    VYPhL YHVH 'aLHYM ThUrDMH 'yL-H'aDM VYYShN VYQCh 'aChTh MTShL'yThYV VYSGUr BShUr ThChThNH.     And Jehovah God causeth a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he sleepeth, and He taketh one of his ribs, and closeth up flesh in its stead.     inmisit ergo Dominus Deus soporem in Adam cumque obdormisset tulit unam de costis eius et replevit carnem pro ea
 
22.    He made the rib, which Yahweh God had taken from the man, into a woman, and brought her to the man.     And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.     ויבן  יהוה  אלהים 
את־הצלע  אשר־לקח
מן־האדם  לאשה
ויבאה  אל־האדם׃
    VYBN YHVH 'aLHYM 'aTh-HTShL'y 'aShUr-LQCh MN-H'aDM L'aShH VYB'aH 'aL-H'aDM.     And Jehovah God buildeth up the rib which He hath taken out of the man into a woman, and bringeth her in unto the man;     et aedificavit Dominus Deus costam quam tulerat de Adam in mulierem et adduxit eam ad Adam
 
23.    The man said, "This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She will be called 'woman,' because she was taken out of Man."     And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.     ויאמר  האדם  זאת

    VY'aMUr H'aDM Z'aTh HPh'yM 'yTShM M'yTShMY VBShUr MBShUrY LZ'aTh YQUr'a 'aShH KY M'aYSh LQChH-Z'aTh.     and the man saith, `This is the proper step! bone of my bone, and flesh of my flesh!` for this it is called Woman, for from a man hath this been taken;     dixitque Adam hoc nunc os ex ossibus meis et caro de carne mea haec vocabitur virago quoniam de viro sumpta est
 
24.    Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh.     Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.     על־כן  יעזב־איש

לבשר  אחד׃

25.    They were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.     And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.     ויהיו  שניהם

    VYHYV ShNYHM 'yUrVMYM H'aDM V'aShThV VL'a YThBShShV.     And they are both of them naked, the man and his wife, and they are not ashamed of themselves.     erant autem uterque nudi Adam scilicet et uxor eius et non erubescebant
