1.    Abraham traveled from there toward the land of the South, and lived between Kadesh and Shur. He lived as a foreigner in Gerar.     And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.     ויסע  משם  אברהם 
ארצה  הנגב  וישב
בין־קדש  ובין  שור
ויגר  בגרר׃
    VYS'y MShM 'aBUrHM 'aUrTShH HNGB VYShB BYN-QDSh VBYN ShVUr VYGUr BGUrUr.     And Abraham journeyeth from thence toward the land of the south, and dwelleth between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourneth in Gerar;     profectus inde Abraham in terram australem habitavit inter Cades et Sur et peregrinatus est in Geraris
 
2.    Abraham said about Sarah his wife, "She is my sister." Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.     And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.     ויאמר  אברהם 
אל־שרה  אשתו  אחתי
הוא  וישלח  אבימלך
מלך  גרר  ויקח  את־
שרה׃
    VY'aMUr 'aBUrHM 'aL-ShUrH 'aShThV 'aChThY HV'a VYShLCh 'aBYMLK MLK GUrUr VYQCh 'aTh- ShUrH.     and Abraham saith concerning Sarah his wife, `She is my sister;` and Abimelech king of Gerar sendeth and taketh Sarah.     dixitque de Sarra uxore sua soror mea est misit ergo Abimelech rex Gerarae et tulit eam
 
3.    But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him, "Behold, you are a dead man, because of the woman whom you have taken. For she is a man's wife."     But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.     ויבא  אלהים 
אל־אבימלך  בחלום
הלילה  ויאמר  לו
הנך  מת  על־האשה
אשר־  לקחת  והוא
בעלת  בעל׃
    VYB'a 'aLHYM 'aL-'aBYMLK BChLVM HLYLH VY'aMUr LV HNK MTh 'yL-H'aShH 'aShUr- LQChTh VHV'a B'yLTh B'yL.     And God cometh in unto Abimelech in a dream of the night, and saith to him, `Lo, thou art a dead man, because of the woman whom thou hast taken -- and she married to a husband.`     venit autem Deus ad Abimelech per somnium noctis et ait ei en morieris propter mulierem quam tulisti habet enim virum
 
4.    Now Abimelech had not come near her. He said, "Lord, will you kill even a righteous nation?     But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, LORD, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?     ואבימלך  לא  קרב 
אליה  ויאמר  אדני
הגוי  גם־צדיק
תהרג׃
    V'aBYMLK L'a QUrB 'aLYH VY'aMUr 'aDNY HGVY GM-TShDYQ ThHUrG.     And Abimelech hath not drawn near unto her, and he saith, `Lord, also a righteous nation dost thou slay?     Abimelech vero non tetigerat eam et ait Domine num gentem ignorantem et iustam interficies
 
5.    Didn't he tell me, 'She is my sister?' She, even she herself, said, 'He is my brother.' In the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands have I done this."     Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.     הלא  הוא  אמר־לי 
אחתי  הוא
והיא־גם־הוא  אמרה
אחי  הוא  בתם־לבבי
ובנקין  כפי  עשיתי
זאת׃
    HL'a HV'a 'aMUr-LY 'aChThY HV'a VHY'a-GM-HV'a 'aMUrH 'aChY HV'a BThM-LBBY VBNQYN KPhY 'yShYThY Z'aTh.     hath not he himself said to me, She is my sister! and she, even she herself, said, He is my brother; in the integrity of my heart, and in the innocency of my hands, I have done this.`     nonne ipse dixit mihi soror mea est et ipsa ait frater meus est in simplicitate cordis mei et munditia manuum mearum feci hoc
 
6.    God said to him in the dream, "Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also withheld you from sinning against me. Therefore I didn't allow you to touch her.     And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.     ויאמר  אליו  האלהים 
בחלם  גם  אנכי
ידעתי  כי  בתם־לבבך
עשית  זאת  ואחשך
גם־אנכי  אותך
מחטו־לי  על־כן
לא־נתתיך  לנגע
אליה׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLYV H'aLHYM BChLM GM 'aNKY YD'yThY KY BThM-LBBK 'yShYTh Z'aTh V'aChShK GM-'aNKY 'aVThK MChTV-LY 'yL-KN L'a-NThThYK LNG'y 'aLYH.     And God saith unto him in the dream, `Yea, I -- I have known that in the integrity of thy heart thou hast done this, and I withhold thee, even I, from sinning against Me, therefore I have not suffered thee to come against her;     dixitque ad eum Deus et ego scio quod simplici corde feceris et ideo custodivi te ne peccares in me et non dimisi ut tangeres eam
 
7.    Now therefore, restore the man's wife. For he is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live. If you don't restore her, know for sure that you will die, you, and all who are yours."     Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.     ועתה  השב  אשת־האיש 
כי־נביא  הוא
ויתפלל  בעדך  וחיה
ואם־אינך  משיב  דע
כי־מות  תמות  אתה
וכל־אשר־לך׃
    V'yThH HShB 'aShTh-H'aYSh KY-NBY'a HV'a VYThPhLL B'yDK VChYH V'aM-'aYNK MShYB D'y KY-MVTh ThMVTh 'aThH VKL-'aShUr-LK.     and now send back the man`s wife, for he is inspired, and he doth pray for thee, and live thou; and if thou do not send back, know that dying thou dost die, thou, and all that thou hast.`     nunc igitur redde uxorem viro suo quia propheta est et orabit pro te et vives si autem nolueris reddere scito quod morte morieris tu et omnia quae tua sunt
 
8.    Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ear. The men were very scared.     Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.     וישכם  אבימלך  בבקר 
ויקרא  לכל־עבדיו
וידבר
את־כל־הדברים  האלה
באזניהם  וייראו
האנשים  מאד׃
    VYShKM 'aBYMLK BBQUr VYQUr'a LKL-'yBDYV VYDBUr 'aTh-KL-HDBUrYM H'aLH B'aZNYHM VYYUr'aV H'aNShYM M'aD.     And Abimelech riseth early in the morning, and calleth for all his servants, and speaketh all these words in their ears; and the men fear exceedingly;     statimque de nocte consurgens Abimelech vocavit omnes servos suos et locutus est universa verba haec in auribus eorum timueruntque omnes viri valde
 
9.    Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, "What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done!"     Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.     ויקרא  אבימלך 
לאברהם  ויאמר  לו
מה־עשית  לנו
ומה־חטאתי  לך
כי־הבאת  עלי
ועל־ממלכתי  חטאה
גדלה  מעשים  אשר
לא־יעשו  עשית
עמדי׃
    VYQUr'a 'aBYMLK L'aBUrHM VY'aMUr LV MH-'yShYTh LNV VMH-ChT'aThY LK KY-HB'aTh 'yLY V'yL-MMLKThY ChT'aH GDLH M'yShYM 'aShUr L'a-Y'yShV 'yShYTh 'yMDY.     and Abimelech calleth for Abraham, and saith to him, `What hast thou done to us? and what have I sinned against thee, that thou hast brought upon me, and upon my kingdom, a great sin? works which are not done thou hast done with me.`     vocavit autem Abimelech etiam Abraham et dixit ei quid fecisti nobis quid peccavimus in te quia induxisti super me et super regnum meum peccatum grande quae non debuisti facere fecisti nobis
 
10.    Abimelech said to Abraham, "What did you see, that you have done this thing?"     And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?     ויאמר  אבימלך 
אל־אברהם  מה  ראית
כי  עשית  את־הדבר
הזה׃
    VY'aMUr 'aBYMLK 'aL-'aBUrHM MH Ur'aYTh KY 'yShYTh 'aTh-HDBUr HZH.     Abimelech also saith unto Abraham, `What hast thou seen that thou hast done this thing?`     rursusque expostulans ait quid vidisti ut hoc faceres
 
11.    Abraham said, "Because I thought, 'Surely the fear of God is not in this place. They will kill me for my wife's sake.'     And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake.     ויאמר  אברהם  כי 
אמרתי  רק  אין־יראת
אלהים  במקום  הזה
והרגוני  על־  דבר
אשתי׃
    VY'aMUr 'aBUrHM KY 'aMUrThY UrQ 'aYN-YUr'aTh 'aLHYM BMQVM HZH VHUrGVNY 'yL- DBUr 'aShThY.     And Abraham saith, `Because I said, `Surely the fear of God is not in this place, and they have slain me for the sake of my wife;     respondit Abraham cogitavi mecum dicens forsitan non est timor Dei in loco isto et interficient me propter uxorem meam
 
12.    Besides, she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.     And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.     וגם־אמנה  אחתי 
בת־אבי  הוא  אך  לא
בת־אמי  ותהי־לי
לאשה׃
    VGM-'aMNH 'aChThY BTh-'aBY HV'a 'aK L'a BTh-'aMY VThHY-LY L'aShH.     and also, truly she is my sister, daughter of my father, only not daughter of my mother, and she becometh my wife;     alias autem et vere soror mea est filia patris mei et non filia matris meae et duxi eam uxorem
 
13.    It happened, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said to her, 'This is your kindness which you shall show to me. Everywhere that we go, say of me, "He is my brother."'"     And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.     ויהי  כאשר  התעו 
אתי  אלהים  מבית
אבי  ואמר  לה  זה
חסדך  אשר  תעשי
עמדי  אל  כל־המקום
אשר  נבוא  שמה
אמרי־לי  אחי  הוא׃
    VYHY K'aShUr HTh'yV 'aThY 'aLHYM MBYTh 'aBY V'aMUr LH ZH ChSDK 'aShUr Th'yShY 'yMDY 'aL KL-HMQVM 'aShUr NBV'a ShMH 'aMUrY-LY 'aChY HV'a.     and it cometh to pass, when God hath caused me to wander from my father`s house, that I say to her, This is thy kindness which thou dost with me: at every place whither we come, say of me, He is my brother.`     postquam autem eduxit me Deus de domo patris mei dixi ad eam hanc misericordiam facies mecum in omni loco ad quem ingrediemur dices quod frater tuus sim
 
14.    Abimelech took sheep and cattle, male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and restored Sarah, his wife, to him.     And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.     ויקח  אבימלך  צאן 
ובקר  ועבדים  ושפחת
ויתן  לאברהם  וישב
לו  את  שרה  אשתו׃
    VYQCh 'aBYMLK TSh'aN VBQUr V'yBDYM VShPhChTh VYThN L'aBUrHM VYShB LV 'aTh ShUrH 'aShThV.     And Abimelech taketh sheep and oxen, and servants and handmaids, and giveth to Abraham, and sendeth back to him Sarah his wife;     tulit igitur Abimelech oves et boves et servos et ancillas et dedit Abraham reddiditque illi Sarram uxorem suam
 
15.    Abimelech said, "Behold, my land is before you. Dwell where it pleases you."     And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.     ויאמר  אבימלך  הנה 
ארצי  לפניך  בטוב
בעיניך  שב׃
    VY'aMUr 'aBYMLK HNH 'aUrTShY LPhNYK BTVB B'yYNYK ShB.     and Abimelech saith, `Lo, my land is before thee, where it is good in thine eyes, dwell;`     et ait terra coram vobis est ubicumque tibi placuerit habita
 
16.    To Sarah he said, "Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. Behold, it is for you a covering of the eyes to all that are with you. In front of all you are vindicated."     And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.     ולשרה  אמר  הנה 
נתתי  אלף  כסף
לאחיך  הנה  הוא־לך
כסות  עינים  לכל
אשר  אתך  ואת  כל
ונכחת׃
    VLShUrH 'aMUr HNH NThThY 'aLPh KSPh L'aChYK HNH HV'a-LK KSVTh 'yYNYM LKL 'aShUr 'aThK V'aTh KL VNKChTh.     and to Sarah he hath said, `Lo, I have given a thousand silverlings to thy brother; lo, it is to thee a covering of eyes, to all who are with thee;` and by all this she is reasoned with.     Sarrae autem dixit ecce mille argenteos dedi fratri tuo hoc erit tibi in velamen oculorum ad omnes qui tecum sunt et quocumque perrexeris mementoque te deprehensam
 
17.    Abraham prayed to God. God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his female servants, and they bore children.     So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.     ויתפלל  אברהם 
אל־האלהים  וירפא
אלהים  את־אבימלך
ואת־אשתו  ואמהתיו
וילדו׃
    VYThPhLL 'aBUrHM 'aL-H'aLHYM VYUrPh'a 'aLHYM 'aTh-'aBYMLK V'aTh-'aShThV V'aMHThYV VYLDV.     And Abraham prayeth unto God, and God healeth Abimelech and his wife, and his handmaids, and they bear:     orante autem Abraham sanavit Deus Abimelech et uxorem ancillasque eius et pepererunt
 
18.    For Yahweh had closed up tight all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.     For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.     כי־עצר  עצר  יהוה 
בעד  כל־רחם  לבית
אבימלך  על־דבר  שרה
אשת  אברהם׃
    KY-'yTShUr 'yTShUr YHVH B'yD KL-UrChM LBYTh 'aBYMLK 'yL-DBUr ShUrH 'aShTh 'aBUrHM.     for Jehovah restraining had restrained every womb of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham`s wife.     concluserat enim Deus omnem vulvam domus Abimelech propter Sarram uxorem Abraham
