1.    There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.     And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham.     VYHY Ur'yB B'aUrTSh MLBD HUr'yB HUr'aShVN 'aShUr HYH BYMY 'aBUrHM VYLK YTShChQ 'aL-'aBYMLK MLK-PhLShThYM GUrUrH.     And there is a famine in the land, besides the first famine which was in the days of Abraham, and Isaac goeth unto Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.     orta autem fame super terram post eam sterilitatem quae acciderat in diebus Abraham abiit Isaac ad Abimelech regem Palestinorum in Gerara
 
2.    Yahweh appeared to him, and said, "Don't go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about.     And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:     וירא  אליו  יהוה 
ויאמר  אל־תרד
מצרימה  שכן  בארץ
אשר  אמר  אליך׃
    VYUr'a 'aLYV YHVH VY'aMUr 'aL-ThUrD MTShUrYMH ShKN B'aUrTSh 'aShUr 'aMUr 'aLYK.     And Jehovah appeareth unto him, and saith, `Go not down towards Egypt, tabernacle in the land concerning which I speak unto thee,     apparuitque ei Dominus et ait ne descendas in Aegyptum sed quiesce in terra quam dixero tibi
 
3.    Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For to you, and to your seed, I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.     Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;     גור  בארץ  הזאת 
ואהיה  עמך  ואברכך
כי־לך  ולזרעך  אתן
את־כל־הארצת  האל
והקמתי  את־השבעה
אשר  נשבעתי  לאברהם
אביך׃
    GVUr B'aUrTSh HZ'aTh V'aHYH 'yMK V'aBUrKK KY-LK VLZUr'yK 'aThN 'aTh-KL-H'aUrTShTh H'aL VHQMThY 'aTh-HShB'yH 'aShUr NShB'yThY L'aBUrHM 'aBYK.     sojourn in this land, and I am with thee, and bless thee, for to thee and to thy seed I give all these lands, and I have established the oath which I have sworn to Abraham thy father;     et peregrinare in ea eroque tecum et benedicam tibi tibi enim et semini tuo dabo universas regiones has conplens iuramentum quod spopondi Abraham patri tuo
 
4.    I will multiply your seed as the stars of the sky, and will give to your seed all these lands. In your seed will all the nations of the earth be blessed,     And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;     והרביתי  את־זרעך 
ככוכבי  השמים
ונתתי  לזרעך  את
כל־הארצת  האל
והתברכו  בזרעך  כל
גויי  הארץ׃
    VHUrBYThY 'aTh-ZUr'yK KKVKBY HShMYM VNThThY LZUr'yK 'aTh KL-H'aUrTShTh H'aL VHThBUrKV BZUr'yK KL GVYY H'aUrTSh.     and I have multiplied thy seed as stars of the heavens, and I have given to thy seed all these lands; and blessed themselves in thy seed have all nations of the earth;     et multiplicabo semen tuum sicut stellas caeli daboque posteris tuis universas regiones has et benedicentur in semine tuo omnes gentes terrae
 
5.    because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my requirements, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws."     Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.     עקב  אשר־שמע  אברהם 
בקלי  וישמר  משמרתי
מצותי  חקותי
ותורתי׃
    'yQB 'aShUr-ShM'y 'aBUrHM BQLY VYShMUr MShMUrThY MTShVThY ChQVThY VThVUrThY.     because that Abraham hath hearkened to My voice, and keepeth My charge, My commands, My statutes, and My laws.`     eo quod oboedierit Abraham voci meae et custodierit praecepta et mandata mea et caerimonias legesque servaverit
 
6.    Isaac lived in Gerar.     And Isaac dwelt in Gerar:     וישב  יצחק  בגרר׃      VYShB YTShChQ BGUrUr.     And Isaac dwelleth in Gerar;     mansit itaque Isaac in Geraris
 
7.    The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, "She is my sister," for he was afraid to say, "My wife," lest, he thought, "the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at."     And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon.     וישאלו  אנשי  המקום 
לאשתו  ויאמר  אחתי
הוא  כי  ירא  לאמר
אשתי  פן־  יהרגני
אנשי  המקום
על־רבקה  כי־טובת
מראה  הוא׃
    VYSh'aLV 'aNShY HMQVM L'aShThV VY'aMUr 'aChThY HV'a KY YUr'a L'aMUr 'aShThY PhN- YHUrGNY 'aNShY HMQVM 'yL-UrBQH KY-TVBTh MUr'aH HV'a.     and men of the place ask him of his wife, and he saith, `She is my sister:` for he hath been afraid to say, `My wife -- lest the men of the place kill me for Rebekah, for she is of good appearance.`     qui cum interrogaretur a viris loci illius super uxore sua respondit soror mea est timuerat enim confiteri quod sibi esset sociata coniugio reputans ne forte interficerent eum propter illius pulchritudinem
 
8.    It happened, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was caressing Rebekah, his wife.     And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.     ויהי  כי  ארכו־לו

    VYHY KY 'aUrKV-LV ShM HYMYM VYShQPh 'aBYMLK MLK PhLShThYM B'yD HChLVN VYUr'a VHNH YTShChQ MTShChQ 'aTh UrBQH 'aShThV.     And it cometh to pass, when the days have been prolonged to him there, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looketh through the window, and seeth, and lo, Isaac is playing with Rebekah his wife.     cumque pertransissent dies plurimi et ibi demoraretur prospiciens Abimelech Palestinorum rex per fenestram vidit eum iocantem cum Rebecca uxore sua
 
9.    Abimelech called Isaac, and said, "Behold, surely she is your wife. Why did you say, 'She is my sister?'" Isaac said to him, "Because I said, 'Lest I die because of her.'"     And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.     ויקרא  אבימלך 
ליצחק  ויאמר  אך
הנה  אשתך  הוא  ואיך
אמרת  אחתי  הוא
ויאמר  אליו  יצחק
כי  אמרתי  פן־אמות
עליה׃
    VYQUr'a 'aBYMLK LYTShChQ VY'aMUr 'aK HNH 'aShThK HV'a V'aYK 'aMUrTh 'aChThY HV'a VY'aMUr 'aLYV YTShChQ KY 'aMUrThY PhN-'aMVTh 'yLYH.     And Abimelech calleth for Isaac, and saith, `Lo, she is surely thy wife; and how hast thou said, She is my sister?` and Isaac saith unto him, `Because I said, Lest I die for her.`     et accersito ait perspicuum est quod uxor tua sit cur mentitus es sororem tuam esse respondit timui ne morerer propter eam
 
10.    Abimelech said, "What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us!"     And Abimelech said, What is this thou hast done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us.     ויאמר  אבימלך 
מה־זאת  עשית  לנו
כמעט  שכב  אחד  העם
את־אשתך  והבאת
עלינו  אשם׃
    VY'aMUr 'aBYMLK MH-Z'aTh 'yShYTh LNV KM'yT ShKB 'aChD H'yM 'aTh-'aShThK VHB'aTh 'yLYNV 'aShM.     And Abimelech saith, `What is this thou hast done to us? as a little thing one of the people had lain with thy wife, and thou hadst brought upon us guilt;`     dixitque Abimelech quare inposuisti nobis potuit coire quispiam de populo cum uxore tua et induxeras super nos grande peccatum praecepitque omni populo dicens
 
11.    Abimelech commanded all the people, saying, "He who touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death."     And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.     ויצו  אבימלך 
את־כל־העם  לאמר
הנגע  באיש  הזה
ובאשתו  מות  יומת׃
    VYTShV 'aBYMLK 'aTh-KL-H'yM L'aMUr HNG'y B'aYSh HZH VB'aShThV MVTh YVMTh.     and Abimelech commandeth all the people, saying, `He who cometh against this man or against his wife, dying doth die.`     qui tetigerit hominis huius uxorem morte morietur
 
12.    Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. Yahweh blessed him.     Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.     ויזרע  יצחק  בארץ 
ההוא  וימצא  בשנה
ההוא  מאה  שערים
ויברכהו  יהוה׃
    VYZUr'y YTShChQ B'aUrTSh HHV'a VYMTSh'a BShNH HHV'a M'aH Sh'yUrYM VYBUrKHV YHVH.     And Isaac soweth in that land, and findeth in that year a hundredfold, and Jehovah blesseth him;     seruit autem Isaac in terra illa et invenit in ipso anno centuplum benedixitque ei Dominus
 
13.    The man grew great, and grew more and more until he became very great.     And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:     ויגדל  האיש  וילך 
הלוך  וגדל  עד
כי־גדל  מאד׃
    VYGDL H'aYSh VYLK HLVK VGDL 'yD KY-GDL M'aD.     and the man is great, and goeth on, going on and becoming great, till that he hath been very great,     et locupletatus est homo et ibat proficiens atque succrescens donec magnus vehementer effectus est
 
14.    He had possessions of flocks, possessions of herds, and a great household. The Philistines envied him.     For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.     ויהי־לו  מקנה־צאן 
ומקנה  בקר  ועבדה
רבה  ויקנאו  אתו
פלשתים׃
    VYHY-LV MQNH-TSh'aN VMQNH BQUr V'yBDH UrBH VYQN'aV 'aThV PhLShThYM.     and he hath possession of a flock, and possession of a herd, and an abundant service; and the Philistines envy him,     habuit quoque possessionem ovium et armentorum et familiae plurimum ob haec invidentes ei Palestini
 
15.    Now all the wells which his father's servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped, and filled with earth.     For all the wells which his father's servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.     וכל־הבארת  אשר 
חפרו  עבדי  אביו
בימי  אברהם  אביו
סתמום  פלשתים
וימלאום  עפר׃
    VKL-HB'aUrTh 'aShUr ChPhUrV 'yBDY 'aBYV BYMY 'aBUrHM 'aBYV SThMVM PhLShThYM VYML'aVM 'yPhUr.     and all the wells which his father`s servants digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines have stopped them, and fill them with dust.     omnes puteos quos foderant servi patris illius Abraham illo tempore obstruxerunt implentes humo
 
16.    Abimelech said to Isaac, "Go from us, for you are much mightier than we."     And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.     ויאמר  אבימלך 
אל־יצחק  לך  מעמנו
כי־עצמת־ממנו  מאד׃
    VY'aMUr 'aBYMLK 'aL-YTShChQ LK M'yMNV KY-'yTShMTh-MMNV M'aD.     And Abimelech saith unto Isaac, `Go from us; for thou hast become much mightier than we;`     in tantum ut ipse Abimelech diceret ad Isaac recede a nobis quoniam potentior nostri factus es valde
 
17.    Isaac departed from there, encamped in the valley of Gerar, and lived there.     And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.     וילך  משם  יצחק 
ויחן  בנחל־גרר
וישב  שם׃
    VYLK MShM YTShChQ VYChN BNChL-GUrUr VYShB ShM.     and Isaac goeth from thence, and encampeth in the valley of Gerar, and dwelleth there;     et ille discedens veniret ad torrentem Gerarae habitaretque ibi
 
18.    Isaac dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father. For the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham. He called their names after the names by which his father had called them.     And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.     וישב  יצחק  ויחפר 
את־בארת  המים  אשר
חפרו  בימי  אברהם
אביו  ויסתמום
פלשתים  אחרי  מות
אברהם  ויקרא  להן
שמות  כשמת  אשר־קרא
להן  אביו׃
    VYShB YTShChQ VYChPhUr 'aTh-B'aUrTh HMYM 'aShUr ChPhUrV BYMY 'aBUrHM 'aBYV VYSThMVM PhLShThYM 'aChUrY MVTh 'aBUrHM VYQUr'a LHN ShMVTh KShMTh 'aShUr-QUr'a LHN 'aBYV.     and Isaac turneth back, and diggeth the wells of water which they digged in the days of Abraham his father, which the Philistines do stop after the death of Abraham, and he calleth to them names according to the names which his father called them.     rursum fodit alios puteos quos foderant servi patris sui Abraham et quos illo mortuo olim obstruxerant Philisthim appellavitque eos hisdem nominibus quibus ante pater vocaverat
 
19.    Isaac's servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.     And Isaac's servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.     ויחפרו  עבדי־יצחק 
בנחל  וימצאו־שם
באר  מים  חיים׃
    VYChPhUrV 'yBDY-YTShChQ BNChL VYMTSh'aV-ShM B'aUr MYM ChYYM.     And Isaac`s servants dig in the valley, and find there a well of living water,     foderunt in torrente et reppererunt aquam vivam
 
20.    The herdsmen of Gerar argued with Isaac's herdsmen, saying, "The water is ours." He called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him.     And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac's herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.     ויריבו  רעי  גרר 
עם־רעי  יצחק  לאמר
לנו  המים  ויקרא
שם־הבאר  עשק  כי
התעשקו  עמו׃
    VYUrYBV Ur'yY GUrUr 'yM-Ur'yY YTShChQ L'aMUr LNV HMYM VYQUr'a ShM-HB'aUr 'yShQ KY HTh'yShQV 'yMV.     and shepherds of Gerar strive with shepherds of Isaac, saying, `The water is ours;` and he calleth the name of the well `Strife,` because they have striven habitually with him;     sed et ibi iurgium fuit pastorum Gerarae adversum pastores Isaac dicentium nostra est aqua quam ob rem nomen putei ex eo quod acciderat vocavit Calumniam
 
21.    They dug another well, and they argued over that, also. He called its name Sitnah.     And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.     ויחפרו  באר  אחרת 
ויריבו  גם־עליה
ויקרא  שמה  שטנה׃
    VYChPhUrV B'aUr 'aChUrTh VYUrYBV GM-'yLYH VYQUr'a ShMH ShTNH.     and they dig another well, and they strive also for it, and he calleth its name `Hatred.`     foderunt et alium et pro illo quoque rixati sunt appellavitque eum Inimicitias
 
22.    He left that place, and dug another well. They didn't argue over that one. He called it Rehoboth. He said, "For now Yahweh has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land."     And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.     ויעתק  משם  ויחפר 
באר  אחרת  ולא  רבו
עליה  ויקרא  שמה
רחבות  ויאמר
כי־עתה  הרחיב  יהוה
לנו  ופרינו  בארץ׃
    VY'yThQ MShM VYChPhUr B'aUr 'aChUrTh VL'a UrBV 'yLYH VYQUr'a ShMH UrChBVTh VY'aMUr KY-'yThH HUrChYB YHVH LNV VPhUrYNV B'aUrTSh.     And he removeth from thence, and diggeth another well, and they have not striven for it, and he calleth its name Enlargements, and saith, `For -- now hath Jehovah given enlargement to us, and we have been fruitful in the land.`     profectus inde fodit alium puteum pro quo non contenderunt itaque vocavit nomen illius Latitudo dicens nunc dilatavit nos Dominus et fecit crescere super terram
 
23.    He went up from there to Beersheba.     And he went up from thence to Beersheba.     ויעל  משם  באר  שבע׃      VY'yL MShM B'aUr ShB'y.     And he goeth up from thence to Beer-Sheba,     ascendit autem ex illo loco in Bersabee
 
24.    Yahweh appeared to him the same night, and said, "I am the God of Abraham your father. Don't be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your seed for my servant Abraham's sake."     And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham's sake.     וירא  אליו  יהוה 
בלילה  ההוא  ויאמר
אנכי  אלהי  אברהם
אביך  אל־תירא
כי־אתך  אנכי
וברכתיך  והרביתי
את־זרעך  בעבור
אברהם  עבדי׃
    VYUr'a 'aLYV YHVH BLYLH HHV'a VY'aMUr 'aNKY 'aLHY 'aBUrHM 'aBYK 'aL-ThYUr'a KY-'aThK 'aNKY VBUrKThYK VHUrBYThY 'aTh-ZUr'yK B'yBVUr 'aBUrHM 'yBDY.     and Jehovah appeareth unto him during that night, and saith, `I am the God of Abraham thy father, fear not, for I am with thee, and have blessed thee, and have multiplied thy seed, because of Abraham My servant;`     ubi apparuit ei Dominus in ipsa nocte dicens ego sum Deus Abraham patris tui noli metuere quia tecum sum benedicam tibi et multiplicabo semen tuum propter servum meum Abraham
 
25.    He built an altar there, and called on the name of Yahweh, and pitched his tent there. There Isaac's servants dug a well.     And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac's servants digged a well.     ויבן  שם  מזבח 
ויקרא  בשם  יהוה
ויט־שם  אהלו
ויכרו־שם
עבדי־יצחק  באר׃
    VYBN ShM MZBCh VYQUr'a BShM YHVH VYT-ShM 'aHLV VYKUrV-ShM 'yBDY-YTShChQ B'aUr.     and he buildeth there an altar, and preacheth in the name of Jehovah, and stretcheth out there his tent, and there Isaac`s servants dig a well.     itaque aedificavit ibi altare et invocato nomine Domini extendit tabernaculum praecepitque servis suis ut foderent puteum
 
26.    Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phicol the captain of his army.     Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chief captain of his army.     ואבימלך  הלך  אליו 
מגרר  ואחזת  מרעהו
ופיכל  שר־צבאו׃
    V'aBYMLK HLK 'aLYV MGUrUr V'aChZTh MUr'yHV VPhYKL ShUr-TShB'aV.     And Abimelech hath gone unto him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phichol head of his host;     ad quem locum cum venissent de Geraris Abimelech et Ochozath amicus illius et Fichol dux militum
 
27.    Isaac said to them, "Why have you come to me, since you hate me, and have sent me away from you?"     And Isaac said unto them, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me, and have sent me away from you?     ויאמר  אלהם  יצחק 
מדוע  באתם  אלי
ואתם  שנאתם  אתי
ותשלחוני  מאתכם׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHM YTShChQ MDV'y B'aThM 'aLY V'aThM ShN'aThM 'aThY VThShLChVNY M'aThKM.     and Isaac saith unto them, `Wherefore have ye come unto me, and ye have hated me, and ye send me away from you?`     locutus est eis Isaac quid venistis ad me hominem quem odistis et expulistis a vobis
 
28.    They said, "We saw plainly that Yahweh was with you. We said, 'Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you,     And they said, We saw certainly that the LORD was with thee: and we said, Let there be now an oath betwixt us, even betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;     ויאמרו  ראו  ראינו 
כי־היה  יהוה  עמך
ונאמר  תהי  נא  אלה
בינותינו  בינינו
ובינך  ונכרתה  ברית
עמך׃
    VY'aMUrV Ur'aV Ur'aYNV KY-HYH YHVH 'yMK VN'aMUr ThHY N'a 'aLH BYNVThYNV BYNYNV VBYNK VNKUrThH BUrYTh 'yMK.     And they say, `We have certainly seen that Jehovah hath been with thee, and we say, `Let there be, we pray thee, an oath between us, between us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;     qui responderunt vidimus tecum esse Dominum et idcirco nunc diximus sit iuramentum inter nos et ineamus foedus
 
29.    that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.' You are now the blessed of Yahweh."     That thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou art now the blessed of the LORD.     אם־תעשה  עמנו  רעה 
כאשר  לא  נגענוך
וכאשר  עשינו  עמך
רק־טוב  ונשלחך
בשלום  אתה  עתה
ברוך  יהוה׃
    'aM-Th'yShH 'yMNV Ur'yH K'aShUr L'a NG'yNVK VK'aShUr 'yShYNV 'yMK UrQ-TVB VNShLChK BShLVM 'aThH 'yThH BUrVK YHVH.     do not evil with us, as we have not touched thee, and as we have only done good with thee, and send thee away in peace; thou art now blessed of Jehovah.`     ut non facias nobis quicquam mali sicut et nos nihil tuorum adtigimus nec fecimus quod te laederet sed cum pace dimisimus auctum benedictione Domini
 
30.    He made them a feast, and they ate and drank.     And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.     ויעש  להם  משתה 
ויאכלו  וישתו׃
    VY'ySh LHM MShThH VY'aKLV VYShThV.     And he maketh for them a banquet, and they eat and drink,     fecit ergo eis convivium et post cibum et potum
 
31.    They rose up some time in the morning, and swore one to another. Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.     And they rose up betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.     וישכימו  בבקר 
וישבעו  איש  לאחיו
וישלחם  יצחק  וילכו
מאתו  בשלום׃

32.    It happened the same day, that Isaac's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and said to him, "We have found water."     And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him, We have found water.     ויהי  ביום  ההוא 
ויבאו  עבדי  יצחק
ויגדו  לו  על־אדות
הבאר  אשר  חפרו
ויאמרו  לו  מצאנו
מים׃
    VYHY BYVM HHV'a VYB'aV 'yBDY YTShChQ VYGDV LV 'yL-'aDVTh HB'aUr 'aShUr ChPhUrV VY'aMUrV LV MTSh'aNV MYM.     And it cometh to pass during that day that Isaac`s servants come and declare to him concerning the circumstances of the well which they have digged, and say to him, `We have found water;`     ecce autem venerunt in ipso die servi Isaac adnuntiantes ei de puteo quem foderant atque dicentes invenimus aquam
 
33.    He called it Shibah.{Shibah means "oath" or "seven."} Therefore the name of the city is Beersheba{Beersheba means "well of the oath" or "well of the seven"} to this day.     And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city is Beersheba unto this day.     ויקרא  אתה  שבעה 
על־כן  שם־העיר  באר
שבע  עד  היום  הזה׃
    VYQUr'a 'aThH ShB'yH 'yL-KN ShM-H'yYUr B'aUr ShB'y 'yD HYVM HZH.     and he calleth it Shebah, oath, therefore the name of the city is Beer-Sheba, well of the oath, unto this day.     unde appellavit eum Abundantiam et nomen urbi inpositum est Bersabee usque in praesentem diem
 
34.    When Esau was forty years old, he took as wife Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon the Hittite.     And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite:     ויהי  עשו 
בן־ארבעים  שנה
ויקח  אשה
את־יהודית  בת־בארי
החתי  ואת־  בשמת
בת־אילן  החתי׃
    VYHY 'yShV BN-'aUrB'yYM ShNH VYQCh 'aShH 'aTh-YHVDYTh BTh-B'aUrY HChThY V'aTh- BShMTh BTh-'aYLN HChThY.     And Esau is a son of forty years, and he taketh a wife, Judith, daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath, daughter of Elon the Hittite,     Esau vero quadragenarius duxit uxores Iudith filiam Beeri Hetthei et Basemath filiam Helon eiusdem loci
 
35.    They grieved Isaac's and Rebekah's spirits.     Which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.     ותהיין  מרת  רוח 
ליצחק  ולרבקה׃
    VThHYYN MUrTh UrVCh LYTShChQ VLUrBQH.     and they are a bitterness of spirit to Isaac and to Rebekah.     quae ambae offenderant animum Isaac et Rebeccae
