1.    Now the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which Yahweh God had made. He said to the woman, "Has God really said, 'You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?'"     Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?     והנחש  היה  ערום 
מכל  חית  השדה  אשר
עשה  יהוה  אלהים
ויאמר  אל־האשה  אף
כי־אמר  אלהים  לא
תאכלו  מכל  עץ  הגן׃
    VHNChSh HYH 'yUrVM MKL ChYTh HShDH 'aShUr 'yShH YHVH 'aLHYM VY'aMUr 'aL-H'aShH 'aPh KY-'aMUr 'aLHYM L'a Th'aKLV MKL 'yTSh HGN.     And the serpent hath been subtile above every beast of the field which Jehovah God hath made, and he saith unto the woman, `Is it true that God hath said, Ye do not eat of every tree of the garden?`     sed et serpens erat callidior cunctis animantibus terrae quae fecerat Dominus Deus qui dixit ad mulierem cur praecepit vobis Deus ut non comederetis de omni ligno paradisi
 
2.    The woman said to the serpent, "Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat,     And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:     ותאמר  האשה 
אל־הנחש  מפרי
עץ־הגן  נאכל׃
    VTh'aMUr H'aShH 'aL-HNChSh MPhUrY 'yTSh-HGN N'aKL.     And the woman saith unto the serpent, `Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we do eat,     cui respondit mulier de fructu lignorum quae sunt in paradiso vescemur
 
3.    but of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'"     But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.     ומפרי  העץ  אשר 
בתוך־הגן  אמר
אלהים  לא  תאכלו
ממנו  ולא  תגעו  בו
פן־  תמתון׃
    VMPhUrY H'yTSh 'aShUr BThVK-HGN 'aMUr 'aLHYM L'a Th'aKLV MMNV VL'a ThG'yV BV PhN- ThMThVN.     and of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden God hath said, Ye do not eat of it, nor touch it, lest ye die.`     de fructu vero ligni quod est in medio paradisi praecepit nobis Deus ne comederemus et ne tangeremus illud ne forte moriamur
 
4.    The serpent said to the woman, "You won't surely die,     And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:     ויאמר  הנחש 
אל־האשה  לא־מות
תמתון׃
    VY'aMUr HNChSh 'aL-H'aShH L'a-MVTh ThMThVN.     And the serpent saith unto the woman, `Dying, ye do not die,     dixit autem serpens ad mulierem nequaquam morte moriemini
 
5.    for God knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."     For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.     כי  ידע  אלהים  כי 
ביום  אכלכם  ממנו
ונפקחו  עיניכם
והייתם  כאלהים
ידעי  טוב  ורע׃
    KY YD'y 'aLHYM KY BYVM 'aKLKM MMNV VNPhQChV 'yYNYKM VHYYThM K'aLHYM YD'yY TVB VUr'y.     for God doth know that in the day of your eating of it -- your eyes have been opened, and ye have been as God, knowing good and evil.`     scit enim Deus quod in quocumque die comederitis ex eo aperientur oculi vestri et eritis sicut dii scientes bonum et malum
 
6.    When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit, and ate; and she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate.     And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.     ותרא  האשה  כי  טוב 
העץ  למאכל  וכי
תאוה־הוא  לעינים
ונחמד  העץ  להשכיל
ותקח  מפריו  ותאכל
ותתן  גם־לאישה  עמה
ויאכל׃
    VThUr'a H'aShH KY TVB H'yTSh LM'aKL VKY Th'aVH-HV'a L'yYNYM VNChMD H'yTSh LHShKYL VThQCh MPhUrYV VTh'aKL VThThN GM-L'aYShH 'yMH VY'aKL.     And the woman seeth that the tree is good for food, and that it is pleasant to the eyes, and the tree is desirable to make one wise, and she taketh of its fruit and eateth, and giveth also to her husband with her, and he doth eat;     vidit igitur mulier quod bonum esset lignum ad vescendum et pulchrum oculis aspectuque delectabile et tulit de fructu illius et comedit deditque viro suo qui comedit
 
7.    The eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.     And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.     ותפקחנה  עיני 
שניהם  וידעו  כי
עירמם  הם  ויתפרו
עלה  תאנה  ויעשו
להם  חגרת׃
    VThPhQChNH 'yYNY ShNYHM VYD'yV KY 'yYUrMM HM VYThPhUrV 'yLH Th'aNH VY'yShV LHM ChGUrTh.     and the eyes of them both are opened, and they know that they are naked, and they sew fig-leaves, and make to themselves girdles.     et aperti sunt oculi amborum cumque cognovissent esse se nudos consuerunt folia ficus et fecerunt sibi perizomata
 
8.    They heard the voice of Yahweh God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God among the trees of the garden.     And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.     וישמעו  את־קול 
יהוה  אלהים  מתהלך
בגן  לרוח  היום
ויתחבא  האדם  ואשתו
מפני  יהוה  אלהים
בתוך  עץ  הגן׃
    VYShM'yV 'aTh-QVL YHVH 'aLHYM MThHLK BGN LUrVCh HYVM VYThChB'a H'aDM V'aShThV MPhNY YHVH 'aLHYM BThVK 'yTSh HGN.     And they hear the sound of Jehovah God walking up and down in the garden at the breeze of the day, and the man and his wife hide themselves from the face of Jehovah God in the midst of the trees of the garden.     et cum audissent vocem Domini Dei deambulantis in paradiso ad auram post meridiem abscondit se Adam et uxor eius a facie Domini Dei in medio ligni paradisi
 
9.    Yahweh God called to the man, and said to him, "Where are you?"     And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?     ויקרא  יהוה  אלהים 
אל־האדם  ויאמר  לו
איכה׃
    VYQUr'a YHVH 'aLHYM 'aL-H'aDM VY'aMUr LV 'aYKH.     And Jehovah God calleth unto the man, and saith to him, `Where art thou?`     vocavitque Dominus Deus Adam et dixit ei ubi es
 
10.    The man said, "I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself."     And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.     ויאמר  את־קלך 
שמעתי  בגן  ואירא
כי־עירם  אנכי
ואחבא׃
    VY'aMUr 'aTh-QLK ShM'yThY BGN V'aYUr'a KY-'yYUrM 'aNKY V'aChB'a.     and he saith, `Thy sound I have heard in the garden, and I am afraid, for I am naked, and I hide myself.`     qui ait vocem tuam audivi in paradiso et timui eo quod nudus essem et abscondi me
 
11.    God said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"     And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?     ויאמר  מי  הגיד  לך 
כי  עירם  אתה
המן־העץ  אשר
צויתיך  לבלתי  אכל־
ממנו  אכלת׃
    VY'aMUr MY HGYD LK KY 'yYUrM 'aThH HMN-H'yTSh 'aShUr TShVYThYK LBLThY 'aKL- MMNV 'aKLTh.     And He saith, `Who hath declared to thee that thou art naked? of the tree of which I have commanded thee not to eat, hast thou eaten?`     cui dixit quis enim indicavit tibi quod nudus esses nisi quod ex ligno de quo tibi praeceperam ne comederes comedisti
 
12.    The man said, "The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate."     And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.     ויאמר  האדם  האשה 
אשר  נתתה  עמדי  הוא
נתנה־לי  מן־העץ
ואכל׃
    VY'aMUr H'aDM H'aShH 'aShUr NThThH 'yMDY HV'a NThNH-LY MN-H'yTSh V'aKL.     and the man saith, `The woman whom Thou didst place with me -- she hath given to me of the tree -- and I do eat.`     dixitque Adam mulier quam dedisti sociam mihi dedit mihi de ligno et comedi
 
13.    Yahweh God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."     And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.     ויאמר  יהוה  אלהים 
לאשה  מה־זאת  עשית
ותאמר  האשה  הנחש
השיאני  ואכל׃
    VY'aMUr YHVH 'aLHYM L'aShH MH-Z'aTh 'yShYTh VTh'aMUr H'aShH HNChSh HShY'aNY V'aKL.     And Jehovah God saith to the woman, `What is this thou hast done?` and the woman saith, `The serpent hath caused me to forget -- and I do eat.`     et dixit Dominus Deus ad mulierem quare hoc fecisti quae respondit serpens decepit me et comedi
 
14.    Yahweh God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. On your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.     And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:     ויאמר  יהוה  אלהים 
אל־הנחש  כי  עשית
זאת  ארור  אתה
מכל־הבהמה  ומכל
חית  השדה  על־גחנך
תלך  ועפר  תאכל
כל־ימי  חייך׃
    VY'aMUr YHVH 'aLHYM 'aL-HNChSh KY 'yShYTh Z'aTh 'aUrVUr 'aThH MKL-HBHMH VMKL ChYTh HShDH 'yL-GChNK ThLK V'yPhUr Th'aKL KL-YMY ChYYK.     And Jehovah God saith unto the serpent, `Because thou hast done this, cursed art thou above all the cattle, and above every beast of the field: on thy belly dost thou go, and dust thou dost eat, all days of thy life;     et ait Dominus Deus ad serpentem quia fecisti hoc maledictus es inter omnia animantia et bestias terrae super pectus tuum gradieris et terram comedes cunctis diebus vitae tuae
 
15.    I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel."     And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.     ואיבה  אשית  בינך 
ובין  האשה  ובין
זרעך  ובין  זרעה
הוא  ישופך  ראש
ואתה  תשופנו  עקב׃
    V'aYBH 'aShYTh BYNK VBYN H'aShH VBYN ZUr'yK VBYN ZUr'yH HV'a YShVPhK Ur'aSh V'aThH ThShVPhNV 'yQB.     and enmity I put between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; he doth bruise thee -- the head, and thou dost bruise him -- the heel.`     inimicitias ponam inter te et mulierem et semen tuum et semen illius ipsa conteret caput tuum et tu insidiaberis calcaneo eius
 
16.    To the woman he said, "I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. In pain you will bring forth children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."     Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.     אל־האשה  אמר  הרבה 
ארבה  עצבונך  והרנך
בעצב  תלדי  בנים
ואל־אישך  תשוקתך
והוא  ימשל־בך׃
    'aL-H'aShH 'aMUr HUrBH 'aUrBH 'yTShBVNK VHUrNK B'yTShB ThLDY BNYM V'aL-'aYShK ThShVQThK VHV'a YMShL-BK.     Unto the woman He said, `Multiplying I multiply thy sorrow and thy conception, in sorrow dost thou bear children, and toward thy husband is thy desire, and he doth rule over thee.`     mulieri quoque dixit multiplicabo aerumnas tuas et conceptus tuos in dolore paries filios et sub viri potestate eris et ipse dominabitur tui
 
17.    To Adam he said, "Because you have listened to your wife's voice, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it,' cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.     And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;     ולאדם  אמר  כי־שמעת 
לקול  אשתך  ותאכל
מן־העץ  אשר  צויתיך
לאמר  לא  תאכל  ממנו
ארורה  האדמה
בעבורך  בעצבון
תאכלנה  כל  ימי
חייך׃
    VL'aDM 'aMUr KY-ShM'yTh LQVL 'aShThK VTh'aKL MN-H'yTSh 'aShUr TShVYThYK L'aMUr L'a Th'aKL MMNV 'aUrVUrH H'aDMH B'yBVUrK B'yTShBVN Th'aKLNH KL YMY ChYYK.     And to the man He said, `Because thou hast hearkened to the voice of thy wife, and dost eat of the tree concerning which I have charged thee, saying, Thou dost not eat of it, cursed is the ground on thine account; in sorrow thou dost eat of it all days of thy life,     ad Adam vero dixit quia audisti vocem uxoris tuae et comedisti de ligno ex quo praeceperam tibi ne comederes maledicta terra in opere tuo in laboribus comedes eam cunctis diebus vitae tuae
 
18.    Thorns also and thistles will it bring forth to you; and you will eat the herb of the field.     Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;     וקוץ  ודרדר  תצמיח 
לך  ואכלת  את־עשב
השדה׃
    VQVTSh VDUrDUr ThTShMYCh LK V'aKLTh 'aTh-'yShB HShDH.     and thorn and bramble it doth bring forth to thee, and thou hast eaten the herb of the field;     spinas et tribulos germinabit tibi et comedes herbas terrae
 
19.    By the sweat of your face will you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return."     In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.     בזעת  אפיך  תאכל 
לחם  עד  שובך
אל־האדמה  כי  ממנה
לקחת  כי־עפר  אתה
ואל־עפר  תשוב׃
    BZ'yTh 'aPhYK Th'aKL LChM 'yD ShVBK 'aL-H'aDMH KY MMNH LQChTh KY-'yPhUr 'aThH V'aL-'yPhUr ThShVB.     by the sweat of thy face thou dost eat bread till thy return unto the ground, for out of it hast thou been taken, for dust thou art, and unto dust thou turnest back.`     in sudore vultus tui vesceris pane donec revertaris in terram de qua sumptus es quia pulvis es et in pulverem reverteris
 
20.    The man called his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all living.     And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.     ויקרא  האדם  שם 
אשתו  חוה  כי  הוא
היתה  אם  כל־חי׃
    VYQUr'a H'aDM ShM 'aShThV ChVH KY HV'a HYThH 'aM KL-ChY.     And the man calleth his wife`s name Eve: for she hath been mother of all living.     et vocavit Adam nomen uxoris suae Hava eo quod mater esset cunctorum viventium
 
21.    Yahweh God made coats of skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them.     Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.     ויעש  יהוה  אלהים 
לאדם  ולאשתו  כתנות
עור  וילבשם׃
    VY'ySh YHVH 'aLHYM L'aDM VL'aShThV KThNVTh 'yVUr VYLBShM.     And Jehovah God doth make to the man and to his wife coats of skin, and doth clothe them.     fecit quoque Dominus Deus Adam et uxori eius tunicas pellicias et induit eos
 
22.    Yahweh God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Now, lest he put forth his hand, and also take of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever..."     And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:     ויאמר  יהוה  אלהים 
הן  האדם  היה  כאחד
ממנו  לדעת  טוב  ורע
ועתה  פן־  ישלח  ידו
ולקח  גם  מעץ  החיים
ואכל  וחי  לעלם׃
    VY'aMUr YHVH 'aLHYM HN H'aDM HYH K'aChD MMNV LD'yTh TVB VUr'y V'yThH PhN- YShLCh YDV VLQCh GM M'yTSh HChYYM V'aKL VChY L'yLM.     And Jehovah God saith, `Lo, the man was as one of Us, as to the knowledge of good and evil; and now, lest he send forth his hand, and have taken also of the tree of life, and eaten, and lived to the age,` --     et ait ecce Adam factus est quasi unus ex nobis sciens bonum et malum nunc ergo ne forte mittat manum suam et sumat etiam de ligno vitae et comedat et vivat in aeternum
 
23.    Therefore Yahweh God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.     Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.     וישלחהו  יהוה 
אלהים  מגן־עדן
לעבד  את־האדמה  אשר
לקח  משם׃
    VYShLChHV YHVH 'aLHYM MGN-'yDN L'yBD 'aTh-H'aDMH 'aShUr LQCh MShM.     Jehovah God sendeth him forth from the garden of Eden to serve the ground from which he hath been taken;     emisit eum Dominus Deus de paradiso voluptatis ut operaretur terram de qua sumptus est
 
24.    So he drove out the man; and he placed Cherubs at the east of the garden of Eden, and the flame of a sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.     So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.     ויגרש  את־האדם 
וישכן  מקדם
לגן־עדן  את־הכרבים
ואת  להט  החרב
המתהפכת  לשמר
את־דרך  עץ  החיים׃
    VYGUrSh 'aTh-H'aDM VYShKN MQDM LGN-'yDN 'aTh-HKUrBYM V'aTh LHT HChUrB HMThHPhKTh LShMUr 'aTh-DUrK 'yTSh HChYYM.     yea, he casteth out the man, and causeth to dwell at the east of the garden of Eden the cherubs and the flame of the sword which is turning itself round to guard the way of the tree of life.     eiecitque Adam et conlocavit ante paradisum voluptatis cherubin et flammeum gladium atque versatilem ad custodiendam viam ligni vitae
