1.    It happened at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and behold, he stood by the river.     And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.     ויהי  מקץ  שנתים 
ימים  ופרעה  חלם
והנה  עמד  על־היאר׃
    VYHY MQTSh ShNThYM YMYM VPhUr'yH ChLM VHNH 'yMD 'yL-HY'aUr.     And it cometh to pass, at the end of two years of days that Pharaoh is dreaming, and lo, he is standing by the River,     post duos annos vidit Pharao somnium putabat se stare super fluvium
 
2.    Behold, there came up out of the river seven cattle, sleek and fat, and they fed in the marsh grass.     And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow.     והנה  מן־היאר  עלת 
שבע  פרות  יפות
מראה  ובריאת  בשר
ותרעינה  באחו׃
    VHNH MN-HY'aUr 'yLTh ShB'y PhUrVTh YPhVTh MUr'aH VBUrY'aTh BShUr VThUr'yYNH B'aChV.     and lo, from the River coming up are seven kine, of fair appearance, and fat in flesh, and they feed among the reeds;     de quo ascendebant septem boves pulchrae et crassae nimis et pascebantur in locis palustribus
 
3.    Behold, seven other cattle came up after them out of the river, ugly and thin, and stood by the other cattle on the brink of the river.     And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river.     והנה  שבע  פרות 
אחרות  עלות  אחריהן
מן־היאר  רעות  מראה
ודקות  בשר  ותעמדנה
אצל  הפרות  על־שפת
היאר׃
    VHNH ShB'y PhUrVTh 'aChUrVTh 'yLVTh 'aChUrYHN MN-HY'aUr Ur'yVTh MUr'aH VDQVTh BShUr VTh'yMDNH 'aTShL HPhUrVTh 'yL-ShPhTh HY'aUr.     and lo, seven other kine are coming up after them out of the River, of bad appearance, and lean in flesh, and they stand near the kine on the edge of the River,     aliae quoque septem emergebant de flumine foedae confectaeque macie et pascebantur in ipsa amnis ripa in locis virentibus
 
4.    The ugly and thin cattle ate up the seven sleek and fat cattle. So Pharaoh awoke.     And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.     ותאכלנה  הפרות

    VTh'aKLNH HPhUrVTh Ur'yVTh HMUr'aH VDQTh HBShUr 'aTh ShB'y HPhUrVTh YPhTh HMUr'aH VHBUrY'aTh VYYQTSh PhUr'yH.     and the kine of bad appearance and lean in flesh eat up the seven kine of fair appearance, and fat -- and Pharaoh awaketh.     devoraveruntque eas quarum mira species et habitudo corporum erat expergefactus Pharao
 
5.    He slept and dreamed a second time: and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, healthy and good.     And he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.     ויישן  ויחלם  שנית 
והנה  שבע  שבלים
עלות  בקנה  אחד
בריאות  וטבות׃
    VYYShN VYChLM ShNYTh VHNH ShB'y ShBLYM 'yLVTh BQNH 'aChD BUrY'aVTh VTBVTh.     And he sleepeth, and dreameth a second time, and lo, seven ears are coming up on one stalk, fat and good,     rursum dormivit et vidit alterum somnium septem spicae pullulabant in culmo uno plenae atque formonsae
 
6.    Behold, seven heads of grain, thin and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.     And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.     והנה  שבע  שבלים 
דקות  ושדופת  קדים
צמחות  אחריהן׃
    VHNH ShB'y ShBLYM DQVTh VShDVPhTh QDYM TShMChVTh 'aChUrYHN.     and lo, seven ears, thin, and blasted with an east wind, are springing up after them;     aliae quoque totidem spicae tenues et percussae uredine oriebantur
 
7.    The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven healthy and full ears. Pharaoh awoke, and behold, it was a dream.     And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.     ותבלענה  השבלים

8.    It happened in the morning that his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all of Egypt's magicians and wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them to Pharaoh.     And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.     ויהי  בבקר  ותפעם 
רוחו  וישלח  ויקרא
את־כל־חרטמי  מצרים
ואת־כל־  חכמיה
ויספר  פרעה  להם
את־חלמו  ואין־פותר
אותם  לפרעה׃
    VYHY BBQUr VThPh'yM UrVChV VYShLCh VYQUr'a 'aTh-KL-ChUrTMY MTShUrYM V'aTh-KL- ChKMYH VYSPhUr PhUr'yH LHM 'aTh-ChLMV V'aYN-PhVThUr 'aVThM LPhUr'yH.     And it cometh to pass in the morning, that his spirit is moved, and he sendeth and calleth all the scribes of Egypt, and all its wise men, and Pharaoh recounteth to them his dream, and there is no interpreter of them to Pharaoh.     et facto mane pavore perterritus misit ad coniectores Aegypti cunctosque sapientes et accersitis narravit somnium nec erat qui interpretaretur
 
9.    Then the chief cupbearer spoke to Pharaoh, saying, "I remember my faults today.     Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:     וידבר  שר  המשקים 
את־פרעה  לאמר
את־חטאי  אני  מזכיר
היום׃
    VYDBUr ShUr HMShQYM 'aTh-PhUr'yH L'aMUr 'aTh-ChT'aY 'aNY MZKYUr HYVM.     And the chief of the butlers speaketh with Pharaoh, saying, `My sin I mention this day:     tunc demum reminiscens pincernarum magister ait confiteor peccatum meum
 
10.    Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, me and the chief baker.     Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard's house, both me and the chief baker:     פרעה  קצף  על־עבדיו 
ויתן  אתי  במשמר
בית  שר  הטבחים  אתי
ואת  שר  האפים׃
    PhUr'yH QTShPh 'yL-'yBDYV VYThN 'aThY BMShMUr BYTh ShUr HTBChYM 'aThY V'aTh ShUr H'aPhYM.     Pharaoh hath been wroth against his servants, and giveth me into charge in the house of the chief of the executioners, me and the chief of the bakers;     iratus rex servis suis me et magistrum pistorum retrudi iussit in carcerem principis militum
 
11.    We dreamed a dream in one night, I and he. We dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.     And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.     ונחלמה  חלום  בלילה 
אחד  אני  והוא  איש
כפתרון  חלמו
חלמנו׃
    VNChLMH ChLVM BLYLH 'aChD 'aNY VHV'a 'aYSh KPhThUrVN ChLMV ChLMNV.     and we dream a dream in one night, I and he, each according to the interpretation of his dream we have dreamed.     ubi una nocte uterque vidimus somnium praesagum futurorum
 
12.    There was with us there a young man, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard, and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams. To each man according to his dream he interpreted.     And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.     ושם  אתנו  נער  עברי 
עבד  לשר  הטבחים
ונספר־לו
ויפתר־לנו  את־
חלמתינו  איש  כחלמו
פתר׃
    VShM 'aThNV N'yUr 'yBUrY 'yBD LShUr HTBChYM VNSPhUr-LV VYPhThUr-LNV 'aTh- ChLMThYNV 'aYSh KChLMV PhThUr.     And there is with us a youth, a Hebrew, servant to the chief of the executioners, and we recount to him, and he interpreteth to us our dreams, to each according to his dream hath he interpreted,     erat ibi puer hebraeus eiusdem ducis militum famulus cui narrantes somnia
 
13.    It happened, as he interpreted to us, so it was: he restored me to my office, and he hanged him."     And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.     ויהי  כאשר  פתר־לנו 
כן  היה  אתי  השיב
על־כני  ואתו  תלה׃
    VYHY K'aShUr PhThUr-LNV KN HYH 'aThY HShYB 'yL-KNY V'aThV ThLH.     and it cometh to pass, as he hath interpreted to us so it hath been, me he put back on my station, and him he hanged.`     audivimus quicquid postea rei probavit eventus ego enim redditus sum officio meo et ille suspensus est in cruce
 
14.    Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. He shaved himself, changed his clothing, and came in to Pharaoh.     Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.     וישלח  פרעה  ויקרא 
את־יוסף  ויריצהו
מן־הבור  ויגלח
ויחלף  שמלתיו  ויבא
אל־פרעה׃
    VYShLCh PhUr'yH VYQUr'a 'aTh-YVSPh VYUrYTShHV MN-HBVUr VYGLCh VYChLPh ShMLThYV VYB'a 'aL-PhUr'yH.     And Pharaoh sendeth and calleth Joseph, and they cause him to run out of the pit, and he shaveth, and changeth his garments, and cometh in unto Pharaoh.     protinus ad regis imperium eductum de carcere Ioseph totonderunt ac veste mutata obtulerunt ei
 
15.    Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. I have heard it said of you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it."     And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.     ויאמר  פרעה 
אל־יוסף  חלום
חלמתי  ופתר  אין
אתו  ואני  שמעתי
עליך  לאמר  תשמע
חלום  לפתר  אתו׃
    VY'aMUr PhUr'yH 'aL-YVSPh ChLVM ChLMThY VPhThUr 'aYN 'aThV V'aNY ShM'yThY 'yLYK L'aMUr ThShM'y ChLVM LPhThUr 'aThV.     And Pharaoh saith unto Joseph, `A dream I have dreamed, and there is no interpreter of it, and I -- I have heard concerning thee, saying, Thou understandest a dream to interpret it,`     cui ille ait vidi somnia nec est qui edisserat quae audivi te prudentissime conicere
 
16.    Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, "It isn't in me. God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace."     And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.     ויען  יוסף  את־פרעה 
לאמר  בלעדי  אלהים
יענה  את־שלום
פרעה׃
    VY'yN YVSPh 'aTh-PhUr'yH L'aMUr BL'yDY 'aLHYM Y'yNH 'aTh-ShLVM PhUr'yH.     and Joseph answereth Pharaoh, saying, `Without me -- God doth answer Pharaoh with peace.`     respondit Ioseph absque me Deus respondebit prospera Pharaoni
 
17.    Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, "In my dream, behold, I stood on the brink of the river:     And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river:     וידבר  פרעה 
אל־יוסף  בחלמי
הנני  עמד  על־שפת
היאר׃
    VYDBUr PhUr'yH 'aL-YVSPh BChLMY HNNY 'yMD 'yL-ShPhTh HY'aUr.     And Pharaoh speaketh unto Joseph: `In my dream, lo, I am standing by the edge of the River,     narravit ergo ille quod viderat putabam me stare super ripam fluminis
 
18.    and behold, there came up out of the river seven cattle, fat and sleek. They fed in the marsh grass,     And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favoured; and they fed in a meadow:     והנה  מן־היאר  עלת 
שבע  פרות  בריאות
בשר  ויפת  תאר
ותרעינה  באחו׃
    VHNH MN-HY'aUr 'yLTh ShB'y PhUrVTh BUrY'aVTh BShUr VYPhTh Th'aUr VThUr'yYNH B'aChV.     and lo, out of the River coming up are seven kine, fat in flesh, and of fair form, and they feed among the reeds;     et septem boves de amne conscendere pulchras nimis et obesis carnibus quae in pastu paludis virecta carpebant
 
19.    and behold, seven other cattle came up after them, poor and very ugly and thin, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for ugliness.     And, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:     והנה  שבע־פרות 
אחרות  עלות  אחריהן
דלות  ורעות  תאר
מאד  ורקות  בשר
לא־ראיתי  כהנה
בכל־ארץ  מצרים
לרע׃
    VHNH ShB'y-PhUrVTh 'aChUrVTh 'yLVTh 'aChUrYHN DLVTh VUr'yVTh Th'aUr M'aD VUrQVTh BShUr L'a-Ur'aYThY KHNH BKL-'aUrTSh MTShUrYM LUr'y.     and lo, seven other kine are coming up after them, thin, and of very bad form, and lean in flesh; I have not seen like these in all the land of Egypt for badness.     et ecce has sequebantur aliae septem boves in tantum deformes et macilentae ut numquam tales in terra Aegypti viderim
 
20.    The thin and ugly cattle ate up the first seven fat cattle,     And the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine:     ותאכלנה  הפרות

    VTh'aKLNH HPhUrVTh HUrQVTh VHUr'yVTh 'aTh ShB'y HPhUrVTh HUr'aShNVTh HBUrY'aTh.     `And the lean and the bad kine eat up the first seven fat kine,     quae devoratis et consumptis prioribus
 
21.    and when they had eaten them up, it couldn't be known that they had eaten them, but they were still ugly, as at the beginning. So I awoke.     And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.     ותבאנה  אל־קרבנה 
ולא  נודע  כי־באו
אל־קרבנה  ומראיהן
רע  כאשר  בתחלה
ואיקץ׃
    VThB'aNH 'aL-QUrBNH VL'a NVD'y KY-B'aV 'aL-QUrBNH VMUr'aYHN Ur'y K'aShUr BThChLH V'aYQTSh.     and they come in unto their midst, and it hath not been known that they have come in unto their midst, and their appearance is bad as at the commencement; and I awake.     nullum saturitatis dedere vestigium sed simili macie et squalore torpebant evigilans rursum sopore depressus
 
22.    I saw in my dream, and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, full and good:     And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and good:     וארא  בחלמי  והנה 
שבע  שבלים  עלת
בקנה  אחד  מלאת
וטבות׃
    V'aUr'a BChLMY VHNH ShB'y ShBLYM 'yLTh BQNH 'aChD ML'aTh VTBVTh.     `And I see in my dream, and lo, seven ears are coming up on one stalk, full and good;     vidi somnium septem spicae pullulabant in culmo uno plenae atque pulcherrimae
 
23.    and behold, seven heads of grain, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.     And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them:     והנה  שבע  שבלים 
צנמות  דקות  שדפות
קדים  צמחות
אחריהם׃
    VHNH ShB'y ShBLYM TShNMVTh DQVTh ShDPhVTh QDYM TShMChVTh 'aChUrYHM.     and lo, seven ears, withered, thin, blasted with an east wind, are springing up after them;     aliae quoque septem tenues et percussae uredine oriebantur stipula
 
24.    The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven good heads of grain. I told it to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me."     And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.     ותבלען  השבלים 
הדקת  את  שבע
השבלים  הטבות  ואמר
אל־החרטמים  ואין
מגיד  לי׃
    VThBL'yN HShBLYM HDQTh 'aTh ShB'y HShBLYM HTBVTh V'aMUr 'aL-HChUrTMYM V'aYN MGYD LY.     and the thin ears swallow the seven good ears; and I tell unto the scribes, and there is none declaring to me.`     quae priorum pulchritudinem devorarunt narravi coniectoribus somnium et nemo est qui edisserat
 
25.    Joseph said to Pharaoh, "The dream of Pharaoh is one. What God is about to do he has declared to Pharaoh.     And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.     ויאמר  יוסף 
אל־פרעה  חלום  פרעה
אחד  הוא  את  אשר
האלהים  עשה  הגיד
לפרעה׃
    VY'aMUr YVSPh 'aL-PhUr'yH ChLVM PhUr'yH 'aChD HV'a 'aTh 'aShUr H'aLHYM 'yShH HGYD LPhUr'yH.     And Joseph saith unto Pharaoh, `The dream of Pharaoh is one: that which God is doing he hath declared to Pharaoh;     respondit Ioseph somnium regis unum est quae facturus est Deus ostendit Pharaoni
 
26.    The seven good cattle are seven years; and the seven good heads of grain are seven years. The dream is one.     The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one.     שבע  פרת  הטבת  שבע 
שנים  הנה  ושבע
השבלים  הטבת  שבע
שנים  הנה  חלום  אחד
הוא׃
    ShB'y PhUrTh HTBTh ShB'y ShNYM HNH VShB'y HShBLYM HTBTh ShB'y ShNYM HNH ChLVM 'aChD HV'a.     the seven good kine are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years, the dream is one;     septem boves pulchrae et septem spicae plenae septem ubertatis anni sunt eandemque vim somnii conprehendunt
 
27.    The seven thin and ugly cattle that came up after them are seven years, and also the seven empty heads of grain blasted with the east wind; they will be seven years of famine.     And the seven thin and ill favoured kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine.     ושבע  הפרות  הרקות 
והרעת  העלת  אחריהן
שבע  שנים  הנה  ושבע
השבלים  הרקות
שדפות  הקדים  יהיו
שבע  שני  רעב׃
    VShB'y HPhUrVTh HUrQVTh VHUr'yTh H'yLTh 'aChUrYHN ShB'y ShNYM HNH VShB'y HShBLYM HUrQVTh ShDPhVTh HQDYM YHYV ShB'y ShNY Ur'yB.     and the seven thin and bad kine which are coming up after them are seven years, and the seven empty ears, blasted with an east wind, are seven years of famine;     septem quoque boves tenues atque macilentae quae ascenderunt post eas et septem spicae tenues et vento urente percussae septem anni sunt venturae famis
 
28.    That is the thing which I spoke to Pharaoh. What God is about to do he has shown to Pharaoh.     This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh.     הוא  הדבר  אשר 
דברתי  אל־פרעה  אשר
האלהים  עשה  הראה
את־פרעה׃
    HV'a HDBUr 'aShUr DBUrThY 'aL-PhUr'yH 'aShUr H'aLHYM 'yShH HUr'aH 'aTh-PhUr'yH.     this is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: That which God is doing, he hath shewn Pharaoh.     qui hoc ordine conplebuntur
 
29.    Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt.     Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:     הנה  שבע  שנים  באות 
שבע  גדול  בכל־ארץ
מצרים׃
    HNH ShB'y ShNYM B'aVTh ShB'y GDVL BKL-'aUrTSh MTShUrYM.     `Lo, seven years are coming of great abundance in all the land of Egypt,     ecce septem anni venient fertilitatis magnae in universa terra Aegypti
 
30.    There will arise after them seven years of famine, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt. The famine will consume the land,     And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;     וקמו  שבע  שני  רעב 
אחריהן  ונשכח
כל־השבע  בארץ
מצרים  וכלה  הרעב
את־הארץ׃
    VQMV ShB'y ShNY Ur'yB 'aChUrYHN VNShKCh KL-HShB'y B'aUrTSh MTShUrYM VKLH HUr'yB 'aTh-H'aUrTSh.     and seven years of famine have arisen after them, and all the plenty is forgotten in the land of Egypt, and the famine hath finished the land,     quos sequentur septem anni alii tantae sterilitatis ut oblivioni tradatur cuncta retro abundantia consumptura est enim fames omnem terram
 
31.    and the plenty will not be known in the land by reason of that famine which follows; for it will be very grievous.     And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.     ולא־יודע  השבע 
בארץ  מפני  הרעב
ההוא  אחרי־כן
כי־כבד  הוא  מאד׃
    VL'a-YVD'y HShB'y B'aUrTSh MPhNY HUr'yB HHV'a 'aChUrY-KN KY-KBD HV'a M'aD.     and the plenty is not known in the land because of that famine afterwards, for it is very grievous.     et ubertatis magnitudinem perditura inopiae magnitudo
 
32.    The dream was doubled to Pharaoh, because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.     And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.     ועל  השנות  החלום 
אל־פרעה  פעמים
כי־נכון  הדבר  מעם
האלהים  וממהר
האלהים  לעשתו׃
    V'yL HShNVTh HChLVM 'aL-PhUr'yH Ph'yMYM KY-NKVN HDBUr M'yM H'aLHYM VMMHUr H'aLHYM L'yShThV.     `And because of the repeating of the dream unto Pharaoh twice, surely the thing is established by God, and God is hastening to do it.     quod autem vidisti secundo ad eandem rem pertinens somnium firmitatis indicium est eo quod fiat sermo Dei et velocius impleatur
 
33.    "Now therefore let Pharaoh look for a discreet and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt.     Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.     ועתה  ירא  פרעה  איש 
נבון  וחכם  וישיתהו
על־ארץ  מצרים׃
    V'yThH YUr'a PhUr'yH 'aYSh NBVN VChKM VYShYThHV 'yL-'aUrTSh MTShUrYM.     `And now, let Pharaoh provide a man, intelligent and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt;     nunc ergo provideat rex virum sapientem et industrium et praeficiat eum terrae Aegypti

35.    Let them gather all the food of these good years that come, and lay up grain under the hand of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it.     And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.     ויקבצו  את־כל־אכל

36.    The food will be for a store to the land against the seven years of famine, which will be in the land of Egypt; that the land not perish through the famine."     And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.     והיה  האכל  לפקדון

הרעב  אשר  תהיין
בארץ  מצרים  ולא־
תכרת  הארץ  ברעב׃
    VHYH H'aKL LPhQDVN L'aUrTSh LShB'y ShNY HUr'yB 'aShUr ThHYYN B'aUrTSh MTShUrYM VL'a- ThKUrTh H'aUrTSh BUr'yB.     and the food hath been for a store for the land, for the seven years of famine which are in the land of Egypt; and the land is cut off by the famine.`     et paretur futurae septem annorum fami quae pressura est Aegyptum et non consumetur terra inopia
 
37.    The thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.     And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.     וייטב  הדבר  בעיני

38.    Pharaoh said to his servants, "Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?"     And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?     ויאמר  פרעה

כזה  איש  אשר  רוח
אלהים  בו׃
    VY'aMUr PhUr'yH 'aL-'yBDYV HNMTSh'a KZH 'aYSh 'aShUr UrVCh 'aLHYM BV.     and Pharaoh saith unto his servants, `Do we find like this, a man in whom the spirit of God is?`     locutusque est ad eos num invenire poterimus talem virum qui spiritu Dei plenus sit
 
39.    Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Because God has shown you all of this, there is none so discreet and wise as you.     And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:     ויאמר  פרעה 
אל־יוסף  אחרי
הודיע  אלהים  אותך
את־כל־זאת
אין־נבון  וחכם
כמוך׃
    VY'aMUr PhUr'yH 'aL-YVSPh 'aChUrY HVDY'y 'aLHYM 'aVThK 'aTh-KL-Z'aTh 'aYN-NBVN VChKM KMVK.     and Pharaoh saith unto Joseph, `After God`s causing thee to know all this, there is none intelligent and wise as thou;     dixit ergo ad Ioseph quia ostendit Deus tibi omnia quae locutus es numquid sapientiorem et similem tui invenire potero
 
40.    You shall be over my house, and according to your word will all my people be ruled. Only in the throne I will be greater than you."     Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.     אתה  תהיה  על־ביתי 
ועל־פיך  ישק
כל־עמי  רק  הכסא
אגדל  ממך׃
    'aThH ThHYH 'yL-BYThY V'yL-PhYK YShQ KL-'yMY UrQ HKS'a 'aGDL MMK.     thou -- thou art over my house, and at thy mouth do all my people kiss; only in the throne I am greater than thou.`     tu eris super domum meam et ad tui oris imperium cunctus populus oboediet uno tantum regni solio te praecedam
 
41.    Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Behold, I have set you over all the land of Egypt."     And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.     ויאמר  פרעה 
אל־יוסף  ראה  נתתי
אתך  על  כל־ארץ
מצרים׃
    VY'aMUr PhUr'yH 'aL-YVSPh Ur'aH NThThY 'aThK 'yL KL-'aUrTSh MTShUrYM.     And Pharaoh saith unto Joseph, `See, I have put thee over all the land of Egypt.`     dicens quoque rursum Pharao ad Ioseph ecce constitui te super universam terram Aegypti
 
42.    Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in robes of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck,     And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;     ויסר  פרעה 
את־טבעתו  מעל  ידו
ויתן  אתה  על־יד

    VYSUr PhUr'yH 'aTh-TB'yThV M'yL YDV VYThN 'aThH 'yL-YD YVSPh VYLBSh 'aThV BGDY-ShSh VYShM UrBD HZHB 'yL-TShV'aUrV.     And Pharaoh turneth aside his seal-ring from off his hand, and putteth it on the hand of Joseph, and clotheth him with garments of fine linen, and placeth a chain of gold on his neck,     tulit anulum de manu sua et dedit in manu eius vestivitque eum stola byssina et collo torquem auream circumposuit
 
43.    and he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had. They cried before him, "Bow the knee!" He set him over all the land of Egypt.     And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.     וירכב  אתו  במרכבת

44.    Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I am Pharaoh, and without you shall no man lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt."     And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.     ויאמר  פרעה 
אל־יוסף  אני  פרעה
ובלעדיך  לא־ירים
איש  את־ידו  ואת־
רגלו  בכל־ארץ
מצרים׃
    VY'aMUr PhUr'yH 'aL-YVSPh 'aNY PhUr'yH VBL'yDYK L'a-YUrYM 'aYSh 'aTh-YDV V'aTh- UrGLV BKL-'aUrTSh MTShUrYM.     And Pharaoh saith unto Joseph, `I am Pharaoh, and without thee a man doth not lift up his hand and his foot in all the land of Egypt;`     dixit quoque rex ad Ioseph ego sum Pharao absque tuo imperio non movebit quisquam manum aut pedem in omni terra Aegypti
 
45.    Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphenath-Paneah; and he gave him Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On as a wife. Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.     And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnathpaaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.     ויקרא  פרעה 
שם־יוסף  צפנת  פענח
ויתן־לו  את־אסנת
בת־פוטי  פרע  כהן
אן  לאשה  ויצא  יוסף
על־ארץ  מצרים׃
    VYQUr'a PhUr'yH ShM-YVSPh TShPhNTh Ph'yNCh VYThN-LV 'aTh-'aSNTh BTh-PhVTY PhUr'y KHN 'aN L'aShH VYTSh'a YVSPh 'yL-'aUrTSh MTShUrYM.     and Pharaoh calleth Joseph`s name Zaphnath-Paaneah, and he giveth to him Asenath daughter of Poti-Pherah, priest of On, for a wife, and Joseph goeth out over the land of Egypt.     vertitque nomen illius et vocavit eum lingua aegyptiaca Salvatorem mundi dedit quoque illi uxorem Aseneth filiam Putiphare sacerdotis Heliopoleos egressus itaque Ioseph ad terram Aegypti
 
46.    Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.     And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt.     VYVSPh BN-ShLShYM ShNH B'yMDV LPhNY PhUr'yH MLK-MTShUrYM VYTSh'a YVSPh MLPhNY PhUr'yH VY'yBUr BKL-'aUrTSh MTShUrYM.     And Joseph is a son of thirty years in his standing before Pharaoh king of Egypt, and Joseph goeth out from the presence of Pharaoh, and passeth over through all the land of Egypt;     triginta autem erat annorum quando stetit in conspectu regis Pharaonis circuivit omnes regiones Aegypti
 
47.    In the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth abundantly.     And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.     ותעש  הארץ  בשבע 
שני  השבע  לקמצים׃
    VTh'ySh H'aUrTSh BShB'y ShNY HShB'y LQMTShYM.     and the land maketh in the seven years of plenty by handfuls.     venitque fertilitas septem annorum et in manipulos redactae segetes congregatae sunt in horrea Aegypti
 
48.    He gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was around every city, he laid up in the same.     And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.     ויקבץ  את־כל־אכל

    VYQBTSh 'aTh-KL-'aKL ShB'y ShNYM 'aShUr HYV B'aUrTSh MTShUrYM VYThN-'aKL B'yUrYM 'aKL ShDH-H'yYUr 'aShUr SBYBThYH NThN BThVKH.     And he gathereth all the food of the seven years which have been in the land of Egypt, and putteth food in the cities; the food of the field which is round about each city hath he put in its midst;     omnis etiam frugum abundantia in singulis urbibus condita est
 
49.    Joseph laid up grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he stopped counting, for it was without number.     And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number.     ויצבר  יוסף  בר 
כחול  הים  הרבה  מאד
עד  כי־חדל  לספר
כי־אין  מספר׃
    VYTShBUr YVSPh BUr KChVL HYM HUrBH M'aD 'yD KY-ChDL LSPhUr KY-'aYN MSPhUr.     and Joseph gathereth corn as sand of the sea, multiplying exceedingly, until that he hath ceased to number, for there is no number.     tantaque fuit multitudo tritici ut harenae maris coaequaretur et copia mensuram excederet
 
50.    To Joseph were born two sons before the year of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, bore to him.     And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bare unto him.     וליוסף  ילד  שני

    VLYVSPh YLD ShNY BNYM BTUrM ThBV'a ShNTh HUr'yB 'aShUr YLDH-LV 'aSNTh BTh- PhVTY PhUr'y KHN 'aVN.     And to Joseph were born two sons before the year of famine cometh, whom Asenath daughter of Poti-Pherah, priest of On, hath borne to him,     nati sunt autem Ioseph filii duo antequam veniret fames quos ei peperit Aseneth filia Putiphare sacerdotis Heliopoleos
 
51.    Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh,{"Manasseh" sounds like the Hebrew for "forget."} "For," he said, "God has made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house."     And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house.     ויקרא  יוסף  את־שם 
הבכור  מנשה
כי־נשני  אלהים
את־כל־עמלי  ואת
כל־  בית  אבי׃
    VYQUr'a YVSPh 'aTh-ShM HBKVUr MNShH KY-NShNY 'aLHYM 'aTh-KL-'yMLY V'aTh KL- BYTh 'aBY.     and Joseph calleth the name of the first-born Manasseh: `for, God hath made me to forget all my labour, and all the house of my father;`     vocavitque nomen primogeniti Manasse dicens oblivisci me fecit Deus omnium laborum meorum et domum patris mei
 
52.    The name of the second, he called Ephraim{"Ephraim" sounds like the Hebrew for "twice fruitful."}: "For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction."     And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.     ואת  שם  השני  קרא 
אפרים  כי־הפרני
אלהים  בארץ  עניי׃
    V'aTh ShM HShNY QUr'a 'aPhUrYM KY-HPhUrNY 'aLHYM B'aUrTSh 'yNYY.     and the name of the second he hath called Ephraim: `for, God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of mine affliction.`     nomen quoque secundi appellavit Ephraim dicens crescere me fecit Deus in terra paupertatis meae
 
53.    The seven years of plenty, that were in the land of Egypt, came to an end.     And the seven years of plenteousness, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended.     ותכלינה  שבע  שני

    VThKLYNH ShB'y ShNY HShB'y 'aShUr HYH B'aUrTSh MTShUrYM.     And the seven years of plenty are completed which have been in the land of Egypt,     igitur transactis septem annis ubertatis qui fuerant in Aegypto
 
54.    The seven years of famine began to come, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.     And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.     ותחלינה  שבע  שני 
הרעב  לבוא  כאשר
אמר  יוסף  ויהי  רעב
בכל־הארצות
ובכל־ארץ  מצרים
היה  לחם׃

55.    When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread, and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, "Go to Joseph. What he says to you, do."     And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.     ותרעב  כל־ארץ 
מצרים  ויצעק  העם
אל־פרעה  ללחם
ויאמר  פרעה  לכל־
מצרים  לכו  אל־יוסף
אשר־יאמר  לכם
תעשו׃
    VThUr'yB KL-'aUrTSh MTShUrYM VYTSh'yQ H'yM 'aL-PhUr'yH LLChM VY'aMUr PhUr'yH LKL- MTShUrYM LKV 'aL-YVSPh 'aShUr-Y'aMUr LKM Th'yShV.     and all the land of Egypt is famished, and the people crieth unto Pharaoh for bread, and Pharaoh saith to all the Egyptians, `Go unto Joseph; that which he saith to you -- do.`     qua esuriente clamavit populus ad Pharaonem alimenta petens quibus ille respondit ite ad Ioseph et quicquid vobis dixerit facite
 
56.    The famine was over all the surface of the earth. Joseph opened all the store houses, and sold to the Egyptians. The famine was severe in the land of Egypt.     And the famine was over all the face of the earth: And Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.     והרעב  היה  על 
כל־פני  הארץ  ויפתח
יוסף  את־כל־אשר
בהם  וישבר  למצרים
ויחזק  הרעב  בארץ
מצרים׃
    VHUr'yB HYH 'yL KL-PhNY H'aUrTSh VYPhThCh YVSPh 'aTh-KL-'aShUr BHM VYShBUr LMTShUrYM VYChZQ HUr'yB B'aUrTSh MTShUrYM.     And the famine has been over all the face of the land, and Joseph openeth all places which have corn in them, and selleth to the Egyptians; and the famine is severe in the land of Egypt,     crescebat autem cotidie fames in omni terra aperuitque Ioseph universa horrea et vendebat Aegyptiis nam et illos oppresserat fames
 
57.    All countries came into Egypt, to Joseph, to buy grain, because the famine was severe in all the earth.     And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.     וכל־הארץ  באו 
מצרימה  לשבר

הרעב  בכל־הארץ׃
