1.    Now Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, and Jacob said to his sons, "Why do you look at one another?"     Now when Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another?     וירא  יעקב  כי 
יש־שבר  במצרים
ויאמר  יעקב  לבניו
למה  תתראו׃
    VYUr'a Y'yQB KY YSh-ShBUr BMTShUrYM VY'aMUr Y'yQB LBNYV LMH ThThUr'aV.     And Jacob seeth that there is corn in Egypt, and Jacob saith to his sons, `Why do you look at each other?`     audiens autem Iacob quod alimenta venderentur in Aegypto dixit filiis suis quare neglegitis
 
2.    He said, "Behold, I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there, and buy for us from there, so that we may live, and not die."     And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die.     ויאמר  הנה  שמעתי 
כי  יש־שבר  במצרים
רדו־שמה  ושברו־לנו
משם  ונחיה  ולא
נמות׃
    VY'aMUr HNH ShM'yThY KY YSh-ShBUr BMTShUrYM UrDV-ShMH VShBUrV-LNV MShM VNChYH VL'a NMVTh.     he saith also, `Lo, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt, go down thither, and buy for us from thence, and we live and do not die;`     audivi quod triticum venundetur in Aegypto descendite et emite nobis necessaria ut possimus vivere et non consumamur inopia
 
3.    Joseph's ten brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt.     And Joseph's ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt.     וירדו  אחי־יוסף 
עשרה  לשבר  בר
ממצרים׃
    VYUrDV 'aChY-YVSPh 'yShUrH LShBUr BUr MMTShUrYM.     and the ten brethren of Joseph go down to buy corn in Egypt,     descendentes igitur fratres Ioseph decem ut emerent frumenta in Aegypto
 
4.    But Jacob didn't send Benjamin, Joseph's brother, with his brothers; for he said, "Lest perhaps harm happen to him."     But Benjamin, Joseph's brother, Jacob sent not with his brethren; for he said, Lest peradventure mischief befall him.     ואת־בנימין  אחי 
יוסף  לא־שלח  יעקב
את־אחיו  כי  אמר
פן־יקראנו  אסון׃
    V'aTh-BNYMYN 'aChY YVSPh L'a-ShLCh Y'yQB 'aTh-'aChYV KY 'aMUr PhN-YQUr'aNV 'aSVN.     and Benjamin, Joseph`s brother, Jacob hath not sent with his brethren, for he said, `Lest mischief meet him.`     Beniamin domi retento ab Iacob qui dixerat fratribus eius ne forte in itinere quicquam patiatur mali
 
5.    The sons of Israel came to buy among those who came, for the famine was in the land of Canaan.     And the sons of Israel came to buy corn among those that came: for the famine was in the land of Canaan.     ויבאו  בני  ישראל 
לשבר  בתוך  הבאים
כי־היה  הרעב  בארץ
כנען׃
    VYB'aV BNY YShUr'aL LShBUr BThVK HB'aYM KY-HYH HUr'yB B'aUrTSh KN'yN.     And the sons of Israel come to buy in the midst of those coming, for the famine hath been in the land of Canaan,     ingressi sunt terram Aegypti cum aliis qui pergebant ad emendum erat autem fames in terra Chanaan
 
6.    Joseph was the governor over the land. It was he who sold to all the people of the land. Joseph's brothers came, and bowed themselves down to him with their faces to the earth.     And Joseph was the governor over the land, and he it was that sold to all the people of the land: and Joseph's brethren came, and bowed down themselves before him with their faces to the earth.     ויוסף  הוא  השליט 
על־הארץ  הוא
המשביר  לכל־עם
הארץ  ויבאו  אחי
יוסף  וישתחוו־לו
אפים  ארצה׃
    VYVSPh HV'a HShLYT 'yL-H'aUrTSh HV'a HMShBYUr LKL-'yM H'aUrTSh VYB'aV 'aChY YVSPh VYShThChVV-LV 'aPhYM 'aUrTShH.     and Joseph is the ruler over the land, he who is selling to all the people of the land, and Joseph`s brethren come and bow themselves to him -- face to the earth.     et Ioseph princeps Aegypti atque ad illius nutum frumenta populis vendebantur cumque adorassent eum fratres sui
 
7.    Joseph saw his brothers, and he recognized them, but acted like a stranger to them, and spoke roughly with them. He said to them, "Where did you come from?" They said, "From the land of Canaan to buy food."     And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and spake roughly unto them; and he said unto them, Whence come ye? And they said, From the land of Canaan to buy food.     וירא  יוסף  את־אחיו 
ויכרם  ויתנכר
אליהם  וידבר  אתם
קשות  ויאמר  אלהם
מאין  באתם  ויאמרו
מארץ  כנען
לשבר־אכל׃
    VYUr'a YVSPh 'aTh-'aChYV VYKUrM VYThNKUr 'aLYHM VYDBUr 'aThM QShVTh VY'aMUr 'aLHM M'aYN B'aThM VY'aMUrV M'aUrTSh KN'yN LShBUr-'aKL.     And Joseph seeth his brethren, and discerneth them, and maketh himself strange unto them, and speaketh with them sharp things, and saith unto them, `From whence have ye come?` and they say, `From the land of Canaan -- to buy food.`     et agnovisset eos quasi ad alienos durius loquebatur interrogans eos unde venistis qui responderunt de terra Chanaan ut emamus victui necessaria
 
8.    Joseph recognized his brothers, but they didn't recognize him.     And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.     ויכר  יוסף  את־אחיו 
והם  לא  הכרהו׃
    VYKUr YVSPh 'aTh-'aChYV VHM L'a HKUrHV.     And Joseph discerneth his brethren, but they have not discerned him,     et tamen fratres ipse cognoscens non est agnitus ab eis
 
9.    Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed about them, and said to them, "You are spies! You have come to see the nakedness of the land."     And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye are spies; to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.     ויזכר  יוסף  את 
החלמות  אשר  חלם
להם  ויאמר  אלהם
מרגלים  אתם  לראות
את־ערות  הארץ
באתם׃
    VYZKUr YVSPh 'aTh HChLMVTh 'aShUr ChLM LHM VY'aMUr 'aLHM MUrGLYM 'aThM LUr'aVTh 'aTh-'yUrVTh H'aUrTSh B'aThM.     and Joseph remembereth the dreams which he dreamed of them, and saith unto them, `Ye are spies; to see the nakedness of the land ye have come.`     recordatusque somniorum quae aliquando viderat ait exploratores estis ut videatis infirmiora terrae venistis
 
10.    They said to him, "No, my lord, but your servants have come to buy food.     And they said unto him, Nay, my lord, but to buy food are thy servants come.     ויאמרו  אליו  לא 
אדני  ועבדיך  באו
לשבר־אכל׃
    VY'aMUrV 'aLYV L'a 'aDNY V'yBDYK B'aV LShBUr-'aKL.     And they say unto him, `No, my lord, but thy servants have come to buy food;     qui dixerunt non est ita domine sed servi tui venerunt ut emerent cibos
 
11.    We are all one man's sons; we are honest men. Your servants are not spies."     We are all one man's sons; we are true men, thy servants are no spies.     כלנו  בני  איש־אחד 
נחנו  כנים  אנחנו
לא־היו  עבדיך
מרגלים׃
    KLNV BNY 'aYSh-'aChD NChNV KNYM 'aNChNV L'a-HYV 'yBDYK MUrGLYM.     we are all of us sons of one man, we are right men; thy servants have not been spies;`     omnes filii unius viri sumus pacifici venimus nec quicquam famuli tui machinantur mali
 
12.    He said to them, "No, but you have come to see the nakedness of the land!"     And he said unto them, Nay, but to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.     ויאמר  אלהם  לא 
כי־ערות  הארץ  באתם
לראות׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHM L'a KY-'yUrVTh H'aUrTSh B'aThM LUr'aVTh.     and he saith unto them, `No, but the nakedness of the land ye have come to see;`     quibus ille respondit aliter est inmunita terrae huius considerare venistis
 
13.    They said, "We, your servants, are twelve brothers, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is no more."     And they said, Thy servants are twelve brethren, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and, behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is not.     ויאמרו  שנים  עשר 
עבדיך  אחים  אנחנו
בני  איש־אחד  בארץ
כנען  והנה  הקטן
את־אבינו  היום
והאחד  איננו׃
    VY'aMUrV ShNYM 'yShUr 'yBDYK 'aChYM 'aNChNV BNY 'aYSh-'aChD B'aUrTSh KN'yN VHNH HQTN 'aTh-'aBYNV HYVM VH'aChD 'aYNNV.     and they say, `Thy servants are twelve brethren; we are sons of one man in the land of Canaan, and lo, the young one is with our father to-day, and the one is not.`     et illi duodecim inquiunt servi tui fratres sumus filii viri unius in terra Chanaan minimus cum patre nostro est alius non est super
 
14.    Joseph said to them, "It is like I told you, saying, 'You are spies!'     And Joseph said unto them, That is it that I spake unto you, saying, Ye are spies:     ויאמר  אלהם  יוסף 
הוא  אשר  דברתי
אלכם  לאמר  מרגלים
אתם׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHM YVSPh HV'a 'aShUr DBUrThY 'aLKM L'aMUr MUrGLYM 'aThM.     And Joseph saith unto them, `This is that which I have spoken unto you, saying, Ye are spies,     hoc est ait quod locutus sum exploratores estis
 
15.    By this you shall be tested. By the life of Pharaoh, you shall not go forth from here, unless your youngest brother comes here.     Hereby ye shall be proved: By the life of Pharaoh ye shall not go forth hence, except your youngest brother come hither.     בזאת  תבחנו  חי 
פרעה  אם־תצאו  מזה
כי  אם־בבוא  אחיכם
הקטן  הנה׃
    BZ'aTh ThBChNV ChY PhUr'yH 'aM-ThTSh'aV MZH KY 'aM-BBV'a 'aChYKM HQTN HNH.     by this ye are proved: Pharaoh liveth! if ye go out from this -- except by your young brother coming hither;     iam nunc experimentum vestri capiam per salutem Pharaonis non egrediemini hinc donec veniat frater vester minimus
 
16.    Send one of you, and let him get your brother, and you shall be bound, that your words may be tested, whether there is truth in you, or else by the life of Pharaoh surely you are spies."     Send one of you, and let him fetch your brother, and ye shall be kept in prison, that your words may be proved, whether there be any truth in you: or else by the life of Pharaoh surely ye are spies.     שלחו  מכם  אחד  ויקח 
את־אחיכם  ואתם
האסרו  ויבחנו
דבריכם  האמת  אתכם
ואם־לא  חי  פרעה  כי
מרגלים  אתם׃
    ShLChV MKM 'aChD VYQCh 'aTh-'aChYKM V'aThM H'aSUrV VYBChNV DBUrYKM H'aMTh 'aThKM V'aM-L'a ChY PhUr'yH KY MUrGLYM 'aThM.     send one of you, and let him bring your brother, and ye, remain ye bound, and let your words be proved, whether truth be with you: and if not -- Pharaoh liveth! surely ye are spies;`     mittite e vobis unum et adducat eum vos autem eritis in vinculis donec probentur quae dixistis utrum falsa an vera sint alioquin per salutem Pharaonis exploratores estis
 
17.    He put them all together into custody for three days.     And he put them all together into ward three days.     ויאסף  אתם  אל־משמר 
שלשת  ימים׃
    VY'aSPh 'aThM 'aL-MShMUr ShLShTh YMYM.     and he removeth them unto charge three days.     tradidit ergo eos custodiae tribus diebus
 
18.    Joseph said to them the third day, "Do this, and live, for I fear God.     And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live; for I fear God:     ויאמר  אלהם  יוסף 
ביום  השלישי  זאת
עשו  וחיו
את־האלהים  אני
ירא׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHM YVSPh BYVM HShLYShY Z'aTh 'yShV VChYV 'aTh-H'aLHYM 'aNY YUr'a.     And Joseph saith unto them on the third day, `This do and live; God I fear!     die autem tertio eductis de carcere ait facite quod dixi et vivetis Deum enim timeo
 
19.    If you are honest men, then let one of your brothers be bound in your prison; but you go, carry grain for the famine of your houses.     If ye be true men, let one of your brethren be bound in the house of your prison: go ye, carry corn for the famine of your houses:     אם־כנים  אתם  אחיכם 
אחד  יאסר  בבית
משמרכם  ואתם  לכו
הביאו  שבר  רעבון
בתיכם׃
    'aM-KNYM 'aThM 'aChYKM 'aChD Y'aSUr BBYTh MShMUrKM V'aThM LKV HBY'aV ShBUr Ur'yBVN BThYKM.     if ye are right men, let one of your brethren be bound in the house of your ward, and ye, go, carry in corn for the famine of your houses,     si pacifici estis frater vester unus ligetur in carcere vos autem abite et ferte frumenta quae emistis in domos vestras
 
20.    Bring your youngest brother to me; so will your words be verified, and you won't die." They did so.     But bring your youngest brother unto me; so shall your words be verified, and ye shall not die. And they did so.     ואת־אחיכם  הקטן 
תביאו  אלי  ויאמנו
דבריכם  ולא  תמותו
ויעשו־כן׃
    V'aTh-'aChYKM HQTN ThBY'aV 'aLY VY'aMNV DBUrYKM VL'a ThMVThV VY'yShV-KN.     and your young brother ye bring unto me, and your words are established, and ye die not;` and they do so.     et fratrem vestrum minimum ad me adducite ut possim vestros probare sermones et non moriamini fecerunt ut dixerat
 
21.    They said one to another, "We are certainly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he begged us, and we wouldn't listen. Therefore this distress has come upon us."     And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.     ויאמרו  איש 
אל־אחיו  אבל  אשמים
אנחנו  על־אחינו
אשר  ראינו  צרת
נפשו  בהתחננו
אלינו  ולא  שמענו
על־כן  באה  אלינו
הצרה  הזאת׃
    VY'aMUrV 'aYSh 'aL-'aChYV 'aBL 'aShMYM 'aNChNV 'yL-'aChYNV 'aShUr Ur'aYNV TShUrTh NPhShV BHThChNNV 'aLYNV VL'a ShM'yNV 'yL-KN B'aH 'aLYNV HTShUrH HZ'aTh.     And they say one unto another, `Verily we are guilty concerning our brother, because we saw the distress of his soul, in his making supplication unto us, and we did not hearken: therefore hath this distress come upon us.`     et locuti sunt invicem merito haec patimur quia peccavimus in fratrem nostrum videntes angustiam animae illius cum deprecaretur nos et non audivimus idcirco venit super nos ista tribulatio
 
22.    Reuben answered them, saying, "Didn't I tell you, saying, 'Don't sin against the child,' and you wouldn't listen? Therefore also, behold, his blood is required."     And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required.     ויען  ראובן  אתם 
לאמר  הלוא  אמרתי
אליכם  לאמר
אל־תחטאו  בילד  ולא
שמעתם  וגם־דמו  הנה
נדרש׃
    VY'yN Ur'aVBN 'aThM L'aMUr HLV'a 'aMUrThY 'aLYKM L'aMUr 'aL-ThChT'aV BYLD VL'a ShM'yThM VGM-DMV HNH NDUrSh.     And Reuben answereth them, saying, `Spake I not unto you, saying, Sin not against the lad? and ye hearkened not; and his blood also, lo, it is required.`     e quibus unus Ruben ait numquid non dixi vobis nolite peccare in puerum et non audistis me en sanguis eius exquiritur
 
23.    They didn't know that Joseph understood them; for there was an interpreter between them.     And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for he spake unto them by an interpreter.     והם  לא  ידעו  כי 
שמע  יוסף  כי  המליץ
בינתם׃
    VHM L'a YD'yV KY ShM'y YVSPh KY HMLYTSh BYNThM.     And they have not known that Joseph understandeth, for the interpreter is between them;     nesciebant autem quod intellegeret Ioseph eo quod per interpretem loquebatur ad eos
 
24.    He turned himself away from them, and wept. Then he returned to them, and spoke to them, and took Simeon from among them, and bound him before their eyes.     And he turned himself about from them, and wept; and returned to them again, and communed with them, and took from them Simeon, and bound him before their eyes.     ויסב  מעליהם  ויבך 
וישב  אלהם  וידבר
אלהם  ויקח  מאתם
את־שמעון  ויאסר
אתו  לעיניהם׃
    VYSB M'yLYHM VYBK VYShB 'aLHM VYDBUr 'aLHM VYQCh M'aThM 'aTh-ShM'yVN VY'aSUr 'aThV L'yYNYHM.     and he turneth round from them, and weepeth, and turneth back unto them, and speaketh unto them, and taketh from them Simeon, and bindeth him before their eyes.     avertitque se parumper et flevit et reversus locutus est ad eos
 
25.    Then Joseph gave a command to fill their bags with grain, and to restore every man's money into his sack, and to give them food for the way. So it was done to them.     Then Joseph commanded to fill their sacks with corn, and to restore every man's money into his sack, and to give them provision for the way: and thus did he unto them.     ויצו  יוסף  וימלאו 
את־כליהם  בר
ולהשיב  כספיהם  איש
אל־שקו  ולתת  להם
צדה  לדרך  ויעש  להם
כן׃
    VYTShV YVSPh VYML'aV 'aTh-KLYHM BUr VLHShYB KSPhYHM 'aYSh 'aL-ShQV VLThTh LHM TShDH LDUrK VY'ySh LHM KN.     And Joseph commandeth, and they fill their vessels with corn, also to put back the money of each unto his sack, and to give to them provision for the way; and one doth to them so.     tollens Symeon et ligans illis praesentibus iussitque ministris ut implerent saccos eorum tritico et reponerent pecunias singulorum in sacculis suis datis supra cibariis in via qui fecerunt ita
 
26.    They loaded their donkeys with their grain, and departed from there.     And they laded their asses with the corn, and departed thence.     וישאו  את־שברם 
על־חמריהם  וילכו
משם׃
    VYSh'aV 'aTh-ShBUrM 'yL-ChMUrYHM VYLKV MShM.     And they lift up their corn upon their asses, and go from thence,     at illi portantes frumenta in asinis profecti sunt
 
27.    As one of them opened his sack to give his donkey food in the lodging place, he saw his money. Behold, it was in the mouth of his sack.     And as one of them opened his sack to give his ass provender in the inn, he espied his money; for, behold, it was in his sack's mouth.     ויפתח  האחד  את־שקו 
לתת  מספוא  לחמרו
במלון  וירא
את־כספו  והנה־  הוא
בפי  אמתחתו׃
    VYPhThCh H'aChD 'aTh-ShQV LThTh MSPhV'a LChMUrV BMLVN VYUr'a 'aTh-KSPhV VHNH- HV'a BPhY 'aMThChThV.     and the one openeth his sack to give provender to his ass at a lodging-place, and he seeth his money, and lo, it is in the mouth of his bag,     apertoque unus sacco ut daret iumento pabulum in diversorio contemplatus pecuniam in ore sacculi
 
28.    He said to his brothers, "My money is restored! Behold, it is in my sack!" Their hearts failed them, and they turned trembling one to another, saying, "What is this that God has done to us?"     And he said unto his brethren, My money is restored; and, lo, it is even in my sack: and their heart failed them, and they were afraid, saying one to another, What is this that God hath done unto us?     ויאמר  אל־אחיו 
הושב  כספי  וגם  הנה
באמתחתי  ויצא  לבם
ויחרדו  איש
אל־אחיו  לאמר
מה־זאת  עשה  אלהים
לנו׃
    VY'aMUr 'aL-'aChYV HVShB KSPhY VGM HNH B'aMThChThY VYTSh'a LBM VYChUrDV 'aYSh 'aL-'aChYV L'aMUr MH-Z'aTh 'yShH 'aLHYM LNV.     and he saith unto his brethren, `My money hath been put back, and also, lo, in my bag:` and their heart goeth out, and they tremble, one to another saying, `What is this God hath done to us!`     dixit fratribus suis reddita est mihi pecunia en habetur in sacco et obstupefacti turbatique dixerunt mutuo quidnam est hoc quod fecit nobis Deus
 
29.    They came to Jacob their father, to the land of Canaan, and told him all that had happened to them, saying,     And they came unto Jacob their father unto the land of Canaan, and told him all that befell unto them; saying,     ויבאו  אל־יעקב 
אביהם  ארצה  כנען
ויגידו  לו  את
כל־הקרת  אתם  לאמר׃
    VYB'aV 'aL-Y'yQB 'aBYHM 'aUrTShH KN'yN VYGYDV LV 'aTh KL-HQUrTh 'aThM L'aMUr.     And they come in unto Jacob their father, to the land of Canaan, and they declare to him all the things meeting them, saying,     veneruntque ad Iacob patrem suum in terra Chanaan et narraverunt ei omnia quae accidissent sibi dicentes
 
30.    "The man, the lord of the land, spoke roughly with us, and took us for spies of the country.     The man, who is the lord of the land, spake roughly to us, and took us for spies of the country.     דבר  האיש  אדני 
הארץ  אתנו  קשות
ויתן  אתנו  כמרגלים
את־הארץ׃
    DBUr H'aYSh 'aDNY H'aUrTSh 'aThNV QShVTh VYThN 'aThNV KMUrGLYM 'aTh-H'aUrTSh.     `The man, the lord of the land, hath spoken with us sharp things, and maketh us as spies of the land;     locutus est nobis dominus terrae dure et putavit nos exploratores provinciae
 
31.    We said to him, 'We are honest men. We are no spies.     And we said unto him, We are true men; we are no spies:     ונאמר  אליו  כנים 
אנחנו  לא  היינו

    VN'aMUr 'aLYV KNYM 'aNChNV L'a HYYNV MUrGLYM.     and we say unto him, We are right men, we have not been spies,     cui respondimus pacifici sumus nec ullas molimur insidias
 
32.    We are twelve brothers, sons of our father; one is no more, and the youngest is this day with our father in the land of Canaan.'     We be twelve brethren, sons of our father; one is not, and the youngest is this day with our father in the land of Canaan.     שנים־עשר  אנחנו 
אחים  בני  אבינו
האחד  איננו  והקטן
היום  את־אבינו
בארץ  כנען׃
    ShNYM-'yShUr 'aNChNV 'aChYM BNY 'aBYNV H'aChD 'aYNNV VHQTN HYVM 'aTh-'aBYNV B'aUrTSh KN'yN.     we are twelve brethren, sons of our father, the one is not, and the young one is to-day with our father in the land of Canaan.     duodecim fratres uno patre geniti sumus unus non est super minimus cum patre versatur in terra Chanaan
 
33.    The man, the lord of the land, said to us, 'By this I will know that you are honest men: leave one of your brothers with me, and take grain for the famine of your houses, and go your way.     And the man, the lord of the country, said unto us, Hereby shall I know that ye are true men; leave one of your brethren here with me, and take food for the famine of your households, and be gone:     ויאמר  אלינו  האיש 
אדני  הארץ  בזאת
אדע  כי  כנים  אתם
אחיכם  האחד  הניחו
אתי  ואת־רעבון
בתיכם  קחו  ולכו׃

35.    It happened as they emptied their sacks, that behold, every man's bundle of money was in his sack.     VYHY HM MUrYQYM ShQYHM VHNH-'aYSh TShUrVUr-KSPhV BShQV VYUr'aV 'aTh-TShUrUrVTh KSPhYHM HMH V'aBYHM VYYUr'aV.     And it cometh to pass, they are emptying their sacks, and lo, the bundle of each man`s silver is in his sack, and they see their bundles of silver, they and their father, and are afraid;     his dictis cum frumenta effunderent singuli reppererunt in ore saccorum ligatas pecunias exterritisque simul omnibus
 
36.    Jacob, their father, said to them, "You have bereaved me of my children! Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more, and you want to take Benjamin away. All these things are against me."     And Jacob their father said unto them, Me have ye bereaved of my children: Joseph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Benjamin away: all these things are against me.     ויאמר  אלהם  יעקב 
אביהם  אתי  שכלתם
יוסף  איננו  ושמעון

תקחו  עלי  היו

37.    Reuben spoke to his father, saying, "Kill my two sons, if I don't bring him to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring him to you again."     And Reuben spake unto his father, saying, Slay my two sons, if I bring him not to thee: deliver him into my hand, and I will bring him to thee again.     ויאמר  ראובן 
אל־אביו  לאמר
את־שני  בני  תמית
אם־לא  אביאנו  אליך
תנה  אתו  על־ידי
ואני  אשיבנו  אליך׃

38.    He said, "My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he only is left. If harm happens to him along the way in which you go, then you will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol{Sheol is the place of the dead.}."     And he said, My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he is left alone: if mischief befall him by the way in the which ye go, then shall ye bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.     ויאמר  לא־ירד  בני 
עמכם  כי־אחיו  מת
והוא  לבדו  נשאר
וקראהו  אסון  בדרך
אשר  תלכו־בה
והורדתם  את־שיבתי
