1.    It happened after these things, that someone said to Joseph, "Behold, your father is sick." He took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.     And it came to pass after these things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.     ויהי  אחרי  הדברים 
האלה  ויאמר  ליוסף
הנה  אביך  חלה  ויקח
את־שני  בניו  עמו

ואת־אפרים׃
    VYHY 'aChUrY HDBUrYM H'aLH VY'aMUr LYVSPh HNH 'aBYK ChLH VYQCh 'aTh-ShNY BNYV 'yMV 'aTh-MNShH V'aTh-'aPhUrYM.     And it cometh to pass, after these things, that one saith to Joseph, `Lo, thy father is sick;` and he taketh his two sons with him, Manasseh and Ephraim.     his ita transactis nuntiatum est Ioseph quod aegrotaret pater eius qui adsumptis duobus filiis Manasse et Ephraim ire perrexit
 
2.    Someone told Jacob, and said, "Behold, your son Joseph comes to you," and Israel strengthened himself, and sat on the bed.     And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed.     ויגד  ליעקב  ויאמר 
הנה  בנך  יוסף  בא
אליך  ויתחזק  ישראל
וישב  על־  המטה׃
    VYGD LY'yQB VY'aMUr HNH BNK YVSPh B'a 'aLYK VYThChZQ YShUr'aL VYShB 'yL- HMTH.     And one declareth to Jacob, and saith, `Lo, thy son Joseph is coming unto thee;` and Israel doth strengthen himself, and sit upon the bed.     dictumque est seni ecce filius tuus Ioseph venit ad te qui confortatus sedit in lectulo
 
3.    Jacob said to Joseph, "God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,     And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,     ויאמר  יעקב 
אל־יוסף  אל  שדי
נראה־אלי  בלוז
בארץ  כנען  ויברך
אתי׃
    VY'aMUr Y'yQB 'aL-YVSPh 'aL ShDY NUr'aH-'aLY BLVZ B'aUrTSh KN'yN VYBUrK 'aThY.     And Jacob saith unto Joseph, `God Almighty hath appeared unto me, in Luz, in the land of Canaan, and blesseth me,     et ingresso ad se ait Deus omnipotens apparuit mihi in Luza quae est in terra Chanaan benedixitque mihi
 
4.    and said to me, 'Behold, I will make you fruitful, and multiply you, and I will make of you a company of peoples, and will give this land to your seed after you for an everlasting possession.'     And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession.     ויאמר  אלי  הנני 
מפרך  והרביתך
ונתתיך  לקהל  עמים
ונתתי  את־הארץ
הזאת  לזרעך  אחריך
אחזת  עולם׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLY HNNY MPhUrK VHUrBYThK VNThThYK LQHL 'yMYM VNThThY 'aTh-H'aUrTSh HZ'aTh LZUr'yK 'aChUrYK 'aChZTh 'yVLM.     and saith unto me, Lo, I am making thee fruitful, and have multiplied thee, and given thee for an assembly of peoples, and given this land to thy seed after thee, a possession age-during.     et ait ego te augebo et multiplicabo et faciam in turbas populorum daboque tibi terram hanc et semini tuo post te in possessionem sempiternam
 
5.    Now your two sons, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you into Egypt, are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh, even as Reuben and Simeon, will be mine.     And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.     ועתה  שני־בניך 
הנולדים  לך  בארץ
מצרים  עד־באי  אליך
מצרימה  לי־הם
אפרים  ומנשה
כראובן  ושמעון
יהיו־לי׃
    V'yThH ShNY-BNYK HNVLDYM LK B'aUrTSh MTShUrYM 'yD-B'aY 'aLYK MTShUrYMH LY-HM 'aPhUrYM VMNShH KUr'aVBN VShM'yVN YHYV-LY.     `And now, thy two sons, who are born to thee in the land of Egypt, before my coming unto thee to Egypt, mine they are; Ephraim and Manasseh, as Reuben and Simeon they are mine;     duo igitur filii tui qui nati sunt tibi in terra Aegypti antequam huc venirem ad te mei erunt Ephraim et Manasses sicut Ruben et Symeon reputabuntur mihi
 
6.    Your issue, who you become the father of after them, will be yours. They will be called after the name of their brothers in their inheritance.     And thy issue, which thou begettest after them, shall be thine, and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance.     ומולדתך  אשר־הולדת 
אחריהם  לך  יהיו  על
שם  אחיהם  יקראו
בנחלתם׃
    VMVLDThK 'aShUr-HVLDTh 'aChUrYHM LK YHYV 'yL ShM 'aChYHM YQUr'aV BNChLThM.     and thy family which thou hast begotten after them are thine; by the name of their brethren they are called in their inheritance.     reliquos autem quos genueris post eos tui erunt et nomine fratrum suorum vocabuntur in possessionibus suis
 
7.    As for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when there was still some distance to come to Ephrath, and I buried her there in the way to Ephrath (the same is Bethlehem)."     And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same is Bethlehem.     ואני  בבאי  מפדן 
מתה  עלי  רחל  בארץ
כנען  בדרך  בעוד
כברת־ארץ  לבא
אפרתה  ואקברה  שם
בדרך  אפרת  הוא  בית
לחם׃
    V'aNY BB'aY MPhDN MThH 'yLY UrChL B'aUrTSh KN'yN BDUrK B'yVD KBUrTh-'aUrTSh LB'a 'aPhUrThH V'aQBUrH ShM BDUrK 'aPhUrTh HV'a BYTh LChM.     `And I -- in my coming in from Padan-Aram Rachel hath died by me in the land of Canaan, in the way, while yet a kibrath of land to enter Ephrata, and I bury her there in the way of Ephrata, which is Bethlehem.`     mihi enim quando veniebam de Mesopotamiam mortua est Rahel in terra Chanaan in ipso itinere eratque vernum tempus et ingrediebar Ephratam et sepelivi eam iuxta viam Ephratae quae alio nomine appellatur Bethleem
 
8.    Israel saw Joseph's sons, and said, "Who are these?"     And Israel beheld Joseph's sons, and said, Who are these?     וירא  ישראל  את־בני 
יוסף  ויאמר

    VYUr'a YShUr'aL 'aTh-BNY YVSPh VY'aMUr MY-'aLH.     And Israel seeth the sons of Joseph, and saith, `Who are these?`     videns autem filios eius dixit ad eum qui sunt isti
 
9.    Joseph said to his father, "They are my sons, whom God has given me here." He said, "Please bring them to me, and I will bless them."     And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them.     ויאמר  יוסף 
אל־אביו  בני  הם
אשר־נתן־לי  אלהים
בזה  ויאמר  קחם־נא
אלי  ואברכם׃
    VY'aMUr YVSPh 'aL-'aBYV BNY HM 'aShUr-NThN-LY 'aLHYM BZH VY'aMUr QChM-N'a 'aLY V'aBUrKM.     and Joseph saith unto his father, `They are my sons, whom God hath given to me in this place;` and he saith, `Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I bless them.`     respondit filii mei sunt quos dedit mihi Deus in hoc loco adduc inquit eos ad me ut benedicam illis
 
10.    Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he couldn't see. He brought them near to him; and he kissed them, and embraced them.     Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them.     ועיני  ישראל  כבדו 
מזקן  לא  יוכל
לראות  ויגש  אתם
אליו  וישק  להם
ויחבק  להם׃
    V'yYNY YShUr'aL KBDV MZQN L'a YVKL LUr'aVTh VYGSh 'aThM 'aLYV VYShQ LHM VYChBQ LHM.     And the eyes of Israel have been heavy from age, he is unable to see; and he bringeth them nigh unto him, and he kisseth them, and cleaveth to them;     oculi enim Israhel caligabant prae nimia senectute et clare videre non poterat adplicitosque ad se deosculatus et circumplexus
 
11.    Israel said to Joseph, "I didn't think I would see your face, and behold, God has let me see your seed also."     And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.     ויאמר  ישראל 
אל־יוסף  ראה  פניך
לא  פללתי  והנה
הראה  אתי  אלהים  גם
את־זרעך׃
    VY'aMUr YShUr'aL 'aL-YVSPh Ur'aH PhNYK L'a PhLLThY VHNH HUr'aH 'aThY 'aLHYM GM 'aTh-ZUr'yK.     and Israel saith unto Joseph, `To see thy face I had not thought, and lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.`     dixit ad filium non sum fraudatus aspectu tuo insuper ostendit mihi Deus semen tuum
 
12.    Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth.     And Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth.     ויוצא  יוסף  אתם 
מעם  ברכיו  וישתחו
לאפיו  ארצה׃
    VYVTSh'a YVSPh 'aThM M'yM BUrKYV VYShThChV L'aPhYV 'aUrTShH.     And Joseph bringeth them out from between his knees, and boweth himself on his face to the earth;     cumque tulisset eos Ioseph de gremio patris adoravit pronus in terram
 
13.    Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought them near to him.     And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought them near unto him.     ויקח  יוסף 
את־שניהם  את־אפרים
בימינו  משמאל
ישראל  ואת־מנשה
בשמאלו  מימין
ישראל  ויגש  אליו׃
    VYQCh YVSPh 'aTh-ShNYHM 'aTh-'aPhUrYM BYMYNV MShM'aL YShUr'aL V'aTh-MNShH BShM'aLV MYMYN YShUr'aL VYGSh 'aLYV.     and Joseph taketh them both, Ephraim in his right hand towards Israel`s left, and Manasseh in his left towards Israel`s right, and bringeth them nigh to him.     et posuit Ephraim ad dexteram suam id est ad sinistram Israhel Manassen vero in sinistra sua ad dexteram scilicet patris adplicuitque ambos ad eum
 
14.    Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it on Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh's head, guiding his hands knowingly, for Manasseh was the firstborn.     And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn.     וישלח  ישראל 
את־ימינו  וישת
על־ראש  אפרים  והוא
הצעיר  ואת־שמאלו
על־ראש  מנשה  שכל
את־ידיו  כי  מנשה
הבכור׃
    VYShLCh YShUr'aL 'aTh-YMYNV VYShTh 'yL-Ur'aSh 'aPhUrYM VHV'a HTSh'yYUr V'aTh-ShM'aLV 'yL-Ur'aSh MNShH ShKL 'aTh-YDYV KY MNShH HBKVUr.     And Israel putteth out his right hand, and placeth it upon the head of Ephraim, who is the younger, and his left hand upon the head of Manasseh; he hath guided his hands wisely, for Manasseh is the first-born.     qui extendens manum dextram posuit super caput Ephraim iunioris fratris sinistram autem super caput Manasse qui maior natu erat commutans manus
 
15.    He blessed Joseph, and said, "The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God who has fed me all my life long to this day,     And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day,     ויברך  את־יוסף 
ויאמר  האלהים  אשר
התהלכו  אבתי  לפניו
אברהם  ויצחק
האלהים  הרעה  אתי
מעודי  עד־היום
הזה׃
    VYBUrK 'aTh-YVSPh VY'aMUr H'aLHYM 'aShUr HThHLKV 'aBThY LPhNYV 'aBUrHM VYTShChQ H'aLHYM HUr'yH 'aThY M'yVDY 'yD-HYVM HZH.     And he blesseth Joseph, and saith, `God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked habitually: God who is feeding me from my being unto this day:     benedixitque Ioseph filio suo et ait Deus in cuius conspectu ambulaverunt patres mei Abraham et Isaac Deus qui pascit me ab adulescentia mea usque in praesentem diem
 
16.    the angel who has redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads, and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac. Let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth."     The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.     המלאך  הגאל  אתי 
מכל־רע  יברך
את־הנערים  ויקרא
בהם  שמי  ושם  אבתי
אברהם  ויצחק  וידגו
לרב  בקרב  הארץ׃
    HML'aK HG'aL 'aThY MKL-Ur'y YBUrK 'aTh-HN'yUrYM VYQUr'a BHM ShMY VShM 'aBThY 'aBUrHM VYTShChQ VYDGV LUrB BQUrB H'aUrTSh.     the Messenger who is redeeming me from all evil doth bless the youths, and my name is called upon them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and they increase into a multitude in the midst of the land.`     angelus qui eruit me de cunctis malis benedicat pueris et invocetur super eos nomen meum nomina quoque patrum meorum Abraham et Isaac et crescant in multitudinem super terram
 
17.    When Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it displeased him. He held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head to Manasseh's head.     And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head.     וירא  יוסף  כי־ישית 
אביו  יד־ימינו
על־ראש  אפרים  וירע
בעיניו  ויתמך
יד־אביו  להסיר  אתה
מעל  ראש־אפרים
על־ראש  מנשה׃
    VYUr'a YVSPh KY-YShYTh 'aBYV YD-YMYNV 'yL-Ur'aSh 'aPhUrYM VYUr'y B'yYNYV VYThMK YD-'aBYV LHSYUr 'aThH M'yL Ur'aSh-'aPhUrYM 'yL-Ur'aSh MNShH.     And Joseph seeth that his father setteth his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and it is wrong in his eyes, and he supporteth the hand of his father to turn it aside from off the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh;     videns autem Ioseph quod posuisset pater suus dexteram manum super caput Ephraim graviter accepit et adprehensam patris manum levare conatus est de capite Ephraim et transferre super caput Manasse
 
18.    Joseph said to his father, "Not so, my father; for this is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head."     And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.     ויאמר  יוסף 
אל־אביו  לא־כן  אבי
כי־זה  הבכר  שים
ימינך  על־ראשו׃
    VY'aMUr YVSPh 'aL-'aBYV L'a-KN 'aBY KY-ZH HBKUr ShYM YMYNK 'yL-Ur'aShV.     and Joseph saith unto his father, `Not so, my father, for this is the first-born; set thy right hand on his head.`     dixitque ad patrem non ita convenit pater quia hic est primogenitus pone dexteram tuam super caput eius
 
19.    His father refused, and said, "I know, my son, I know. He also will become a people, and he also will be great. However, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his seed will become a multitude of nations."     And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.     וימאן  אביו  ויאמר 
ידעתי  בני  ידעתי
גם־הוא  יהיה־לעם
וגם־הוא  יגדל
ואולם  אחיו  הקטן
יגדל  ממנו  וזרעו
יהיה  מלא־הגוים׃
    VYM'aN 'aBYV VY'aMUr YD'yThY BNY YD'yThY GM-HV'a YHYH-L'yM VGM-HV'a YGDL V'aVLM 'aChYV HQTN YGDL MMNV VZUr'yV YHYH ML'a-HGVYM.     And his father refuseth, and saith, `I have known, my son, I have known; he also becometh a people, and he also is great, and yet, his young brother is greater than he, and his seed is the fulness of the nations;`     qui rennuens ait scio fili mi scio et iste quidem erit in populos et multiplicabitur sed frater eius iunior maior illo erit et semen illius crescet in gentes
 
20.    He blessed them that day, saying, "In you will Israel bless, saying, 'God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh'" He set Ephraim before Manasseh.     And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh.     ויברכם  ביום  ההוא 
לאמור  בך  יברך
ישראל  לאמר  ישמך
אלהים  כאפרים
וכמנשה  וישם
את־אפרים  לפני
מנשה׃
    VYBUrKM BYVM HHV'a L'aMVUr BK YBUrK YShUr'aL L'aMUr YShMK 'aLHYM K'aPhUrYM VKMNShH VYShM 'aTh-'aPhUrYM LPhNY MNShH.     and he blesseth them in that day, saying, `By thee doth Israel bless, saying, God set thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh;` and he setteth Ephraim before Manasseh.     benedixitque eis in ipso tempore dicens in te benedicetur Israhel atque dicetur faciat tibi Deus sicut Ephraim et sicut Manasse constituitque Ephraim ante Manassen
 
21.    Israel said to Joseph, "Behold, I am dying, but God will be with you, and bring you again to the land of your fathers.     And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.     ויאמר  ישראל 
אל־יוסף  הנה  אנכי
מת  והיה  אלהים
עמכם  והשיב  אתכם
אל־ארץ  אבתיכם׃
    VY'aMUr YShUr'aL 'aL-YVSPh HNH 'aNKY MTh VHYH 'aLHYM 'yMKM VHShYB 'aThKM 'aL-'aUrTSh 'aBThYKM.     And Israel saith unto Joseph, `Lo, I am dying, and God hath been with you, and hath brought you back unto the land of your fathers;     et ait ad Ioseph filium suum en ego morior et erit Deus vobiscum reducetque vos ad terram patrum vestrorum
 
22.    Moreover I have given to you one portion above your brothers, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow."     Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.     ואני  נתתי  לך  שכם 
אחד  על־אחיך  אשר
לקחתי  מיד  האמרי
בחרבי  ובקשתי׃
    V'aNY NThThY LK ShKM 'aChD 'yL-'aChYK 'aShUr LQChThY MYD H'aMUrY BChUrBY VBQShThY.     and I -- I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I have taken out of the hand of the Amorite by my sword and by my bow.`     do tibi partem unam extra fratres tuos quam tuli de manu Amorrei in gladio et arcu meo
