1.    At that time, Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the grain fields. His disciples were hungry and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat.     At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.     εν εκεινω τω καιρω επορευθη ο ιησους τοις σαββασιν δια των σποριμων οι δε μαθηται αυτου επεινασαν και ηρξαντο τιλλειν σταχυας και εσθιειν     At that time did Jesus go on the sabbaths through the corn, and his disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck ears, and to eat,     in illo tempore abiit Iesus sabbato per sata discipuli autem eius esurientes coeperunt vellere spicas et manducare

2.    But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said to him, "Behold, your disciples do what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath."     But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.     οι δε φαρισαιοι ιδοντες ειπαν αυτω ιδου οι μαθηται σου ποιουσιν ο ουκ εξεστιν ποιειν εν σαββατω     and the Pharisees having seen, said to him, `Lo, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do on a sabbath.`     Pharisaei autem videntes dixerunt ei ecce discipuli tui faciunt quod non licet eis facere sabbatis

3.    But he said to them, "Haven't you read what David did, when he was hungry, and those who were with him;     But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;     ο δε ειπεν αυτοις ουκ ανεγνωτε τι εποιησεν δαυιδ οτε επεινασεν και οι μετ αυτου     And he said to them, `Did ye not read what David did, when he was hungry, himself and those with him --     at ille dixit eis non legistis quid fecerit David quando esuriit et qui cum eo erant

4.    how he entered into the house of God, and ate the show bread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for those who were with him, but only for the priests?{1 Samuel 21:3-6}     How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?     πως εισηλθεν εις τον οικον του θεου και τους αρτους της προθεσεως εφαγον ο ουκ εξον ην αυτω φαγειν ουδε τοις μετ αυτου ει μη τοις ιερευσιν μονοις     how he went into the house of God, and the loaves of the presentation did eat, which it is not lawful to him to eat, nor to those with him, except to the priests alone?     quomodo intravit in domum Dei et panes propositionis comedit quos non licebat ei edere neque his qui cum eo erant nisi solis sacerdotibus

5.    Or have you not read in the law, that on the Sabbath day, the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are guiltless?     Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?     η ουκ ανεγνωτε εν τω νομω οτι τοις σαββασιν οι ιερεις εν τω ιερω το σαββατον βεβηλουσιν και αναιτιοι εισιν     `Or did ye not read in the Law, that on the sabbaths the priests in the temple do profane the sabbath, and are blameless?     aut non legistis in lege quia sabbatis sacerdotes in templo sabbatum violant et sine crimine sunt

6.    But I tell you that one greater than the temple is here.     But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.     λεγω δε υμιν οτι του ιερου μειζον εστιν ωδε     and I say to you, that a greater than the temple is here;     dico autem vobis quia templo maior est hic

7.    But if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,'{Hosea 6:6} you would not have condemned the guiltless.     But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.     ει δε εγνωκειτε τι εστιν ελεοσ θελω και ου θυσιαν ουκ αν κατεδικασατε τους αναιτιους     and if ye had known what is: Kindness I will, and not sacrifice -- ye had not condemned the blameless,     si autem sciretis quid est misericordiam volo et non sacrificium numquam condemnassetis innocentes

8.    For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."     For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.     κυριος γαρ εστιν του σαββατου ο υιος του ανθρωπου     for the son of man is lord even of the sabbath.`     dominus est enim Filius hominis etiam sabbati

9.    He departed there, and went into their synagogue.     And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:     και μεταβας εκειθεν ηλθεν εις την συναγωγην αυτων     And having departed thence, he went to their synagogue,     et cum inde transisset venit in synagogam eorum

10.    And behold there was a man with a withered hand. They asked him, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day?" that they might accuse him.     And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.     και ιδου ανθρωπος  χειρα εχων ξηραν και επηρωτησαν αυτον λεγοντες ει εξεστιν τοις σαββασιν θεραπευσαι ινα κατηγορησωσιν αυτου     and lo, there was a man having the hand withered, and they questioned him, saying, `Is it lawful to heal on the sabbaths?` that they might accuse him.     et ecce homo manum habens aridam et interrogabant eum dicentes si licet sabbatis curare ut accusarent eum

11.    He said to them, "What man is there among you, who has one sheep, and if this one falls into a pit on the Sabbath day, won't he grab on to it, and lift it out?     And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?     ο δε ειπεν αυτοις τις εσται εξ υμων ανθρωπος ος εξει προβατον εν και εαν εμπεση τουτο τοις σαββασιν εις βοθυνον ουχι κρατησει αυτο και εγερει     And he said to them, `What man shall be of you, who shall have one sheep, and if this may fall on the sabbaths into a ditch, will not lay hold on it and raise it?     ipse autem dixit illis quis erit ex vobis homo qui habeat ovem unam et si ceciderit haec sabbatis in foveam nonne tenebit et levabit eam

12.    Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath day."     How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.     ποσω ουν διαφερει ανθρωπος προβατου ωστε εξεστιν τοις σαββασιν καλως ποιειν     How much better, therefore, is a man than a sheep? -- so that it is lawful on the sabbaths to do good.`     quanto magis melior est homo ove itaque licet sabbatis benefacere

13.    Then he told the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out; and it was restored whole, just like the other.     Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.     τοτε λεγει τω ανθρωπω εκτεινον  σου την χειρα και εξετεινεν και απεκατεσταθη υγιης ως η αλλη     Then saith he to the man, `Stretch forth thy hand,` and he stretched it forth, and it was restored whole as the other.     tunc ait homini extende manum tuam et extendit et restituta est sanitati sicut altera

14.    But the Pharisees went out, and conspired against him, how they might destroy him.     Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.     εξελθοντεσ δε οι φαρισαιοι συμβουλιον ελαβον κατ αυτου οπως αυτον απολεσωσιν     And the Pharisees having gone forth, held a consultation against him, how they might destroy him,     exeuntes autem Pharisaei consilium faciebant adversus eum quomodo eum perderent

15.    Jesus, perceiving that, withdrew from there. Great multitudes followed him; and he healed them all,     But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;     ο δε ιησους γνους ανεχωρησεν εκειθεν και ηκολουθησαν αυτω [οχλοι] πολλοι και εθεραπευσεν αυτους παντας     and Jesus having known, withdrew thence, and there followed him great multitudes, and he healed them all,     Iesus autem sciens recessit inde et secuti sunt eum multi et curavit eos omnes

16.    and commanded them that they should not make him known:     And charged them that they should not make him known:     και επετιμησεν αυτοις ινα μη φανερον αυτον ποιησωσιν     and did charge them that they might not make him manifest,     et praecepit eis ne manifestum eum facerent

17.    that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,     That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,     ινα πληρωθη το ρηθεν δια ησαιου του προφητου λεγοντος     that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,     ut adimpleretur quod dictum est per Esaiam prophetam dicentem

18.    "Behold, my servant whom I have chosen; my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my Spirit on him. He will proclaim justice to the nations.     Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.     ιδου ο παις μου ον ηρετισα ο αγαπητος μου εις ον ευδοκησεν η ψυχη μου θησω το πνευμα μου επ αυτον και κρισιν τοις εθνεσιν απαγγελει     `Lo, My servant, whom I did choose, My beloved, in whom My soul did delight, I will put My Spirit upon him, and judgment to the nations he shall declare,     ecce puer meus quem elegi dilectus meus in quo bene placuit animae meae ponam spiritum meum super eum et iudicium gentibus nuntiabit

19.    He will not strive, nor shout; neither will anyone hear his voice in the streets.     He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.     ουκ ερισει ουδε κραυγασει ουδε ακουσει τις εν ταις πλατειαις την φωνην αυτου     he shall not strive nor cry, nor shall any hear in the broad places his voice,     non contendet neque clamabit neque audiet aliquis in plateis vocem eius

20.    He won't break a bruised reed. He won't quench a smoking flax, until he leads justice to victory.     A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.     καλαμον συντετριμμενον ου κατεαξει και λινον τυφομενον ου σβεσει εως αν εκβαλη εις νικος την κρισιν     a bruised reed he shall not break, and smoking flax he shall not quench, till he may put forth judgment to victory,     harundinem quassatam non confringet et linum fumigans non extinguet donec eiciat ad victoriam iudicium

21.    In his name, the nations will hope."{Isaiah 42:1-4}     And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.     και τω ονοματι αυτου εθνη ελπιουσιν     and in his name shall nations hope.`     et in nomine eius gentes sperabunt

22.    Then one possessed by a demon, blind and mute, was brought to him and he healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw.     Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.     τοτε προσηνεχθη αυτω δαιμονιζομενος τυφλος και κωφος και εθεραπευσεν αυτον ωστε τον  κωφον λαλειν και βλεπειν     Then was brought to him a demoniac, blind and dumb, and he healed him, so that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.     tunc oblatus est ei daemonium habens caecus et mutus et curavit eum ita ut loqueretur et videret

23.    All the multitudes were amazed, and said, "Can this be the son of David?"     And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?     και εξισταντο παντες οι οχλοι και ελεγον μητι ουτος εστιν ο υιος δαυιδ     And all the multitudes were amazed, and said, `Is this the Son of David?`     et stupebant omnes turbae et dicebant numquid hic est Filius David

24.    But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, "This man does not cast out demons, except by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons."     But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.     οι δε φαρισαιοι ακουσαντες ειπον ουτος ουκ εκβαλλει τα δαιμονια ει μη εν τω βεελζεβουλ αρχοντι των δαιμονιων     but the Pharisees having heard, said, `This one doth not cast out demons, except by Beelzeboul, ruler of the demons.`     Pharisaei autem audientes dixerunt hic non eicit daemones nisi in Beelzebub principe daemoniorum

25.    Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.     And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:     ειδως δε  τας ενθυμησεις αυτων ειπεν αυτοις πασα βασιλεια μερισθεισα καθ εαυτης ερημουται και πασα πολις η οικια μερισθεισα καθ εαυτης ου σταθησεται     And Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said to them, `Every kingdom having been divided against itself is desolated, and no city or house having been divided against itself, doth stand,     Iesus autem sciens cogitationes eorum dixit eis omne regnum divisum contra se desolatur et omnis civitas vel domus divisa contra se non stabit

26.    If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?     And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?     και ει ο σατανας τον σαταναν εκβαλλει εφ εαυτον εμερισθη πως ουν σταθησεται η βασιλεια αυτου     and if the Adversary doth cast out the Adversary, against himself he was divided, how then doth his kingdom stand?     et si Satanas Satanan eicit adversus se divisus est quomodo ergo stabit regnum eius

27.    If I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.     And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.     και ει εγω εν βεελζεβουλ εκβαλλω τα δαιμονια οι υιοι υμων εν τινι εκβαλλουσιν δια τουτο αυτοι  κριται εσονται υμων     `And if I, by Beelzeboul, do cast out the demons, your sons -- by whom do they cast out? because of this they -- they shall be your judges.     et si ego in Beelzebub eicio daemones filii vestri in quo eiciunt ideo ipsi iudices erunt vestri

28.    But if I by the Spirit of God cast out demons, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you.     But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.     ει δε εν πνευματι θεου εγω εκβαλλω τα δαιμονια αρα εφθασεν εφ υμας η βασιλεια του θεου     `But if I, by the Spirit of God, do cast out the demons, then come already unto you did the reign of God.     si autem ego in Spiritu Dei eicio daemones igitur pervenit in vos regnum Dei

29.    Or how can one enter into the house of the strong man, and plunder his goods, unless he first bind the strong man? Then he will plunder his house.     Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.     η πως δυναται τις εισελθειν εις την οικιαν του ισχυρου και τα σκευη αυτου αρπασαι εαν μη πρωτον δηση τον ισχυρον και τοτε την οικιαν αυτου διαρπασει     `Or how is one able to go into the house of the strong man, and to plunder his goods, if first he may not bind the strong man? and then his house he will plunder.     aut quomodo potest quisquam intrare in domum fortis et vasa eius diripere nisi prius alligaverit fortem et tunc domum illius diripiat

30.    "He who is not with me is against me, and he who doesn't gather with me, scatters.     He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.     ο μη ων μετ εμου κατ εμου εστιν και ο μη συναγων μετ εμου σκορπιζει     `He who is not with me is against me, and he who is not gathering with me, doth scatter.     qui non est mecum contra me est et qui non congregat mecum spargit

31.    Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.     Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.     δια τουτο λεγω υμιν πασα αμαρτια και βλασφημια αφεθησεται τοις ανθρωποις η δε του πνευματος βλασφημια ουκ αφεθησεται     Because of this I say to you, all sin and evil speaking shall be forgiven to men, but the evil speaking of the Spirit shall not be forgiven to men.     ideo dico vobis omne peccatum et blasphemia remittetur hominibus Spiritus autem blasphemia non remittetur

32.    Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, neither in this age, nor in that which is to come.     And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.     και ος εαν ειπη λογον κατα του υιου του ανθρωπου αφεθησεται αυτω ος δ αν ειπη κατα του πνευματος του αγιου ουκ αφεθησεται αυτω ουτε εν τουτω τω αιωνι ουτε εν τω μελλοντι     And whoever may speak a word against the Son of Man it shall be forgiven to him, but whoever may speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this age, nor in that which is coming.     et quicumque dixerit verbum contra Filium hominis remittetur ei qui autem dixerit contra Spiritum Sanctum non remittetur ei neque in hoc saeculo neque in futuro

33.    "Either make the tree good, and its fruit good, or make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by its fruit.     Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.     η ποιησατε το δενδρον καλον και τον καρπον αυτου καλον η ποιησατε το δενδρον σαπρον και τον καρπον αυτου σαπρον εκ γαρ του καρπου το δενδρον γινωσκεται     `Either make the tree good, and its fruit good, or make the tree bad, and its fruit bad, for from the fruit is the tree known.     aut facite arborem bonam et fructum eius bonum aut facite arborem malam et fructum eius malum siquidem ex fructu arbor agnoscitur

34.    You offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.     O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.     γεννηματα εχιδνων πως δυνασθε αγαθα λαλειν πονηροι οντες εκ γαρ του περισσευματος της καρδιας το στομα λαλει     `Brood of vipers! how are ye able to speak good things -- being evil? for out of the abundance of the heart doth the mouth speak.     progenies viperarum quomodo potestis bona loqui cum sitis mali ex abundantia enim cordis os loquitur

35.    The good man out of his good treasure brings out good things, and the evil man out of his evil treasure{TR adds "of the heart"} brings out evil things.     A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.     ο αγαθος ανθρωπος εκ του αγαθου θησαυρου  εκβαλλει αγαθα και ο πονηρος ανθρωπος εκ του πονηρου θησαυρου εκβαλλει πονηρα     The good man out of the good treasure of the heart doth put forth the good things, and the evil man out of the evil treasure doth put forth evil things.     bonus homo de bono thesauro profert bona et malus homo de malo thesauro profert mala

36.    I tell you that every idle word that men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.     But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.     λεγω δε υμιν οτι παν ρημα αργον ο λαλησουσιν  οι ανθρωποι αποδωσουσιν περι αυτου λογον εν ημερα κρισεως     `And I say to you, that every idle word that men may speak, they shall give for it a reckoning in a day of judgment;     dico autem vobis quoniam omne verbum otiosum quod locuti fuerint homines reddent rationem de eo in die iudicii

37.    For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."     For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.     εκ γαρ των λογων σου δικαιωθηση και εκ των λογων σου καταδικασθηση     for from thy words thou shalt be declared righteous, and from thy words thou shalt be declared unrighteous.`     ex verbis enim tuis iustificaberis et ex verbis tuis condemnaberis

38.    Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees answered, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from you."     Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.     τοτε απεκριθησαν αυτω τινες των γραμματεων και φαρισαιων λεγοντες διδασκαλε θελομεν απο σου σημειον ιδειν     Then answered certain of the scribes and Pharisees, saying, `Teacher, we will to see a sign from thee.`     tunc responderunt ei quidam de scribis et Pharisaeis dicentes magister volumus a te signum videre

39.    But he answered them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, but no sign will be given it but the sign of Jonah the prophet.     But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:     ο δε αποκριθεις ειπεν αυτοις γενεα πονηρα και μοιχαλις σημειον επιζητει και σημειον ου δοθησεται αυτη ει μη το σημειον ιωνα του προφητου     And he answering said to them, `A generation, evil and adulterous, doth seek a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet;     qui respondens ait illis generatio mala et adultera signum quaerit et signum non dabitur ei nisi signum Ionae prophetae

40.    For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.     For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.     ωσπερ γαρ ην ιωνας εν τη κοιλια του κητους τρεις ημερας και τρεις νυκτας ουτως εσται ο υιος του ανθρωπου εν τη καρδια της γης τρεις ημερας και τρεις νυκτας     for, as Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights, so shall the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.     sicut enim fuit Ionas in ventre ceti tribus diebus et tribus noctibus sic erit Filius hominis in corde terrae tribus diebus et tribus noctibus

41.    The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, someone greater than Jonah is here.     The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.     ανδρες νινευιται αναστησονται εν τη κρισει μετα της γενεας ταυτης και κατακρινουσιν αυτην οτι μετενοησαν εις το κηρυγμα ιωνα και ιδου πλειον ιωνα ωδε     `Men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, for they reformed at the proclamation of Jonah, and lo, a greater than Jonah here!     viri ninevitae surgent in iudicio cum generatione ista et condemnabunt eam quia paenitentiam egerunt in praedicatione Ionae et ecce plus quam Iona hic

42.    The queen of the south will rise up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, someone greater than Solomon is here.     The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.     βασιλισσα νοτου εγερθησεται εν τη κρισει μετα της γενεας ταυτης και κατακρινει αυτην οτι ηλθεν εκ των περατων της γης ακουσαι την σοφιαν σολομωνοσ και ιδου πλειον σολομωνοσ ωδε     `A queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and lo, a greater than Solomon here!     regina austri surget in iudicio cum generatione ista et condemnabit eam quia venit a finibus terrae audire sapientiam Salomonis et ecce plus quam Salomon hic

43.    But the unclean spirit, when he is gone out of the man, passes through waterless places, seeking rest, and doesn't find it.     When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.     οταν δε το ακαθαρτον πνευμα εξελθη απο του ανθρωπου διερχεται δι ανυδρων τοπων ζητουν αναπαυσιν και ουχ ευρισκει     `And, when the unclean spirit may go forth from the man, it doth walk through dry places seeking rest, and doth not find;     cum autem inmundus spiritus exierit ab homine ambulat per loca arida quaerens requiem et non invenit

44.    Then he says, 'I will return into my house from which I came out,' and when he has come back, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order.     Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.     τοτε λεγει εις τον οικον μου επιστρεψω οθεν εξηλθον και ελθον ευρισκει σχολαζοντα σεσαρωμενον και κεκοσμημενον     then it saith, I will turn back to my house whence I came forth; and having come, it findeth it unoccupied, swept, and adorned:     tunc dicit revertar in domum meam unde exivi et veniens invenit vacantem scopis mundatam et ornatam

45.    Then he goes, and takes with himself seven other spirits more evil than he is, and they enter in and dwell there. The last state of that man becomes worse than the first.
