2.    "Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don't wash their hands when they eat bread."     Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.     δια τι οι μαθηται σου παραβαινουσιν την παραδοσιν των πρεσβυτερων ου γαρ νιπτονται τας χειρας [αυτων] οταν αρτον εσθιωσιν     `Wherefore do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they do not wash their hands when they may eat bread.`     quare discipuli tui transgrediuntur traditionem seniorum non enim lavant manus suas cum panem manducant

3.    He answered them, "Why do you also disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition?     But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?     ο δε αποκριθεις ειπεν αυτοις δια τι και υμεις παραβαινετε την εντολην του θεου δια την παραδοσιν υμων     And he answering said to them, `Wherefore also do ye transgress the command of God because of your tradition?     ipse autem respondens ait illis quare et vos transgredimini mandatum Dei propter traditionem vestram

4.    For God commanded, 'Honor your father and your mother,'{Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 5:16} and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.'{Exodus 21:17; Leviticus 20:9}     For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.     ο γαρ θεος ειπεν  τιμα τον πατερα και την μητερα και ο κακολογων πατερα η μητερα θανατω τελευτατω     for God did command, saying, Honour thy father and mother; and, He who is speaking evil of father or mother -- let him die the death;     nam Deus dixit honora patrem et matrem et qui maledixerit patri vel matri morte moriatur

5.    But you say, 'Whoever may tell his father or his mother, "Whatever help you might otherwise have gotten from me is a gift devoted to God,"     But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;     υμεις δε λεγετε ος αν ειπη τω πατρι η τη μητρι δωρον ο εαν εξ εμου ωφεληθης ου μη τιμησει τον πατερα   αυτου     but ye say, Whoever may say to father or mother, An offering is whatever thou mayest be profited by me; --     vos autem dicitis quicumque dixerit patri vel matri munus quodcumque est ex me tibi proderit

6.    he shall not honor his father or mother.' You have made the commandment of God void because of your tradition.     And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.     και ηκυρωσατε τον λογον του θεου δια την παραδοσιν υμων     and he may not honour his father or his mother, and ye did set aside the command of God because of your tradition.     et non honorificabit patrem suum aut matrem et irritum fecistis mandatum Dei propter traditionem vestram

7.    You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,     Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,     υποκριται καλως επροφητευσεν περι υμων ησαιας λεγων     `Hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,     hypocritae bene prophetavit de vobis Esaias dicens

8.    'These people draw near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.     This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.     ο λαος ουτος   τοις χειλεσιν με τιμα η δε καρδια αυτων πορρω απεχει απ εμου     This people doth draw nigh to Me with their mouth, and with the lips it doth honour Me, but their heart is far off from Me;     populus hic labiis me honorat cor autem eorum longe est a me

9.    And in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrine rules made by men.'"{Isaiah 29:13}     But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.     ματην δε σεβονται με διδασκοντες διδασκαλιας ενταλματα ανθρωπων     and in vain do they worship Me, teaching teachings -- commands of men.`     sine causa autem colunt me docentes doctrinas mandata hominum

10.    He summoned the multitude, and said to them, "Hear, and understand.     And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:     και προσκαλεσαμενος τον οχλον ειπεν αυτοις ακουετε και συνιετε     And having called near the multitude, he said to them, `Hear and understand:     et convocatis ad se turbis dixit eis audite et intellegite

11.    That which enters into the mouth doesn't defile the man; but that which proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man."     Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.     ου το εισερχομενον εις το στομα κοινοι τον ανθρωπον αλλα το εκπορευομενον εκ του στοματος τουτο κοινοι τον ανθρωπον     not that which is coming into the mouth doth defile the man, but that which is coming forth from the mouth, this defileth the man.`     non quod intrat in os coinquinat hominem sed quod procedit ex ore hoc coinquinat hominem

12.    Then the disciples came, and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended, when they heard this saying?"     Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?     τοτε προσελθοντες οι μαθηται λεγουσιν  αυτω οιδας οτι οι φαρισαιοι ακουσαντες τον λογον εσκανδαλισθησαν     Then his disciples having come near, said to him, `Hast thou known that the Pharisees, having heard the word, were stumbled?`     tunc accedentes discipuli eius dixerunt ei scis quia Pharisaei audito verbo scandalizati sunt

13.    But he answered, "Every plant which my heavenly Father didn't plant will be uprooted.     But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.     ο δε αποκριθεις ειπεν πασα φυτεια ην ουκ εφυτευσεν ο πατηρ μου ο ουρανιος εκριζωθησεται     And he answering said, `Every plant that my heavenly Father did not plant shall be rooted up;     at ille respondens ait omnis plantatio quam non plantavit Pater meus caelestis eradicabitur

14.    Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. If the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit."     Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.     αφετε αυτους  τυφλοι εισιν οδηγοι [τυφλων] τυφλος δε τυφλον εαν οδηγη αμφοτεροι εις βοθυνον πεσουνται     let them alone, guides they are -- blind of blind; and if blind may guide blind, both into a ditch shall fall.`     sinite illos caeci sunt duces caecorum caecus autem si caeco ducatum praestet ambo in foveam cadunt

15.    Peter answered him, "Explain the parable to us."     Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.     αποκριθεις δε ο πετρος ειπεν αυτω φρασον ημιν την παραβολην [ταυτην]     And Peter answering said to him, `Explain to us this simile.`     respondens autem Petrus dixit ei edissere nobis parabolam istam

16.    So Jesus said, "Do you also still not understand?     And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?     ο δε ειπεν ακμην και υμεις ασυνετοι εστε     And Jesus said, `Are ye also yet without understanding?     at ille dixit adhuc et vos sine intellectu estis

17.    Don't you understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly, and then out of the body?     Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?     ου νοειτε οτι παν το εισπορευομενον εις το στομα εις την κοιλιαν χωρει και εις αφεδρωνα εκβαλλεται     do ye not understand that all that is going into the mouth doth pass into the belly, and into the drain is cast forth?     non intellegitis quia omne quod in os intrat in ventrem vadit et in secessum emittitur

18.    But the things which proceed out of the mouth come out of the heart, and they defile the man.     But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.     τα δε εκπορευομενα εκ του στοματος εκ της καρδιας εξερχεται κακεινα κοινοι τον ανθρωπον     but the things coming forth from the mouth from the heart do come forth, and these defile the man;     quae autem procedunt de ore de corde exeunt et ea coinquinant hominem

19.    For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies.     For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:     εκ γαρ της καρδιας εξερχονται διαλογισμοι πονηροι φονοι μοιχειαι πορνειαι κλοπαι ψευδομαρτυριαι βλασφημιαι     for out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, whoredoms, thefts, false witnessings, evil speakings:     de corde enim exeunt cogitationes malae homicidia adulteria fornicationes furta falsa testimonia blasphemiae

20.    These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands doesn't defile the man."     These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.     ταυτα εστιν τα κοινουντα τον ανθρωπον το δε ανιπτοις χερσιν φαγειν ου κοινοι τον ανθρωπον     these are the things defiling the man; but to eat with unwashen hands doth not defile the man.`     haec sunt quae coinquinant hominem non lotis autem manibus manducare non coinquinat hominem

21.    Jesus went out from there, and withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon.     Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.     και εξελθων εκειθεν ο ιησους ανεχωρησεν εις τα μερη τυρου και σιδωνος     And Jesus having come forth thence, withdrew to the parts of Tyre and Sidon,     et egressus inde Iesus secessit in partes Tyri et Sidonis

22.    Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, "Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David! My daughter is severely demonized!"     And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.     και ιδου γυνη χαναναια απο των οριων εκεινων εξελθουσα εκραζεν  λεγουσα ελεησον με κυριε υιοσ δαυιδ η θυγατηρ μου κακως δαιμονιζεται     and lo, a woman, a Canaanitess, from those borders having come forth, did call to him, saying, `Deal kindly with me, Sir -- Son of David; my daughter is miserably demonized.`     et ecce mulier chananea a finibus illis egressa clamavit dicens ei miserere mei Domine Fili David filia mea male a daemonio vexatur

23.    But he answered her not a word. His disciples came and begged him, saying, "Send her away; for she cries after us."     But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.     ο δε ουκ απεκριθη αυτη λογον και προσελθοντες οι μαθηται αυτου ηρωτουν αυτον λεγοντες απολυσον αυτην οτι κραζει οπισθεν ημων     And he did not answer her a word; and his disciples having come to him, were asking him, saying -- `Let her away, because she crieth after us;`     qui non respondit ei verbum et accedentes discipuli eius rogabant eum dicentes dimitte eam quia clamat post nos

24.    But he answered, "I wasn't sent to anyone but the lost sheep of the house of Israel."     But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.     ο δε αποκριθεις ειπεν ουκ απεσταλην ει μη εις τα προβατα τα απολωλοτα οικου ισραηλ     and he answering said, `I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.`     ipse autem respondens ait non sum missus nisi ad oves quae perierunt domus Israhel

25.    But she came and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, help me."     Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.     η δε ελθουσα προσεκυνει αυτω λεγουσα κυριε βοηθει μοι     And having come, she was bowing to him, saying, `Sir, help me;`     at illa venit et adoravit eum dicens Domine adiuva me

26.    But he answered, "It is not appropriate to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."     But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.     ο δε αποκριθεις ειπεν ουκ εστιν καλον λαβειν τον αρτον των τεκνων και βαλειν τοις κυναριοις     and he answering said, `It is not good to take the children`s bread, and to cast to the little dogs.`     qui respondens ait non est bonum sumere panem filiorum et mittere canibus

27.    But she said, "Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table."     And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.     η δε ειπεν ναι κυριε και γαρ τα κυναρια εσθιει απο των ψιχιων των πιπτοντων απο της τραπεζης των κυριων αυτων     And she said, `Yes, sir, for even the little dogs do eat of the crumbs that are falling from their lords` table;`     at illa dixit etiam Domine nam et catelli edunt de micis quae cadunt de mensa dominorum suorum

28.    Then Jesus answered her, "Woman, great is your faith! Be it done to you even as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that hour.     Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.     τοτε αποκριθεις ο ιησους ειπεν αυτη ω γυναι μεγαλη σου η πιστις γενηθητω σοι ως θελεις και ιαθη η θυγατηρ αυτης απο της ωρας εκεινης     then answering, Jesus said to her, `O woman, great is thy faith, let it be to thee as thou wilt;` and her daughter was healed from that hour.     tunc respondens Iesus ait illi o mulier magna est fides tua fiat tibi sicut vis et sanata est filia illius ex illa hora

29.    Jesus departed there, and came near to the sea of Galilee; and he went up into the mountain, and sat there.     And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.     και μεταβας εκειθεν ο ιησους ηλθεν παρα την θαλασσαν της γαλιλαιας και αναβας εις το ορος εκαθητο εκει     And Jesus having passed thence, came nigh unto the sea of Galilee, and having gone up to the mountain, he was sitting there,     et cum transisset inde Iesus venit secus mare Galilaeae et ascendens in montem sedebat ibi

30.    Great multitudes came to him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others, and they put them down at his feet. He healed them,     And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:     και προσηλθον αυτω οχλοι πολλοι εχοντες μεθ εαυτων χωλους τυφλους κυλλους κωφουσ και ετερους πολλους και ερριψαν αυτους παρα τους ποδας αυτου  και εθεραπευσεν αυτους     and there came to him great multitudes, having with them lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and they did cast them at the feet of Jesus, and he healed them,     et accesserunt ad eum turbae multae habentes secum mutos clodos caecos debiles et alios multos et proiecerunt eos ad pedes eius et curavit eos

31.    so that the multitude wondered when they saw the mute speaking, injured whole, lame walking, and blind seeing--and they glorified the God of Israel.     Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.     ωστε τον οχλον θαυμασαι βλεποντας κωφους λαλουντας κυλλους υγιεις και χωλους περιπατουντας και τυφλους βλεποντας και εδοξασαν τον θεον ισραηλ     so that the multitudes did wonder, seeing dumb ones speaking, maimed whole, lame walking, and blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.     ita ut turbae mirarentur videntes mutos loquentes clodos ambulantes caecos videntes et magnificabant Deum Israhel

32.    Jesus summoned his disciples and said, "I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days and have nothing to eat. I don't want to send them away fasting, or they might faint on the way."     Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.     ο δε ιησους προσκαλεσαμενος τους μαθητας αυτου ειπεν σπλαγχνιζομαι επι τον οχλον οτι ηδη ημεραι τρεις προσμενουσιν μοι και ουκ εχουσιν τι φαγωσιν και απολυσαι αυτους νηστεις ου θελω μηποτε εκλυθωσιν εν τη οδω     And Jesus having called near his disciples, said, `I have compassion upon the multitude, because now three days they continue with me, and they have not what they may eat; and to let them away fasting I will not, lest they faint in the way.`     Iesus autem convocatis discipulis suis dixit misereor turbae quia triduo iam perseverant mecum et non habent quod manducent et dimittere eos ieiunos nolo ne deficiant in via

33.    The disciples said to him, "Where should we get so many loaves in a deserted place as to satisfy so great a multitude?"     And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?     και λεγουσιν αυτω οι μαθηται ποθεν ημιν εν ερημια αρτοι τοσουτοι ωστε χορτασαι οχλον τοσουτον     And his disciples say to him, `Whence to us, in a wilderness, so many loaves, as to fill so great a multitude?`     et dicunt ei discipuli unde ergo nobis in deserto panes tantos ut saturemus turbam tantam

34.    Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" They said, "Seven, and a few small fish."     And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.     και λεγει αυτοις ο ιησους ποσους αρτους εχετε οι δε ειπαν επτα και ολιγα ιχθυδια     And Jesus saith to them, `How many loaves have ye?` and they said, `Seven, and a few little fishes.`     et ait illis Iesus quot panes habetis at illi dixerunt septem et paucos pisciculos

35.    He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground;     And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.     και παραγγειλασ τω οχλω αναπεσειν επι την γην     And he commanded the multitudes to sit down upon the ground,     et praecepit turbae ut discumberet super terram

36.    and he took the seven loaves and the fish. He gave thanks and broke them, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.     And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.     ελαβεν  τους επτα αρτους και τους ιχθυας και ευχαριστησας εκλασεν και εδιδου τοις μαθηταις οι δε μαθηται τοισ οχλοισ     and having taken the seven loaves and the fishes, having given thanks, he did break, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.     et accipiens septem panes et pisces et gratias agens fregit et dedit discipulis suis et discipuli dederunt populo

37.    They all ate, and were filled. They took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left over.     And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.     και εφαγον παντες και εχορτασθησαν και το περισσευον των κλασματων ηραν επτα σπυριδας πληρεις     And they did all eat, and were filled, and they took up what was over of the broken pieces seven baskets full,     et comederunt omnes et saturati sunt et quod superfuit de fragmentis tulerunt septem sportas plenas

38.    Those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.     And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.     οι δε εσθιοντες ησαν τετρακισχιλιοι ανδρες χωρις γυναικων και παιδιων     and those eating were four thousand men, apart from women and children.     erant autem qui manducaverant quattuor milia hominum extra parvulos et mulieres

39.    Then he sent away the multitudes, got into the boat, and came into the borders of Magdala.     And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.     και απολυσας τους οχλους ενεβη εις το πλοιον και ηλθεν εις τα ορια μαγαδαν     And having let away the multitudes, he went into the boat, and did come to the borders of Magdala.     et dimissa turba ascendit in naviculam et venit in fines Magedan
