1.    The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing him, asked him to show them a sign from heaven.     The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.     και προσελθοντες οι φαρισαιοι και σαδδουκαιοι πειραζοντες επηρωτησαν αυτον σημειον εκ του ουρανου επιδειξαι αυτοις     And the Pharisees and Sadducees having come, tempting, did question him, to shew to them a sign from the heaven,     et accesserunt ad eum Pharisaei et Sadducaei temptantes et rogaverunt eum ut signum de caelo ostenderet eis

2.    But he answered them, "When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.'     He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.     ο δε αποκριθεις ειπεν αυτοις [οψιασ γενομενης λεγετε ευδια πυρραζει γαρ ο ουρανος     and he answering said to them, `Evening having come, ye say, Fair weather, for the heaven is red,     at ille respondens ait eis facto vespere dicitis serenum erit rubicundum est enim caelum

3.    In the morning, 'It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.' Hypocrites! You know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but you can't discern the signs of the times!     And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?     και πρωι σημερον χειμων πυρραζει γαρ στυγναζων ο ουρανος το μεν προσωπον του ουρανου γινωσκετε διακρινειν τα δε σημεια των καιρων ου δυνασθε]     and at morning, Foul weather to-day, for the heaven is red -- gloomy; hypocrites, the face of the heavens indeed ye do know to discern, but the signs of the times ye are not able!     et mane hodie tempestas rutilat enim triste caelum

4.    An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and there will be no sign given to it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah." He left them, and departed.     A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.     γενεα πονηρα και μοιχαλις σημειον επιζητει και σημειον ου δοθησεται αυτη ει μη το σημειον ιωνα  και καταλιπων αυτους απηλθεν     `A generation evil and adulterous doth seek a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet;` and having left them he went away.     faciem ergo caeli diiudicare nostis signa autem temporum non potestis generatio mala et adultera signum quaerit et signum non dabitur ei nisi signum Ionae et relictis illis abiit

5.    The disciples came to the other side and had forgotten to take bread.     And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.     και ελθοντες οι μαθηται εις το περαν επελαθοντο αρτους λαβειν     And his disciples having come to the other side, forgot to take loaves,     et cum venissent discipuli eius trans fretum obliti sunt panes accipere

6.    Jesus said to them, "Take heed and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."     Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.     ο δε ιησους ειπεν αυτοις ορατε και προσεχετε απο της ζυμης των φαρισαιων και σαδδουκαιων     and Jesus said to them, `Beware, and take heed of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees;`     qui dixit illis intuemini et cavete a fermento Pharisaeorum et Sadducaeorum

7.    They reasoned among themselves, saying, "We brought no bread."     And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.     οι δε διελογιζοντο εν εαυτοις λεγοντες οτι αρτους ουκ ελαβομεν     and they were reasoning in themselves, saying, `Because we took no loaves.`     at illi cogitabant inter se dicentes quia panes non accepimus

8.    Jesus, perceiving it, said, "Why do you reason among yourselves, you of little faith, 'because you have brought no bread?'     Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?     γνους δε ο ιησους ειπεν τι διαλογιζεσθε εν εαυτοις ολιγοπιστοι οτι αρτους ουκ εχετε     And Jesus having known, said to them, `Why reason ye in yourselves, ye of little faith, because ye took no loaves?     sciens autem Iesus dixit quid cogitatis inter vos modicae fidei quia panes non habetis

9.    Don't you yet perceive, neither remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up?     Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?     ουπω νοειτε ουδε μνημονευετε τους πεντε αρτους των πεντακισχιλιων και ποσους κοφινους ελαβετε     do ye not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many hand-baskets ye took up?     nondum intellegitis neque recordamini quinque panum quinque milium hominum et quot cofinos sumpsistis

10.    Nor the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up?     Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?     ουδε τους επτα αρτους των τετρακισχιλιων και ποσας σπυριδας ελαβετε     nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?     neque septem panum quattuor milium hominum et quot sportas sumpsistis

11.    How is it that you don't perceive that I didn't speak to you concerning bread? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."     How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?     πως ου νοειτε οτι ου περι αρτων ειπον υμιν προσεχετε δε απο της ζυμης των φαρισαιων και σαδδουκαιων     how do ye not understand that I did not speak to you of bread -- to take heed of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees?`     quare non intellegitis quia non de pane dixi vobis cavete a fermento Pharisaeorum et Sadducaeorum

12.    Then they understood that he didn't tell them to beware of the yeast of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.     Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.     τοτε συνηκαν οτι ουκ ειπεν προσεχειν απο της ζυμης των αρτων  αλλα απο της διδαχης των φαρισαιων και σαδδουκαιων     Then they understood that he did not say to take heed of the leaven of the bread, but of the teaching, of the Pharisees and Sadducees.     tunc intellexerunt quia non dixerit cavendum a fermento panum sed a doctrina Pharisaeorum et Sadducaeorum

13.    Now when Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?"     When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?     ελθων δε ο ιησους εις τα μερη καισαρειας της φιλιππου ηρωτα τους μαθητας αυτου λεγων τινα λεγουσιν οι ανθρωποι ειναι τον υιον του ανθρωπου     And Jesus, having come to the parts of Cesarea Philippi, was asking his disciples, saying, `Who do men say me to be -- the Son of Man?`     venit autem Iesus in partes Caesareae Philippi et interrogabat discipulos suos dicens quem dicunt homines esse Filium hominis

14.    They said, "Some say John the Baptizer, some, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."     And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.     οι δε ειπαν οι μεν ιωαννην τον βαπτιστην αλλοι δε ηλιαν ετεροι δε ιερεμιαν η ενα των προφητων     and they said, `Some, John the Baptist, and others, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.`     at illi dixerunt alii Iohannem Baptistam alii autem Heliam alii vero Hieremiam aut unum ex prophetis

15.    He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"     He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?     λεγει αυτοις υμεις δε τινα με λεγετε ειναι     He saith to them, `And ye -- who do ye say me to be?`     dicit illis vos autem quem me esse dicitis

16.    Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."     And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.     αποκριθεις δε σιμων πετρος ειπεν συ ει ο χριστος ο υιος του θεου του ζωντος     and Simon Peter answering said, `Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.`     respondens Simon Petrus dixit tu es Christus Filius Dei vivi

17.    Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.     And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.     αποκριθεις δε ο ιησους ειπεν αυτω μακαριος ει σιμων βαριωνα  οτι σαρξ και αιμα ουκ απεκαλυψεν σοι αλλ ο πατηρ μου ο εν τοις ουρανοις     And Jesus answering said to him, `Happy art thou, Simon Bar-Jona, because flesh and blood did not reveal it to thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.     respondens autem Iesus dixit ei beatus es Simon Bar Iona quia caro et sanguis non revelavit tibi sed Pater meus qui in caelis est

18.    I also tell you that you are Peter,{Peter's name, Petros in Greek, is the word for a specific rock or stone.} and on this rock{Greek, petra, a rock mass or bedrock.} I will build my assembly, and the gates of Hades{or, Hell} will not prevail against it.     And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.     καγω δε σοι λεγω οτι συ ει πετρος και επι ταυτη τη πετρα οικοδομησω μου την εκκλησιαν και πυλαι αδου ου κατισχυσουσιν αυτης     `And I also say to thee, that thou art a rock, and upon this rock I will build my assembly, and gates of Hades shall not prevail against it;     et ego dico tibi quia tu es Petrus et super hanc petram aedificabo ecclesiam meam et portae inferi non praevalebunt adversum eam

19.    I will give to you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven; and whatever you release on earth will have been released in heaven."     And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.     δωσω σοι τας κλειδασ της βασιλειας των ουρανων και ο εαν δησης επι της γης εσται δεδεμενον εν τοις ουρανοις και ο εαν λυσης επι της γης εσται λελυμενον εν τοις ουρανοις     and I will give to thee the keys of the reign of the heavens, and whatever thou mayest bind upon the earth shall be having been bound in the heavens, and whatever thou mayest loose upon the earth shall be having been loosed in the heavens.`     et tibi dabo claves regni caelorum et quodcumque ligaveris super terram erit ligatum in caelis et quodcumque solveris super terram erit solutum in caelis

20.    Then he commanded the disciples that they should tell no one that he was Jesus the Christ.     Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.     τοτε διεστειλατο τοις μαθηταις ινα μηδενι ειπωσιν οτι αυτος εστιν ο χριστος     Then did he charge his disciples that they may say to no one that he is Jesus the Christ.     tunc praecepit discipulis suis ut nemini dicerent quia ipse esset Iesus Christus

21.    From that time, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.     From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.     απο τοτε ηρξατο ο ιησους δεικνυειν τοις μαθηταις αυτου οτι δει αυτον εις ιεροσολυμα απελθειν και πολλα παθειν απο των πρεσβυτερων και αρχιερεων και γραμματεων και αποκτανθηναι και τη τριτη ημερα εγερθηναι     From that time began Jesus to shew to his disciples that it is necessary for him to go away to Jerusalem, and to suffer many things from the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and to be put to death, and the third day to rise.     exinde coepit Iesus ostendere discipulis suis quia oporteret eum ire Hierosolymam et multa pati a senioribus et scribis et principibus sacerdotum et occidi et tertia die resurgere

22.    Peter took him aside, and began to rebuke him, saying, "Far be it from you, Lord! This will never be done to you."     Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.     και προσλαβομενος αυτον ο πετρος ηρξατο επιτιμαν αυτω λεγων ιλεως σοι κυριε ου μη εσται σοι τουτο     And having taken him aside, Peter began to rebuke him, saying, `Be kind to thyself, sir; this shall not be to thee;`     et adsumens eum Petrus coepit increpare illum dicens absit a te Domine non erit tibi hoc

23.    But he turned, and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me, for you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of men."     But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.     ο δε στραφεις ειπεν τω πετρω υπαγε οπισω μου σατανα σκανδαλον ει εμου οτι ου φρονεις τα του θεου αλλα τα των ανθρωπων     and he having turned, said to Peter, `Get thee behind me, adversary! thou art a stumbling-block to me, for thou dost not mind the things of God, but the things of men.`     qui conversus dixit Petro vade post me Satana scandalum es mihi quia non sapis ea quae Dei sunt sed ea quae hominum

24.    Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.     Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.     τοτε ο ιησους ειπεν τοις μαθηταις αυτου ει τις θελει οπισω μου ελθειν απαρνησασθω εαυτον και αρατω τον σταυρον αυτου και ακολουθειτω μοι     Then said Jesus to his disciples, `If any one doth will to come after me, let him disown himself, and take up his cross, and follow me,     tunc Iesus dixit discipulis suis si quis vult post me venire abneget semet ipsum et tollat crucem suam et sequatur me

25.    For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.     For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.     ος γαρ εαν θελη την ψυχην αυτου σωσαι απολεσει αυτην ος δ αν απολεση την ψυχην αυτου ενεκεν εμου ευρησει αυτην     for whoever may will to save his life, shall lose it, and whoever may lose his life for my sake shall find it,     qui enim voluerit animam suam salvam facere perdet eam qui autem perdiderit animam suam propter me inveniet eam

26.    For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?     For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?     τι γαρ ωφεληθησεται ανθρωπος εαν τον κοσμον ολον κερδηση την δε ψυχην αυτου ζημιωθη η τι δωσει ανθρωπος ανταλλαγμα της ψυχης αυτου     for what is a man profited if he may gain the whole world, but of his life suffer loss? or what shall a man give as an exchange for his life?     quid enim prodest homini si mundum universum lucretur animae vero suae detrimentum patiatur aut quam dabit homo commutationem pro anima sua

27.    For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will render to everyone according to his deeds.     For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.     μελλει γαρ ο υιος του ανθρωπου ερχεσθαι εν τη δοξη του πατρος αυτου μετα των αγγελων αυτου και τοτε αποδωσει εκαστω κατα την πραξιν αυτου     `For, the Son of Man is about to come in the glory of his Father, with his messengers, and then he will reward each, according to his work.     Filius enim hominis venturus est in gloria Patris sui cum angelis suis et tunc reddet unicuique secundum opus eius

28.    Most certainly I tell you, there are some standing here who will in no way taste of death, until they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom."     Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.     αμην λεγω υμιν οτι εισιν τινες των ωδε εστωτων  οιτινες ου μη γευσωνται θανατου εως αν ιδωσιν τον υιον του ανθρωπου ερχομενον εν τη βασιλεια αυτου     Verily I say to you, there are certain of those standing here who shall not taste of death till they may see the Son of Man coming in his reign.`     amen dico vobis sunt quidam de hic stantibus qui non gustabunt mortem donec videant Filium hominis venientem in regno suo
