Consider these [messages] that spread [the truth] far and wide,
|

And/by the spreading/extending/winds (for clouds), spreading out/extending.

Then separate them, one from another,
|
|
thus separating [right and wrong] with all clarity, [3]2

So the separated clouds/separators of right and wrong, separating.

Then spread abroad a Message,

and then giving forth a reminder,
|
|
So the throwing/throwing away a reminder/remembrance (delivering messages).

Whether of Justification or of Warning;-

[promising] freedom from blame or [offering] a warning! [4]3

An excuse/fault or sins or (a) warning/notice.

Assuredly, what ye are promised must come to pass.

BEHOLD, all that you are told to expect [5]4 will surely come to pass.

|
Thus, [it will come to pass] when the stars are effaced,
|

So when/if the stars/planets were eliminated/effaced.

and when the sky is rent asunder,
|
|
And when/if the sky/space opened/split open.

For what day has the term [of all this] been set?

And what could make thee conceive what that Day of Distinction will be?

Did We not destroy the men of old (for their evil)?

Did We not destroy [so many of] those [sinners] of olden days?

So shall We make later (generations) follow them.
|
|
And We shall let them be followed by those of later times: [8]7

Then We make them followed (by) the lasts/others.

Thus do We deal with men of sin.
|
|
[for] thus do We deal with such as are lost in sin.
|
|
As/like that We make/do with the criminals/sinners.

Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

Woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth!

Have We not created you from a fluid (held) despicable?-
|
|
Did We not create you out of a humble fluid
|
|
Did We not create you from despised/humiliated (discarded) water?

The which We placed in a place of rest, firmly fixed,
|
|
which We then let remain in [the womb's] firm keeping
|
|
So We made/put it in a highly positioned/established settlement/affixation.

For a period (of gestation), determined (according to need)?
|
|
for a term pre-ordained?
|
|
To a known predestiny/estimation.
|

For We do determine (according to need); for We are the best to determine (things).

Thus have We determined [the nature of man's creation]: and excellent indeed is Our power to determine [what is to be]! [9]8

So We evaluated and measured precisely, so blessed/praised (are) the capable/able.

Have We not made the earth (as a place) to draw together.

Have We not caused the earth to hold within itself

Did We not make the earth/Planet Earth encompassing/containing internally and externally ?

The living and the dead,
|
|
the living and the dead? [10]9 -
|
|
Alive and deads.
|
|

And made therein mountains standing firm, lofty (in stature); and provided for you water sweet (and wholesome)?

and have We not set on it proud, firm mountains, and given you sweet water to drink? [11]10
|
|
And We made/put in it anchors/mountains high/towering, and We gave you drink (from) very sweet/fresh water.

(It will be said:) "Depart ye to that which ye used to reject as false!

GO ON towards that [resurrection] which you were wont to call a lie!

Leave/go/set out to what you were with it lying/denying/falsifying.

"Depart ye to a Shadow (of smoke ascending) in three columns,
|
|
Go on towards the threefold shadow [12]11

Leave/go/set out to shade of three branches/three off shoots.

"(Which yields) no shade of coolness, and is of no use against the fierce Blaze.
|
|
that will offer no [cooling] shade and will be of no avail against the flame
|
|
Not shading and nor enriches/suffices (protects) from the flame of a smokeless fire.

"Indeed it throws about sparks (huge) as Forts,

which - behold!- will throw up sparks like [burning] logs,

That it truly throws with sparks as (big) as the castle/palace.

That will be a Day of Sorting out! We shall gather you together and those before (you)!
|
|
that Day of Distinction [between the true and the false, when they will be told]: "We have brought you together with those [sinners] of olden times;

That (is) the Judgment Day/Separation Day/Resurrection Day We gathered/collected you and the first/beginners.

Now, if ye have a trick (or plot), use it against Me!

and if you [think that you] have a subterfuge left, try to outwit Me!"

Thus do We certainly reward the Doers of Good.

Thus, behold, do We reward the doers of good;

That truly like that We reimburse the good doers.

[but] woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth!

(O ye unjust!) Eat ye and enjoy yourselves (but) a little while, for that ye are Sinners.

EAT [your fill] and enjoy your life for a little while, O you who are lost in sin! [15]14

Eat and enjoy little that you truly are criminals/sinners.
