| 4. * | Then press forward as in a race, | and yet overtake [one another] with swift overtaking: [4]3 | So the racing/surpassing/preceding, racing/surpassing/preceding. | falsabqat sbqa | |||
| 5. * | Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord), | and thus they fulfil the [Creator's] behest! | So the regulators/arrangers/planners (of) a matter/affair/order/command. | falmdbrat amra | |||
| 6. * | One Day everything that can be in commotion will be in violent commotion, | [HENCE, [5]4 think of] the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world], | A day/time the first blow of the horn trembles and shakes/agitates. | ywm trjf alrajf+ | |||
| 7. * | Followed by oft-repeated (commotions): | to be followed by further [convulsions]! | The followed closely behind follows it. | ttb`ha alradf+ | |||
| 8. * | Hearts that Day will be in agitation; | On that Day will [men's] hearts be throbbing, | Hearts (on) that day (are) palpitating/pounding. | qlwb ywmYX wajf+ | |||
| 9. * | Cast down will be (their owners') eyes. | [and] their eyes downcast. . . | Its eyesight/understanding (is) humble/submissive. | abSarha Ka$`+ | |||
| 10. * | They say (now): "What! shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state? | [And yet,] some say, "What! Are we indeed to be restored to our former state - | They say: "Are we returning (E) in the first creation ?" | yqwlwn aYna lmrdwdwn fy alHafr+ | |||
| 11. * | "What! - when we shall have become rotten bones?" | even though we may have become [a heap of] crumbling bones?" | Is (it that) if we were decayed/decomposed bones. | aYXa kna `Zama nKr+ | |||
| 12. * | They say: "It would, in that case, be a return with loss!" | [And] they add, "That, then, would be a return with loss!" [6]5 | They said: "That is then a loosing repetition." | qalwa tlk aXa kr+ Kasr+ | |||
| 13. * | But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry, | [But,] then, that [Last Hour] will be [upon them of a sudden, as if it were] but a single accusing cry - | So but it is one deterrent/cry to drive out. | fanma hy zjr+ waHd+ | |||
| 14. * | When, behold, they will be in the (full) awakening (to Judgment). | and then, lo, they will be fully awakened [to the truth]! | So then they are at the Earth's surface. | faXa hm balsahr+ | |||
| 15. * | Has the story of Moses reached thee? | HAS THE STORY of Moses ever come within thy ken. [7]6 | Did Moses' information/speech come to you? | hl atak Hdyx mwsi | |||
| 16. * | Behold, thy Lord did call to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa:- | Lo! His Sustainer called out to him in the twice-hallowed valley: [8]7 | When His Lord called him at the Valley the Holy/Sanctified Tuwan/concealed/folded within : | aX nadah rbh balwad almqds Twi | |||
| 17. * | "Go thou to Pharaoh for he has indeed transgressed all bounds: | "Go unto Pharaoh - for, verily, he has transgressed all bounds of what is right - | Go to Pharaoh, that he truly exceeded the limit/tyrannized. | aXhb ali fr`wn anh TGi | |||
| 18. * | "And say to him, 'Wouldst thou that thou shouldst be purified (from sin)?- | and say[unto him], 'Art thou desirous of attaining to purity? | So say: 'Is there for you that (E) you purify/become righteous ?' | fql hl lk ali an tzki | |||
| 19. * | "'And that I guide thee to thy Lord, so thou shouldst fear Him?'" | [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" [9]8 | 'And I guide you to your Lord so you fear.' | wahdyk ali rbk ftK$i | |||
| 20. * | Then did (Moses) show him the Great Sign. | And thereupon he [went to Pharaoh and] made him aware of the great wonder [of God's grace]. [10]9 | So he showed him/made him understand the verse/evidence/sign, the greatest/biggest. | farah alay+ alkbri | |||
| 21. * | But (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed (guidance); | But [Pharaoh] gave him the lie and rebelliously rejected [all guidance], | So he denied/falsified, and he disobeyed. | fkXb w`Si | |||
| 22. * | Further, he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah.. | and brusquely turned his back [on Moses]; | Then he gave his back/ended/passed hastening. | xm adbr ys`i | |||
| 23. * | Then he collected (his men) and made a proclamation, | and then he gathered [his great ones], and called [unto his people], | So he gathered, so he called. | fH$r fnadi | |||
| 24. * | Saying, "I am your Lord, Most High". | and said, "I am your Lord All-Highest!" [11]10 | So he said: "I am your lord the highest/mightiest." | fqal ana rbkm ala`li | |||
| 25. * | But Allah did punish him, (and made an) example of him, - in the Hereafter, as in this life. | And thereupon God took him to task, [and made him] a warning example in the life to come as well as in this world. | 26. * | Verily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth ((Allah)). | In this, behold, there is a lesson indeed for all who stand in awe [of God]. | That truly in that (is) an example/warning (E) to who fears. | an fy Xlk l`br+ lmn yK$i | |||
| 27. * | What! Are ye the more difficult to create or the heaven (above)? ((Allah)) hath constructed it: | [O MEN!] Are you more difficult to create than the heaven which He has built? | 28. * | On high hath He raised its canopy, and He hath given it order and perfection. | High has He reared its vault and formed it in accordance with what it was meant to be; [14]13 | He raised its height/thickness, so He straightened it. | rf` smkha fswaha | |||
| 29. * | Its night doth He endow with darkness, and its splendour doth He bring out (with light). | and He has made dark its night and brought forth its light of day. | And He darkened its night, and He brought out its day break. | waGT$ lylha waKrj DHaha | |||
| 30. * | And the earth, moreover, hath He extended (to a wide expanse); | And after that, the earth: wide has He spread its expanse, | And the earth/Planet Earth after that He blew and stretched/spread it. | walarD b`d Xlk dHaha | |||
| 31. * | He draweth out therefrom its moisture and its pasture; | and has caused its waters to come out of it, and its pastures, [15]14 | He brought out from it its water and its pasture. | aKrj mnha ma'ha wmr`aha | |||
| 32. * | And the mountains hath He firmly fixed;- | and has made the mountains firm: | And the mountains, He anchored it/fixed it firmly. | waljbal arsaha | |||
| 33. * | For use and convenience to you and your cattle. | [all this] as a means of livelihood for you and your animals. [16]15 | Enjoyment for you and for your camels/livestock. | mta`a lkm wlan`amkm | |||
| 34. * | Therefore, when there comes the great, overwhelming (Event),- | AND SO, when the great overwhelming event [of, resurrection] comes to pass - | So if/when the Calamity/Greatest Disaster/Resurrection Day the greatest came. | faXa ja't alTam+ alkbri | |||
| 35. * | The Day when man shall remember (all) that he strove for, | on that Day man will [clearly] remember all that he has ever wrought; | A day/time the human/mankind remembers/recites what he strived/endeavored. | ywm ytXkr alansan mas`i | |||
| 36. * | And Hell-Fire shall be placed in full view for (all) to see,- | and the blazing fire [of hell] will be lad open before all who [are destined to] see it. [17]16 | And the Hell was made to emerge to who sees/understands. | wbrzt aljHym lmn yri | |||
| 37. * | Then, for such as had transgressed all bounds, | For, unto him who shall have transgressed the bounds of what is right, | So but who exceeded the limit/tyrannized/became arrogant. | fama mn TGi | |||
| 38. * | And had preferred the life of this world, | and preferred the life of this world [to the good of his soul], | And preferred/chose the life the present/worldly life. | waxr alHya+ aldnya | |||
| 39. * | The Abode will be Hell-Fire; | that blazing fire will truly be the goal! | So then the Hell, it is the shelter/refuge. | fan aljHym hy almawi | |||
| 40. * | And for such as had entertained the fear of standing before their Lord's (tribunal) and had restrained (their) soul from lower desires, | But unto him who shall have stood in fear of his Sustainer's Presence, and held back his inner self from base desires, | And but who feared his Lord's position/status and he forbid/prevented the self from the self attraction for desire. | wama mn Kaf mqam rbh wnhi alnfs `n alhwi | |||
| 41. * | Their abode will be the Garden. | paradise will truly be the goal! | So then the Paradise/treed garden, it is the shelter/refuge. | fan aljn+ hy almawi | |||
| 42. * | They ask thee about the Hour,-'When will be its appointed time? | THEY WILL ASK thee [O Prophet] about the Last Hour: "When will it come to pass?" | They ask/question you about the Hour/Resurrection when (is) its landing ? | ysAlwnk `n alsa`+ ayan mrsaha | |||
| 43. * | Wherein art thou (concerned) with the declaration thereof? | [But] how couldst thou tell anything about it, [18]17 | In what you are from mentioning/remembering it (what do you know about it or its time)? | fym ant mn Xkraha | |||
| 44. * | With thy Lord in the Limit fixed therefor. | [seeing that] with thy Sustainer alone rests the beginning and the end [of all knowledge] thereof? [19]18 | To your Lord (is) its ultimate/absolute end. | ali rbk mnthaha | |||
| 45. * | Thou art but a Warner for such as fear it. | Thou art but [sent] to warn those who stand in awe of it. | Truly/but you are a warner/giver of notice (to) who fears it. | anma ant mnXr mn yK$aha | |||
| 46. * | The Day they see it, (It will be) as if they had tarried but a single evening, or (at most till) the following morn! | On the Day when they behold it, [it will seem to them] as if they had tarried [in this world] no longer than one evening or [one night, ending with] its morn!
