Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created-
|
|
Read, in the name of your Lord, who created.
|
|
سورة العلق بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ اقرا باسم ربك الذي خلق
|
|
Read by your Lord's name who created.
|
|
|
|
Iqra\ bi-ismi rabbika allathee khalaqa
|

| 2. * |
Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood:
|
|
He created man from an embryo.
|
|
خلق الانسان من علق
|
|
He created the human/mankind from blood clots/sperm.
|
|
|
|
Khalaqa al-insana min AAalaqin
|
| |
| 3. * |
Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,-
|
|
Read, and your Lord, Most Exalted.
|
|
اقرا وربك الاكرم
|
|
Read and/by your Lord, the most honoured/generous.
|
|
|
|
Iqra\ warabbuka al-akramu
|
| |
| 4. * |
He Who taught (the use of) the pen,-
|
|
Teaches by means of the pen.
|
|
الذي علم بالقلم
|
|
Who taught/instructed by the pen/writing utensil.
|
|
|
|
Allathee AAallama bialqalami
|
| |
| 5. * |
Taught man that which he knew not.
|
|
He teaches man what he never knew.
|
|
علم الانسان مالم يعلم
|
|
He taught/instructed the human/mankind what he did not know.
|
|
|
|
AAallama al-insana malam yaAAlam
|
| |
| 6. * |
Day, but man doth transgress all bounds,
|
|
Indeed, the human transgresses.
|
|
كلا ان الانسان ليطغى
|
|
No but that truly the human/mankind tyrannizes/exceeds the limit (E).
|
|
|
|
Kallainna al-insana layatgha
|
| |
| 7. * |
In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient.
|
|
When he becomes rich.
|
|
ان راه استغنى
|
|
That (E) he saw/understood him(self), he enriched/sufficed (himself).
|
|
|
|
An raahu istaghna
|
| |
| 8. * |
Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all).
|
|
To your Lord is the ultimate destiny.
|
|
ان الى ربك الرجعى
|
|
That truly to your Lord (is) the return.
|
|
|
|
Inna ilarabbika alrrujAAa
|
| |
| 9. * |
Seest thou one who forbids-
|
|
Have you seen the one who enjoins.
|
|
ارايت الذي ينهى
|
|
Did you see/understand who forbids/prevents?
|
|
|
|
Araayta allathee yanha
|
| |
| 10. * |
A votary when he (turns) to pray?
|
|
Others from praying?
|
|
عبدا اذا صلى
|
|
A worshipper/servant/slave when/if he prayed ?
|
|
|
|
AAabdan ithasalla
|
| |
| 11. * |
Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?-
|
|
Is it not better for him to follow the guidance?
|
|
ارايت ان كان على الهدى
|
|
Did you see/understand if he was on the guidance?
|
|
|
|
Araayta in kana AAalaalhuda
|
| |
| 12. * |
Or enjoins Righteousness?
|
|
Or advocate righteousness?
|
|
او امر بالتقوى
|
|
Or he ordered/commanded with the fear and obedience of God?
|
|
|
|
Aw amara bialttaqwa
|
| |
| 13. * |
Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away?
|
|
If he disbelieves and turns away.
|
|
ارايت ان كذب وتولى
|
|
Did you see/understand if he lied/denied/falsified and he turned away?
|
|
|
|
Araayta in kaththaba watawalla
|
| |
| 14. * |
Knoweth he not that Allah doth see?
|
|
Does he not realize that GOD sees?
|
|
الم يعلم بان الله يرى
|
|
Does he not know with that (E) God sees/understands?
|
|
|
|
Alam yaAAlam bi-anna Allaha yara
|
| |
| 15. * |
Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,-
|
|
Indeed, unless he refrains, we will take him by the forelock.
|
|
كلا لئن لم ينته لنسفعا بالناصية
|
|
No but if (E) he does not end/terminate/stop, We will pull and strike (E) by the forehead/forehead's hair.
|
|
|
|
Kallala-in lam yantahi lanasfaAAan bialnnasiyati
|

| 16. * |
A lying, sinful forelock!
|
|
A forelock that is disbelieving and sinful.
|
|
ناصية كاذبة خاطئة
|
|
A lying/denying/falsifying, sinning/erring/wronging forehead/forehead's hair.
|
|
|
|
Nasiyatin kathibatin khati-atin
|
| |
| 17. * |
Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades):
|
|
Let him then call on his helpers.
|
|
فليدع ناديه
|
|
So he should call his caller.
|
|
|
|
FalyadAAu nadiyahu
|
| |
| 18. * |
We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)!
|
|
We will call the guardians of Hell.
|
|
سندع الزبانية
|
|
We will call the strong ones/patrol force/Elzabaneya angels.
|
|
|
|
SanadAAu alzzabaniyata
|
| |
| 19. * |
Day, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah.!
|
|
You shall not obey him; you shall fall prostrate and draw nearer.
|
|
كلا لاتطعه واسجد واقترب
|
|
No but do not obey him, and prostrate and near/approach (to Me).
|
|
|
|
KallalatutiAAhu waosjud waiqtarib
|
