1.    τοτε ομοιωθησεται η βασιλεια των ουρανων δεκα παρθενοις αιτινες λαβουσαι τας λαμπαδας εαυτων εξηλθον εις υπαντησιν του νυμφιου     Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.     "Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went out to meet the bridegroom.     Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, the friends of the bride, who took their lights, and went out with the purpose of meeting the husband.

2.    πεντε δε εξ αυτων ησαν   μωραι και πεντε φρονιμοι     And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.     Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.     And five of them were foolish, and five were wise.

3.    αι γαρ μωραι λαβουσαι τας λαμπαδας αυτων ουκ ελαβον μεθ εαυτων ελαιον     They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:     Those who were foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them,     For the foolish, when they took their lights, took no oil with them.

4.    αι δε φρονιμοι ελαβον ελαιον εν τοις αγγειοις μετα των λαμπαδων εαυτων     But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.     but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.     But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lights.

5.    χρονιζοντος δε του νυμφιου ενυσταξαν πασαι και εκαθευδον     While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.     Now while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept.     Now the husband was a long time in coming, and they all went to sleep.

6.    μεσης δε νυκτος κραυγη γεγονεν ιδου ο νυμφιος εξερχεσθε εις απαντησιν [αυτου]     And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.     But at midnight there was a cry, 'Behold! The bridegroom is coming! Come out to meet him!'     But in the middle of the night there is a cry, The husband comes! Go out to him.

7.    τοτε ηγερθησαν πασαι αι παρθενοι εκειναι και εκοσμησαν τας λαμπαδας εαυτων     Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.     Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.{The end of the wick of an oil lamp needs to be cut off periodically to avoid having it become clogged with carbon deposits. The wick height is also adjusted so that the flame burns evenly and gives good light without producing a lot of smoke.}     Then all those virgins got up, and made ready their lights.

8.    αι δε μωραι ταις φρονιμοις ειπαν δοτε ημιν εκ του ελαιου υμων οτι αι λαμπαδες ημων σβεννυνται     And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.     The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us  some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'     And the foolish said to the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lights are going out.

9.    απεκριθησαν δε αι φρονιμοι λεγουσαι μηποτε ου μη αρκεση ημιν και υμιν πορευεσθε μαλλον προς τους πωλουντας και αγορασατε εαυταις     But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.     But the wise answered, saying, 'What if there isn't enough for us and you? You go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.'     But the wise made answer, saying, There may not be enough for us and you; it would be better for you to go to the traders and get oil for yourselves.

10.    απερχομενων δε αυτων αγορασαι ηλθεν ο νυμφιος και αι ετοιμοι εισηλθον μετ αυτου εις τους γαμους και εκλεισθη η θυρα     And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.     While they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut.     And while they went to get oil, the master came; and those who were ready went in with him to the feast: and the door was shut.

11.    υστερον δε ερχονται και αι λοιπαι παρθενοι λεγουσαι κυριε κυριε ανοιξον ημιν     Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.     Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us.'     After that the other virgins came, saying, Lord, Lord, let us in.

12.    ο δε αποκριθεις ειπεν αμην λεγω υμιν ουκ οιδα υμας     But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.     But he answered, 'Most certainly I tell you, I don't know you.'     But he made answer and said, Truly I say to you, I have no knowledge of you.

13.    γρηγορειτε ουν οτι ουκ οιδατε την ημεραν ουδε την ωραν        Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.     Watch therefore, for you don't know the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.     Keep watch, then, because you are not certain of the day or of the hour.

14.    ωσπερ γαρ ανθρωπος αποδημων εκαλεσεν τους ιδιους δουλους και παρεδωκεν αυτοις τα υπαρχοντα αυτου     For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.     "For it is like a man, going into another country, who called his own servants, and entrusted his goods to them.     For it is as when a man, about to take a journey, got his servants together, and gave them his property.

15.    και ω μεν εδωκεν πεντε ταλαντα ω δε δυο ω δε εν εκαστω κατα την ιδιαν δυναμιν και απεδημησεν ευθεως     And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.     To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his own ability. Then he went on his journey.     And to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to everyone as he was able; and he went on his journey.

16.    πορευθεις ο τα πεντε ταλαντα λαβων ηργασατο εν αυτοις και εκερδησεν αλλα πεντε     Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.     Immediately he who received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents.     Straight away he who had been given the five talents went and did trade with them, and made five more.

17.    ωσαυτως ο τα δυο εκερδησεν  αλλα δυο     And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.     In like manner he also who got the two gained another two.     In the same way he who had been given the two got two more.

18.    ο δε το εν λαβων απελθων ωρυξεν γην  και εκρυψεν το αργυριον του κυριου αυτου     But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.     But he who received the one went away and dug in the earth, and hid his lord's money.     But he who was given the one went away and put it in a hole in the earth, and kept his lord's money in a secret place.

19.    μετα δε πολυν χρονον ερχεται ο κυριος των δουλων εκεινων και συναιρει λογον μετ αυτων     After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.     "Now after a long time the lord of those servants came, and reconciled accounts with them.     Now after a long time the lord of those servants comes, and makes up his account with them.

20.    και προσελθων ο τα πεντε ταλαντα λαβων προσηνεγκεν αλλα πεντε ταλαντα λεγων κυριε πεντε ταλαντα μοι παρεδωκας ιδε αλλα πεντε ταλαντα εκερδησα     And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.     He who received the five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, 'Lord, you delivered to me five talents. Behold, I have gained another five talents besides them.'     And he who had the five talents came with his other five talents, saying, Lord, you gave into my care five talents: see, I have got five more.

21.    εφη αυτω ο κυριος αυτου ευ δουλε αγαθε και πιστε επι ολιγα ης πιστος επι πολλων σε καταστησω εισελθε εις την χαραν του κυριου σου     His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.     "His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'     His lord said to him, Well done, good and true servant: you have been true in a small thing, I will give you control over great things: take your part in the joy of your lord.

22.    προσελθων [δε] και ο τα δυο ταλαντα ειπεν κυριε δυο ταλαντα μοι παρεδωκας ιδε αλλα δυο ταλαντα εκερδησα     He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.     "He also who got the two talents came and said, 'Lord, you delivered to me two talents. Behold, I have gained another two talents besides them.'     And he who had the two talents came and said, Lord, you gave into my care two talents: see, I have got two more.

23.    εφη αυτω ο κυριος αυτου ευ δουλε αγαθε και πιστε επι ολιγα ης πιστος επι πολλων σε καταστησω εισελθε εις την χαραν του κυριου σου     His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

24.    προσελθων δε και ο το εν ταλαντον ειληφως ειπεν κυριε εγνων σε οτι σκληρος ει ανθρωπος θεριζων οπου ουκ εσπειρας και συναγων οθεν ου διεσκορπισας     Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:     "He also who had received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew you that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter.     And he who had had the one talent came and said, Lord, I had knowledge that you are a hard man, getting in grain where you have not put seed, and making profits for which you have done no work:

25.    και φοβηθεις απελθων εκρυψα το ταλαντον σου εν τη γη ιδε εχεις το σον     And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.     I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, you have what is yours.'     And I was in fear, and went away, and put your talent in the earth: here is what is yours.

26.    αποκριθεις δε ο κυριος αυτου ειπεν αυτω πονηρε δουλε και οκνηρε ηδεις οτι θεριζω οπου ουκ εσπειρα και συναγω οθεν ου διεσκορπισα     His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:     "But his lord answered him, 'You wicked and slothful servant. You knew that I reap where I didn't sow, and gather where I didn't scatter.     But his lord in answer said to him, You are a bad and unready servant; if you had knowledge that I get in grain where I did not put seed, and make profits for which I have done no work,

27.    εδει σε ουν βαλειν τα αργυρια μου τοις τραπεζιταις και ελθων εγω εκομισαμην αν το εμον συν τοκω     Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.     You ought therefore to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back my own with interest.     Why, then, did you not put my money in the bank, and at my coming I would have got back what is mine with interest?

28.    αρατε ουν απ αυτου το ταλαντον και δοτε τω εχοντι τα δεκα ταλαντα     Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.     Take away therefore the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents.     Take away, then, his talent and give it to him who has the ten talents.

29.    τω γαρ εχοντι παντι δοθησεται και περισσευθησεται  του δε μη εχοντος και ο εχει αρθησεται απ αυτου     For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.     For to everyone who has will be given, and he will have abundance, but from him who doesn't have, even that which he has will be taken away.     For to everyone who has will be given, and he will have more: but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

30.    και τον αχρειον δουλον εκβαλετε εις το σκοτος το εξωτερον εκει εσται ο κλαυθμος και ο βρυγμος των οδοντων     And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.     Throw out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'     And put out the servant who is of no profit into the outer dark: there will be weeping and cries of sorrow.

31.    οταν δε ελθη ο υιος του ανθρωπου εν τη δοξη αυτου και παντες οι αγγελοι μετ αυτου τοτε καθισει επι θρονου δοξης αυτου     When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:     "But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory.     But when the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then will he be seated in his glory:

32.    και συναχθησονται εμπροσθεν αυτου παντα τα εθνη και αφορισει αυτους απ αλληλων ωσπερ ο ποιμην αφοριζει τα προβατα απο των εριφων     And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:     Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.     And before him all the nations will come together; and they will be parted one from another, as the sheep are parted from the goats by the keeper.

33.    και στησει τα μεν προβατα εκ δεξιων αυτου τα δε εριφια εξ ευωνυμων     And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.     He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.     And he will put the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.

34.    τοτε ερει ο βασιλευς τοις εκ δεξιων αυτου δευτε οι ευλογημενοι του πατρος μου κληρονομησατε την ητοιμασμενην υμιν βασιλειαν απο καταβολης κοσμου     Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:     Then the King will tell those on his right hand, 'Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;     Then will the King say to those on his right, Come, you who have the blessing of my Father, into the kingdom made ready for you before the world was:

35.    επεινασα γαρ και εδωκατε μοι φαγειν εδιψησα και εποτισατε με ξενος ημην και συνηγαγετε με     For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:     for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in.     For I was in need of food, and you gave it to me: I was in need of drink, and you gave it to me: I was wandering, and you took me in;

36.    γυμνος και περιεβαλετε με ησθενησα και επεσκεψασθε με εν φυλακη ημην και ηλθατε προς με     Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.     I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came to me.'     I had no clothing, and you gave it to me: when I was ill, or in prison, you came to me.

37.    τοτε αποκριθησονται αυτω οι δικαιοι λεγοντες κυριε ποτε σε ειδομεν πεινωντα και εθρεψαμεν η διψωντα και εποτισαμεν     Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?     "Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink?     Then will the upright make answer to him, saying, Lord, when did we see you in need of food, and give it to you? or in need of drink, and give it to you?

38.    ποτε δε σε ειδομεν ξενον και συνηγαγομεν η γυμνον και περιεβαλομεν     When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?     When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you?     And when did we see you wandering, and take you in? or without clothing, and give it to you?

39.    ποτε δε σε ειδομεν ασθενουντα η εν φυλακη και ηλθομεν προς σε     Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?     When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?'     And when did we see you ill, or in prison, and come to you?

40.    και αποκριθεις ο βασιλευς ερει αυτοις αμην λεγω υμιν εφ οσον εποιησατε ενι τουτων των αδελφων μου των ελαχιστων εμοι εποιησατε     And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.     "The King will answer them, 'Most certainly I tell you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers{The word for "brothers" here may be also correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."}, you did it to me.'     And the King will make answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Because you did it to the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.

41.    τοτε ερει και τοις εξ ευωνυμων πορευεσθε απ εμου [οι] κατηραμενοι εις το πυρ το αιωνιον το ητοιμασμενον τω διαβολω και τοις αγγελοις αυτου     Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:     Then he will say also to those on the left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels;     Then will he say to those on the left, Go from me, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire which is ready for the Evil One and his angels:

42.    επεινασα γαρ και ουκ εδωκατε μοι φαγειν εδιψησα και ουκ εποτισατε με     For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:     for I was hungry, and you didn't give me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink;     For I was in need of food, and you gave it not to me; I was in need of drink, and you gave it not to me:

43.    ξενος ημην και ου συνηγαγετε με γυμνος και ου περιεβαλετε με ασθενης και εν φυλακη και ουκ επεσκεψασθε με     I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.     I was a stranger, and you didn't take me in; naked, and you didn't clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn't visit me.'     I was wandering, and you took me not in; without clothing, and you gave me no clothing; ill, and in prison, and you came not to me.

44.    τοτε αποκριθησονται και αυτοι λεγοντες κυριε ποτε σε ειδομεν πεινωντα η διψωντα η ξενον η γυμνον η ασθενη η εν φυλακη και ου διηκονησαμεν σοι     Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?     "Then they will also answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and didn't help you?'     Then will they make answer, saying, Lord, when did we see you in need of food or drink, or wandering, or without clothing, or ill, or in prison, and did not take care of you?

45.    τοτε αποκριθησεται αυτοις λεγων αμην λεγω υμιν εφ οσον ουκ εποιησατε ενι τουτων των ελαχιστων ουδε εμοι εποιησατε     Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.     "Then he will answer them, saying, 'Most certainly I tell you, inasmuch as you didn't do it to one of the least of these, you didn't do it to me.'     Then will he make answer to them, saying, Truly I say to you, Because you did it not to the least of these, you did it not to me.

46.    και απελευσονται ουτοι εις κολασιν αιωνιον οι δε δικαιοι εις ζωην αιωνιον     And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.     These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."     And these will go away into eternal punishment; but the upright into eternal life.
