1.    וידבר  יהוה  אל־משה 
לאמר׃
    And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,     Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,     And the Lord said to Moses,
 
2.    דבר  אל־בני  ישראל 
וישבו  ויחנו  לפני
פי  החירת  בין  מגדל
ובין  הים  לפני  בעל
צפן  נכחו  תחנו
על־הים׃
    Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, over against Baalzephon: before it shall ye encamp by the sea.     "Speak to the children of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal Zephon. You shall encamp opposite it by the sea.     Give orders to the children of Israel to go back and put up their tents before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, in front of Baal-zephon, opposite to which you are to put up your tents by the sea.
 
3.    ואמר  פרעה  לבני 
ישראל  נבכים  הם
בארץ  סגר  עליהם
המדבר׃
    For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in.     Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, 'They are entangled in the land. The wilderness has shut them in.'     And Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are wandering without direction, they are shut in by the waste land.
 
4.    וחזקתי  את־לב־פרעה 
ורדף  אחריהם
ואכבדה  בפרעה
ובכל־חילו  וידעו
מצרים  כי־אני  יהוה
ויעשו־כן׃
    And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so.     I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will follow after them; and I will get honor over Pharaoh, and over all his armies; and the Egyptians shall know that I am Yahweh." They did so.     And I will make Pharaoh's heart hard, and he will come after them and I will be honoured over Pharaoh and all his army, so that the Egyptians may see that I am the Lord. And they did so.
 
5.    ויגד  למלך  מצרים 
כי  ברח  העם  ויהפך
לבב  פרעה  ועבדיו
אל־העם  ויאמרו
מה־זאת  עשינו
כי־שלחנו  את־ישראל
מעבדנו׃
    And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?     It was told the king of Egypt that the people had fled; and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was changed towards the people, and they said, "What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?"     And word came to Pharaoh of the flight of the people: and the feeling of Pharaoh and of his servants about the people was changed, and they said, Why have we let Israel go, so that they will do no more work for us?
 
6.    ויאסר  את־רכבו 
ואת־עמו  לקח  עמו׃
    And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him:     He made ready his chariot, and took his army with him;     So he had his war-carriage made ready and took his people with him:
 
7.    ויקח  שש־מאות  רכב 
בחור  וכל  רכב
מצרים  ושלשם
על־כלו׃
    And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over every one of them.     and he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over all of them.     And he took six hundred carriages, all the carriages of Egypt, and captains over all of them.
 
8.    ויחזק  יהוה  את־לב 
פרעה  מלך  מצרים
וירדף  אחרי  בני
ישראל  ובני  ישראל
יצאים  ביד  רמה׃
    And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.     Yahweh hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel; for the children of Israel went out with a high hand.     And the Lord made the heart of Pharaoh hard, and he went after the children of Israel: for the children of Israel had gone out without fear.
 
9.    וירדפו  מצרים 
אחריהם  וישיגו
אותם  חנים  על־הים
כל־סוס  רכב  פרעה
ופרשיו  וחילו
על־פי  החירת  לפני
בעל  צפן׃
    But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon.     The Egyptians pursued after them: all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen, and his army; and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baal Zephon.     But the Egyptians went after them, all the horses and carriages of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them in their tents by the sea, by Pihahiroth, before Baal-zephon.
 
10.    ופרעה  הקריב  וישאו 
בני־ישראל
את־עיניהם  והנה
מצרים  נסע  אחריהם
וייראו  מאד  ויצעקו
בני־ישראל
אל־יהוה׃
    And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.     When Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were very afraid. The children of Israel cried out to Yahweh.     And when Pharaoh came near, the children of Israel, lifting up their eyes, saw the Egyptians coming after them, and were full of fear; and their cry went up to God.
 
11.    ויאמרו  אל־משה 
המבלי  אין־קברים
במצרים  לקחתנו
למות  במדבר  מה־
זאת  עשית  לנו
להוציאנו  ממצרים׃
    And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?     They said to Moses, "Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you treated us this way, to bring us forth out of Egypt?     And they said to Moses, Was there no resting-place for the dead in Egypt, that you have taken us away to come to our death in the waste land? why have you taken us out of Egypt?
 
12.    הלא־זה  הדבר  אשר 
דברנו  אליך  במצרים
לאמר  חדל  ממנו
ונעבדה  את־  מצרים
כי  טוב  לנו  עבד
את־מצרים  ממתנו
במדבר׃
    Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.     Isn't this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Leave us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians?' For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness."     Did we not say to you in Egypt, Let us be as we are, working for the Egyptians? for it is better to be the servants of the Egyptians than to come to our death in the waste land.
 
13.    ויאמר  משה  אל־העם 
אל־תיראו  התיצבו
וראו  את־ישועת
יהוה  אשר־יעשה  לכם
היום  כי  אשר  ראיתם
את־מצרים  היום  לא
תספו  לראתם  עוד
עד־עולם׃
    And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.     Moses said to the people, "Don't be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will work for you today: for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall never see them again.     But Moses said, Keep where you are and have no fear; now you will see the salvation of the Lord which he will give you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today you will never see again.
 
14.    יהוה  ילחם  לכם 
ואתם  תחרשון׃
    The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.     Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still."     The Lord will make war for you, you have only to keep quiet.
 
15.    ויאמר  יהוה  אל־משה 
מה־תצעק  אלי  דבר
אל־בני־ישראל
ויסעו׃
    And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:     Yahweh said to Moses, "Why do you cry to me? Speak to the children of Israel, that they go forward.     And the Lord said to Moses, Why are you crying out to me? give the children of Israel the order to go forward.
 
16.    ואתה  הרם  את־מטך 
ונטה  את־ידך
על־הים  ובקעהו
ויבאו  בני־ישראל
בתוך  הים  ביבשה׃
    But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.     Lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go into the midst of the sea on dry ground.     And let your rod be lifted up and your hand stretched out over the sea, and it will be parted in two; and the children of Israel will go through on dry land.
 
17.    ואני  הנני  מחזק 
את־לב  מצרים  ויבאו
אחריהם  ואכבדה
בפרעה  ובכל־  חילו
ברכבו  ובפרשיו׃
    And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.     I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall go in after them: and I will get myself honor over Pharaoh, and over all his armies, over his chariots, and over his horsemen.     And I will make the heart of the Egyptians hard, and they will go in after them: and I will be honoured over Pharaoh and over his army, his war-carriages, and his horsemen.
 
18.    וידעו  מצרים 
כי־אני  יהוה
בהכבדי  בפרעה
ברכבו  ובפרשיו׃
    And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.     The Egyptians shall know that I am Yahweh, when I have gotten myself honor over Pharaoh, over his chariots, and over his horsemen."     And the Egyptians will see that I am the Lord, when I get honour over Pharaoh and his war-carriages and his horsemen.
 
19.    ויסע  מלאך  האלהים 
ההלך  לפני  מחנה
ישראל  וילך
מאחריהם  ויסע  עמוד
הענן  מפניהם  ויעמד
מאחריהם׃
    And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:     The angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them, and stood behind them.     Then the angel of God, who had been before the tents of Israel, took his place at their back; and the pillar of cloud, moving from before them, came to rest at their back:
 
20.    ויבא  בין  מחנה 
מצרים  ובין  מחנה
ישראל  ויהי  הענן
והחשך  ויאר  את־
הלילה  ולא־קרב  זה
אל־זה  כל־הלילה׃
    And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.     It came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness, yet gave it light by night: and the one didn't come near the other all the night.     And it came between the army of Egypt and the army of Israel; and there was a dark cloud between them, and they went on through the night; but the one army came no nearer to the other all the night.
 
21.    ויט  משה  את־ידו 
על־הים  ויולך  יהוה
את־הים  ברוח  קדים
עזה  כל־  הלילה
וישם  את־הים  לחרבה
ויבקעו  המים׃
    And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.     Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all the night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.     And when Moses' hand was stretched out over the sea, the Lord with a strong east wind made the sea go back all night, and the waters were parted in two and the sea became dry land.
 
22.    ויבאו  בני־ישראל 
בתוך  הים  ביבשה
והמים  להם  חומה
מימינם  ומשמאלם׃
    And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.     The children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left.     And the children of Israel went through the sea on dry land: and the waters were a wall on their right side and on their left.
 
23.    וירדפו  מצרים 
ויבאו  אחריהם  כל
סוס  פרעה  רכבו
ופרשיו  אל־תוך
הים׃
    And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.     The Egyptians pursued, and went in after them into the midst of the sea: all of Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.     Then the Egyptians went after them into the middle of the sea, all Pharaoh's horses and his war-carriages and his horsemen.
 
24.    ויהי  באשמרת  הבקר 
וישקף  יהוה
אל־מחנה  מצרים
בעמוד  אש  וענן
ויהם  את  מחנה
מצרים׃
    And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,     It happened in the morning watch, that Yahweh looked out on the Egyptian army through the pillar of fire and of cloud, and confused the Egyptian army.     And in the morning watch, the Lord, looking out on the armies of the Egyptians from the pillar of fire and cloud, sent trouble on the army of the Egyptians;
 
25.    ויסר  את  אפן 
מרכבתיו  וינהגהו
בכבדת  ויאמר  מצרים
אנוסה  מפני  ישראל
כי  יהוה  נלחם  להם
במצרים׃
    And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.     He took off their chariot wheels, and they drove them heavily; so that the Egyptians said, "Let's flee from the face of Israel, for Yahweh fights for them against the Egyptians!"     And made the wheels of their war-carriages stiff, so that they had hard work driving them: so the Egyptians said, Let us go in flight from before the face of Israel, for the Lord is fighting for them against the Egyptians.
 
26.    ויאמר  יהוה  אל־משה 
נטה  את־ידך  על־הים
וישבו  המים
על־מצרים  על־  רכבו
ועל־פרשיו׃
    And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.     Yahweh said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again on the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen."     And the Lord said to Moses, Let your hand be stretched out over the sea, and the waters will come back again on the Egyptians, and on their war-carriages and on their horsemen.
 
27.    ויט  משה  את־ידו 
על־הים  וישב  הים
לפנות  בקר  לאיתנו
ומצרים  נסים
לקראתו  וינער  יהוה
את־מצרים  בתוך
הים׃
    And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.     Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it. Yahweh overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.     And when Moses' hand was stretched out over the sea, at dawn the sea came flowing back, meeting the Egyptians in their flight, and the Lord sent destruction on the Egyptians in the middle of the sea.
 
28.    וישבו  המים  ויכסו 
את־הרכב
ואת־הפרשים  לכל
חיל  פרעה  הבאים
אחריהם  בים
לא־נשאר  בהם
עד־אחד׃
    And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.     The waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even all Pharaoh's army that went in after them into the sea. There remained not so much as one of them.     And the waters came back, covering the war-carriages and the horsemen and all the army of Pharaoh which went after them into the middle of the sea; not one of them was to be seen.
 
29.    ובני  ישראל  הלכו 
ביבשה  בתוך  הים
והמים  להם  חמה
מימינם  ומשמאלם׃
    But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.     But the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left.     But the children of Israel went through the sea walking on dry land, and the waters were a wall on their right side and on their left.
 
30.    ויושע  יהוה  ביום 
ההוא  את־ישראל  מיד
מצרים  וירא  ישראל
את־מצרים  מת
על־שפת  הים׃
    Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.     Thus Yahweh saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore.     So that day the Lord gave Israel salvation from the hands of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the sea's edge.
 
31.    וירא  ישראל  את־היד 
הגדלה  אשר  עשה
יהוה  במצרים
וייראו  העם  את־
יהוה  ויאמינו
ביהוה  ובמשה  עבדו׃
    And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.     Israel saw the great work which Yahweh did to the Egyptians, and the people feared Yahweh; and they believed in Yahweh, and in his servant Moses.     And Israel saw the great work which the Lord had done against the Egyptians, and the fear of the Lord came on the people and they had faith in the Lord and in his servant Moses.
