ואל־משה אמר עלה אל־יהוה אתה ואהרן נדב ואביהוא ושבעים מזקני ישראל והשתחויתם מרחק׃ |

ונגש משה לבדו אל־יהוה והם לא יגשו והעם לא יעלו עמו׃ |
And Moses alone shall come near the LORD: but they shall not come nigh; neither shall the people go up with him. | Moses alone shall come near to Yahweh, but they shall not come near, neither shall the people go up with him." | And Moses only may come near to the Lord; but the others are not to come near, and the people may not come up with them. | |||

ויכתב משה את כל־דברי יהוה וישכם בבקר ויבן מזבח תחת ההר ושתים עשרה מצבה לשנים עשר שבטי ישראל׃ |

ויקח משה חצי הדם וישם באגנת וחצי הדם זרק על־המזבח׃ |

ויראו את אלהי ישראל ותחת רגליו כמעשה לבנת הספיר וכעצם השמים לטהר׃ |
And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness. | They saw the God of Israel. ואל־אצילי בני ישראל לא שלח ידו ויחזו את־האלהים ויאכלו וישתו׃ |
And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink. | He didn't lay his hand on the nobles of the children of Israel. They saw God, and ate and drank. | And he put not his hand on the chiefs of the children of Israel: they saw God, and took food and drink. | |||

ויאמר יהוה אל־משה עלה אלי ההרה והיה־שם ואתנה לך את־לחת האבן והתורה והמצוה אשר כתבתי להורתם׃ |
And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them. | Yahweh said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the tables of stone with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them." | And the Lord said to Moses, Come up to me on the mountain, and take your place there: and I will give you the stones on which I have put in writing the law and the orders, so that you may give the people knowledge of them. | |||

ויקם משה ויהושע משרתו ויעל משה אל־הר האלהים׃ |

And he said unto the elders, Tarry ye here for us, until we come again unto you: and, behold, Aaron and Hur are with you: if any man have any matters to do, let him come unto them. | He said to the elders, "Wait here for us, until we come again to you. Behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever is involved in a dispute can go to them." | And he said to the chiefs, Keep your places here till we come back to you: Aaron and Hur are with you; if anyone has any cause let him go to them. | |||

ויעל משה אל־ההר ויכס הענן את־ההר׃ |
