ויהי כאשר־תמו כל־הגוי לעבור את־הירדן ויאמר יהוה אל־יהושע לאמר׃ |
And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying, | It happened, when all the nation had completely passed over the Jordan, that Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying, | Now when all the nation had come to the other side of Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, | |||

קחו לכם מן־העם שנים עשר אנשים איש־אחד איש־אחד משבט׃ |
Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man, | "Take twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man, | Take twelve men from the people, a man for every tribe, | |||

וצוו אותם לאמר שאו־לכם מזה מתוך הירדן ממצב רגלי הכהנים הכין שתים־עשרה אבנים והעברתם אותם עמכם והנחתם אותם במלון אשר־תלינו בו הלילה׃ |
And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night. | and command them, saying, 'Take from out of the middle of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood firm, twelve stones, and carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging place, where you will lodge tonight.'" | And say to them, Take up from the middle of Jordan, from the place where the feet of the priests were resting, twelve stones, and take them over with you and put them down in the place where you take your rest tonight. | |||

ויקרא יהושע אל־שנים העשר איש אשר הכין מבני ישראל איש־אחד איש־ אחד משבט׃ |
Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man: | Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man. | So Joshua sent for the twelve men, whom he had ready, one man out of every tribe of the children of Israel, | |||

ויאמר להם יהושע עברו לפני ארון יהוה אלהיכם אל־תוך הירדן והרימו לכם איש אבן אחת על־שכמו למספר שבטי בני־ישראל׃ |
And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of Jordan, and take you up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel: | Joshua said to them, "Pass over before the ark of Yahweh your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you pick up a stone and put it on your shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; | And he said to them, Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of Jordan, and let every one of you take up a stone on his back, one for every tribe of the children of Israel: | |||

למען תהיה זאת אות בקרבכם כי־ישאלון בניכם מחר לאמר מה האבנים האלה לכם׃ |
That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones? | that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask in time to come, saying, 'What do you mean by these stones?' | So that this may be a sign among you; when your children say to you in time to come, What is the reason for these stones? | |||

ואמרתם להם אשר נכרתו מימי הירדן מפני ארון ברית־יהוה בעברו בירדן נכרתו מי הירדן והיו האבנים האלה לזכרון לבני ישראל עד־ עולם׃ |
Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever. | then you shall tell them, 'Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.'" | Then you will say to them, Because the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the Lord's agreement; when it went over Jordan the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones will be a sign for the children of Israel, keeping it in their memory for ever. | |||

ויעשו־כן בני־ישראל כאשר צוה יהושע וישאו שתי־עשרה אבנים מתוך הירדן כאשר דבר יהוה אל־יהושע למספר שבטי בני־ישראל ויעברום עמם אל־המלון וינחום שם׃ |
And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, as the LORD spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there. | The children of Israel did as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the middle of the Jordan, as Yahweh spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; and they carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there. | So the children of Israel did as Joshua gave them orders, and took twelve stones from the middle of Jordan, as the Lord had said to Joshua, one for every tribe of the children of Israel; these they took across with them to their night's resting-place and put them down there. | |||

ושתים עשרה אבנים הקים יהושע בתוך הירדן תחת מצב רגלי הכהנים נשאי ארון הברית ויהיו שם עד היום הזה׃ |

והכהנים נשאי הארון עמדים בתוך הירדן עד תם כל־הדבר אשר־צוה יהוה את־יהושע לדבר אל־העם ככל אשר־צוה משה את־יהושע וימהרו העם ויעברו׃ |
For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until everything was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over. | For the priests who bore the ark stood in the middle of the Jordan, until everything was finished that Yahweh commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua; and the people hurried and passed over. | For the priests who took up the ark kept there in the middle of Jordan till all the orders given to Joshua by Moses from the Lord had been done: then the people went over quickly. | |||

And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people. | It happened, when all the people had completely passed over, that the ark of Yahweh passed over, with the priests, in the presence of the people. | And when all the people had come to the other side, the ark of the Lord went over, and the priests, before the eyes of the people. | |||

ויעברו בני־ראובן ובני־גד וחצי שבט המנשה חמשים לפני בני ישראל כאשר דבר אליהם משה׃ |
And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spake unto them: | The children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spoke to them. | And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh went over armed before the children of Israel as Moses had said to them: | |||

כארבעים אלף חלוצי הצבא עברו לפני יהוה למלחמה אל ערבות יריחו׃ |
About forty thousand prepared for war passed over before the LORD unto battle, to the plains of Jericho. | About forty thousand men, ready and armed for war passed over before Yahweh to battle, to the plains of Jericho. | About forty thousand armed for war went over before the Lord to the fight, to the lowlands of Jericho. | |||

ביום ההוא גדל יהוה את־יהושע בעיני כל־ישראל ויראו אתו כאשר יראו את־משה כל־ימי חייו׃ |
On that day the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life. | On that day, Yahweh magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life. | That day the Lord made Joshua great in the eyes of all Israel; and all the days of his life they went in fear of him, as they had gone in fear of Moses. | |||

ויאמר יהוה אל־יהושע לאמר׃ |
And the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying, | Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying, | Then the Lord said to Joshua, | |||

צוה את־הכהנים נשאי ארון העדות ויעלו מן־הירדן׃ |
Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan. | "Command the priests who bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of the Jordan." | Give orders to the priests who take up the ark of witness, to come up out of Jordan. | |||

ויצו יהושע את־הכהנים לאמר עלו מן־הירדן׃ |
Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of Jordan. | Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, "Come up out of the Jordan!" | So Joshua gave orders to the priests, saying, Come up now out of Jordan. | |||

ויהי בעלות הכהנים נשאי ארון ברית־יהוה מתוך הירדן נתקו כפות רגלי הכהנים אל החרבה וישבו מי־הירדן למקומם וילכו כתמול־שלשום על־ כל־גדותיו׃ |
And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before. | It happened, when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of Yahweh had come up out of the middle of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up to the dry ground, that the waters of the Jordan returned to their place, and went over all its banks, as before. | And when the priests who took up the ark of the Lord's agreement came up out of Jordan and their feet came out on to dry land, the waters of Jordan went back to their place, overflowing its edges as before. | |||

והעם עלו מן־הירדן בעשור לחדש הראשון ויחנו בגלגל בקצה מזרח יריחו׃ |
And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho. | The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Jericho. | So on the tenth day of the first month the people came up out of Jordan, and put up their tents in Gilgal, on the east side of Jericho. | |||

ואת שתים עשרה האבנים האלה אשר לקחו מן־הירדן הקים יהושע בגלגל׃ |
And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal. | Joshua set up those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, in Gilgal. | And the twelve stones which they took out of Jordan, Joshua put up in Gilgal. | |||

ויאמר אל־בני ישראל לאמר אשר ישאלון בניכם מחר את־אבותם לאמר מה האבנים האלה׃ |
And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones? | He spoke to the children of Israel, saying, "When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, 'What do these stones mean?' | And he said to the children of Israel, When your children say to their fathers in time to come, What is the reason for these stones? | |||

והודעתם את־בניכם לאמר ביבשה עבר ישראל את־הירדן הזה׃ |
Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. | Then you shall let your children know, saying, 'Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. | Then give your children the story, and say, Israel came over this river Jordan on dry land. | |||

אשר־הוביש יהוה אלהיכם את־מי הירדן מפניכם עד־עברכם כאשר עשה יהוה אלהיכם לים־סוף אשר־הוביש מפנינו עד־עברנו׃ |
For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over: | For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you, until you had passed over, as Yahweh your God did to the Red Sea{or, Sea of Reeds}, which he dried up from before us, until we had passed over; | For the Lord your God made the waters of Jordan dry before you till you had gone across, as he did to the Red Sea, drying it up before us till we had gone across: | |||

למען דעת כל־עמי הארץ את־יד יהוה כי חזקה היא למען יראתם את־ יהוה אלהיכם כל־הימים׃ |
That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever. | that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of Yahweh, that it is mighty; that you may fear Yahweh your God forever.'" | So that all the peoples of the earth may see that the hand of the Lord is strong; and that they may go in fear of the Lord your God for ever. | |||
