1. | {A Song of Ascents.} When Yahweh brought back those who returned to Zion, we were like those who dream. |
A Song of the going up. When the Lord made a change in Zion's fate, we were like men in a dream. |
When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.
2. | Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, "Yahweh has done great things for them." | Then our mouths were full of laughing, and our tongues gave a glad cry; they said among the nations, The Lord has done great things for them. | Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.
3. | Yahweh has done great things for us, and we are glad. | The Lord has done great things for us; because of which we are glad. | The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.
4. | Restore our fortunes again, Yahweh, like the streams in the Negev. | Let our fate be changed, O Lord, like the streams in the South. | Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south.
5. | Those who sow in tears will reap in joy. | Those who put in seed with weeping will get in the grain with cries of joy. | They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
6. | He who goes out weeping, carrying seed for sowing, will certainly come again with joy, carrying his sheaves. | Though a man may go out weeping, taking his vessel of seed with him; he will come again in joy, with the corded stems of grain in his arms. | He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
