1.    Then Jonah prayed to Yahweh, his God, out of the fish's belly.     Then Jonah made prayer to the Lord his God from the inside of the fish, and said,     Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,

2.    He said, "I called because of my affliction to Yahweh. He answered me. Out of the belly of Sheol{Sheol is the place of the dead.} I cried. You heard my voice.     In my trouble I was crying to the Lord, and he gave me an answer; out of the deepest underworld I sent up a cry, and you gave ear to my voice.     And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

3.    For you threw me into the depths, in the heart of the seas. The flood was all around me. All your waves and your billows passed over me.     For you have put me down into the deep, into the heart of the sea; and the river was round about me; all your waves and your rolling waters went over me.     For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

4.    I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.'     And I said, I have been sent away from before your eyes; how may I ever again see your holy Temple?     Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

5.    The waters surrounded me, even to the soul. The deep was around me. The weeds were wrapped around my head.     The waters were circling round me, even to the neck; the deep was about me; the sea-grass was twisted round my head.     The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

6.    I went down to the bottoms of the mountains. The earth barred me in forever: yet have you brought up my life from the pit, Yahweh my God.     I went down to the bases of the mountains; as for the earth, her walls were about me for ever: but you have taken up my life from the underworld, O Lord my God.     I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

7.    "When my soul fainted within me, I remembered Yahweh. My prayer came in to you, into your holy temple.     When my soul in me was overcome, I kept the memory of the Lord: and my prayer came in to you, into your holy Temple.     When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

8.    Those who regard lying vanities forsake their own mercy.     The worshippers of false gods have given up their only hope.     They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

9.    But I will sacrifice to you with the voice of thanksgiving. I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation belongs to Yahweh."     But I will make an offering to you with the voice of praise; I will give effect to my oaths. Salvation is the Lord's.     But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

10.    Yahweh spoke to the fish, and it vomited out Jonah on the dry land.     And at the Lord's order, the fish sent Jonah out of its mouth on to the dry land.     And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
