1.    Again the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying, "Go, number Israel and Judah."     And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.     ויסף  אף־יהוה

    VYSPh 'aPh-YHVH LChUrVTh BYShUr'aL VYSTh 'aTh-DVD BHM L'aMUr LK MNH 'aTh- YShUr'aL V'aTh-YHVDH.     And the anger of Jehovah addeth to burn against Israel, and an adversary moveth David about them, saying, `Go, number Israel and Judah.`     et addidit furor Domini irasci contra Israhel commovitque David in eis dicentem vade numera Israhel et Iudam
 
2.    The king said to Joab the captain of the army, who was with him, "Now go back and forth through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number the people, that I may know the sum of the people."     For the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people.     ויאמר  המלך

וידעתי  את  מספר

    VY'aMUr HMLK 'aL-YV'aB ShUr-HChYL 'aShUr-'aThV ShVT-N'a BKL-ShBTY YShUr'aL MDN V'yD-B'aUr ShB'y VPhQDV 'aTh-H'yM VYD'yThY 'aTh MSPhUr H'yM.     And the king saith unto Joab, head of the host that is with him, `Go to and fro, I pray thee, through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, and inspect ye the people -- and I have known the number of the people.`     dixitque rex ad Ioab principem exercitus sui perambula omnes tribus Israhel a Dan usque Bersabee et numerate populum ut sciam numerum eius
 
3.    Joab said to the king, "Now may Yahweh your God add to the people, however many they may be, one hundred times; and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king delight in this thing?"     And Joab said unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people, how many soever they be, an hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?     ויאמר  יואב 
אל־המלך  ויוסף
יהוה  אלהיך  אל־העם
כהם  וכהם  מאה
פעמים  ועיני
אדני־המלך  ראות
ואדני  המלך  למה
חפץ  בדבר  הזה׃
    VY'aMUr YV'aB 'aL-HMLK VYVSPh YHVH 'aLHYK 'aL-H'yM KHM VKHM M'aH Ph'yMYM V'yYNY 'aDNY-HMLK Ur'aVTh V'aDNY HMLK LMH ChPhTSh BDBUr HZH.     And Joab saith unto the king, `Yea, Jehovah thy God doth add unto the people, as they are, a hundred times, and the eyes of my lord the king are seeing; and my lord the king, why is he desirous of this thing?`     dixitque Ioab regi adaugeat Dominus Deus tuus ad populum quantus nunc est iterumque centuplicet in conspectu domini mei regis sed quid sibi dominus meus rex vult in re huiuscemodi
 
4.    Notwithstanding, the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the army. Joab and the captains of the army went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.     Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host.     VYChZQ DBUr-HMLK 'aL-YV'aB V'yL ShUrY HChYL VYTSh'a YV'aB VShUrY HChYL LPhNY HMLK LPhQD 'aTh-H'yM 'aTh-YShUr'aL.     And the word of the king is severe towards Joab, and against the heads of the force, and Joab goeth out, and the heads of the force, from before the king to inspect the people, even Israel;     obtinuit autem sermo regis verba Ioab et principum exercitus egressusque est Ioab et principes militum a facie regis ut numerarent populum Israhel
 
5.    They passed over the Jordan, and encamped in Aroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad, and to Jazer:     And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lieth in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer:     ויעברו  את־הירדן 
ויחנו  בערוער  ימין

ואל־  יעזר׃
    VY'yBUrV 'aTh-HYUrDN VYChNV B'yUrV'yUr YMYN H'yYUr 'aShUr BThVK-HNChL HGD V'aL- Y'yZUr.     and they pass over the Jordan, and encamp in Aroer, on the right of the city that is in the midst of the brook of Gad, and unto Jazer,     cumque pertransissent Iordanem venerunt in Aroer ad dextram urbis quae est in valle Gad
 
6.    then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim Hodshi; and they came to Dan Jaan, and around to Sidon,     Then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtimhodshi; and they came to Danjaan, and about to Zidon,     ויבאו  הגלעדה

    VYB'aV HGL'yDH V'aL-'aUrTSh ThChThYM ChDShY VYB'aV DNH Y'yN VSBYB 'aL-TShYDVN.     and they come in to Gilead, and unto the land of Tahtim-Hodshi, and they come in to Dan-Jaan, and round about unto Zidon,     et per Iazer transierunt in Galaad et in terram inferiorem Hodsi et venerunt in Dan silvestria circumeuntesque iuxta Sidonem
 
7.    and came to the stronghold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites; and they went out to the south of Judah, at Beersheba.     And came to the strong hold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites: and they went out to the south of Judah, even to Beersheba.     ויבאו  מבצר־צר

    VYB'aV MBTShUr-TShUr VKL-'yUrY HChVY VHKN'yNY VYTSh'aV 'aL-NGB YHVDH B'aUr ShB'y.     and they come in to the fortress of Tyre, and all the cities of the Hivite, and of the Canaanite, and go out unto the south of Judah, to Beer-Sheba.     transierunt propter moenia Tyri et omnem terram Hevei et Chananei veneruntque ad meridiem Iuda in Bersabee

9.    Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people to the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.     And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.     ויתן  יואב  את־מספר

10.    David's heart struck him after that he had numbered the people. David said to Yahweh, "I have sinned greatly in that which I have done. But now, Yahweh, put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly."     And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.     ויך  לב־דוד  אתו 
אחרי־כן  ספר
את־העם  ויאמר  דוד
אל־יהוה  חטאתי  מאד
אשר  עשיתי  ועתה

את־עון  עבדך  כי

    VYK LB-DVD 'aThV 'aChUrY-KN SPhUr 'aTh-H'yM VY'aMUr DVD 'aL-YHVH ChT'aThY M'aD 'aShUr 'yShYThY V'yThH YHVH H'yBUr-N'a 'aTh-'yVN 'yBDK KY NSKLThY M'aD.     And the heart of David smiteth him, after that he hath numbered the people, and David saith unto Jehovah, `I have sinned greatly in that which I have done, and now, O Jehovah, cause to pass away, I pray Thee, the iniquity of Thy servant, for I have acted very foolishly.`     percussit autem cor David eum postquam numeratus est populus et dixit David ad Dominum peccavi valde in hoc facto sed precor Domine ut transferas iniquitatem servi tui quia stulte egi nimis
 
11.    When David rose up in the morning, the word of Yahweh came to the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,     For when David was up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,     ויקם  דוד  בבקר 
ודבר־יהוה  היה
אל־גד  הנביא  חזה
דוד  לאמר׃
    VYQM DVD BBQUr VDBUr-YHVH HYH 'aL-GD HNBY'a ChZH DVD L'aMUr.     And David riseth in the morning, and the word of Jehovah hath been unto Gad the prophet, seer of David, saying,     surrexit itaque David mane et sermo Domini factus est ad Gad propheten et videntem David dicens
 
12.    "Go and speak to David, 'Thus says Yahweh, "I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you."'"     Go and say unto David, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.     הלוך  ודברת  אל־דוד 
כה  אמר  יהוה  שלש
אנכי  נוטל  עליך
בחר־לך  אחת־  מהם
ואעשה־לך׃
    HLVK VDBUrTh 'aL-DVD KH 'aMUr YHVH ShLSh 'aNKY NVTL 'yLYK BChUr-LK 'aChTh- MHM V'a'yShH-LK.     `Go, and thou hast spoken unto David, Thus said Jehovah: Three -- I am lifting up for thee, choose thee one of them, and I do it to thee.`     vade et loquere ad David haec dicit Dominus trium tibi datur optio elige unum quod volueris ex his ut faciam tibi
 
13.    So Gad came to David, and told him, and said to him, "Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days' pestilence in your land? Now answer, and consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me."     So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.     ויבא־גד  אל־דוד 
ויגד־לו  ויאמר  לו
התבוא  לך  שבע  שנים
רעב  בארצך  אם־שלשה
חדשים  נסך
לפני־צריך  והוא
רדפך  ואם־היות
שלשת  ימים  דבר
בארצך  עתה  דע  וראה
מה־אשיב  שלחי  דבר׃
    VYB'a-GD 'aL-DVD VYGD-LV VY'aMUr LV HThBV'a LK ShB'y ShNYM Ur'yB B'aUrTShK 'aM-ShLShH ChDShYM NSK LPhNY-TShUrYK VHV'a UrDPhK V'aM-HYVTh ShLShTh YMYM DBUr B'aUrTShK 'yThH D'y VUr'aH MH-'aShYB ShLChY DBUr.     And Gad cometh in unto David, and declareth to him, and saith to him, `Do seven years of famine come in to thee in thy land? or three months art thou fleeing before thine adversary -- and he pursuing thee? or are three days` pestilence in thy land? now, know and see what word I take back to Him sending me.`     cumque venisset Gad ad David nuntiavit ei dicens aut septem annis veniet tibi fames in terra tua aut tribus mensibus fugies adversarios tuos et illi persequentur aut certe tribus diebus erit pestilentia in terra tua nunc ergo delibera et vide quem respondeam ei qui me misit sermonem
 
14.    David said to Gad, "I am in distress. Let us fall now into the hand of Yahweh; for his mercies are great. Let me not fall into the hand of man."     And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.     ויאמר  דוד  אל־גד 
צר־לי  מאד  נפלה־נא
ביד־יהוה  כי־רבים
רחמו  וביד־  אדם
אל־אפלה׃
    VY'aMUr DVD 'aL-GD TShUr-LY M'aD NPhLH-N'a BYD-YHVH KY-UrBYM UrChMV VBYD- 'aDM 'aL-'aPhLH.     And David saith unto Gad, `I have great distress, let us fall, I pray thee, into the hand of Jehovah, for many are His mercies, and into the hand of man let me not fall.`     dixit autem David ad Gad artor nimis sed melius est ut incidam in manu Domini multae enim misericordiae eius sunt quam in manu hominis
 
15.    So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning even to the appointed time; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.     So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.     ויתן  יהוה  דבר 
בישראל  מהבקר
ועד־עת  מועד  וימת
מן־העם  מדן  ועד־
באר  שבע  שבעים  אלף
איש׃
    VYThN YHVH DBUr BYShUr'aL MHBQUr V'yD-'yTh MV'yD VYMTh MN-H'yM MDN V'yD- B'aUr ShB'y ShB'yYM 'aLPh 'aYSh.     And Jehovah giveth a pestilence on Israel from the morning even unto the time appointed, and there die of the people, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, seventy thousand men,     inmisitque Dominus pestilentiam in Israhel de mane usque ad tempus constitutum et mortui sunt ex populo a Dan usque Bersabee septuaginta milia virorum
 
16.    When the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Yahweh relented of the disaster, and said to the angel who destroyed the people, "It is enough. Now stay your hand." The angel of Yahweh was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.     And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.     וישלח  ידו  המלאך 
ירושלם  לשחתה
וינחם  יהוה
אל־הרעה  ויאמר
למלאך  המשחית  בעם
רב  עתה  הרף  ידך

    VYShLCh YDV HML'aK YUrVShLM LShChThH VYNChM YHVH 'aL-HUr'yH VY'aMUr LML'aK HMShChYTh B'yM UrB 'yThH HUrPh YDK VML'aK YHVH HYH 'yM-GUrN H'aVUrNH HYBSY.     and the messenger putteth forth his hand to Jerusalem to destroy it, and Jehovah repenteth concerning the evil, and saith to the messenger who is destroying among the people, `Enough, now, cease thy hand;` and the messenger of Jehovah was near the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.     cumque extendisset manum angelus Dei super Hierusalem ut disperderet eam misertus est Dominus super adflictione et ait angelo percutienti populum sufficit nunc contine manum tuam erat autem angelus Domini iuxta aream Areuna Iebusei
 
17.    David spoke to Yahweh when he saw the angel who struck the people, and said, "Behold, I have sinned, and I have done perversely; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand be against me, and against my father's house."     And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house.     ויאמר  דוד  אל־יהוה 
בראתו  את־המלאך
המכה  בעם  ויאמר
הנה  אנכי  חטאתי
ואנכי  העויתי  ואלה
הצאן  מה  עשו  תהי
נא  ידך  בי  ובבית
אבי׃
    VY'aMUr DVD 'aL-YHVH BUr'aThV 'aTh-HML'aK HMKH B'yM VY'aMUr HNH 'aNKY ChT'aThY V'aNKY H'yVYThY V'aLH HTSh'aN MH 'yShV ThHY N'a YDK BY VBBYTh 'aBY.     And David speaketh unto Jehovah, when he seeth the messenger who is smiting among the people, and saith, `Lo, I have sinned, yea, I have done perversely; and these -- the flock -- what have they done? Let, I pray Thee, Thy hand be on me, and on the house of my father.`     dixitque David ad Dominum cum vidisset angelum caedentem populum ego sum qui peccavi ego inique egi isti qui oves sunt quid fecerunt vertatur obsecro manus tua contra me et contra domum patris mei
 
18.    Gad came that day to David, and said to him, "Go up, build an altar to Yahweh on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite."     And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.     ויבא־גד  אל־דוד 
ביום  ההוא  ויאמר
לו  עלה  הקם  ליהוה
מזבח  בגרן  ארניה
היבסי׃
    VYB'a-GD 'aL-DVD BYVM HHV'a VY'aMUr LV 'yLH HQM LYHVH MZBCh BGUrN 'aUrNYH HYBSY.     And Gad cometh in unto David on that day, and saith to him, `Go up, raise to Jehovah an altar in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite;`     venit autem Gad ad David in die illa et dixit ei ascende constitue Domino altare in area Areuna Iebusei
 
19.    David went up according to the saying of Gad, as Yahweh commanded.     And David, according to the saying of Gad, went up as the LORD commanded.     ויעל  דוד  כדבר־גד 
כאשר  צוה  יהוה׃
    VY'yL DVD KDBUr-GD K'aShUr TShVH YHVH.     and David goeth up, according to the word of Gad, as Jehovah commanded.     et ascendit David iuxta sermonem Gad quem praeceperat ei Dominus
 
20.    Araunah looked out, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him. Then Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.     And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground.     וישקף  ארונה  וירא 
את־המלך  ואת־עבדיו
עברים  עליו  ויצא
ארונה  וישתחו  למלך
אפיו  ארצה׃
    VYShQPh 'aUrVNH VYUr'a 'aTh-HMLK V'aTh-'yBDYV 'yBUrYM 'yLYV VYTSh'a 'aUrVNH VYShThChV LMLK 'aPhYV 'aUrTShH.     And Araunah looketh, and seeth the king and his servants passing over unto him, and Araunah goeth out and boweth himself to the king -- his face to the earth.     conspiciensque Areuna animadvertit regem et servos eius transire ad se
 
21.    Araunah said, "Why has my lord the king come to his servant?" David said, "To buy your threshing floor, to build an altar to Yahweh, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people."     And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.     ויאמר  ארונה  מדוע 
בא  אדני־המלך
אל־עבדו  ויאמר  דוד
לקנות  מעמך
את־הגרן  לבנות
מזבח  ליהוה  ותעצר
המגפה  מעל  העם׃
    VY'aMUr 'aUrVNH MDV'y B'a 'aDNY-HMLK 'aL-'yBDV VY'aMUr DVD LQNVTh M'yMK 'aTh-HGUrN LBNVTh MZBCh LYHVH VTh'yTShUr HMGPhH M'yL H'yM.     And Araunah saith, `Wherefore hath my lord the king come unto his servant?` and David saith, `To buy from thee the threshing-floor, to build an altar to Jehovah, and the plague is restrained from the people.`     et egressus adoravit regem prono vultu in terra et ait quid causae est ut veniat dominus meus rex ad servum suum cui David ait ut emam a te aream et aedificem altare Domino et cesset interfectio quae grassatur in populo
 
22.    Araunah said to David, "Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good to him. Behold, the cattle for the burnt offering, and the threshing instruments and the yokes of the oxen for the wood:     And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, here be oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood.     ויאמר  ארונה 
אל־דוד  יקח  ויעל
אדני  המלך  הטוב
בעינו  ראה  הבקר
לעלה  והמרגים  וכלי
הבקר  לעצים׃
    VY'aMUr 'aUrVNH 'aL-DVD YQCh VY'yL 'aDNY HMLK HTVB B'yYNV Ur'aH HBQUr L'yLH VHMUrGYM VKLY HBQUr L'yTShYM.     And Araunah saith unto David, `Let my lord the king take and cause to ascend that which is good in his eyes; see, the oxen for a burnt-offering, and the threshing instruments, and the instruments of the oxen, for wood;`     et ait Areuna ad David accipiat et offerat dominus meus rex sicut ei placet habes boves in holocaustum et plaustrum et iuga boum in usum lignorum
 
23.    all this, king, does Araunah give to the king." Araunah said to the king, "May Yahweh your God accept you."     All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, The LORD thy God accept thee.     הכל  נתן  ארונה

יהוה  אלהיך  ירצך׃
    HKL NThN 'aUrVNH HMLK LMLK VY'aMUr 'aUrVNH 'aL-HMLK YHVH 'aLHYK YUrTShK.     the whole hath Araunah given, as a king to a king; and Araunah saith unto the king, `Jehovah thy God doth accept thee.`     omnia dedit Areuna rex regi dixitque Areuna ad regem Dominus Deus tuus suscipiat votum tuum
 
24.    The king said to Araunah, "No; but I will most certainly buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to Yahweh my God which cost me nothing." So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.     And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.     ויאמר  המלך 
אל־ארונה  לא
כי־קנו  אקנה  מאותך
במחיר  ולא  אעלה
ליהוה  אלהי  עלות
חנם  ויקן  דוד
את־הגרן  ואת־הבקר
בכסף  שקלים  חמשים׃
