1.    When [Ishbosheth], Saul's son, heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands became feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled.     And when Saul's son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands were feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled.     וישמע  בן־שאול  כי

    VYShM'y BN-Sh'aVL KY MTh 'aBNUr BChBUrVN VYUrPhV YDYV VKL-YShUr'aL NBHLV.     And the son of Saul heareth that Abner is dead in Hebron, and his hands are feeble, and all Israel have been troubled.     audivit autem filius Saul quod cecidisset Abner in Hebron et dissolutae sunt manus eius omnisque Israhel perturbatus est
 
2.    [Ishbosheth], Saul's son, [had] two men who were captains of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin (for Beeroth also is reckoned to Benjamin:     And Saul's son had two men that were captains of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon a Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin: (for Beeroth also was reckoned to Benjamin.     ושני  אנשים

    VShNY 'aNShYM ShUrY-GDVDYM HYV BN-Sh'aVL ShM H'aChD B'yNH VShM HShNY UrKB BNY UrMVN HB'aUrThY MBNY BNYMN KY GM-B'aUrVTh ThChShB 'yL-BNYMN.     And two men, heads of troops, have been to the son of Saul, the name of the one is Baanah, and the name of the second Rechab, sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, of the sons of Benjamin, for also Beeroth is reckoned to Benjamin,     duo autem viri principes latronum erant filio Saul nomen uni Baana et nomen alteri Rechab filii Remmon Berothitae de filiis Beniamin siquidem et Beroth reputata est in Beniamin
 
3.    and the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and have lived as foreigners there until this day).     And the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and were sojourners there until this day.)     ויברחו  הבארתים

4.    Now Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son who was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the news came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel; and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it happened, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. His name was Mephibosheth.     And Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son that was lame of his feet.     VLYHVNThN BN-Sh'aVL BN NKH UrGLYM BN-ChMSh ShNYM HYH BB'a ShM'yTh Sh'aVL VYHVNThN MYZUr'y'aL VThSh'aHV 'aMNThV VThNS VYHY BChPhZH LNVS VYPhL VYPhSCh VShMV MPhYBShTh.     And to Jonathan son of Saul is a son -- lame; he was a son of five years at the coming in of the rumour of the death of Saul and Jonathan, out of Jezreel, and his nurse lifteth him up, and fleeth, and it cometh to pass in her hasting to flee, that he falleth, and becometh lame, and his name is Mephibosheth.     erat autem Ionathan filio Saul filius debilis pedibus quinquennis enim fuit quando venit nuntius de Saul et Ionathan ex Iezrahel tollens itaque eum nutrix sua fugit cumque festinaret ut fugeret cecidit et claudus effectus est habuitque vocabulum Mifiboseth
 
5.    The sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of Ishbosheth, as he took his rest at noon.     And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of Ishbosheth, who lay on a bed at noon.     וילכו  בני־רמון 
הבארתי  רכב  ובענה

    VYLKV BNY-UrMVN HB'aUrThY UrKB VB'yNH VYB'aV KChM HYVM 'aL-BYTh 'aYSh BShTh VHV'a ShKB 'aTh MShKB HTShHUrYM.     And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, go, and come in at the heat of the day unto the house of Ish-Bosheth, and he is lying down -- the lying down of noon;     venientes igitur filii Remmon Berothitae Rechab et Baana ingressi sunt fervente die domum Hisboseth qui dormiebat super stratum suum meridie
 
6.    They came there into the midst of the house, as though they would have fetched wheat; and they struck him in the body: and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.     And they came thither into the midst of the house, as though they would have fetched wheat; and they smote him under the fifth rib: and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.     והנה  באו  עד־תוך 
הבית  לקחי  חטים
ויכהו  אל־החמש
ורכב  ובענה  אחיו
נמלטו׃
    VHNH B'aV 'yD-ThVK HBYTh LQChY ChTYM VYKHV 'aL-HChMSh VUrKB VB'yNH 'aChYV NMLTV.     and thither they have come, unto the midst of the house, taking wheat, and they smite him unto the fifth rib, and Rechab and Baanah his brother have escaped;     ingressi sunt autem domum adsumentes spicas tritici et percusserunt eum in inguine Rechab et Baana frater eius et fugerunt
 
7.    Now when they came into the house, as he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, they struck him, and killed him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and went by the way of the Arabah all night.     For when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all night.     ויבאו  הבית

בחדר  משכבו  ויכהו
וימתהו  ויסירו  את־
ראשו  ויקחו

הערבה  כל־הלילה׃
    VYB'aV HBYTh VHV'a-ShKB 'yL-MTThV BChDUr MShKBV VYKHV VYMThHV VYSYUrV 'aTh- Ur'aShV VYQChV 'aTh-Ur'aShV VYLKV DUrK H'yUrBH KL-HLYLH.     yea, they come in to the house, and he is lying on his bed, in the inner part of his bed-chamber, and they smite him, and put him to death, and turn aside his head, and they take his head, and go the way of the plain all the night,     cum autem ingressi fuissent domum ille dormiebat super lectulum suum in conclavi et percutientes interfecerunt eum sublatoque capite eius abierunt per viam deserti tota nocte
 
8.    They brought the head of Ishbosheth to David to Hebron, and said to the king, "Behold, the head of Ishbosheth, the son of Saul, your enemy, who sought your life! Yahweh has avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed."     And they brought the head of Ishbosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king, Behold the head of Ishbosheth the son of Saul thine enemy, which sought thy life; and the LORD hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.     ויבאו  את־ראש 
איש־בשת  אל־דוד
חברון  ויאמרו
אל־המלך  הנה־ראש
איש־  בשת  בן־שאול
איבך  אשר  בקש
את־נפשך  ויתן  יהוה
לאדני  המלך  נקמות
היום  הזה  משאול
ומזרעו׃
    VYB'aV 'aTh-Ur'aSh 'aYSh-BShTh 'aL-DVD ChBUrVN VY'aMUrV 'aL-HMLK HNH-Ur'aSh 'aYSh- BShTh BN-Sh'aVL 'aYBK 'aShUr BQSh 'aTh-NPhShK VYThN YHVH L'aDNY HMLK NQMVTh HYVM HZH MSh'aVL VMZUr'yV.     and bring in the head of Ish-Bosheth unto David in Hebron, and say unto the king, `Lo, the head of Ish-Bosheth, son of Saul, thine enemy, who sought thy life; and Jehovah doth give to my lord the king vengeance this day, of Saul and of his seed.`     et adtulerunt caput Hisboseth ad David in Hebron dixeruntque ad regem ecce caput Hisboseth filii Saul inimici tui qui quaerebat animam tuam et dedit Dominus domino meo regi ultiones hodie de Saul et de semine eius
 
9.    David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, "As Yahweh lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity,     And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said unto them, As the LORD liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity,     ויען  דוד  את־רכב 
ואת־בענה  אחיו  בני
רמון  הבארתי  ויאמר
להם  חי־  יהוה
אשר־פדה  את־נפשי
מכל־צרה׃
    VY'yN DVD 'aTh-UrKB V'aTh-B'yNH 'aChYV BNY UrMVN HB'aUrThY VY'aMUr LHM ChY- YHVH 'aShUr-PhDH 'aTh-NPhShY MKL-TShUrH.     And David answereth Rechab and Baanah his brother, sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and saith to them, `Jehovah liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity,     respondens autem David Rechab et Baana fratri eius filiis Remmon Berothei dixit ad eos vivit Dominus qui eruit animam meam de omni angustia
 
10.    when someone told me, 'Behold, Saul is dead,' thinking to have brought good news, I took hold of him, and killed him in Ziklag, which was the reward I gave him for his news.     When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his tidings:     כי  המגיד  לי  לאמר

ואהרגהו  בצקלג  אשר
לתתי־לו  בשרה׃
    KY HMGYD LY L'aMUr HNH-MTh Sh'aVL VHV'a-HYH KMBShUr B'yYNYV V'aChZH BV V'aHUrGHV BTShQLG 'aShUr LThThY-LV BShUrH.     when one is declaring to me, saying, Lo, Saul is dead, and he was as a bearer of tidings in his own eyes, then I take hold on him, and slay him in Ziklag, instead of my giving to him for the tidings.     quoniam eum qui adnuntiaverat mihi et dixerat mortuus est Saul qui putabat se prospera nuntiare tenui et occidi in Siceleg cui oportebat me dare mercedem pro nuntio
 
11.    How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house on his bed, shall I not now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?"     How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?     אף  כי־אנשים  רשעים 
הרגו  את־איש־צדיק
בביתו  על־משכבו
ועתה  הלוא  אבקש
את־דמו  מידכם
ובערתי  אתכם
מן־הארץ׃
    'aPh KY-'aNShYM UrSh'yYM HUrGV 'aTh-'aYSh-TShDYQ BBYThV 'yL-MShKBV V'yThH HLV'a 'aBQSh 'aTh-DMV MYDKM VB'yUrThY 'aThKM MN-H'aUrTSh.     Also -- when wicked men have slain the righteous man in his own house, on his bed; and now, do not I require his blood of your hand, and have taken you away from the earth?`     quanto magis nunc cum homines impii interfecerint virum innoxium in domo sua super lectulum suum non quaeram sanguinem eius de manu vestra et auferam vos de terra
 
12.    David commanded his young men, and they killed them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up beside the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth, and buried it in the grave of Abner in Hebron.     And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron.
