    VYHY KShM'y HMLK ChZQYHV VYQUr'y 'aTh-BGDYV VYThKS BShQ VYB'a BYTh YHVH.     And it cometh to pass, at king Hezekiah`s hearing, that he rendeth his garments, and covereth himself with sackcloth, and entereth the house of Jehovah,     quae cum audisset rex Ezechias scidit vestimenta sua et opertus est sacco ingressusque est domum Domini

    VYShLCh 'aTh-'aLYQYM 'aShUr-'yL-HBYTh VShBN'a HSPhUr V'aTh ZQNY HKHNYM MThKSYM BShQYM 'aL-YSh'yYHV HNBY'a BN-'aMVTSh.     and sendeth Eliakim, who is over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covering themselves with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet, son of Amoz,     et misit Eliachim praepositum domus et Sobnam scribam et senes de sacerdotibus opertos saccis ad Esaiam prophetam filium Amos
 
3.    They said to him, "Thus says Hezekiah, 'This day is a day of trouble, of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to deliver them.     And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and blasphemy; for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.     ויאמרו  אליו  כה 
אמר  חזקיהו
יום־צרה  ותוכחה
ונאצה  היום  הזה  כי
באו  בנים  עד־משבר
וכח  אין  ללדה׃
    VY'aMUrV 'aLYV KH 'aMUr ChZQYHV YVM-TShUrH VThVKChH VN'aTShH HYVM HZH KY B'aV BNYM 'yD-MShBUr VKCh 'aYN LLDH.     and they say unto him, `Thus said Hezekiah -- A day of distress, and rebuke, and despising is this day; for come have sons unto the birth, and power there is not to bring forth.     qui dixerunt haec dicit Ezechias dies tribulationis et increpationis et blasphemiae dies iste venerunt filii usque ad partum et vires non habet parturiens
 
4.    It may be Yahweh your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which Yahweh your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.'"     It may be the LORD thy God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that are left.     אולי  ישמע  יהוה

    VYB'aV 'yBDY HMLK ChZQYHV 'aL-YSh'yYHV.     And the servants of king Hezekiah come in unto Isaiah,     venerunt ergo servi regis Ezechiae ad Esaiam
 
6.    Isaiah said to them, "Thus you shall tell your master, 'Thus says Yahweh, "Don't be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.     And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.     ויאמר  להם  ישעיהו 
כה  תאמרון
אל־אדניכם  כה  אמר
יהוה  אל־תירא  מפני
הדברים  אשר  שמעת
אשר  גדפו  נערי
מלך־אשור  אתי׃
    VY'aMUr LHM YSh'yYHV KH Th'aMUrVN 'aL-'aDNYKM KH 'aMUr YHVH 'aL-ThYUr'a MPhNY HDBUrYM 'aShUr ShM'yTh 'aShUr GDPhV N'yUrY MLK-'aShVUr 'aThY.     and Isaiah saith to them, `Thus do ye say unto your lord: Thus said Jehovah, Be not afraid because of the words that thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Asshur have reviled Me.     dixitque eis Esaias haec dicetis domino vestro haec dicit Dominus noli timere a facie sermonum quos audisti quibus blasphemaverunt pueri regis Assyriorum me
 
7.    Behold, I will put a spirit in him, and he will hear news, and will return to his own land. 9.    When he heard it said of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, "Behold, he has come out to fight against you, he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,     And when he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Behold, he is come out to fight against thee: he sent messengers again unto Hezekiah, saying,     וישמע  אל־תרהקה

יצא  להלחם  אתך

    VYShM'y 'aL-ThUrHQH MLK-KVSh L'aMUr HNH YTSh'a LHLChM 'aThK VYShB VYShLCh ML'aKYM 'aL-ChZQYHV L'aMUr.     And he heareth concerning Tirhakah king of Cush, saying, `Lo, he hath come out to fight with thee;` and he turneth and sendeth messengers unto Hezekiah, saying,     cumque audisset de Tharaca rege Aethiopiae dicentes ecce egressus est ut pugnet adversum te et iret contra eum misit nuntios ad Ezechiam dicens
 
10.    'Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, "Don't let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.     Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.     כה  תאמרון

11.    Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. Will you be delivered?     Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be delivered?     הנה  אתה  שמעת  את

    HNH 'aThH ShM'yTh 'aTh 'aShUr 'yShV MLKY 'aShVUr LKL-H'aUrTShVTh LHChUrYMM V'aThH ThNTShL.     Lo, thou hast heard that which the kings of Asshur have done to all the lands -- to devote them; and thou art delivered!     tu enim ipse audisti quae fecerint reges Assyriorum universis terris quomodo vastaverint eas num ergo solus poteris liberari
 
12.    Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden that were in Telassar?     Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed; as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Thelasar?     ההצילו  אתם  אלהי

    HHTShYLV 'aThM 'aLHY HGVYM 'aShUr ShChThV 'aBVThY 'aTh-GVZN V'aTh-ChUrN VUrTShPh VBNY-'yDN 'aShUr BThL'aShUr.     did the gods of the nations deliver them whom my fathers destroyed -- Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden, who are in Thelassar?     numquid liberaverunt dii gentium singulos quos vastaverunt patres mei Gozan videlicet et Aran et Reseph et filios Eden qui erant in Thelassar

14.    Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to the house of Yahweh, and spread it before Yahweh.     And Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.     ויקח  חזקיהו

    VYQCh ChZQYHV 'aTh-HSPhUrYM MYD HML'aKYM VYQUr'aM VY'yL BYTh YHVH VYPhUrShHV ChZQYHV LPhNY YHVH.     And Hezekiah taketh the letters out of the hand of the messengers, and readeth them, and goeth up to the house of Jehovah, and Hezekiah spreadeth it before Jehovah.     itaque cum accepisset Ezechias litteras de manu nuntiorum et legisset eas ascendit in domum Domini et expandit eas coram Domino
 
15.    Hezekiah prayed before Yahweh, and said, "Yahweh, the God of Israel, who sit [above] the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.     And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth.     ויתפלל  חזקיהו 
לפני  יהוה  ויאמר
יהוה  אלהי  ישראל
ישב  הכרבים  אתה־
הוא  האלהים  לבדך
לכל  ממלכות  הארץ
אתה  עשית  את־השמים
ואת־הארץ׃

16.    Incline your ear, Yahweh, and hear. Open your eyes, Yahweh, and see. Hear the words of Sennacherib, with which he has sent to defy the living God.     LORD, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, LORD, thine eyes, and see: and hear the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God.     הטה  יהוה  אזנך

עיניך  וראה  ושמע

    HTH YHVH 'aZNK VShM'y PhQCh YHVH 'yYNYK VUr'aH VShM'y 'aTh DBUrY SNChUrYB 'aShUr ShLChV LChUrPh 'aLHYM ChY.     Incline, O Jehovah, Thine ear, and hear; open, O Jehovah, Thine eyes, and see; and hear Thou the words of Sennacherib with which he hath sent him to reproach the living God.     inclina aurem tuam et audi aperi Domine oculos tuos et vide et audi omnia verba Sennacherib qui misit ut exprobraret nobis Deum viventem
 
17.    Truly, Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands,     Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands,     אמנם  יהוה  החריבו

    'aMNM YHVH HChUrYBV MLKY 'aShVUr 'aTh-HGVYM V'aTh-'aUrTShM.     `Truly, O Jehovah, kings of Asshur have laid waste the nations, and their land,     vere Domine dissipaverunt reges Assyriorum gentes et terras omnium
 
18.    and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. 19.    Now therefore, Yahweh our God, save us, I beg you, out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, Yahweh, are God alone."     Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou only.     ועתה  יהוה  אלהינו

20.    Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, "Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, 'Whereas you have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard you.     Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.     וישלח  ישעיהו 
בן־אמוץ  אל־חזקיהו
לאמר  כה־אמר  יהוה
אלהי  ישראל  אשר
התפללת  אלי
אל־סנחרב  מלך־אשור
שמעתי׃
    VYShLCh YSh'yYHV BN-'aMVTSh 'aL-ChZQYHV L'aMUr KH-'aMUr YHVH 'aLHY YShUr'aL 'aShUr HThPhLLTh 'aLY 'aL-SNChUrB MLK-'aShVUr ShM'yThY.     And Isaiah son of Amoz sendeth unto Hezekiah, saying, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed unto Me concerning Sennacherib king of Asshur I have heard:     misit autem Esaias filius Amos ad Ezechiam dicens haec dicit Dominus Deus Israhel quae deprecatus es me super Sennacherib rege Assyriorum audivi
 
21.    This is the word that Yahweh has spoken concerning him: "The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.     This is the word that the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin the daughter of Zion hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.     זה  הדבר  אשר־דבר 
יהוה  עליו  בזה  לך
לעגה  לך  בתולת
בת־ציון  אחריך  ראש
הניעה  בת  ירושלם׃
    ZH HDBUr 'aShUr-DBUr YHVH 'yLYV BZH LK L'yGH LK BThVLTh BTh-TShYVN 'aChUrYK Ur'aSh HNY'yH BTh YUrVShLM.     this is the word that Jehovah spake concerning him: `Trampled on thee -- laughed at thee, Hath the virgin daughter of Zion Behind thee shaken the head -- Hath the daughter of Jerusalem?     iste est sermo quem locutus est Dominus de eo sprevit te et subsannavit virgo filia Sion post tergum tuum caput movit filia Hierusalem
 
22.    Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel.     Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.     את־מי  חרפת  וגדפת

23.    By your messengers you have defied the Lord, and have said, 'With the multitude of my chariots, I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon; and I will cut down its tall cedars, and its choice fir trees; and I will enter into his farthest lodging place, the forest of his fruitful field.     By thy messengers thou hast reproached the LORD, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut down the tall cedar trees thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel.     ביד  מלאכיך  חרפת

Now I have brought it in, And it becometh a desolation, Ruinous heaps are fenced cities,     numquid non audisti quid ab initio fecerim ex diebus antiquis plasmavi illud et nunc adduxi eruntque in ruinam collium pugnantium civitates munitae
 
26.    Therefore their inhabitants were of small power. They were dismayed and confounded.     VYShBYHN QTShUrY-YD ChThV VYBShV HYV 'yShB ShDH VYUrQ DSh'a ChTShYUr GGVTh VShDPhH LPhNY QMH.     And their inhabitants are feeble-handed, They were broken down, and are dried up, They have been the herb of the field, And the greenness of the tender grass, Grass of the roofs, And blasted corn -- before it hath risen up!     et qui sedent in eis humiles manu contremuerunt et confusi sunt facti sunt quasi faenum agri et virens herba tectorum quae arefacta est antequam veniret ad maturitatem
 
27.    But I know your sitting down, and your going out, and your coming in, and your raging against me.     But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.     ושבתך  וצאתך  ובאך

28.    Because of your raging against me, and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore will I put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came."     Because thy rage against me and thy tumult is come up into mine ears, therefore I will put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.     יען  התרגזך  אלי

29.    "'This shall be the sign to you: You shall eat this year that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs of the same; and in the third year sow, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat its fruit.     And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such things as grow of themselves, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruits thereof.     וזה־לך  האות  אכול

וקצרו  ונטעו  כרמים

    VZH-LK H'aVTh 'aKVL HShNH SPhYCh VBShNH HShNYTh SChYSh VBShNH HShLYShYTh ZUr'yV VQTShUrV VNT'yV KUrMYM V'aKLV PhUrYM.     And this to thee is the sign, Food of the year is the spontaneous growth, And in the second year the self-produced, And in the third year sow ye, and reap, And plant vineyards, and eat their fruits.     tibi autem Ezechia hoc erit signum comede hoc anno quod reppereris in secundo autem anno quae sponte nascuntur porro in anno tertio seminate et metite plantate vineas et comedite fructum earum
 
30.    The remnant that has escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.     And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.     ויספה  פליטת

31.    For out of Jerusalem a remnant will go out, and out of Mount Zion those who shall escape. The zeal of Yahweh will perform this.'     For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.     כי  מירושלם  תצא

    LKN KH-'aMUr YHVH 'aL-MLK 'aShVUr L'a YB'a 'aL-H'yYUr HZ'aTh VL'a-YVUrH ShM ChTSh VL'a-YQDMNH MGN VL'a-YShPhK 'yLYH SLLH.     Therefore, thus said Jehovah, Concerning the king of Asshur: He doth not come in unto this city, Nor doth he shoot there an arrow, Nor doth he come before it with shield. Nor doth he pour out against it a mount.     quam ob rem haec dicit Dominus de rege Assyriorum non ingredietur urbem hanc nec mittet in eam sagittam nec occupabit eam clypeus nec circumdabit eam munitio

35.    It happened that night, that the angel of Yahweh went out, and struck one hundred eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.     And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.     ויהי  בלילה  ההוא

אלף  וישכימו  בבקר

37.    It happened, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Esar Haddon his son reigned in his place.     And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Armenia. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.     ויהי  הוא  משתחוה

ואדרמלך  ושראצר
הכהו  בחרב  והמה
נמלטו  ארץ  אררט
וימלך  אסר־חדן  בנו
תחתיו׃
