1.    After these things, and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself.     After these things, and the establishment thereof, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and thought to win them for himself.     אחרי  הדברים  והאמת

    'aChUrY HDBUrYM VH'aMTh H'aLH B'a SNChUrYB MLK-'aShVUr VYB'a BYHVDH VYChN 'yL- H'yUrYM HBTShUrVTh VY'aMUr LBQ'yM 'aLYV.     After these things and this truth, come hath Sennacherib king of Asshur, yea, he cometh in to Judah, and encampeth against the cities of the bulwarks, and saith to rend them unto himself.     post quae et huiuscemodi veritatem venit Sennacherib rex Assyriorum et ingressus Iudam obsedit civitates munitas volens eas capere
 
2.    When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,     And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,     וירא  יחזקיהו

ופניו  למלחמה
על־ירושלם׃
    VYUr'a YChZQYHV KY-B'a SNChUrYB VPhNYV LMLChMH 'yL-YUrVShLM.     And Hezekiah seeth that Sennacherib hath come, and his face is to the battle against Jerusalem,     quod cum vidisset Ezechias venisse scilicet Sennacherib et totum belli impetum verti contra Hierusalem
 
3.    he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the springs which were outside of the city; and they helped him.     He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.     ויועץ  עם־שריו

    VYV'yTSh 'yM-ShUrYV VGBUrYV LSThVM 'aTh-MYMY H'yYNVTh 'aShUr MChVTSh L'yYUr VY'yZUrVHV.     and he taketh counsel with his heads and his mighty ones, to stop the waters of the fountains that are at the outside of the city -- and they help him,     inito cum principibus consilio virisque fortissimis ut obturarent capita fontium quae erant extra urbem et hoc omnium decernente sententia
 
4.    So there was gathered much people together, and they stopped all the springs, and the brook that flowed through the midst of the land, saying, "Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?"     So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?     ויקבצו  עם־רב

    VYQBTShV 'yM-UrB VYSThMV 'aTh-KL-HM'yYNVTh V'aTh-HNChL HShVTPh BThVK-H'aUrTSh L'aMUr LMH YBV'aV MLKY 'aShVUr VMTSh'aV MYM UrBYM.     and much people are gathered, and they stop all the fountains and the brook that is rushing into the midst of the land, saying, `Why do the kings of Asshur come, and have found much water?`     congregavit plurimam multitudinem et obturaverunt cunctos fontes et rivum qui fluebat in medio terrae dicentes ne veniant reges Assyriorum et inveniant aquarum abundantiam
 
5.    He took courage, and built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised [it] up to the towers, and the other wall outside, and strengthened Millo [in] the city of David, and made weapons and shields in abundance.     Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.     ויתחזק  ויבן 
את־כל־החומה
הפרוצה  ויעל
על־המגדלות  ולחוצה
החומה  אחרת  ויחזק
את־המלוא  עיר  דויד
ויעש  שלח  לרב
ומגנים׃
    VYThChZQ VYBN 'aTh-KL-HChVMH HPhUrVTShH VY'yL 'yL-HMGDLVTh VLChVTShH HChVMH 'aChUrTh VYChZQ 'aTh-HMLV'a 'yYUr DVYD VY'ySh ShLCh LUrB VMGNYM.     And he strengtheneth himself, and buildeth the whole of the wall that is broken, and causeth it to ascend unto the towers, and at the outside of the wall another, and strengtheneth Millo, in the city of David, and maketh darts in abundance, and shields.     aedificavit quoque agens industrie omnem murum qui fuerat dissipatus et extruxit turres desuper et forinsecus alterum murum instauravitque Mello in civitate David et fecit universi generis armaturam et clypeos

    VYThN ShUrY MLChMVTh 'yL-H'yM VYQBTShM 'aLYV 'aL-UrChVB Sh'yUr H'yYUr VYDBUr 'yL- LBBM L'aMUr.     And he putteth heads of war over the people, and gathereth them unto him, unto the broad place of a gate of the city, and speaketh unto their heart, saying,     constituitque principes bellatorum in exercitu et convocavit universos in platea portae civitatis ac locutus est ad cor eorum dicens
 
7.    "Be strong and of good courage, don't be afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater with us than with him.     Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:     חזקו  ואמצו 
אל־תיראו  ואל־תחתו
מפני  מלך  אשור
ומלפני  כל־ההמון
אשר־עמו  כי־עמנו
רב  מעמו׃
    ChZQV V'aMTShV 'aL-ThYUr'aV V'aL-ThChThV MPhNY MLK 'aShVUr VMLPhNY KL-HHMVN 'aShUr-'yMV KY-'yMNV UrB M'yMV.     `Be strong and courageous, be not afraid, nor be cast down from the face of the king of Asshur, and from the face of all the multitude that is with him, for with us are more than with him.     viriliter agite et confortamini nolite timere nec paveatis regem Assyriorum et universam multitudinem quae est cum eo multo enim plures nobiscum sunt quam cum illo
 
8.    With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is Yahweh our God to help us, and to fight our battles." The people rested themselves on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.     With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles.     'yMV ZUrV'y BShUr V'yMNV YHVH 'aLHYNV L'yZUrNV VLHLChM MLChMThNV VYSMKV H'yM 'yL-DBUrY YChZQYHV MLK-YHVDH.     With him is an arm of flesh, and with us is Jehovah our God, to help us, and to fight our battles;` and the people are supported by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.     cum illo est brachium carneum nobiscum Dominus Deus noster qui auxiliator est noster pugnatque pro nobis confortatusque est populus huiuscemodi verbis Ezechiae regis Iuda
 
9.    After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was before Lachish, and all his power with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying,     After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,     אחר  זה  שלח  סנחריב

    'aChUr ZH ShLCh SNChUrYB MLK-'aShVUr 'yBDYV YUrVShLYMH VHV'a 'yL-LKYSh VKL- MMShLThV 'yMV 'yL-YChZQYHV MLK YHVDH V'yL-KL-YHVDH 'aShUr BYUrVShLM L'aMUr.     After this hath Sennacherib king of Asshur sent his servants to Jerusalem -- and he is by Lachish, and all his power with him -- against Hezekiah king of Judah, and against all Judah, who are in Jerusalem, saying,     quae postquam gesta sunt misit Sennacherib rex Assyriorum servos suos Hierusalem ipse enim cum universo exercitu obsidebat Lachis ad Ezechiam regem Iuda et ad omnem populum qui erat in urbe dicens
 
10.    Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, "In whom do you trust, that you remain under siege in Jerusalem?     Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?     כה  אמר  סנחריב  מלך 
אשור  על־מה  אתם
בטחים  וישבים
במצור  בירושלם׃
    KH 'aMUr SNChUrYB MLK 'aShVUr 'yL-MH 'aThM BTChYM VYShBYM BMTShVUr BYUrVShLM.     `Thus said Sennacherib king of Asshur, On what are ye trusting and abiding in the bulwark, in Jerusalem?     haec dicit Sennacherib rex Assyriorum in quo habentes fiduciam sedetis obsessi in Hierusalem
 
11.    Doesn't Hezekiah persuade you, to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, 'Yahweh our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?'     Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?     הלא  יחזקיהו  מסית

12.    Hasn't the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, 'You shall worship before one altar, and on it you shall burn incense?'     Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?     הלא־הוא  יחזקיהו

    HL'a-HV'a YChZQYHV HSYUr 'aTh-BMThYV V'aTh-MZBChThYV VY'aMUr LYHVDH VLYUrVShLM L'aMUr LPhNY MZBCh 'aChD ThShThChVV V'yLYV ThQTYUrV.     Hath not Hezekiah himself turned aside His high places, and His altars, and speaketh to Judah and to Jerusalem, saying, Before one altar ye bow yourselves, and on it ye make perfume?     numquid non iste est Ezechias qui destruxit excelsa illius et altaria et praecepit Iudae et Hierusalem dicens coram altari uno adorabitis et in ipso conburetis incensum
 
13.    Don't you know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?     Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?     הלא  תדעו  מה  עשיתי 
אני  ואבותי  לכל
עמי  הארצות  היכול
יכלו  אלהי  גוי
הארצות  להציל
את־ארצם  מידי׃
    HL'a ThD'yV MH 'yShYThY 'aNY V'aBVThY LKL 'yMY H'aUrTShVTh HYKVL YKLV 'aLHY GVY H'aUrTShVTh LHTShYL 'aTh-'aUrTShM MYDY.     `Do ye not know what I have done -- I and my fathers -- to all peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands at all able to deliver their land out of my hand?     an ignoratis quae ego fecerim et patres mei cunctis terrarum populis numquid praevaluerunt dii gentium omniumque terrarum liberare regionem suam de manu mea
 
14.    Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?     Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?     מי  בכל־אלהי  הגוים

    MY BKL-'aLHY HGVYM H'aLH 'aShUr HChUrYMV 'aBVThY 'aShUr YKVL LHTShYL 'aTh- 'yMV MYDY KY YVKL 'aLHYKM LHTShYL 'aThKM MYDY.     Who among all the gods of these nations whom my fathers have devoted to destruction is he who hath been able to deliver his people out of my hand, that your God is able to deliver you out of my hand?     quis est de universis diis gentium quas vastaverunt patres mei qui potuerit eruere populum suum de manu mea ut possit etiam Deus vester eruere vos de hac manu
 
15.    Now therefore don't let Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you after this manner, neither believe him; for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand?"     Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?     ועתה  אל־ישיא  אתכם

    V'yThH 'aL-YShY'a 'aThKM ChZQYHV V'aL-YSYTh 'aThKM KZ'aTh V'aL-Th'aMYNV LV KY- L'a YVKL KL-'aLVH KL-GVY VMMLKH LHTShYL 'yMV MYDY VMYD 'aBVThY 'aPh KY 'aLHYKM L'a-YTShYLV 'aThKM MYDY.     `And, now, let not Hezekiah lift you up, nor persuade you thus, nor give credence to him, for no god of any nation and kingdom is able to deliver his people from my hand, and from the hand of my fathers: also, surely your God doth not deliver you from my hand!`     non vos ergo decipiat Ezechias nec vana persuasione deludat neque credatis ei si enim nullus potuit deus cunctarum gentium atque regnorum liberare populum suum de manu mea et de manu patrum meorum consequenter nec Deus vester poterit eruere vos de hac manu
 
16.    His servants spoke yet more against Yahweh God, and against his servant Hezekiah.     And his servants spake yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah.     ועוד  דברו  עבדיו

    V'yVD DBUrV 'yBDYV 'yL-YHVH H'aLHYM V'yL YChZQYHV 'yBDV.     And again have his servants spoken against Jehovah God, and against Hezekiah His servant,     sed et alia multa locuti sunt servi eius contra Dominum Deum et contra Ezechiam servum eius
 
17.    He also wrote letters insulting Yahweh, the God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, "As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand."     He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.     וספרים  כתב  לחרף 
ליהוה  אלהי  ישראל
ולאמר  עליו  לאמר
כאלהי  גוי  הארצות
אשר  לא־הצילו  עמם
מידי  כן  לא־יציל
אלהי  יחזקיהו  עמו
מידי׃
    VSPhUrYM KThB LChUrPh LYHVH 'aLHY YShUr'aL VL'aMUr 'yLYV L'aMUr K'aLHY GVY H'aUrTShVTh 'aShUr L'a-HTShYLV 'yMM MYDY KN L'a-YTShYL 'aLHY YChZQYHV 'yMV MYDY.     and letters he hath written to give reproach to Jehovah, God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, `As the gods of the nations of the lands that have not delivered their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah doth not deliver His people from my hand.`     epistulas quoque scripsit plenas blasphemiae in Dominum Deum Israhel et locutus est adversus eum sicut dii gentium ceterarum non potuerunt liberare populos suos de manu mea sic et Deus Ezechiae eruere non poterit populum suum de manu ista
 
18.    They cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.     Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.     ויקראו  בקול־גדול 
יהודית  על־עם
ירושלם  אשר
על־החומה  ליראם
ולבהלם  למען  ילכדו
את־העיר׃
    VYQUr'aV BQVL-GDVL YHVDYTh 'yL-'yM YUrVShLM 'aShUr 'yL-HChVMH LYUr'aM VLBHLM LM'yN YLKDV 'aTh-H'yYUr.     And they call with a great voice in Jewish, against the people of Jerusalem who are on the wall, to frighten them, and to trouble them, that they may capture the city,     insuper et clamore magno lingua iudaica contra populum qui sedebat in muris Hierusalem personabat ut terreret eos et caperet civitatem
 
19.    They spoke of the God of Jerusalem, as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men's hands.     And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.     וידברו  אל־אלהי 
ירושלם  כעל  אלהי
עמי  הארץ  מעשה  ידי
האדם׃
    VYDBUrV 'aL-'aLHY YUrVShLM K'yL 'aLHY 'yMY H'aUrTSh M'yShH YDY H'aDM.     and they speak against the God of Jerusalem as against the gods of the peoples of the land -- work of the hands of man.     locutusque est contra Deum Hierusalem sicut adversum deos populorum terrae opera manuum hominum
 
20.    Hezekiah the king, and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven.     And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.     ויתפלל  יחזקיהו

בן־אמוץ  הנביא
על־זאת  ויזעקו

    VYThPhLL YChZQYHV HMLK VYSh'yYHV BN-'aMVTSh HNBY'a 'yL-Z'aTh VYZ'yQV HShMYM.     And Hezekiah the king prayeth, and Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet, concerning this, and they cry to the heavens,     oraverunt igitur Ezechias rex et Esaias filius Amos prophetes adversum hanc blasphemiam ac vociferati sunt usque in caelum
 
21.    Yahweh sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, those who came forth from his own bowels killed him there with the sword.     And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.     וישלח  יהוה  מלאך 
ויכחד  כל־גבור  חיל
ונגיד  ושר  במחנה
מלך  אשור  וישב
בבשת  פנים  לארצו
ויבא  בית  אלהיו
ומיציאו  מעיו  שם
הפילהו  בחרב׃
    VYShLCh YHVH ML'aK VYKChD KL-GBVUr ChYL VNGYD VShUr BMChNH MLK 'aShVUr VYShB BBShTh PhNYM L'aUrTShV VYB'a BYTh 'aLHYV VMYTShY'aV M'yYV ShM HPhYLHV BChUrB.     and Jehovah sendeth a messenger, and cutteth off every mighty one of valour -- both leader and head -- in the camp of the king of Asshur, and he turneth back with shame of face to his land, and entereth the house of his god, and those coming out of his bowels have caused him to fall there by the sword.     et misit Dominus angelum qui percussit omnem virum robustum et bellatorem et principem exercitus regis Assyriorum reversusque est cum ignominia in terram suam cumque ingressus esset domum dei sui filii qui egressi fuerant de utero eius interfecerunt eum gladio
 
22.    Thus Yahweh saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all [others], and guided them on every side.     Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.     ויושע  יהוה 
את־יחזקיהו  ואת
ישבי  ירושלם  מיד
סנחריב  מלך־אשור
ומיד־כל  וינהלם
מסביב׃
    VYVSh'y YHVH 'aTh-YChZQYHV V'aTh YShBY YUrVShLM MYD SNChUrYB MLK-'aShVUr VMYD-KL VYNHLM MSBYB.     And Jehovah saveth Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Asshur, and from the hand of all, and He leadeth them round about;     salvavitque Dominus Ezechiam et habitatores Hierusalem de manu Sennacherib regis Assyriorum et de manu omnium et praestitit ei quietem per circuitum
 
23.    Many brought gifts to Yahweh to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah; so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.     And many brought gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.     ורבים  מביאים  מנחה 
ליהוה  לירושלם
ומגדנות  ליחזקיהו
מלך  יהודה  וינשא
לעיני  כל־הגוים
מאחרי־כן׃
    VUrBYM MBY'aYM MNChH LYHVH LYUrVShLM VMGDNVTh LYChZQYHV MLK YHVDH VYNSh'a L'yYNY KL-HGVYM M'aChUrY-KN.     and many are bringing in an offering to Jehovah, to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah, and he is lifted up before the eyes of all the nations after this.     multi etiam deferebant hostias et sacrificia Domino Hierusalem et munera Ezechiae regi Iuda qui exaltatus est post haec coram cunctis gentibus
 
24.    In those days Hezekiah was sick even to death: and he prayed to Yahweh; and he spoke to him, and gave him a sign.     In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto the LORD: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.     בימים  ההם  חלה 
יחזקיהו  עד־למות
ויתפלל  אל־יהוה
ויאמר  לו  ומופת
נתן  לו׃

30.    This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper spring of the waters of Gihon, and brought them straight down on the west side of the city of David. 33.    Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent of the tombs of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death.
