1. | Moreover Yahweh answered Job, | Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, |
ויען יהוה את־איוב ויאמר׃ |
VY'yN YHVH 'aTh-'aYVB VY'aMUr. | And Jehovah doth answer Job, and saith: -- | et adiecit Dominus et locutus est ad Iob | |||||
2. | "Shall he who argues contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it." | Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it. |
הרב עם־שדי יסור מוכיח אלוה יעננה׃ |
HUrB 'yM-ShDY YSVUr MVKYCh 'aLVH Y'yNNH. | Is the striver with the Mighty instructed? The reprover of God, let him answer it. | numquid qui contendit cum Deo tam facile conquiescit utique qui arguit Deum debet respondere ei | |||||
3. | Then Job answered Yahweh, | Then Job answered the LORD, and said, |

4. | "Behold, I am of small account. What shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth. | Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. |
הן קלתי מה אשיבך ידי שמתי למו־פי׃ |
HN QLThY MH 'aShYBK YDY ShMThY LMV-PhY. | Lo, I have been vile, What do I return to Thee? My hand I have placed on my mouth. | qui leviter locutus sum respondere quid possum manum meam ponam super os meum | |||||
5. | I have spoken once, and I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further." | Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further. |
אחת דברתי ולא אענה ושתים ולא אוסיף׃ |

6. | Then Yahweh answered Job out of the whirlwind, | Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said, |

VY'yN-YHVH 'aTh-'aYVB MNS'yUrH VY'aMUr. | And Jehovah answereth Job out of the whirlwind, and saith: -- | respondens autem Dominus Iob de turbine ait | |||||
7. | "Now brace yourself like a man. I will question you, and you will answer me. | Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. |
אזר־נא כגבר חלציך אשאלך והודיעני׃ |
'aZUr-N'a KGBUr ChLTShYK 'aSh'aLK VHVDY'yNY. | Gird, I pray thee, as a man, thy loins, I ask thee, and cause thou Me to know. | accinge sicut vir lumbos tuos interrogabo te et indica mihi | |||||
8. | Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified? | Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous? |
האף תפר משפטי תרשיעני למען תצדק׃ |
H'aPh ThPhUr MShPhTY ThUrShY'yNY LM'yN ThTShDQ. | Dost thou also make void My judgment? Dost thou condemn Me, That thou mayest be righteous? | numquid irritum facies iudicium meum et condemnabis me ut tu iustificeris | |||||
9. | Or do you have an arm like God? Can you thunder with a voice like him? | Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him? |
ואם־זרוע כאל לך ובקול כמהו תרעם׃ |
V'aM-ZUrV'y K'aL LK VBQVL KMHV ThUr'yM. | And an arm like God hast thou? And with a voice like Him dost thou thunder? | et si habes brachium sicut Deus et si voce simili tonas | |||||
10. | "Now deck yourself with excellency and dignity. Array yourself with honor and majesty. | Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty. |
עדה נא גאון וגבה והוד והדר תלבש׃ |
'yDH N'a G'aVN VGBH VHVD VHDUr ThLBSh. | Put on, I pray thee, excellency and loftiness, Yea, honour and beauty put on. | circumda tibi decorem et in sublime erigere et esto gloriosus et speciosis induere vestibus | |||||
11. | Pour out the fury of your anger. Look at everyone who is proud, and bring him low. | Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him. |
הפץ עברות אפך וראה כל־גאה והשפילהו׃ |
HPhTSh 'yBUrVTh 'aPhK VUr'aH KL-G'aH VHShPhYLHV. | Scatter abroad the wrath of thine anger, And see every proud one, and make him low. | disperge superbos furore tuo et respiciens omnem arrogantem humilia | |||||
12. | Look at everyone who is proud, and humble him. Crush the wicked in their place. | Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. |
ראה כל־גאה הכניעהו והדך רשעים תחתם׃ |

13. | Hide them in the dust together. Bind their faces in the hidden place. | Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret. |

14. | Then I will also admit to you that your own right hand can save you. | Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee. |
וגם־אני אודך כי־תושע לך ימינך׃ |
VGM-'aNY 'aVDK KY-ThVSh'y LK YMYNK. | And even I -- I do praise thee, For thy right hand giveth salvation to thee. | et ego confitebor quod salvare te possit dextera tua | |||||
15. | "See now, behemoth, which I made as well as you. He eats grass as an ox. | Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. |
הנה־נא בהמות אשר־עשיתי עמך חציר כבקר יאכל׃ |
HNH-N'a BHMVTh 'aShUr-'yShYThY 'yMK ChTShYUr KBQUr Y'aKL. | Lo, I pray thee, Behemoth, that I made with thee: Grass as an ox he eateth. | ecce Behemoth quem feci tecum faenum quasi bos comedet | |||||
16. | Look now, his strength is in his thighs. His force is in the muscles of his belly. | Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. |
הנה־נא כחו במתניו ואנו בשרירי בטנו׃ |
HNH-N'a KChV BMThNYV V'aNV BShUrYUrY BTNV. | Lo, I pray thee, his power is in his loins, And his strength in the muscles of his belly. | fortitudo eius in lumbis eius et virtus illius in umbilicis ventris eius | |||||
17. | He moves his tail like a cedar. The sinews of his thighs are knit together. | He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. |
יחפץ זנבו כמו־ארז גידי פחדו ישרגו׃ |

18. | His bones are like tubes of brass. His limbs are like bars of iron. | His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. |

19. | He is the chief of the ways of God. He who made him gives him his sword. | He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. |

20. | Surely the mountains produce food for him, where all the animals of the field play. | Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. |
כי־בול הרים ישאו־לו וכל־חית השדה ישחקו־שם׃ |

21. | He lies under the lotus trees, in the covert of the reed, and the marsh. | He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens. |
תחת־צאלים ישכב בסתר קנה ובצה׃ |

22. | The lotuses cover him with their shade. The willows of the brook surround him. | The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. |

23. | Behold, if a river overflows, he doesn't tremble. He is confident, though the Jordan swells even to his mouth. | Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. |
הן יעשק נהר לא יחפוז יבטח כי־יגיח ירדן אל־פיהו׃ |

24. | Shall any take him when he is on the watch, or pierce through his nose with a snare? | He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares. |
בעיניו יקחנו במוקשים ינקב־אף׃ |
