1.    Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a house full of feasting with strife.     Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.     טוב  פת  חרבה

2.    A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who causes shame, and shall have a part in the inheritance among the brothers.     A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.     עבד־משכיל  ימשל

    'yBD-MShKYL YMShL BBN MBYSh VBThVK 'aChYM YChLQ NChLH.     A wise servant ruleth over a son causing shame, And in the midst of brethren He apportioneth an inheritance.     servus sapiens dominabitur filiis stultis et inter fratres hereditatem dividet
 
3.    The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but Yahweh tests the hearts.     The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.     מצרף  לכסף  וכור 
לזהב  ובחן  לבות
יהוה׃
    MTShUrPh LKSPh VKVUr LZHB VBChN LBVTh YHVH.     A refining pot is for silver, and a furnace for gold, And the trier of hearts is Jehovah.     sicut igne probatur argentum et aurum camino ita corda probat Dominus
 
4.    An evildoer heeds wicked lips. A liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.     A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.     מרע  מקשיב 
על־שפת־און  שקר
מזין  על־לשון  הות׃
    MUr'y MQShYB 'yL-ShPhTh-'aVN ShQUr MZYN 'yL-LShVN HVTh.     An evil doer is attentive to lips of vanity, Falsehood is giving ear to a mischievous tongue.     malus oboedit linguae iniquae et fallax obtemperat labiis mendacibus
 
5.    Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker. He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.     Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.     לעג  לרש  חרף  עשהו 
שמח  לאיד  לא  ינקה׃
    L'yG LUrSh ChUrPh 'yShHV ShMCh L'aYD L'a YNQH.     Whoso is mocking at the poor Hath reproached his Maker, Whoso is rejoicing at calamity is not acquitted.     qui despicit pauperem exprobrat factori eius et qui in ruina laetatur alterius non erit inpunitus
 
6.    Children's children are the crown of old men; the glory of children are their parents.     Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.     עטרת  זקנים  בני 
בנים  ותפארת  בנים
אבותם׃
    'yTUrTh ZQNYM BNY BNYM VThPh'aUrTh BNYM 'aBVThM.     Sons` sons are the crown of old men, And the glory of sons are their fathers.     corona senum filii filiorum et gloria filiorum patres sui
 
7.    Arrogant speech isn't fitting for a fool, much less do lying lips fit a prince.     Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.     לא־נאוה  לנבל 
שפת־יתר  אף
כי־לנדיב  שפת־שקר׃
    L'a-N'aVH LNBL ShPhTh-YThUr 'aPh KY-LNDYB ShPhTh-ShQUr.     Not comely for a fool is a lip of excellency, Much less for a noble a lip of falsehood.     non decent stultum verba conposita nec principem labium mentiens
 
8.    A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who gives it; wherever he turns, he prospers.     A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.     אבן־חן  השחד  בעיני 
בעליו  אל־כל־אשר
יפנה  ישכיל׃
    'aBN-ChN HShChD B'yYNY B'yLYV 'aL-KL-'aShUr YPhNH YShKYL.     A stone of grace is the bribe in the eyes of its possessors, Whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.     gemma gratissima expectatio praestolantis quocumque se verterit prudenter intellegit
 
9.    He who covers an offense promotes love; but he who repeats a matter separates best friends.     He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.     מכסה־פשע  מבקש 
אהבה  ושנה  בדבר
מפריד  אלוף׃
    MKSH-PhSh'y MBQSh 'aHBH VShNH BDBUr MPhUrYD 'aLVPh.     Whoso is covering transgression is seeking love, And whoso is repeating a matter Is separating a familiar friend.     qui celat delictum quaerit amicitias qui altero sermone repetit separat foederatos
 
10.    A rebuke enters deeper into one who has understanding than a hundred lashes into a fool.     A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.     תחת  גערה  במבין 
מהכות  כסיל  מאה׃
    ThChTh G'yUrH BMBYN MHKVTh KSYL M'aH.     Rebuke cometh down on the intelligent More than a hundred stripes on a fool.     plus proficit correptio apud prudentem quam centum plagae apud stultum
 
11.    An evil man seeks only rebellion; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.     An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.     אך־מרי  יבקש־רע 
ומלאך  אכזרי
ישלח־בו׃
    'aK-MUrY YBQSh-Ur'y VML'aK 'aKZUrY YShLCh-BV.     An evil man seeketh only rebellion, And a fierce messenger is sent against him.     semper iurgia quaerit malus angelus autem crudelis mittetur contra eum
 
12.    Let a bear robbed of her cubs meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.     Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.     פגוש  דב  שכול  באיש 
ואל־כסיל  באולתו׃
    PhGVSh DB ShKVL B'aYSh V'aL-KSYL B'aVLThV.     The meeting of a bereaved bear by a man, And -- not a fool in his folly.     expedit magis ursae occurrere raptis fetibus quam fatuo confidenti sibi in stultitia sua
 
13.    Whoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.     Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.     משיב  רעה  תחת  טובה 
לא־תמיש  רעה
מביתו׃
    MShYB Ur'yH ThChTh TVBH L'a-ThMYSh Ur'yH MBYThV.     Whoso is returning evil for good, Evil moveth not from his house.     qui reddit mala pro bonis non recedet malum de domo eius
 
14.    The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam, therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.     The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.     פוטר  מים  ראשית 
מדון  ולפני  התגלע
הריב  נטוש׃
    PhVTUr MYM Ur'aShYTh MDVN VLPhNY HThGL'y HUrYB NTVSh.     The beginning of contention is a letting out of waters, And before it is meddled with leave the strife.     qui dimittit aquam caput est iurgiorum et antequam patiatur contumeliam iudicium deserit
 
15.    He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to Yahweh.     He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.     מצדיק  רשע  ומרשיע 
צדיק  תועבת  יהוה
גם־שניהם׃
    MTShDYQ UrSh'y VMUrShY'y TShDYQ ThV'yBTh YHVH GM-ShNYHM.     Whoso is justifying the wicked, And condemning the righteous, Even both of these are an abomination to Jehovah.     et qui iustificat impium et qui condemnat iustum abominabilis est uterque apud Dominum
 
16.    Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, seeing he has no understanding?     Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?     למה־זה  מחיר 
ביד־כסיל  לקנות
חכמה  ולב־אין׃
    LMH-ZH MChYUr BYD-KSYL LQNVTh ChKMH VLB-'aYN.     Why is this -- a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, And a heart there is none?     quid prodest habere divitias stultum cum sapientiam emere non possit
 
17.    A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity.     A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.     בכל־עת  אהב  הרע 
ואח  לצרה  יולד׃
    BKL-'yTh 'aHB HUr'y V'aCh LTShUrH YVLD.     At all times is the friend loving, And a brother for adversity is born.     omni tempore diligit qui amicus est et frater in angustiis conprobatur
 
18.    A man void of understanding strikes hands, and becomes collateral in the presence of his neighbor.     A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.     אדם  חסר־לב  תוקע 
כף  ערב  ערבה  לפני
רעהו׃
    'aDM ChSUr-LB ThVQ'y KPh 'yUrB 'yUrBH LPhNY Ur'yHV.     A man lacking heart is striking hands, A surety he becometh before his friend.     homo stultus plaudet manibus cum spoponderit pro amico suo
 
19.    He who loves disobedience loves strife. One who builds a high gate seeks destruction.     He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.     אהב  פשע  אהב  מצה 
מגביה  פתחו
מבקש־שבר׃
    'aHB PhSh'y 'aHB MTShH MGBYH PhThChV MBQSh-ShBUr.     Whoso is loving transgression is loving debate, Whoso is making high his entrance is seeking destruction.     qui meditatur discordiam diligit rixas et qui exaltat ostium quaerit ruinam
 
20.    One who has a perverse heart doesn't find prosperity, and one who has a deceitful tongue falls into trouble.     He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.     עקש־לב  לא 
ימצא־טוב  ונהפך
בלשונו  יפול  ברעה׃
    'yQSh-LB L'a YMTSh'a-TVB VNHPhK BLShVNV YPhVL BUr'yH.     The perverse of heart findeth not good, And the turned in his tongue falleth into evil.     qui perversi cordis est non inveniet bonum et qui vertit linguam incidet in malum
 
21.    He who becomes the father of a fool grieves. The father of a fool has no joy.     He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.     ילד  כסיל  לתוגה  לו 
ולא־ישמח  אבי  נבל׃
    YLD KSYL LThVGH LV VL'a-YShMCh 'aBY NBL.     Whoso is begetting a fool hath affliction for it, Yea, the father of a fool rejoiceth not.     natus est stultus in ignominiam suam sed nec pater in fatuo laetabitur
 
22.    A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.     A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.     לב  שמח  ייטב  גהה 
ורוח  נכאה
תיבש־גרם׃
    LB ShMCh YYTB GHH VUrVCh NK'aH ThYBSh-GUrM.     A rejoicing heart doth good to the body, And a smitten spirit drieth the bone.     animus gaudens aetatem floridam facit spiritus tristis exsiccat ossa
 
23.    A wicked man receives a bribe in secret, to pervert the ways of justice.     A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.     שחד  מחיק  רשע  יקח 
להטות  ארחות  משפט׃
    ShChD MChYQ UrSh'y YQCh LHTVTh 'aUrChVTh MShPhT.     A bribe from the bosom the wicked taketh, To turn aside the paths of judgment.     munera de sinu impius accipit ut pervertat semitas iudicii
 
24.    Wisdom is before the face of one who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool wander to the ends of the earth.     Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.     את־פני  מבין  חכמה 
ועיני  כסיל
בקצה־ארץ׃
    'aTh-PhNY MBYN ChKMH V'yYNY KSYL BQTShH-'aUrTSh.     The face of the intelligent is to wisdom, And the eyes of a fool -- at the end of the earth.     in facie prudentis lucet sapientia oculi stultorum in finibus terrae
 
25.    A foolish son brings grief to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him.     A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.     כעס  לאביו  בן  כסיל 
וממר  ליולדתו׃
    K'yS L'aBYV BN KSYL VMMUr LYVLDThV.     A provocation to his father is a foolish son, And bitterness to her that bare him.     ira patris filius stultus et dolor matris quae genuit eum
 
26.    Also to punish the righteous is not good, nor to flog officials for their integrity.     Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.     גם  ענוש  לצדיק 
לא־טוב  להכות
נדיבים  על־ישר׃
    GM 'yNVSh LTShDYQ L'a-TVB LHKVTh NDYBYM 'yL-YShUr.     Also, to fine the righteous is not good, To smite nobles for uprightness.     non est bonum damnum inferre iusto nec percutere principem qui recta iudicat
 
27.    He who spares his words has knowledge. He who is even tempered is a man of understanding.     He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.     חושך  אמריו  יודע 
דעת  וקר־רוח  איש
תבונה׃
    ChVShK 'aMUrYV YVD'y D'yTh VQUr-UrVCh 'aYSh ThBVNH.     One acquainted with knowledge is sparing his words, And the cool of temper is a man of understanding.     qui moderatur sermones suos doctus et prudens est et pretiosi spiritus vir eruditus
 
28.    Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.     Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.     גם  אויל  מחריש  חכם
