1.    When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you;     When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:     כי־תשב  ללחום 
את־מושל  בין  תבין
את־אשר  לפניך׃
    KY-ThShB LLChVM 'aTh-MVShL BYN ThBYN 'aTh-'aShUr LPhNYK.     When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, Thou considerest diligently that which is before thee,     quando sederis ut comedas cum principe diligenter adtende quae posita sunt ante faciem tuam
 
2.    put a knife to your throat, if you are a man given to appetite.     And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.     ושמת  שכין  בלעך 
אם־בעל  נפש  אתה׃
    VShMTh ShKYN BL'yK 'aM-B'yL NPhSh 'aThH.     And thou hast put a knife to thy throat, If thou art a man of appetite.     et statue cultrum in gutture tuo si tamen habes in potestate animam tuam
 
3.    Don't be desirous of his dainties, seeing they are deceitful food.     Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.     אל־תתאו  למטעמותיו 
והוא  לחם  כזבים׃
    'aL-ThTh'aV LMT'yMVThYV VHV'a LChM KZBYM.     Have no desire to his dainties, seeing it is lying food.     ne desideres de cibis eius in quo est panis mendacii
 
4.    Don't weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint.     Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.     אל־תיגע  להעשיר 
מבינתך  חדל׃
    'aL-ThYG'y LH'yShYUr MBYNThK ChDL.     Labour not to make wealth, From thine own understanding cease, Dost thou cause thine eyes to fly upon it? Then it is not.     noli laborare ut diteris sed prudentiae tuae pone modum
 
5.    Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.     Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.     התעוף  עיניך  בו 
ואיננו  כי  עשה
יעשה־לו  כנפים
כנשר  ועיף  השמים׃
    HTh'yVPh 'yYNYK BV V'aYNNV KY 'yShH Y'yShH-LV KNPhYM KNShUr V'yYPh HShMYM.     For wealth maketh to itself wings, As an eagle it flieth to the heavens.     ne erigas oculos tuos ad opes quas habere non potes quia facient sibi pinnas quasi aquilae et avolabunt in caelum
 
6.    Don't eat the food of him who has a stingy eye, and don't crave his delicacies:     Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:     אל־תלחם  את־לחם  רע 
עין  ואל־תתאו
למטעמתיו׃
    'aL-ThLChM 'aTh-LChM Ur'y 'yYN V'aL-ThTh'aV LMT'yMThYV.     Eat not the bread of an evil eye, And have no desire to his dainties,     ne comedas cum homine invido et ne desideres cibos eius
 
7.    for as he thinks about the cost, so he is. "Eat and drink!" he says to you, but his heart is not with you.     For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.     כי  כמו־שער  בנפשו 
כן־הוא  אכל  ושתה
יאמר  לך  ולבו
בל־עמך׃
    KY KMV-Sh'yUr BNPhShV KN-HV'a 'aKL VShThH Y'aMUr LK VLBV BL-'yMK.     For as he hath thought in his soul, so is he, `Eat and drink,` saith he to thee, And his heart is not with thee.     quoniam in similitudinem arioli et coniectoris aestimat quod ignorat comede et bibe dicet tibi et mens eius non est tecum
 
8.    The morsel which you have eaten you shall vomit up, and lose your good words.     The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.     פתך־אכלת  תקיאנה 
ושחת  דבריך
הנעימים׃
    PhThK-'aKLTh ThQY'aNH VShChTh DBUrYK HN'yYMYM.     Thy morsel thou hast eaten thou dost vomit up, And hast marred thy words that are sweet.     cibos quos comederas evomes et perdes pulchros sermones tuos
 
9.    Don't speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.     Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.     באזני  כסיל 
אל־תדבר  כי־יבוז
לשכל  מליך׃
    B'aZNY KSYL 'aL-ThDBUr KY-YBVZ LShKL MLYK.     In the ears of a fool speak not, For he treadeth on the wisdom of thy words.     in auribus insipientium ne loquaris quia despicient doctrinam eloquii tui
 
10.    Don't move the ancient boundary stone. Don't encroach on the fields of the fatherless:     Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:     אל־תסג  גבול  עולם 
ובשדי  יתומים
אל־תבא׃
    'aL-ThSG GBVL 'yVLM VBShDY YThVMYM 'aL-ThB'a.     Remove not a border of olden times, And into fields of the fatherless enter not,     ne adtingas terminos parvulorum et agrum pupillorum ne introeas
 
11.    for their Defender is strong. He will plead their case against you.     For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.     כי־גאלם  חזק 
הוא־יריב  את־ריבם
אתך׃
    KY-G'aLM ChZQ HV'a-YUrYB 'aTh-UrYBM 'aThK.     For their Redeemer is strong, He doth plead their cause with thee.     propinquus enim eorum Fortis est et ipse iudicabit contra te causam illorum
 
12.    Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to the words of knowledge.     Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.     הביאה  למוסר  לבך 
ואזנך  לאמרי־דעת׃
    HBY'aH LMVSUr LBK V'aZNK L'aMUrY-D'yTh.     Bring in to instruction thy heart, And thine ear to sayings of knowledge.     ingrediatur ad doctrinam cor tuum et aures tuae ad verba scientiae
 
13.    Don't withhold correction from a child. If you punish him with the rod, he will not die.     Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.     אל־תמנע  מנער  מוסר 
כי־תכנו  בשבט  לא
ימות׃
    'aL-ThMN'y MN'yUr MVSUr KY-ThKNV BShBT L'a YMVTh.     Withhold not from a youth chastisement, When thou smitest him with a rod he dieth not.     noli subtrahere a puero disciplinam si enim percusseris eum virga non morietur
 
14.    Punish him with the rod, and save his soul from Sheol{Sheol is the place of the dead.}.     Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.     אתה  בשבט  תכנו 
ונפשו  משאול  תציל׃
    'aThH BShBT ThKNV VNPhShV MSh'aVL ThTShYL.     Thou with a rod smitest him, And his soul from Sheol thou deliverest.     tu virga percuties eum et animam eius de inferno liberabis
 
15.    My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad, even mine:     My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.     בני  אם־חכם  לבך 
ישמח  לבי  גם־אני׃
    BNY 'aM-ChKM LBK YShMCh LBY GM-'aNY.     My son, if thy heart hath been wise, My heart rejoiceth, even mine,     fili mi si sapiens fuerit animus tuus gaudebit tecum cor meum
 
16.    yes, my heart will rejoice, when your lips speak what is right.     Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.     ותעלזנה  כליותי 
בדבר  שפתיך
מישרים׃
    VTh'yLZNH KLYVThY BDBUr ShPhThYK MYShUrYM.     And my reins exult when thy lips speak uprightly.     et exultabunt renes mei cum locuta fuerint rectum labia tua
 
17.    Don't let your heart envy sinners; but rather fear Yahweh all the day long.     Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.     אל־יקנא  לבך 
בחטאים  כי
אם־ביראת־יהוה
כל־היום׃
    'aL-YQN'a LBK BChT'aYM KY 'aM-BYUr'aTh-YHVH KL-HYVM.     Let not thy heart be envious at sinners, But -- in the fear of Jehovah all the day.     non aemuletur cor tuum peccatores sed in timore Domini esto tota die
 
18.    Indeed surely there is a future hope, and your hope will not be cut off.     For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.     כי  אם־יש  אחרית 
ותקותך  לא  תכרת׃
    KY 'aM-YSh 'aChUrYTh VThQVThK L'a ThKUrTh.     For, is there a posterity? Then thy hope is not cut off.     quia habebis spem in novissimo et praestolatio tua non auferetur
 
19.    Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path!     Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.     שמע־אתה  בני  וחכם 
ואשר  בדרך  לבך׃
    ShM'y-'aThH BNY VChKM V'aShUr BDUrK LBK.     Hear thou, my son, and be wise, And make happy in the way thy heart,     audi fili mi et esto sapiens et dirige in via animum tuum
 
20.    Don't be among ones drinking too much wine, or those who gorge themselves on meat:     Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:     אל־תהי  בסבאי־יין 
בזללי  בשר  למו׃
    'aL-ThHY BSB'aY-YYN BZLLY BShUr LMV.     Be not thou among quaffers of wine, Among gluttonous ones of flesh,     noli esse in conviviis potatorum nec in comesationibus eorum qui carnes ad vescendum conferunt
 
21.    for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags.     For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.     כי־סבא  וזולל  יורש 
וקרעים  תלביש
נומה׃
    KY-SB'a VZVLL YVUrSh VQUr'yYM ThLBYSh NVMH.     For the quaffer and glutton become poor, And drowsiness clotheth with rags.     quia vacantes potibus et dantes symbola consumentur et vestietur pannis dormitatio
 
22.    Listen to your father who gave you life, and don't despise your mother when she is old.     Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.     שמע  לאביך  זה  ילדך 
ואל־תבוז  כי־זקנה
אמך׃
    ShM'y L'aBYK ZH YLDK V'aL-ThBVZ KY-ZQNH 'aMK.     Hearken to thy father, who begat thee, And despise not thy mother when she hath become old.     audi patrem tuum qui genuit te et ne contemnas cum senuerit mater tua
 
23.    Buy the truth, and don't sell it. Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.     Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.     אמת  קנה  ואל־תמכר 
חכמה  ומוסר  ובינה׃
    'aMTh QNH V'aL-ThMKUr ChKMH VMVSUr VBYNH.     Truth buy, and sell not, Wisdom, and instruction, and understanding,     veritatem eme et noli vendere sapientiam et doctrinam et intellegentiam
 
24.    The father of the righteous has great joy. Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him.     The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.     גול  יגול  אבי  צדיק 
יולד  חכם  וישמח
בו׃
    GVL YGVL 'aBY TShDYQ YVLD ChKM VYShMCh BV.     The father of the righteous rejoiceth greatly, The begetter of the wise rejoiceth in him.     exultat gaudio pater iusti qui sapientem genuit laetabitur in eo
 
25.    Let your father and your mother be glad! Let her who bore you rejoice!     Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.     ישמח־אביך  ואמך 
ותגל  יולדתך׃
    YShMCh-'aBYK V'aMK VThGL YVLDThK.     Rejoice doth thy father and thy mother, Yea, she that bare thee is joyful.     gaudeat pater tuus et mater tua et exultet quae genuit te
 
26.    My son, give me your heart; and let your eyes keep in my ways.     My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.     תנה־בני  לבך  לי 
ועיניך  דרכי
תרצנה׃
    ThNH-BNY LBK LY V'yYNYK DUrKY ThUrTShNH.     Give, my son, thy heart to me, And let thine eyes watch my ways.     praebe fili mi cor tuum mihi et oculi tui vias meas custodiant
 
27.    For a prostitute is a deep pit; and a wayward wife is a narrow well.     For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.     כי־שוחה  עמקה  זונה 
ובאר  צרה  נכריה׃
    KY-ShVChH 'yMQH ZVNH VB'aUr TShUrH NKUrYH.     For a harlot is a deep ditch, And a strange woman is a strait pit.     fovea enim profunda est meretrix et puteus angustus aliena
 
28.    Yes, she lies in wait like a robber, and increases the unfaithful among men.     She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.     אף־היא  כחתף  תארב 
ובוגדים  באדם

29.    Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?     Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?     למי  אוי  למי  אבוי

    LMY 'aVY LMY 'aBVY LMY MDVNYM LMY ShYCh LMY PhTSh'yYM ChNM LMY ChKLLVTh 'yYNYM.     Who hath wo? who hath sorrow? Who hath contentions? who hath plaint? Who hath wounds without cause? Who hath redness of eyes?     cui vae cuius patri vae cui rixae cui foveae cui sine causa vulnera cui suffusio oculorum
 
30.    Those who stay long at the wine; those who go to seek out mixed wine.     They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.     למאחרים  על־היין 
לבאים  לחקר  ממסך׃
    LM'aChUrYM 'yL-HYYN LB'aYM LChQUr MMSK.     Those tarrying by the wine, Those going in to search out mixed wine.     nonne his qui morantur in vino et student calicibus epotandis
 
31.    Don't look at the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly.     Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.     אל־תרא  יין  כי 
יתאדם  כי־יתן  בכיס
עינו  יתהלך
במישרים׃
    'aL-ThUr'a YYN KY YTh'aDM KY-YThN BKYS 'yYNV YThHLK BMYShUrYM.     See not wine when it showeth itself red, When it giveth in the cup its colour, It goeth up and down through the upright.     ne intuearis vinum quando flavescit cum splenduerit in vitro color eius ingreditur blande
 
32.    In the end, it bites like a snake, and poisons like a viper.     At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.     אחריתו  כנחש  ישך 
וכצפעני  יפרש׃
    'aChUrYThV KNChSh YShK VKTShPh'yNY YPhUrSh.     Its latter end -- as a serpent it biteth, And as a basilisk it stingeth.     sed in novissimo mordebit ut coluber et sicut regulus venena diffundet
 
33.    Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things.     Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.     עיניך  יראו  זרות

34.    Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he who lies on top of the rigging:     Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.     והיית  כשכב  בלב־ים 
וכשכב  בראש  חבל׃
    VHYYTh KShKB BLB-YM VKShKB BUr'aSh ChBL.     And thou hast been as one lying down in the heart of the sea, And as one lying down on the top of a mast.     et eris sicut dormiens in medio mari et quasi sopitus gubernator amisso clavo
 
35.    "They hit me, and I was not hurt! They beat me, and I don't feel it! When will I wake up? I can do it again. I can find another."     They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.     הכוני  בל־חליתי
