1.    The wicked flee when no one pursues; but the righteous are as bold as a lion.     The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.     נסו  ואין־רדף  רשע 
וצדיקים  ככפיר
יבטח׃
    NSV V'aYN-UrDPh UrSh'y VTShDYQYM KKPhYUr YBTCh.     The wicked have fled and there is no pursuer. And the righteous as a young lion is confident.     fugit impius nemine persequente iustus autem quasi leo confidens absque terrore erit
 
2.    In rebellion, a land has many rulers, but order is maintained by a man of understanding and knowledge.     For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.     בפשע  ארץ  רבים 
שריה  ובאדם  מבין
ידע  כן  יאריך׃
    BPhSh'y 'aUrTSh UrBYM ShUrYH VB'aDM MBYN YD'y KN Y'aUrYK.     By the transgression of a land many are its heads. And by an intelligent man, Who knoweth right -- it is prolonged.     propter peccata terrae multi principes eius et propter hominis sapientiam et horum scientiam quae dicuntur vita ducis longior erit
 
3.    A needy man who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain which leaves no crops.     A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.     גבר  רש  ועשק  דלים 
מטר  סחף  ואין  לחם׃
    GBUr UrSh V'yShQ DLYM MTUr SChPh V'aYN LChM.     A man -- poor and oppressing the weak, Is a sweeping rain, and there is no bread.     vir pauper calumnians pauperes similis imbri vehementi in quo paratur fames
 
4.    Those who forsake the law praise the wicked; but those who keep the law contend with them.     They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.     עזבי  תורה  יהללו 
רשע  ושמרי  תורה
יתגרו  בם׃
    'yZBY ThVUrH YHLLV UrSh'y VShMUrY ThVUrH YThGUrV BM.     Those forsaking the law praise the wicked, Those keeping the law plead against them.     qui derelinquunt legem laudant impium qui custodiunt succenduntur contra eum
 
5.    Evil men don't understand justice; but those who seek Yahweh understand it fully.     Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.     אנשי־רע  לא־יבינו 
משפט  ומבקשי  יהוה
יבינו  כל׃
    'aNShY-Ur'y L'a-YBYNV MShPhT VMBQShY YHVH YBYNV KL.     Evil men understand not judgment, And those seeking Jehovah understand all.     viri mali non cogitant iudicium qui autem requirunt Dominum animadvertunt omnia
 
6.    Better is the poor who walks in his integrity, than he who is perverse in his ways, and he is rich.     Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.     טוב־רש  הולך  בתמו 
מעקש  דרכים  והוא
עשיר׃
    TVB-UrSh HVLK BThMV M'yQSh DUrKYM VHV'a 'yShYUr.     Better is the poor walking in his integrity, Than the perverse of ways who is rich.     melior est pauper ambulans in simplicitate sua quam dives pravis itineribus
 
7.    Whoever keeps the law is a wise son; but he who is a companion of gluttons shames his father.     Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.     נוצר  תורה  בן  מבין 
ורעה  זוללים  יכלים
אביו׃
    NVTShUr ThVUrH BN MBYN VUr'yH ZVLLYM YKLYM 'aBYV.     Whoso is keeping the law is an intelligent son, And a friend of gluttons, Doth cause his father to blush.     qui custodit legem filius sapiens est qui pascit comesatores confundit patrem suum
 
8.    He who increases his wealth by excessive interest gathers it for one who has pity on the poor.     He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.     מרבה  הונו  בנשך 
ובתרבית  לחונן
דלים  יקבצנו׃
    MUrBH HVNV BNShK VBThUrBYTh LChVNN DLYM YQBTShNV.     Whoso is multiplying his wealth by biting and usury, For one favouring the poor doth gather it.     qui coacervat divitias usuris et fenore liberali in pauperes congregat eas
 
9.    He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.     He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.     מסיר  אזנו  משמע 
תורה  גם־תפלתו
תועבה׃
    MSYUr 'aZNV MShM'y ThVUrH GM-ThPhLThV ThV'yBH.     Whoso is turning his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is an abomination.     qui declinat aurem suam ne audiat legem oratio eius erit execrabilis
 
10.    Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, he will fall into his own trap; but the blameless will inherit good.     Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.     משגה  ישרים  בדרך 
רע  בשחותו
הוא־יפול  ותמימים
ינחלו־טוב׃
    MShGH YShUrYM BDUrK Ur'y BShChVThV HV'a-YPhVL VThMYMYM YNChLV-TVB.     Whoso is causing the upright to err in an evil way, Into his own pit he doth fall, And the perfect do inherit good.     qui decipit iustos in via mala in interitu suo corruet et simplices possidebunt bona
 
11.    The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor who has understanding sees through him.     The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.     חכם  בעיניו  איש 
עשיר  ודל  מבין
יחקרנו׃
    ChKM B'yYNYV 'aYSh 'yShYUr VDL MBYN YChQUrNV.     A rich man is wise in his own eyes, And the intelligent poor searcheth him.     sapiens sibi videtur vir dives pauper autem prudens scrutabitur eum
 
12.    When the righteous triumph, there is great glory; but when the wicked rise, men hide themselves.     When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.     בעלץ  צדיקים  רבה 
תפארת  ובקום  רשעים
יחפש  אדם׃
    B'yLTSh TShDYQYM UrBH ThPh'aUrTh VBQVM UrSh'yYM YChPhSh 'aDM.     In the exulting of the righteous the glory is abundant, And in the rising of the wicked man is apprehensive.     in exultatione iustorum multa gloria regnantibus impiis ruinae hominum
 
13.    He who conceals his sins doesn't prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.     He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.     מכסה  פשעיו  לא 
יצליח  ומודה  ועזב
ירחם׃
    MKSH PhSh'yYV L'a YTShLYCh VMVDH V'yZB YUrChM.     Whoso is covering his transgressions prospereth not, And he who is confessing and forsaking hath mercy.     qui abscondit scelera sua non dirigetur qui confessus fuerit et reliquerit ea misericordiam consequetur
 
14.    Blessed is the man who always fears; but one who hardens his heart falls into trouble.     Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.     אשרי  אדם  מפחד 
תמיד  ומקשה  לבו
יפול  ברעה׃
    'aShUrY 'aDM MPhChD ThMYD VMQShH LBV YPhVL BUr'yH.     O the happiness of a man fearing continually, And whoso is hardening his heart falleth into evil.     beatus homo qui semper est pavidus qui vero mentis est durae corruet in malum
 
15.    As a roaring lion or a charging bear, so is a wicked ruler over helpless people.     As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.     ארי־נהם  ודב  שוקק 
משל  רשע  על  עם־דל׃
    'aUrY-NHM VDB ShVQQ MShL UrSh'y 'yL 'yM-DL.     A growling lion, and a ranging bear, Is the wicked ruler over a poor people.     leo rugiens et ursus esuriens princeps impius super populum pauperem
 
16.    A tyrannical ruler lacks judgment. One who hates ill-gotten gain will have long days.     The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.     נגיד  חסר  תבונות 
ורב  מעשקות  שנאי
בצע  יאריך  ימים׃
    NGYD ChSUr ThBVNVTh VUrB M'yShQVTh ShN'aY BTSh'y Y'aUrYK YMYM.     A leader lacking understanding multiplieth oppressions, Whoso is hating dishonest gain prolongeth days.     dux indigens prudentia multos opprimet per calumniam qui autem odit avaritiam longi fient dies eius
 
17.    A man who is tormented by life blood will be a fugitive until death; no one will support him.     A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.     אדם  עשק  בדם־נפש 
עד־בור  ינוס
אל־יתמכו־בו׃
    'aDM 'yShQ BDM-NPhSh 'yD-BVUr YNVS 'aL-YThMKV-BV.     A man oppressed with the blood of a soul, Unto the pit fleeth, none taketh hold on him.     hominem qui calumniatur animae sanguinem si usque ad lacum fugerit nemo sustentet
 
18.    Whoever walks blamelessly is kept safe; but one with perverse ways will fall suddenly.     Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.     הולך  תמים  יושע 
ונעקש  דרכים  יפול
באחת׃
    HVLK ThMYM YVSh'y VN'yQSh DUrKYM YPhVL B'aChTh.     Whoso is walking uprightly is saved, And the perverted of ways falleth at once.     qui ambulat simpliciter salvus erit qui perversis ingreditur viis concidet semel
 
19.    One who works his land will have an abundance of food; but one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.     He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.     עבד  אדמתו 
ישבע־לחם  ומרדף
רקים  ישבע־ריש׃
    'yBD 'aDMThV YShB'y-LChM VMUrDPh UrQYM YShB'y-UrYSh.     Whoso is tilling his ground is satisfied with bread, And whoso is pursuing vanity, Is filled with poverty.     qui operatur terram suam saturabitur panibus qui sectatur otium replebitur egestate
 
20.    A faithful man is rich with blessings; but one who is eager to be rich will not go unpunished.     A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.     איש  אמונות 
רב־ברכות  ואץ
להעשיר  לא  ינקה׃
    'aYSh 'aMVNVTh UrB-BUrKVTh V'aTSh LH'yShYUr L'a YNQH.     A stedfast man hath multiplied blessings, And whoso is hasting to be rich is not acquitted.     vir fidelis multum laudabitur qui autem festinat ditari non erit innocens
 
21.    To show partiality is not good; yet a man will do wrong for a piece of bread.     To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.     הכר־פנים  לא־טוב 
ועל־פת־לחם
יפשע־גבר׃
    HKUr-PhNYM L'a-TVB V'yL-PhTh-LChM YPhSh'y-GBUr.     To discern faces is not good, And for a piece of bread doth a man transgress.     qui cognoscit in iudicio faciem non facit bene iste et pro buccella panis deserit veritatem
 
22.    A stingy man hurries after riches, and doesn't know that poverty waits for him.     He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.     נבהל  להון  איש  רע 
עין  ולא־ידע
כי־חסר  יבאנו׃
    NBHL LHVN 'aYSh Ur'y 'yYN VL'a-YD'y KY-ChSUr YB'aNV.     Troubled for wealth is the man with an evil eye, And he knoweth not that want doth meet him.     vir qui festinat ditari et aliis invidet ignorat quod egestas superveniat ei
 
23.    One who rebukes a man will afterward find more favor than one who flatters with the tongue.     He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.     מוכיח  אדם  אחרי  חן 
ימצא  ממחליק  לשון׃
    MVKYCh 'aDM 'aChUrY ChN YMTSh'a MMChLYQ LShVN.     Whoso is reproving a man afterwards findeth grace, More than a flatterer with the tongue.     qui corripit hominem gratiam postea inveniet apud eum magis quam ille qui per linguae blandimenta decipit
 
24.    Whoever robs his father or his mother, and says, "It's not wrong." He is a partner with a destroyer.     Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.     גוזל  אביו  ואמו 
ואמר  אין־פשע  חבר
הוא  לאיש  משחית׃
    GVZL 'aBYV V'aMV V'aMUr 'aYN-PhSh'y ChBUr HV'a L'aYSh MShChYTh.     Whoso is robbing his father, or his mother, And is saying, `It is not transgression,` A companion he is to a destroyer.     qui subtrahit aliquid a patre suo et matre et dicit hoc non est peccatum particeps homicidae est
 
25.    One who is greedy stirs up strife; but one who trusts in Yahweh will prosper.     He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.     רחב־נפש  יגרה  מדון 
ובוטח  על־יהוה
ידשן׃
    UrChB-NPhSh YGUrH MDVN VBVTCh 'yL-YHVH YDShN.     Whoso is proud in soul stirreth up contention, And whoso is trusting on Jehovah is made fat.     qui se iactat et dilatat iurgia concitat qui sperat in Domino saginabitur
 
26.    One who trusts in himself is a fool; but one who walks in wisdom is kept safe.     He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.     בוטח  בלבו  הוא 
כסיל  והולך  בחכמה
הוא  ימלט׃
    BVTCh BLBV HV'a KSYL VHVLK BChKMH HV'a YMLT.     Whoso is trusting in his heart is a fool, And whoso is walking in wisdom is delivered.     qui confidit in corde suo stultus est qui autem graditur sapienter iste salvabitur
 
27.    One who gives to the poor has no lack; but one who closes his eyes will have many curses.     He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.     נותן  לרש  אין 
מחסור  ומעלים
עיניו  רב־מארות׃
    NVThN LUrSh 'aYN MChSVUr VM'yLYM 'yYNYV UrB-M'aUrVTh.     Whoso is giving to the poor hath no lack, And whoso is hiding his eyes multiplied curses.     qui dat pauperi non indigebit qui despicit deprecantem sustinebit penuriam
 
28.    When the wicked rise, men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous thrive.     When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: but when they perish, the righteous increase.     בקום  רשעים  יסתר 
אדם  ובאבדם  ירבו
צדיקים׃
    BQVM UrSh'yYM YSThUr 'aDM VB'aBDM YUrBV TShDYQYM.     In the rising of the wicked a man is hidden, And in their destruction the righteous multiply!     cum surrexerint impii abscondentur homines cum illi perierint multiplicabuntur iusti
