1.    The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah, who were carried away captive to Babylon.     The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all that were carried away captive of Jerusalem and Judah, which were carried away captive unto Babylon.     הדבר  אשר־היה

    HDBUr 'aShUr-HYH 'aL-YUrMYHV M'aTh YHVH 'aChUr ShLCh 'aThV NBVZUr'aDN UrB-TBChYM MN-HUrMH BQChThV 'aThV VHV'a-'aSVUr B'aZQYM BThVK KL-GLVTh YUrVShLM VYHVDH HMGLYM BBLH.     The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, after Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, hath sent him from Ramah, in his taking him -- and he a prisoner in chains -- in the midst of all the removal of Jerusalem and of Judah, who are removed to Babylon.     sermo qui factus est ad Hieremiam a Domino postquam dimissus est a Nabuzardan magistro militiae de Rama quando tulit eum vinctum catenis in medio omnium qui migrabant de Hierusalem et Iuda et ducebantur in Babylonem
 
2.    The captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said to him, Yahweh your God pronounced this evil on this place;     And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said unto him, The LORD thy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place.     ויקח  רב־טבחים 
לירמיהו  ויאמר
אליו  יהוה  אלהיך
דבר  את־הרעה  הזאת
אל־המקום  הזה׃
    VYQCh UrB-TBChYM LYUrMYHV VY'aMUr 'aLYV YHVH 'aLHYK DBUr 'aTh-HUr'yH HZ'aTh 'aL-HMQVM HZH.     And the chief of the executioners taketh Jeremiah, and saith unto him, `Jehovah thy God hath spoken this evil concerning this place,     tollens ergo princeps militiae Hieremiam dixit ad eum Dominus Deus tuus locutus est malum hoc super locum istum
 
3.    and Yahweh has brought it, and done according as he spoke: because you have sinned against Yahweh, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing has come on you.     Now the LORD hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.     ויבא  ויעש  יהוה 
כאשר  דבר  כי־חטאתם
ליהוה  ולא־שמעתם
בקולו  והיה  לכם
דבר  הזה׃
    VYB'a VY'ySh YHVH K'aShUr DBUr KY-ChT'aThM LYHVH VL'a-ShM'yThM BQVLV VHYH LKM DBUr HZH.     and Jehovah bringeth it in, and doth as He spake, because ye have sinned against Jehovah, and have not hearkened to His voice, even this thing hath been to you.     et adduxit et fecit Dominus sicut locutus est quia peccastis Domino et non audistis vocem eius et factus est vobis sermo hic
 
4.    Now, behold, I release you this day from the chains which are on your hand. If it seems good to you to come with me into Babylon, come, and I will take care of you; but if it seems bad to you to come with me into Babylon, don't: behold, all the land is before you; where it seems good and right to you to go, there go.     And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.     ועתה  הנה  פתחתיך 
היום  מן־האזקים
אשר  על־ידך  אם־טוב
בעיניך  לבוא  אתי
בבל  בא  ואשים
את־עיני  עליך
ואם־רע  בעיניך
לבוא־אתי  בבל  חדל
ראה  כל־הארץ  לפניך
אל־טוב  ואל־הישר
בעיניך  ללכת  שמה
לך׃
    V'yThH HNH PhThChThYK HYVM MN-H'aZQYM 'aShUr 'yL-YDK 'aM-TVB B'yYNYK LBV'a 'aThY BBL B'a V'aShYM 'aTh-'yYNY 'yLYK V'aM-Ur'y B'yYNYK LBV'a-'aThY BBL ChDL Ur'aH KL-H'aUrTSh LPhNYK 'aL-TVB V'aL-HYShUr B'yYNYK LLKTh ShMH LK.     `And now, lo, I have loosed thee to-day from the chains that are on thy hand; if good in thine eyes to come with me to Babylon, come, and I keep mine eye upon thee: and if evil in thine eyes to come with me to Babylon, forbear; see, all the land is before thee, whither it be good, and whither it be right in thine eyes to go -- go.` --     nunc ergo ecce solvi te hodie de catenis quae sunt in manibus tuis si placet tibi ut venias mecum in Babylonem veni et ponam oculos meos super te si autem displicet tibi venire mecum in Babylonem reside ecce omnis terra in conspectu tuo quod elegeris et quo placuerit tibi ut vadas illuc perge
 
5.    Now while he was not yet gone back, Go back then, [said he], to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people; or go wherever it seems right to you to go. So the captain of the guard gave him food and a present, and let him go.     Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a reward, and let him go.     ועודנו  לא־ישוב 
ושבה  אל־גדליה
בן־אחיקם  בן־שפן
אשר  הפקיד  מלך־
בבל  בערי  יהודה
ושב  אתו  בתוך  העם
או  אל־כל־הישר
בעיניך  ללכת  לך
ויתן־לו  רב־טבחים
ארחה  ומשאת
וישלחהו׃
    V'yVDNV L'a-YShVB VShBH 'aL-GDLYH BN-'aChYQM BN-ShPhN 'aShUr HPhQYD MLK- BBL B'yUrY YHVDH VShB 'aThV BThVK H'yM 'aV 'aL-KL-HYShUr B'yYNYK LLKTh LK VYThN-LV UrB-TBChYM 'aUrChH VMSh'aTh VYShLChHV.     and while he doth not reply -- `Or turn back unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him in the midst of the people, or whithersoever it is right in thine eyes to go -- go.` And the chief of the executioners giveth to him for the way, and a gift, and sendeth him away,     et mecum noli venire sed habita apud Godoliam filium Ahicam filii Saphan quem praeposuit rex Babylonis civitatibus Iudaeae habita ergo cum eo in medio populi vel quocumque placuerit tibi ut vadas vade dedit quoque ei magister militiae cibaria et munuscula et dimisit eum
 
6.    Then went Jeremiah to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah, and lived with him among the people who were left in the land.     Then went Jeremiah unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land.     ויבא  ירמיהו 
אל־גדליה  בן־אחיקם
המצפתה  וישב  אתו
בתוך  העם  הנשארים
בארץ׃
    VYB'a YUrMYHV 'aL-GDLYH BN-'aChYQM HMTShPhThH VYShB 'aThV BThVK H'yM HNSh'aUrYM B'aUrTSh.     and Jeremiah cometh in unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelleth with him, in the midst of the people who are left in the land.     venit autem Hieremias ad Godoliam filium Ahicam in Masphat et habitavit cum eo in medio populi qui relictus fuerat in terra
 
7.    Now when all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, and women, and children, and of the poorest of the land, of those who were not carried away captive to Babylon;     Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon;     וישמעו  כל־שרי 
החילים  אשר  בשדה
המה  ואנשיהם
כי־הפקיד  מלך־בבל
את־  גדליהו
בן־אחיקם  בארץ  וכי
הפקיד  אתו  אנשים
ונשים  וטף  ומדלת
הארץ  מאשר  לא־הגלו
בבלה׃
    VYShM'yV KL-ShUrY HChYLYM 'aShUr BShDH HMH V'aNShYHM KY-HPhQYD MLK-BBL 'aTh- GDLYHV BN-'aChYQM B'aUrTSh VKY HPhQYD 'aThV 'aNShYM VNShYM VTPh VMDLTh H'aUrTSh M'aShUr L'a-HGLV BBLH.     And all the heads of the forces that are in the field hear, they and their men, that the king of Babylon hath appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land, and that he hath charged him with men, and women, and infants, and of the poor of the land, of those who have not been removed to Babylon;     cum ergo audissent omnes principes exercitus qui dispersi fuerant per regiones ipsi et socii eorum quod praefecisset rex Babylonis Godoliam filium Ahicam terrae et quod commendasset ei viros et mulieres et parvulos et de pauperibus terrae qui non fuerant translati in Babylonem
 
8.    then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, [to wit], Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of the Maacathite, they and their men.     Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.     ויבאו  אל־גדליה 
המצפתה  וישמעאל
בן־נתניהו  ויוחנן
ויונתן  בני־קרח
ושריה  בן־תנחמת
ובני  עופי  הנטפתי
ויזניהו  בן־המעכתי
המה  ואנשיהם׃
    VYB'aV 'aL-GDLYH HMTShPhThH VYShM'y'aL BN-NThNYHV VYVChNN VYVNThN BNY-QUrCh VShUrYH BN-ThNChMTh VBNY 'yVPhY HNTPhThY VYZNYHV BN-HM'yKThY HMH V'aNShYHM.     and they come in unto Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan sons of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maachathite, they and their men.     venerunt ad Godoliam in Masphat et Ismahel filius Nathaniae et Iohanan et Ionathan filii Caree et Sareas filius Thenoemeth et filii Offi qui erat de Nethophathi et Iezonias filius Maachathi ipsi et viri eorum
 
9.    Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore to them and to their men, saying, Don't be afraid to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.     And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan sware unto them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.     וישבע  להם  גדליהו 
בן־אחיקם  בן־שפן
ולאנשיהם  לאמר
אל־תיראו  מעבוד
הכשדים  שבו  בארץ
ועבדו  את־מלך  בבל
וייטב  לכם׃
    VYShB'y LHM GDLYHV BN-'aChYQM BN-ShPhN VL'aNShYHM L'aMUr 'aL-ThYUr'aV M'yBVD HKShDYM ShBV B'aUrTSh V'yBDV 'aTh-MLK BBL VYYTB LKM.     And swear to them doth Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, and to their men, saying, `Be not afraid of serving the Chaldeans, abide in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it is well for you;     et iuravit eis Godolias filius Ahicam filii Saphan et comitibus eorum dicens nolite timere servire Chaldeis habitate in terra et servite regi Babylonis et bene erit vobis
 
10.    As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who shall come to us: but you, gather wine and summer fruits and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken.     As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.     ואני  הנני  ישב 
במצפה  לעמד  לפני
הכשדים  אשר  יבאו
אלינו  ואתם  אספו
יין  וקיץ  ושמן
ושמו  בכליכם  ושבו
בעריכם  אשר־תפשתם׃
    V'aNY HNNY YShB BMTShPhH L'yMD LPhNY HKShDYM 'aShUr YB'aV 'aLYNV V'aThM 'aSPhV YYN VQYTSh VShMN VShMV BKLYKM VShBV B'yUrYKM 'aShUr-ThPhShThM.     and I, lo, I am dwelling in Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who are come in unto us, and ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruit, and oil, and put in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.`     ecce ego habito in Masphat ut respondeam praecepto Chaldeorum qui mittuntur ad nos vos autem colligite vindemiam et messem et oleum et condite in vasis vestris et manete in urbibus vestris quas tenetis
 
11.    Likewise when all the Jews who were in Moab, and among the children of Ammon, and in Edom, and who were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan;     Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan;     וגם  כל־היהודים 
אשר־במואב
ובבני־עמון  ובאדום
ואשר  בכל־הארצות
שמעו  כי־נתן
מלך־בבל  שארית
ליהודה  וכי  הפקיד
עליהם  את־גדליהו
בן־  אחיקם  בן־שפן׃
    VGM KL-HYHVDYM 'aShUr-BMV'aB VBBNY-'yMVN VB'aDVM V'aShUr BKL-H'aUrTShVTh ShM'yV KY-NThN MLK-BBL Sh'aUrYTh LYHVDH VKY HPhQYD 'yLYHM 'aTh-GDLYHV BN- 'aChYQM BN-ShPhN.     And also all the Jews who are in Moab, and among the sons of Ammon, and in Edom, and who are in all the lands, have heard that the king of Babylon hath given a remnant to Judah, and that he hath appointed over them Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan,     sed et omnes Iudaei qui erant in Moab et in filiis Ammon et in Idumea et in universis regionibus audito quod dedisset rex Babylonis reliquias in Iudaeam et quod praeposuisset super eos Godoliam filium Ahicam filii Saphan
 
12.    then all the Jews returned out of all places where they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.     Even all the Jews returned out of all places whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, unto Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.     וישבו  כל־היהודים 
מכל־המקמות  אשר
נדחו־שם  ויבאו
ארץ־יהודה  אל־
גדליהו  המצפתה
ויאספו  יין  וקיץ
הרבה  מאד׃
    VYShBV KL-HYHVDYM MKL-HMQMVTh 'aShUr NDChV-ShM VYB'aV 'aUrTSh-YHVDH 'aL- GDLYHV HMTShPhThH VY'aSPhV YYN VQYTSh HUrBH M'aD.     and all the Jews from all the places whither they have been driven, turn back and enter the land of Judah, unto Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and they gather wine and summer fruit -- very much.     reversi sunt inquam omnes Iudaei de universis locis ad quae profugerant et venerunt in terram Iuda ad Godoliam in Masphat et collegerunt vinum et messem multam nimis
 
13.    Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,     Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,     ויוחנן  בן־קרח 
וכל־שרי  החילים
אשר  בשדה  באו
אל־גדליהו  המצפתה׃
    VYVChNN BN-QUrCh VKL-ShUrY HChYLYM 'aShUr BShDH B'aV 'aL-GDLYHV HMTShPhThH.     And Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces that are in the field, have come in unto Gedaliah to Mizpah,     Iohanan autem filius Caree et omnes principes exercitus qui dispersi erant in regionibus venerunt ad Godoliam in Masphat
 
14.    and said to him, Do you know that Baalis the king of the children of Ammon has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam didn't believe them.     And said unto him, Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not.     ויאמרו  אליו  הידע 
תדע  כי  בעליס  מלך
בני־עמון  שלח
את־ישמעאל  בן־
נתניה  להכתך  נפש
ולא־האמין  להם
גדליהו  בן־אחיקם׃
    VY'aMUrV 'aLYV HYD'y ThD'y KY B'yLYS MLK BNY-'yMVN ShLCh 'aTh-YShM'y'aL BN- NThNYH LHKThK NPhSh VL'a-H'aMYN LHM GDLYHV BN-'aChYQM.     and they say unto him, `Dost thou really know that Baalis king of the sons of Ammon hath sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to smite thy soul?` And Gedaliah son of Ahikam hath not given to them credence.     et dixerunt ei scito quia Baalis rex filiorum Ammon misit Ismahel filium Nathaniae percutere animam tuam et non credidit eis Godolias filius Ahicam
 
15.    Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Please let me go, and I will kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: why should he take your life, that all the Jews who are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant of Judah perish?     Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?     ויוחנן  בן־קרח  אמר 
אל־גדליהו  בסתר
במצפה  לאמר  אלכה
נא  ואכה  את־
ישמעאל  בן־נתניה
ואיש  לא  ידע  למה
יככה  נפש  ונפצו
כל־יהודה  הנקבצים
אליך  ואבדה  שארית
יהודה׃
    VYVChNN BN-QUrCh 'aMUr 'aL-GDLYHV BSThUr BMTShPhH L'aMUr 'aLKH N'a V'aKH 'aTh- YShM'y'aL BN-NThNYH V'aYSh L'a YD'y LMH YKKH NPhSh VNPhTShV KL-YHVDH HNQBTShYM 'aLYK V'aBDH Sh'aUrYTh YHVDH.     And Johanan son of Kareah hath spoken unto Gedaliah in secret, in Mizpah, saying, `Let me go, I pray thee, and I smite Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and no one doth know; why doth he smite thy soul? and scattered have been all Judah who are gathered unto thee, and perished hath the remnant of Judah.`     Iohanan vero filius Caree dixit ad Godoliam seorsum in Masphat loquens ibo et percutiam Ismahel filium Nathaniae nullo sciente ne interficiat animam tuam et dissipentur omnes Iudaei qui congregati sunt ad te et peribunt reliquiae Iuda
 
16.    But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, You shall not do this thing; for you speak falsely of Ishmael.     But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, Thou shalt not do this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.     ויאמר  גדליהו 
בן־אחיקם  אל־יוחנן
בן־קרח  אל־תעש
את־הדבר  הזה  כי־
שקר  אתה  דבר
אל־ישמעאל׃
    VY'aMUr GDLYHV BN-'aChYQM 'aL-YVChNN BN-QUrCh 'aL-Th'ySh 'aTh-HDBUr HZH KY- ShQUr 'aThH DBUr 'aL-YShM'y'aL.     And Gedaliah son of Ahikam saith unto Johanan son of Kareah, `Thou dost not do this thing, for falsehood thou art speaking concerning Ishmael.`     et ait Godolias filius Ahicam ad Iohanan filium Caree noli facere verbum hoc falsum enim tu loqueris de Ismahel
