1.    In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, even to me, Daniel, after that which appeared to me at the first.     In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto me, even unto me Daniel, after that which appeared unto me at the first.     בשנת  שלוש  למלכות

    BShNTh ShLVSh LMLKVTh BL'aShTShUr HMLK ChZVN NUr'aH 'aLY 'aNY DNY'aL 'aChUrY HNUr'aH 'aLY BThChLH.     `In the third year of the reign of Belshazzar the king, a vision hath appeared unto me -- I Daniel -- after that which had appeared unto me at the beginning.    
 
2.    I saw in the vision; now it was so, that when I saw, I was in the citadel of Susa, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in the vision, and I was by the river Ulai.     And I saw in a vision; and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was at Shushan in the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a vision, and I was by the river of Ulai.     ואראה  בחזון  ויהי 
בראתי  ואני  בשושן
הבירה  אשר  בעילם
המדינה  ואראה
בחזון  ואני  הייתי
על־אובל  אולי׃
    V'aUr'aH BChZVN VYHY BUr'aThY V'aNY BShVShN HBYUrH 'aShUr B'yYLM HMDYNH V'aUr'aH BChZVN V'aNY HYYThY 'yL-'aVBL 'aVLY.     And I see in a vision, and it cometh to pass, in my seeing, and I am in Shushan the palace that is in Elam the province, and I see in a vision, and I have been by the stream Ulai.    
 
3.    Then I lifted up my eyes, and saw, and behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.     Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.     ואשא  עיני  ואראה 
והנה  איל  אחד  עמד
לפני  האבל  ולו
קרנים  והקרנים
גבהות  והאחת  גבהה
מן־השנית  והגבהה
עלה  באחרנה׃
    V'aSh'a 'yYNY V'aUr'aH VHNH 'aYL 'aChD 'yMD LPhNY H'aBL VLV QUrNYM VHQUrNYM GBHVTh VH'aChTh GBHH MN-HShNYTh VHGBHH 'yLH B'aChUrNH.     And I lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, a certain ram is standing before the stream, and it hath two horns, and the two horns are high; and the one is higher than the other, and the high one is coming up last.    
 
4.    I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; and no animals could stand before him, neither was there any who could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and magnified himself.     I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.     ראיתי  את־האיל 
מנגח  ימה  וצפונה
ונגבה  וכל־חיות
לא־יעמדו  לפניו
ואין  מציל  מידו
ועשה  כרצנו
והגדיל׃
    Ur'aYThY 'aTh-H'aYL MNGCh YMH VTShPhVNH VNGBH VKL-ChYVTh L'a-Y'yMDV LPhNYV V'aYN MTShYL MYDV V'yShH KUrTShNV VHGDYL.     I have seen the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward, and no living creatures do stand before it, and there is none delivering out of its hand, and it hath done according to its pleasure, and hath exerted itself.    
 
5.    As I was considering, behold, a male goat came from the west over the surface of the whole earth, and didn't touch the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.     And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.     ואני  הייתי  מבין 
והנה  צפיר־העזים
בא  מן־המערב
על־פני  כל־הארץ
ואין  נוגע  בארץ
והצפיר  קרן  חזות
בין  עיניו׃
    V'aNY HYYThY MBYN VHNH TShPhYUr-H'yZYM B'a MN-HM'yUrB 'yL-PhNY KL-H'aUrTSh V'aYN NVG'y B'aUrTSh VHTShPhYUr QUrN ChZVTh BYN 'yYNYV.     `And I have been considering, and lo, a young he-goat hath come from the west, over the face of the whole earth, whom none is touching in the earth; as to the young he-goat, a conspicuous horn is between its eyes.    
 
6.    He came to the ram that had the two horns, which I saw standing before the river, and ran on him in the fury of his power.     And he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing before the river, and ran unto him in the fury of his power.     ויבא  עד־האיל  בעל 
הקרנים  אשר  ראיתי
עמד  לפני  האבל
וירץ  אליו  בחמת
כחו׃
    VYB'a 'yD-H'aYL B'yL HQUrNYM 'aShUr Ur'aYThY 'yMD LPhNY H'aBL VYUrTSh 'aLYV BChMTh KChV.     And it cometh unto the ram possessing the two horns, that I had seen standing before the stream, and runneth unto it in the fury of its power.    
 
7.    I saw him come close to the ram, and he was moved with anger against him, and struck the ram, and broke his two horns; and there was no power in the ram to stand before him; but he cast him down to the ground, and trampled on him; and there was none who could deliver the ram out of his hand.     And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with choler against him, and smote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand.     וראיתיו  מגיע  אצל 
האיל  ויתמרמר  אליו
ויך  את־האיל  וישבר
את־שתי  קרניו
ולא־היה  כח  באיל
לעמד  לפניו
וישליכהו  ארצה
וירמסהו  ולא־היה
מציל  לאיל  מידו׃
    VUr'aYThYV MGY'y 'aTShL H'aYL VYThMUrMUr 'aLYV VYK 'aTh-H'aYL VYShBUr 'aTh-ShThY QUrNYV VL'a-HYH KCh B'aYL L'yMD LPhNYV VYShLYKHV 'aUrTShH VYUrMSHV VL'a-HYH MTShYL L'aYL MYDV.     And I have seen it coming near the ram, and it becometh embittered at it, and smiteth the ram, and breaketh its two horns, and there hath been no power in the ram to stand before it, and it casteth it to the earth, and trampleth it down, and there hath been no deliverer to the ram out of its power.    
 
8.    The male goat magnified himself exceedingly: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and instead of it there came up four notable [horns] toward the four winds of the sky.     Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.     וצפיר  העזים  הגדיל 
עד־מאד  וכעצמו
נשברה  הקרן  הגדולה
ותעלנה  חזות  ארבע
תחתיה  לארבע  רוחות
השמים׃
    VTShPhYUr H'yZYM HGDYL 'yD-M'aD VK'yTShMV NShBUrH HQUrN HGDVLH VTh'yLNH ChZVTh 'aUrB'y ThChThYH L'aUrB'y UrVChVTh HShMYM.     `And the young he-goat hath exerted itself very much, and when it is strong, broken hath been the great horn; and come up doth a vision of four in its place, at the four winds of the heavens.    
 
9.    Out of one of them came forth a little horn, which grew exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the glorious [land].     And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.     ומן־האחת  מהם  יצא 
קרן־אחת  מצעירה
ותגדל־יתר  אל־הנגב
ואל־המזרח
ואל־הצבי׃
    VMN-H'aChTh MHM YTSh'a QUrN-'aChTh MTSh'yYUrH VThGDL-YThUr 'aL-HNGB V'aL-HMZUrCh V'aL-HTShBY.     And from the one of them come forth hath a little horn, and it exerteth itself greatly toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the beauteous land;    
 
10.    It grew great, even to the army of the sky; and some of the army and of the stars it cast down to the ground, and trampled on them.     And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them.     ותגדל  עד־צבא 
השמים  ותפל  ארצה
מן־הצבא
ומן־הכוכבים
ותרמסם׃
    VThGDL 'yD-TShB'a HShMYM VThPhL 'aUrTShH MN-HTShB'a VMN-HKVKBYM VThUrMSM.     yea, it exerteth unto the host of the heavens, and causeth to fall to the earth of the host, and of the stars, and trampleth them down.    
 
11.    Yes, it magnified itself, even to the prince of the army; and it took away from him the continual [burnt offering], and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.     Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.     ועד  שר־הצבא  הגדיל 
וממנו  הרים  התמיד
והשלך  מכון  מקדשו׃
    V'yD ShUr-HTShB'a HGDYL VMMNV HUrYM HThMYD VHShLK MKVN MQDShV.     And unto the prince of the host it exerteth itself, and by it taken away hath been the continual sacrifice, and thrown down the base of his sanctuary.    
 
12.    The army was given over [to it] together with the continual [burnt offering] through disobedience; and it cast down truth to the ground, and it did [its pleasure] and prospered.     And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.     וצבא  תנתן 
על־התמיד  בפשע
ותשלך  אמת  ארצה
ועשתה  והצליחה׃
    VTShB'a ThNThN 'yL-HThMYD BPhSh'y VThShLK 'aMTh 'aUrTShH V'yShThH VHTShLYChH.     And the host is given up, with the continual sacrifice, through transgression, and it throweth down truth to the earth, and it hath worked, and prospered.    
 
13.    Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said to that certain one who spoke, How long shall be the vision [concerning] the continual [burnt offering], and the disobedience that makes desolate, to give both the sanctuary and the army to be trodden under foot?     Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?     ואשמעה  אחד־קדוש 
מדבר  ויאמר  אחד
קדוש  לפלמוני
המדבר  עד־מתי
החזון  התמיד  והפשע
שמם  תת  וקדש  וצבא
מרמס׃
    V'aShM'yH 'aChD-QDVSh MDBUr VY'aMUr 'aChD QDVSh LPhLMVNY HMDBUr 'yD-MThY HChZVN HThMYD VHPhSh'y ShMM ThTh VQDSh VTShB'a MUrMS.     `And I hear a certain holy one speaking, and a certain holy one saith to the wonderful numberer who is speaking: Till when is the vision of the continual sacrifice, and of the transgression, an astonishment, to make both sanctuary and host a treading down?    
 
14.    He said to me, To two thousand and three hundred evenings [and] mornings; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.     And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.     ויאמר  אלי  עד  ערב 
בקר  אלפים  ושלש
מאות  ונצדק  קדש׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLY 'yD 'yUrB BQUr 'aLPhYM VShLSh M'aVTh VNTShDQ QDSh.     And he saith unto me, Till evening -- morning two thousand and three hundred, then is the holy place declared right.    
 
15.    It happened, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, that I sought to understand it; and behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.     And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.     ויהי  בראתי  אני 
דניאל  את־החזון
ואבקשה  בינה  והנה
עמד  לנגדי
כמראה־גבר׃
    VYHY BUr'aThY 'aNY DNY'aL 'aTh-HChZVN V'aBQShH BYNH VHNH 'yMD LNGDY KMUr'aH-GBUr.     `And it cometh to pass in my seeing -- I, Daniel -- the vision, that I require understanding, and lo, standing over-against me is as the appearance of a mighty one.    
 
16.    I heard a man's voice between [the banks of] the Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.     And I heard a man's voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.     ואשמע  קול־אדם  בין 
אולי  ויקרא  ויאמר
גבריאל  הבן  להלז
את־המראה׃
    V'aShM'y QVL-'aDM BYN 'aVLY VYQUr'a VY'aMUr GBUrY'aL HBN LHLZ 'aTh-HMUr'aH.     And I hear a voice of man between the banks of Ulai, and he calleth and saith: Gabriel, cause this one to understand the appearance.    
 
17.    So he came near where I stood; and when he came, I was frightened, and fell on my face: but he said to me, Understand, son of man; for the vision belongs to the time of the end.     So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision.     ויבא  אצל  עמדי 
ובבאו  נבעתי  ואפלה
על־פני  ויאמר  אלי
הבן  בן־אדם  כי
לעת־קץ  החזון׃
    VYB'a 'aTShL 'yMDY VBB'aV NB'yThY V'aPhLH 'yL-PhNY VY'aMUr 'aLY HBN BN-'aDM KY L'yTh-QTSh HChZVN.     And he cometh in near my station, and at his coming in I have been afraid, and I fall on my face, and he saith unto me: Understand, son of man, for at the time of the end is the vision.    
 
18.    Now as he was speaking with me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face toward the ground; but he touched me, and set me upright.     Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.     ובדברו  עמי  נרדמתי 
על־פני  ארצה
ויגע־בי  ויעמידני
על־עמדי׃
    VBDBUrV 'yMY NUrDMThY 'yL-PhNY 'aUrTShH VYG'y-BY VY'yMYDNY 'yL-'yMDY.     And in his speaking with me, I have been in a trance on my face, on the earth; and he cometh against me, and causeth me to stand on my station,    
 
19.    He said, Behold, I will make you know what shall be in the latter time of the indignation; for it belongs to the appointed time of the end.     And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.     ויאמר  הנני  מודיעך 
את  אשר־יהיה
באחרית  הזעם  כי
למועד  קץ׃
    VY'aMUr HNNY MVDY'yK 'aTh 'aShUr-YHYH B'aChUrYTh HZ'yM KY LMV'yD QTSh.     and saith: Lo, I -- I am causing thee to know that which is in the latter end of the indignation; for, at the appointed time is the end.    
 
20.    The ram which you saw, that had the two horns, they are the kings of Media and Persia.     The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.     האיל  אשר־ראית  בעל 
הקרנים  מלכי  מדי
ופרס׃
    H'aYL 'aShUr-Ur'aYTh B'yL HQUrNYM MLKY MDY VPhUrS.     `The ram that thou hast seen possessing two horns, are the kings of Media and Persia.    
 
21.    The rough male goat is the king of Greece: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.     And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.     והצפיר  השעיר  מלך 
יון  והקרן  הגדולה
אשר  בין־עיניו  הוא
המלך  הראשון׃
    VHTShPhYUr HSh'yYUr MLK YVN VHQUrN HGDVLH 'aShUr BYN-'yYNYV HV'a HMLK HUr'aShVN.     And the young he-goat, the hairy one, is the king of Javan; and the great horn that is between its eyes is the first king;    
 
22.    As for that which was broken, in the place where four stood up, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not with his power.     Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.     והנשברת  ותעמדנה 
ארבע  תחתיה  ארבע
מלכיות  מגוי
יעמדנה  ולא  בכחו׃
    VHNShBUrTh VTh'yMDNH 'aUrB'y ThChThYH 'aUrB'y MLKYVTh MGVY Y'yMDNH VL'a BKChV.     and that being broken, stand up do four in its place, four kingdoms from the nation do stand up, and not in its power.    
 
23.    In the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce face, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.     And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.     ובאחרית  מלכותם 
כהתם  הפשעים  יעמד
מלך  עז־פנים  ומבין
חידות׃
    VB'aChUrYTh MLKVThM KHThM HPhSh'yYM Y'yMD MLK 'yZ-PhNYM VMBYN ChYDVTh.     `And in the latter end of their kingdom, about the perfecting of the transgressors, stand up doth a king, fierce of face, and understanding hidden things;    
 
24.    His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power; and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper and do [his pleasure]; and he shall destroy the mighty ones and the holy people.     And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.     ועצם  כחו  ולא  בכחו 
ונפלאות  ישחית
והצליח  ועשה
והשחית  עצומים
ועם־קדשים׃
    V'yTShM KChV VL'a BKChV VNPhL'aVTh YShChYTh VHTShLYCh V'yShH VHShChYTh 'yTShVMYM V'yM-QDShYM.     and his power hath been mighty, and not by his own power; and wonderful things he destroyeth, and he hath prospered, and wrought, and destroyed mighty ones, and the people of the Holy Ones.    
 
25.    Through his policy he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and in [their] security shall he destroy many: he shall also stand up against the prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.     And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.     ועל־שכלו  והצליח 
מרמה  בידו  ובלבבו
יגדיל  ובשלוה
ישחית  רבים  ועל־
שר־שרים  יעמד
ובאפס  יד  ישבר׃
    V'yL-ShKLV VHTShLYCh MUrMH BYDV VBLBBV YGDYL VBShLVH YShChYTh UrBYM V'yL- ShUr-ShUrYM Y'yMD VB'aPhS YD YShBUr.     `And by his understanding he hath also caused deceit to prosper in his hand, and in his heart he exerteth himself, and by ease he destroyeth many; and against the prince of princes he standeth -- and without hand he is broken.    
 
26.    The vision of the evenings and mornings which has been told is true: but seal up the vision; for it belongs to many days [to come].     And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.     ומראה  הערב  והבקר 
אשר  נאמר  אמת  הוא
ואתה  סתם  החזון  כי
לימים  רבים׃
    VMUr'aH H'yUrB VHBQUr 'aShUr N'aMUr 'aMTh HV'a V'aThH SThM HChZVN KY LYMYM UrBYM.     And the appearance of the evening and of the morning, that is told, is true; and thou, hide thou the vision, for it is after many days.`    
 
27.    I, Daniel, fainted, and was sick certain days; then I rose up, and did the king's business: and I wondered at the vision, but none understood it.     And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king's business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it.     ואני  דניאל  נהייתי 
ונחליתי  ימים
ואקום  ואעשה
את־מלאכת  המלך
ואשתומם  על־המראה
ואין  מבין׃
    V'aNY DNY'aL NHYYThY VNChLYThY YMYM V'aQVM V'a'yShH 'aTh-ML'aKTh HMLK V'aShThVMM 'yL-HMUr'aH V'aYN MBYN.     And I, Daniel, have been, yea, I became sick for days, and I rise, and do the king`s work, and am astonished at the appearance, and there is none understanding.
