    VYB'aV BNY-YShUr'aL KL-H'yDH MDBUr-TShN BChDSh HUr'aShVN VYShB H'yM BQDSh VThMTh ShM MUrYM VThQBUr ShM.     And the sons of Israel come in, -- all the company -- to the wilderness of Zin, in the first month, and the people abide in Kadesh, and Miriam dieth there, and is buried there.     veneruntque filii Israhel et omnis multitudo in desertum Sin mense primo et mansit populus in Cades mortuaque est ibi Maria et sepulta in eodem loco
 
2.    There was no water for the congregation: and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.     And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.     ולא־היה  מים  לעדה 
ויקהלו  על־משה
ועל־אהרן׃
    VL'a-HYH MYM L'yDH VYQHLV 'yL-MShH V'yL-'aHUrN.     And there hath been no water for the company, and they are assembled against Moses, and against Aaron,     cumque indigeret aqua populus coierunt adversum Mosen et Aaron
 
3.    The people strove with Moses, and spoke, saying, "We wish that we had died when our brothers died before Yahweh!     And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!     וירב  העם  עם־משה 
ויאמרו  לאמר  ולו
גוענו  בגוע  אחינו
לפני  יהוה׃
    VYUrB H'yM 'yM-MShH VY'aMUrV L'aMUr VLV GV'yNV BGV'y 'aChYNV LPhNY YHVH.     and the people strive with Moses, and speak, saying, `And oh that we had expired when our brethren expired before Jehovah!     et versi in seditionem dixerunt utinam perissemus inter fratres nostros coram Domino
 
4.    Why have you brought the assembly of Yahweh into this wilderness, that we should die there, we and our animals?     And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?     ולמה  הבאתם  את־קהל 
יהוה  אל־המדבר  הזה
למות  שם  אנחנו
ובעירנו׃
    VLMH HB'aThM 'aTh-QHL YHVH 'aL-HMDBUr HZH LMVTh ShM 'aNChNV VB'yYUrNV.     and why have ye brought in the assembly of Jehovah unto this wilderness to die there, we and our beasts?     cur eduxistis ecclesiam Domini in solitudinem ut et nos et nostra iumenta moriantur
 
5.    Why have you made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in to this evil place? It is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink."     And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.     ולמה  העליתנו 
ממצרים  להביא  אתנו
אל־המקום  הרע  הזה
לא  מקום  זרע  ותאנה
וגפן  ורמון  ומים
אין  לשתות׃
    VLMH H'yLYThNV MMTShUrYM LHBY'a 'aThNV 'aL-HMQVM HUr'y HZH L'a MQVM ZUr'y VTh'aNH VGPhN VUrMVN VMYM 'aYN LShThVTh.     and why hast thou brought us up out of Egypt to bring us in unto this evil place? no place of seed, and fig, and vine, and pomegranate; and water there is none to drink.     quare nos fecistis ascendere de Aegypto et adduxistis in locum istum pessimum qui seri non potest qui nec ficum gignit nec vineas nec mala granata insuper et aquam non habet ad bibendum
 
6.    Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and fell on their faces: and the glory of Yahweh appeared to them.     And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.     ויבא  משה  ואהרן 
מפני  הקהל  אל־פתח
אהל  מועד  ויפלו
על־פניהם  וירא
כבוד־יהוה  אליהם׃
    VYB'a MShH V'aHUrN MPhNY HQHL 'aL-PhThCh 'aHL MV'yD VYPhLV 'yL-PhNYHM VYUr'a KBVD-YHVH 'aLYHM.     And Moses and Aaron go in from the presence of the assembly unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and fall on their faces, and the honour of Jehovah is seen by them.     ingressusque Moses et Aaron dimissa multitudine tabernaculum foederis corruerunt proni in terram et apparuit gloria Domini super eos
 
7.    Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,     And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,     וידבר  יהוה  אל־משה 
לאמר׃
    VYDBUr YHVH 'aL-MShH L'aMUr.     And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,     locutusque est Dominus ad Mosen dicens
 
8.    "Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it give forth its water; and you shall bring forth to them water out of the rock; so you shall give the congregation and their livestock drink."     Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.     קח  את־המטה  והקהל 
את־העדה  אתה  ואהרן
אחיך  ודברתם
אל־הסלע  לעיניהם
ונתן  מימיו  והוצאת
להם  מים  מן־הסלע
והשקית  את־העדה
ואת־  בעירם׃
    QCh 'aTh-HMTH VHQHL 'aTh-H'yDH 'aThH V'aHUrN 'aChYK VDBUrThM 'aL-HSL'y L'yYNYHM VNThN MYMYV VHVTSh'aTh LHM MYM MN-HSL'y VHShQYTh 'aTh-H'yDH V'aTh- B'yYUrM.     `Take the rod, and assemble the company, thou and Aaron thy brother; and ye have spoken unto the rock before their eyes, and it hath given its water, and thou hast brought out to them water from the rock, and hast watered the company, and their beasts.`     tolle virgam et congrega populum tu et Aaron frater tuus et loquimini ad petram coram eis et illa dabit aquas cumque eduxeris aquam de petra bibet omnis multitudo et iumenta eius
 
9.    Moses took the rod from before Yahweh, as he commanded him.     And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.     ויקח  משה  את־המטה 
מלפני  יהוה  כאשר
צוהו׃
    VYQCh MShH 'aTh-HMTH MLPhNY YHVH K'aShUr TShVHV.     And Moses taketh the rod from before Jehovah, as He hath commanded him,     tulit igitur Moses virgam quae erat in conspectu Domini sicut praeceperat ei
 
10.    Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, "Hear now, you rebels; shall we bring you water out of this rock for you?"     And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?     ויקהלו  משה  ואהרן 
את־הקהל  אל־פני
הסלע  ויאמר  להם
שמעו־נא  המרים
המן־הסלע  הזה
נוציא  לכם  מים׃
    VYQHLV MShH V'aHUrN 'aTh-HQHL 'aL-PhNY HSL'y VY'aMUr LHM ShM'yV-N'a HMUrYM HMN-HSL'y HZH NVTShY'a LKM MYM.     and Moses and Aaron assemble the assembly unto the front of the rock, and he saith to them, `Hear, I pray you, O rebels, from this rock do we bring out to you water?`     congregata multitudine ante petram dixitque eis audite rebelles et increduli num de petra hac vobis aquam poterimus eicere
 
11.    Moses lifted up his hand, and struck the rock with his rod twice: and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their livestock.     And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.     וירם  משה  את־ידו 
ויך  את־הסלע  במטהו
פעמים  ויצאו  מים
רבים  ותשת  העדה
ובעירם׃
    VYUrM MShH 'aTh-YDV VYK 'aTh-HSL'y BMTHV Ph'yMYM VYTSh'aV MYM UrBYM VThShTh H'yDH VB'yYUrM.     and Moses lifteth up his hand, and smiteth the rock with his rod twice; and much water cometh out, and the company drink, also their beasts.     cumque elevasset Moses manum percutiens virga bis silicem egressae sunt aquae largissimae ita ut et populus biberet et iumenta
 
12.    Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you didn't believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them."     And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.     ויאמר  יהוה  אל־משה 
ואל־אהרן  יען
לא־האמנתם  בי
להקדישני  לעיני
בני  ישראל  לכן  לא
תביאו  את־הקהל  הזה
אל־הארץ  אשר־נתתי
להם׃
    VY'aMUr YHVH 'aL-MShH V'aL-'aHUrN Y'yN L'a-H'aMNThM BY LHQDYShNY L'yYNY BNY YShUr'aL LKN L'a ThBY'aV 'aTh-HQHL HZH 'aL-H'aUrTSh 'aShUr-NThThY LHM.     And Jehovah saith unto Moses, and unto Aaron, `Because ye have not believed in Me to sanctify Me before the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore ye do not bring in this assembly unto the land which I have given to them.`     dixitque Dominus ad Mosen et Aaron quia non credidistis mihi ut sanctificaretis me coram filiis Israhel non introducetis hos populos in terram quam dabo eis
 
13.    These are the waters of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with Yahweh, and he was sanctified in them.     This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.     המה  מי  מריבה 
אשר־רבו  בני־ישראל
את־יהוה  ויקדש  בם׃
    HMH MY MUrYBH 'aShUr-UrBV BNY-YShUr'aL 'aTh-YHVH VYQDSh BM.     These are waters of Meribah, because the sons of Israel have `striven` with Jehovah, and He is sanctified upon them.     haec est aqua Contradictionis ubi iurgati sunt filii Israhel contra Dominum et sanctificatus est in eis
 
14.    Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: "Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the travail that has happened to us:     And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:     וישלח  משה  מלאכים 
מקדש  אל־מלך  אדום
כה  אמר  אחיך  ישראל
אתה  ידעת  את
כל־התלאה  אשר
מצאתנו׃
    VYShLCh MShH ML'aKYM MQDSh 'aL-MLK 'aDVM KH 'aMUr 'aChYK YShUr'aL 'aThH YD'yTh 'aTh KL-HThL'aH 'aShUr MTSh'aThNV.     And Moses sendeth messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, `Thus said thy brother Israel, Thou -- thou hast known all the travail which hath found us;     misit interea nuntios Moses de Cades ad regem Edom qui dicerent haec mandat frater tuus Israhel nosti omnem laborem qui adprehendit nos
 
15.    how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we lived in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians dealt ill with us, and our fathers:     How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:     וירדו  אבתינו 
מצרימה  ונשב
במצרים  ימים  רבים
וירעו  לנו  מצרים
ולאבתינו׃
    VYUrDV 'aBThYNV MTShUrYMH VNShB BMTShUrYM YMYM UrBYM VYUr'yV LNV MTShUrYM VL'aBThYNV.     that our fathers go down to Egypt, and we dwell in Egypt many days, and the Egyptians do evil to us and to our fathers;     quomodo descenderint patres nostri in Aegyptum et habitaverimus ibi multo tempore adflixerintque nos Aegyptii et patres nostros
 
16.    and when we cried to Yahweh, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and brought us forth out of Egypt: and behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of your border.     And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:     ונצעק  אל־יהוה 
וישמע  קלנו  וישלח
מלאך  ויצאנו
ממצרים  והנה  אנחנו
בקדש  עיר  קצה
גבולך׃
    VNTSh'yQ 'aL-YHVH VYShM'y QLNV VYShLCh ML'aK VYTSh'aNV MMTShUrYM VHNH 'aNChNV BQDSh 'yYUr QTShH GBVLK.     and we cry unto Jehovah, and He heareth our voice, and sendeth a messenger, and is bringing us out of Egypt; and lo, we are in Kadesh, a city in the extremity of thy border.     et quomodo clamaverimus ad Dominum et exaudierit nos miseritque angelum qui eduxerit nos de Aegypto ecce in urbe Cades quae est in extremis finibus tuis positi
 
17.    "Please let us pass through your land: we will not pass through field or through vineyard, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go along the king's highway; we will not turn aside to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your border."     Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.     נעברה־נא  בארצך  לא 
נעבר  בשדה  ובכרם
ולא  נשתה  מי  באר
דרך  המלך  נלך  לא
נטה  ימין  ושמאול
עד  אשר־נעבר  גבלך׃
    N'yBUrH-N'a B'aUrTShK L'a N'yBUr BShDH VBKUrM VL'a NShThH MY B'aUr DUrK HMLK NLK L'a NTH YMYN VShM'aVL 'yD 'aShUr-N'yBUr GBLK.     Let us pass over, we pray thee, through thy land; we pass not over through a field, or through a vineyard, nor do we drink waters of a well; the way of the king we go, we turn not aside -- right or left -- till that we pass over thy border.`     obsecramus ut nobis transire liceat per terram tuam non ibimus per agros nec per vineas non bibemus aquas de puteis tuis sed gradiemur via publica nec ad dextram nec ad sinistram declinantes donec transeamus terminos tuos
 
18.    Edom said to him, "You shall not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against you."     And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.     ויאמר  אליו  אדום 
לא  תעבר  בי
פן־בחרב  אצא
לקראתך׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLYV 'aDVM L'a Th'yBUr BY PhN-BChUrB 'aTSh'a LQUr'aThK.     And Edom saith unto him, `Thou dost not pass over through me, lest with sword I come out to meet thee.`     cui respondit Edom non transibis per me alioquin armatus occurram tibi
 
19.    The children of Israel said to him, "We will go up by the highway; and if we drink of your water, I and my livestock, then will I give its price: let me only, without [doing] anything [else], pass through on my feet."     And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing anything else, go through on my feet.     ויאמרו  אליו 
בני־ישראל  במסלה
נעלה  ואם־מימיך
נשתה  אני  ומקני
ונתתי  מכרם  רק
אין־דבר  ברגלי
אעברה׃
    VY'aMUrV 'aLYV BNY-YShUr'aL BMSLH N'yLH V'aM-MYMYK NShThH 'aNY VMQNY VNThThY MKUrM UrQ 'aYN-DBUr BUrGLY 'a'yBUrH.     And the sons of Israel say unto him, `In the highway we go, and if of thy waters we drink -- I and my cattle -- then I have given their price; only (it is nothing) on my feet I pass over.`     dixeruntque filii Israhel per tritam gradiemur viam et si biberimus aquas tuas nos et pecora nostra dabimus quod iustum est nulla erit in pretio difficultas tantum velociter transeamus
 
20.    He said, "You shall not pass through." Edom came out against him with many people, and with a strong hand.     And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.     ויאמר  לא  תעבר 
ויצא  אדום  לקראתו
בעם  כבד  וביד
חזקה׃
    VY'aMUr L'a Th'yBUr VYTSh'a 'aDVM LQUr'aThV B'yM KBD VBYD ChZQH.     And he saith, `Thou dost not pass over;` and Edom cometh out to meet him with much people, and with a strong hand;     at ille respondit non transibis statimque egressus est obvius cum infinita multitudine et manu forti
 
21.    Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border, so Israel turned away from him.     Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.     וימאן  אדום  נתן

    VYM'aN 'aDVM NThN 'aTh-YShUr'aL 'yBUr BGBLV VYT YShUr'aL M'yLYV.     and Edom refuseth to suffer Israel to pass over through his border, and Israel turneth aside from off him.     nec voluit adquiescere deprecanti ut concederet transitum per fines suos quam ob rem devertit ab eo Israhel
 
22.    They traveled from Kadesh: and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.     And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.     ויסעו  מקדש  ויבאו 
בני־ישראל  כל־העדה
הר  ההר׃
    VYS'yV MQDSh VYB'aV BNY-YShUr'aL KL-H'yDH HUr HHUr.     And the sons of Israel, the whole company, journey from Kadesh, and come in unto mount Hor,     cumque castra movissent de Cades venerunt in montem Or qui est in finibus terrae Edom
 
23.    Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying,     And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying,     ויאמר  יהוה  אל־משה 
ואל־אהרן  בהר  ההר
על־גבול  ארץ־אדום
לאמר׃
    VY'aMUr YHVH 'aL-MShH V'aL-'aHUrN BHUr HHUr 'yL-GBVL 'aUrTSh-'aDVM L'aMUr.     and Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron in mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom, saying,     ubi locutus est Dominus ad Mosen
 
24.    "Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.     Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.     יאסף  אהרן  אל־עמיו 
כי  לא  יבא  אל־הארץ
אשר  נתתי  לבני
ישראל  על
אשר־מריתם  את־פי
למי  מריבה׃
    Y'aSPh 'aHUrN 'aL-'yMYV KY L'a YB'a 'aL-H'aUrTSh 'aShUr NThThY LBNY YShUr'aL 'yL 'aShUr-MUrYThM 'aTh-PhY LMY MUrYBH.     `Aaron is gathered unto his people, for he doth not go in unto the land which I have given to the sons of Israel, because that ye provoked My mouth at the waters of Meribah.     pergat inquit Aaron ad populos suos non enim intrabit terram quam dedi filiis Israhel eo quod incredulus fuerit ori meo ad aquas Contradictionis
 
25.    Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor;     Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:     קח  את־אהרן 
ואת־אלעזר  בנו
והעל  אתם  הר  ההר׃
    QCh 'aTh-'aHUrN V'aTh-'aL'yZUr BNV VH'yL 'aThM HUr HHUr.     `Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and cause them to go up mount Hor,     tolle Aaron et filium eius cum eo et duces eos in montem Or
 
26.    and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered [to his people], and shall die there."     And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.     והפשט  את־אהרן 
את־בגדיו  והלבשתם
את־אלעזר  בנו
ואהרן  יאסף  ומת

    VHPhShT 'aTh-'aHUrN 'aTh-BGDYV VHLBShThM 'aTh-'aL'yZUr BNV V'aHUrN Y'aSPh VMTh ShM.     and strip Aaron of his garments, and thou hast clothed with them Eleazar his son, and Aaron is gathered, and doth die there.`     cumque nudaveris patrem veste sua indues ea Eleazarum filium eius et Aaron colligetur et morietur ibi
 
27.    Moses did as Yahweh commanded: and they went up into Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.     And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.     ויעש  משה  כאשר  צוה 
יהוה  ויעלו  אל־הר
ההר  לעיני
כל־העדה׃
    VY'ySh MShH K'aShUr TShVH YHVH VY'yLV 'aL-HUr HHUr L'yYNY KL-H'yDH.     And Moses doth as Jehovah hath commanded, and they go up unto mount Hor before the eyes of all the company,     fecit Moses ut praeceperat Dominus et ascenderunt in montem Or coram omni multitudine
 
28.    Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there on the top of the mountain: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.     And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.     ויפשט  משה  את־אהרן 
את־בגדיו  וילבש
אתם  את־אלעזר  בנו
וימת  אהרן  שם  בראש

29.    When all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.     And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.     ויראו  כל־העדה  כי 
גוע  אהרן  ויבכו
את־אהרן  שלשים  יום
כל  בית  ישראל׃
    VYUr'aV KL-H'yDH KY GV'y 'aHUrN VYBKV 'aTh-'aHUrN ShLShYM YVM KL BYTh YShUr'aL.     and all the company see that Aaron hath expired, and they bewail Aaron thirty days -- all the house of Israel.     omnis autem multitudo videns occubuisse Aaron flevit super eo triginta diebus per cunctas familias suas
