1.    The children of Israel traveled, and encamped in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan at Jericho.     And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho.     ויסעו  בני  ישראל 
ויחנו  בערבות  מואב
מעבר  לירדן  ירחו׃
    VYS'yV BNY YShUr'aL VYChNV B'yUrBVTh MV'aB M'yBUr LYUrDN YUrChV.     And the sons of Israel journey and encamp in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan, by Jericho.     profectique castrametati sunt in campestribus Moab ubi trans Iordanem Hierichus sita est
 
2.    Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.     And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.     וירא  בלק  בן־צפור

ישראל  לאמרי׃
    VYUr'a BLQ BN-TShPhVUr 'aTh KL-'aShUr-'yShH YShUr'aL L'aMUrY.     And Balak son of Zippor seeth all that Israel hath done to the Amorite,     videns autem Balac filius Sepphor omnia quae fecerat Israhel Amorreo
 
3.    Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.     And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.     ויגר  מואב  מפני

    VYGUr MV'aB MPhNY H'yM M'aD KY UrB-HV'a VYQTSh MV'aB MPhNY BNY YShUr'aL.     and Moab is exceedingly afraid of the presence of the people, for it is numerous; and Moab is vexed by the presence of the sons of Israel,     et quod pertimuissent eum Moabitae et impetum eius ferre non possent
 
4.    Moab said to the elders of Midian, "Now this multitude will lick up all that is around us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field." Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time.     And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.     ויאמר  מואב

ילחכו  הקהל
את־כל־סביבתינו
כלחך  השור  את  ירק

    VY'aMUr MV'aB 'aL-ZQNY MDYN 'yThH YLChKV HQHL 'aTh-KL-SBYBThYNV KLChK HShVUr 'aTh YUrQ HShDH VBLQ BN-TShPhVUr MLK LMV'aB B'yTh HHV'a.     and Moab saith unto the elders of Midian, `Now doth the assembly lick up all that is round about us, as the ox licketh up the green thing of the field.` And Balak son of Zippor is king of Moab at that time,     dixit ad maiores natu Madian ita delebit hic populus omnes qui in nostris finibus commorantur quomodo solet bos herbas usque ad radices carpere ipse erat eo tempore rex in Moab
 
5.    He sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, to Pethor, which is by the River, to the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, "Behold, there is a people who came out from Egypt. Behold, they cover the surface of the earth, and they are staying opposite me.     He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me:     וישלח  מלאכים 
אל־בלעם  בן־בעור
פתורה  אשר  על־הנהר
ארץ  בני־עמו
לקרא־לו  לאמר  הנה
עם  יצא  ממצרים  הנה
כסה  את־עין  הארץ
והוא  ישב  ממלי׃

6.    Please come now therefore curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: perhaps I shall prevail, that we may strike them, and that I may drive them out of the land; for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed."     Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.     ועתה  לכה־נא 
ארה־לי  את־העם  הזה
כי־עצום  הוא  ממני
אולי  אוכל  נכה־  בו
ואגרשנו  מן־הארץ
כי  ידעתי  את
אשר־תברך  מברך

    VYLKV ZQNY MV'aB VZQNY MDYN VQSMYM BYDM VYB'aV 'aL-BL'yM VYDBUrV 'aLYV DBUrY BLQ.     And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian go, and divinations in their hand, and they come in unto Balaam, and speak unto him the words of Balak,     perrexerunt seniores Moab et maiores natu Madian habentes divinationis pretium in manibus cumque venissent ad Balaam et narrassent ei omnia verba Balac
 
8.    He said to them, "Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as Yahweh shall speak to me." The princes of Moab stayed with Balaam.     And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.     ויאמר  אליהם  לינו 
פה  הלילה  והשבתי
אתכם  דבר  כאשר
ידבר  יהוה  אלי
וישבו  שרי־מואב
עם־בלעם׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLYHM LYNV PhH HLYLH VHShBThY 'aThKM DBUr K'aShUr YDBUr YHVH 'aLY VYShBV ShUrY-MV'aB 'yM-BL'yM.     and he saith unto them, `Lodge here to-night, and I have brought you back word, as Jehovah speaketh unto me;` and the princes of Moab abide with Balaam.     ille respondit manete hic nocte et respondebo quicquid mihi dixerit Dominus manentibus illis apud Balaam venit Deus et ait ad eum
 
9.    God came to Balaam, and said, "Who are these men with you?"     And God came unto Balaam, and said, What men are these with thee?     ויבא  אלהים

    VYB'a 'aLHYM 'aL-BL'yM VY'aMUr MY H'aNShYM H'aLH 'yMK.     And God cometh in unto Balaam, and saith, `Who are these men with thee?`     quid sibi volunt homines isti apud te
 
10.    Balaam said to God, "Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent to me, [saying],     And Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me, saying,     ויאמר  בלעם 
אל־האלהים  בלק
בן־צפר  מלך  מואב
שלח  אלי׃
    VY'aMUr BL'yM 'aL-H'aLHYM BLQ BN-TShPhUr MLK MV'aB ShLCh 'aLY.     And Balaam saith unto God, `Balak, son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me:     respondit Balac filius Sepphor rex Moabitarum misit ad me
 
11.    'Behold, the people that is come out of Egypt, it covers the surface of the earth: now, come curse me them; perhaps I shall be able to fight against them, and shall drive them out.'"     Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, which covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.     הנה  העם  היצא 
ממצרים  ויכס
את־עין  הארץ  עתה
לכה  קבה־לי  אתו
אולי  אוכל  להלחם
בו  וגרשתיו׃
    HNH H'yM HYTSh'a MMTShUrYM VYKS 'aTh-'yYN H'aUrTSh 'yThH LKH QBH-LY 'aThV 'aVLY 'aVKL LHLChM BV VGUrShThYV.     Lo, the people that is coming out from Egypt and covereth the eye of the land, -- now come, pierce it for me; it may be I am able to fight against it, and have cast it out;`     dicens ecce populus qui egressus est de Aegypto operuit superficiem terrae veni et maledic ei si quo modo possim pugnans abicere eum
 
12.    God said to Balaam, "You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people; for they are blessed."     And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed.     ויאמר  אלהים

את־העם  כי  ברוך
הוא׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHYM 'aL-BL'yM L'a ThLK 'yMHM L'a Th'aUr 'aTh-H'yM KY BUrVK HV'a.     and God saith unto Balaam, `Thou dost not go with them; thou dost not curse the people; for it is blessed.`     dixitque Deus ad Balaam noli ire cum eis neque maledicas populo quia benedictus est
 
13.    Balaam rose up in the morning, and said to the princes of Balak, "Go to your land; for Yahweh refuses to permit me to go with you."     And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your land: for the LORD refuseth to give me leave to go with you.     ויקם  בלעם  בבקר 
ויאמר  אל־שרי  בלק
לכו  אל־ארצכם  כי
מאן  יהוה  לתתי
להלך  עמכם׃
    VYQM BL'yM BBQUr VY'aMUr 'aL-ShUrY BLQ LKV 'aL-'aUrTShKM KY M'aN YHVH LThThY LHLK 'yMKM.     And Balaam riseth in the morning, and saith unto the princes of Balak, `Go unto your land, for Jehovah is refusing to suffer me to go with you;`     qui mane consurgens dixit ad principes ite in terram vestram quia prohibuit me Deus venire vobiscum
 
14.    The princes of Moab rose up, and they went to Balak, and said, "Balaam refuses to come with us."     And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said, Balaam refuseth to come with us.     ויקומו  שרי  מואב 
ויבאו  אל־בלק
ויאמרו  מאן  בלעם
הלך  עמנו׃
    VYQVMV ShUrY MV'aB VYB'aV 'aL-BLQ VY'aMUrV M'aN BL'yM HLK 'yMNV.     and the princes of Moab rise, and come in unto Balak, and say, `Balaam is refusing to come with us.`     reversi principes dixerunt ad Balac noluit Balaam venire nobiscum
 
15.    Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honorable than they.     And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.     ויסף  עוד  בלק  שלח 
שרים  רבים  ונכבדים
מאלה׃
    VYSPh 'yVD BLQ ShLCh ShUrYM UrBYM VNKBDYM M'aLH.     And Balak addeth yet to send princes, more numerous and honoured than these,     rursum ille multo plures et nobiliores quam ante miserat misit
 
16.    They came to Balaam, and said to him, "Thus says Balak the son of Zippor, 'Please let nothing hinder you from coming to me:     And they came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me:     ויבאו  אל־בלעם 
ויאמרו  לו  כה  אמר
בלק  בן־צפור  אל־נא
תמנע  מהלך  אלי׃
    VYB'aV 'aL-BL'yM VY'aMUrV LV KH 'aMUr BLQ BN-TShPhVUr 'aL-N'a ThMN'y MHLK 'aLY.     and they come in unto Balaam, and say to him, `Thus said Balak son of Zippor, Be not, I pray thee, withheld from coming unto me,     qui cum venissent ad Balaam dixerunt sic dicit Balac filius Sepphor ne cuncteris venire ad me
 
17.    for I will promote you to very great honor, and whatever you say to me I will do. Please come therefore, and curse this people for me.'"     For I will promote thee unto very great honour, and I will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people.     כי־כבד  אכבדך  מאד 
וכל  אשר־תאמר  אלי
אעשה  ולכה־נא
קבה־לי  את  העם
הזה׃
    KY-KBD 'aKBDK M'aD VKL 'aShUr-Th'aMUr 'aLY 'a'yShH VLKH-N'a QBH-LY 'aTh H'yM HZH.     for very greatly I honour thee, and all that thou sayest unto me I do; and come, I pray thee, pierce for me this people.`     paratum honorare te et quicquid volueris dare veni et maledic populo isti
 
18.    Balaam answered the servants of Balak, "If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I can't go beyond the word of Yahweh my God, to do less or more.     And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.     ויען  בלעם  ויאמר 
אל־עבדי  בלק
אם־יתן־לי  בלק  מלא
ביתו  כסף  וזהב  לא
אוכל  לעבר  את־פי
יהוה  אלהי  לעשות
קטנה  או  גדולה׃
    VY'yN BL'yM VY'aMUr 'aL-'yBDY BLQ 'aM-YThN-LY BLQ ML'a BYThV KSPh VZHB L'a 'aVKL L'yBUr 'aTh-PhY YHVH 'aLHY L'yShVTh QTNH 'aV GDVLH.     And Balaam answereth and saith unto the servants of Balak, `If Balak doth give to me the fulness of his house of silver and gold, I am not able to pass over the command of Jehovah my God, to do a little or a great thing;     respondit Balaam si dederit mihi Balac plenam domum suam argenti et auri non potero inmutare verbum Domini Dei mei ut vel plus vel minus loquar
 
19.    Now therefore, please wait also here this night, that I may know what Yahweh will speak to me more."     Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will say unto me more.     ועתה  שבו  נא  בזה

דבר  עמי׃
    V'yThH ShBV N'a BZH GM-'aThM HLYLH V'aD'yH MH-YSPh YHVH DBUr 'yMY.     and, now, abide, I pray you, in this place, you also, to-night; and I know what Jehovah is adding to speak with me.`     obsecro ut hic maneatis etiam hac nocte et scire queam quid mihi rursum respondeat Dominus
 
20.    God came to Balaam at night, and said to him, "If the men have come to call you, rise up, go with them; but only the word which I speak to you, that you shall do."     And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do.     ויבא  אלהים 
אל־בלעם  לילה
ויאמר  לו  אם־לקרא
לך  באו  האנשים  קום
לך  אתם  ואך
את־הדבר  אשר־אדבר
אליך  אתו  תעשה׃
    VYB'a 'aLHYM 'aL-BL'yM LYLH VY'aMUr LV 'aM-LQUr'a LK B'aV H'aNShYM QVM LK 'aThM V'aK 'aTh-HDBUr 'aShUr-'aDBUr 'aLYK 'aThV Th'yShH.     And God cometh in unto Balaam, by night, and saith to him, `If to call for thee the men have come, rise, go with them, and only the thing which I speak unto thee -- it thou dost do.`     venit ergo Deus ad Balaam nocte et ait ei si vocare te venerunt homines isti surge et vade cum eis ita dumtaxat ut quod tibi praecepero facias
 
21.    Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab.     And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.     ויקם  בלעם  בבקר 
ויחבש  את־אתנו
וילך  עם־שרי  מואב׃
    VYQM BL'yM BBQUr VYChBSh 'aTh-'aThNV VYLK 'yM-ShUrY MV'aB.     And Balaam riseth in the morning, and saddleth his ass, and goeth with the princes of Moab,     surrexit Balaam mane et strata asina profectus est cum eis
 
22.    God's anger was kindled because he went; and the angel of Yahweh placed himself in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him.     And God's anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.     ויחר־אף  אלהים 
כי־הולך  הוא
ויתיצב  מלאך  יהוה
בדרך  לשטן  לו  והוא
רכב  על־אתנו  ושני
נעריו  עמו׃
    VYChUr-'aPh 'aLHYM KY-HVLK HV'a VYThYTShB ML'aK YHVH BDUrK LShTN LV VHV'a UrKB 'yL-'aThNV VShNY N'yUrYV 'yMV.     and the anger of God burneth because he is going, and a messenger of Jehovah stationeth himself in the way for an adversary to him, and he is riding on his ass, and two of his servants are with him,     et iratus est Deus stetitque angelus Domini in via contra Balaam qui sedebat asinae et duos pueros habebat secum
 
23.    The donkey saw the angel of Yahweh standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and the donkey turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam struck the donkey, to turn her into the way.     And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.     ותרא  האתון 
את־מלאך  יהוה  נצב
בדרך  וחרבו  שלופה
בידו  ותט  האתון
מן־הדרך  ותלך  בשדה
ויך  בלעם  את־האתון
להטתה  הדרך׃
    VThUr'a H'aThVN 'aTh-ML'aK YHVH NTShB BDUrK VChUrBV ShLVPhH BYDV VThT H'aThVN MN-HDUrK VThLK BShDH VYK BL'yM 'aTh-H'aThVN LHTThH HDUrK.     and the ass seeth the messenger of Jehovah standing in the way, and his drawn sword in his hand, and the ass turneth aside out of the way, and goeth into a field, and Balaam smiteth the ass to turn it aside into the way.     cernens asina angelum stantem in via evaginato gladio avertit se de itinere et ibat per agrum quam cum verberaret Balaam et vellet ad semitam reducere
 
24.    Then the angel of Yahweh stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.     But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.     ויעמד  מלאך  יהוה 
במשעול  הכרמים  גדר
מזה  וגדר  מזה׃
    VY'yMD ML'aK YHVH BMSh'yVL HKUrMYM GDUr MZH VGDUr MZH.     And the messenger of Jehovah standeth in a narrow path of the vineyards -- a wall on this side and a wall on that --     stetit angelus in angustiis duarum maceriarum quibus vineae cingebantur
 
25.    The donkey saw the angel of Yahweh, and she thrust herself to the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he struck her again.     And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he smote her again.     ותרא  האתון 
את־מלאך  יהוה
ותלחץ  אל־הקיר
ותלחץ  את־רגל  בלעם
אל־  הקיר  ויסף
להכתה׃
    VThUr'a H'aThVN 'aTh-ML'aK YHVH VThLChTSh 'aL-HQYUr VThLChTSh 'aTh-UrGL BL'yM 'aL- HQYUr VYSPh LHKThH.     and the ass seeth the messenger of Jehovah, and is pressed unto the wall, and presseth Balaam`s foot unto the wall, and he addeth to smite her;     quem videns asina iunxit se parieti et adtrivit sedentis pedem at ille iterum verberabat
 
26.    The angel of Yahweh went further, and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.     And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.     ויוסף  מלאך־יהוה 
עבור  ויעמד  במקום
צר  אשר  אין־דרך
לנטות  ימין

    VYVSPh ML'aK-YHVH 'yBVUr VY'yMD BMQVM TShUr 'aShUr 'aYN-DUrK LNTVTh YMYN VShM'aVL.     and the messenger of Jehovah addeth to pass over, and standeth in a strait place where there is no way to turn aside -- right or left --     et nihilominus angelus ad locum angustum transiens ubi nec ad dextram nec ad sinistram poterat deviari obvius stetit
 
27.    The donkey saw the angel of Yahweh, and she lay down under Balaam: and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he struck the donkey with his staff.     And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.     ותרא  האתון 
את־מלאך  יהוה
ותרבץ  תחת  בלעם
ויחר־אף  בלעם  ויך
את־  האתון  במקל׃

28.    Yahweh opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?"     And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?     ויפתח  יהוה  את־פי 
האתון  ותאמר  לבלעם
מה־עשיתי  לך  כי

רגלים׃
    VYPhThCh YHVH 'aTh-PhY H'aThVN VTh'aMUr LBL'yM MH-'yShYThY LK KY HKYThNY ZH ShLSh UrGLYM.     And Jehovah openeth the mouth of the ass, and she saith to Balaam, `What have I done to thee that thou hast smitten me these three times?`     aperuitque Dominus os asinae et locuta est quid feci tibi cur percutis me ecce iam tertio
 
29.    Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you have mocked me, I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would have killed you."     And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.     ויאמר  בלעם  לאתון

יש־חרב  בידי  כי
עתה  הרגתיך׃
    VY'aMUr BL'yM L'aThVN KY HTh'yLLTh BY LV YSh-ChUrB BYDY KY 'yThH HUrGThYK.     and Balaam saith to the ass, `Because thou hast rolled thyself against me; oh that there were a sword in my hand, for now I had slain thee;`     respondit Balaam quia commeruisti et inlusisti mihi utinam haberem gladium ut te percuterem
 
30.    The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your donkey, on which you have ridden all your life long to this day? Was I ever in the habit of doing so to you?" He said, "No."     And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.     ותאמר  האתון 
אל־בלעם  הלוא  אנכי
אתנך  אשר־רכבת  עלי
מעודך  עד־  היום
הזה  ההסכן  הסכנתי
לעשות  לך  כה  ויאמר

    VTh'aMUr H'aThVN 'aL-BL'yM HLV'a 'aNKY 'aThNK 'aShUr-UrKBTh 'yLY M'yVDK 'yD- HYVM HZH HHSKN HSKNThY L'yShVTh LK KH VY'aMUr L'a.     and the ass saith unto Balaam, `Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden since I was thine unto this day? have I at all been accustomed to do to thee thus?` and he saith, `No.`     dixit asina nonne animal tuum sum cui semper sedere consuesti usque in praesentem diem dic quid simile umquam fecerim tibi at ille ait numquam
 
31.    Then Yahweh opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of Yahweh standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and he bowed his head, and fell on his face.     Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.     ויגל  יהוה  את־עיני 
בלעם  וירא  את־מלאך
יהוה  נצב  בדרך
וחרבו  שלפה  בידו
ויקד  וישתחו
לאפיו׃
    VYGL YHVH 'aTh-'yYNY BL'yM VYUr'a 'aTh-ML'aK YHVH NTShB BDUrK VChUrBV ShLPhH BYDV VYQD VYShThChV L'aPhYV.     And Jehovah uncovereth the eyes of Balaam, and he seeeth the messenger of Jehovah standing in the way, and his drawn sword in his hand, and he boweth and doth obeisance, to his face;     protinus aperuit Dominus oculos Balaam et vidit angelum stantem in via evaginato gladio adoravitque eum pronus in terram
 
32.    The angel of Yahweh said to him, "Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come forth as an adversary, because your way is perverse before me:     And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me:     ויאמר  אליו  מלאך 
יהוה  על־מה  הכית
את־אתנך  זה  שלוש
רגלים  הנה  אנכי
יצאתי  לשטן  כי־ירט
הדרך  לנגדי׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLYV ML'aK YHVH 'yL-MH HKYTh 'aTh-'aThNK ZH ShLVSh UrGLYM HNH 'aNKY YTSh'aThY LShTN KY-YUrT HDUrK LNGDY.     and the messenger of Jehovah saith unto him, `Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? lo, I -- I have come out for an adversary, for thy way hath been perverse before me,     cui angelus cur inquit tertio verberas asinam tuam ego veni ut adversarer tibi quia perversa est via tua mihique contraria
 
33.    and the donkey saw me, and turned aside before me these three times. Unless she had turned aside from me, surely now I would have killed you, and saved her alive."     And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.     ותראני  האתון  ותט 
לפני  זה  שלש  רגלים
אולי  נטתה  מפני  כי
עתה  גם־  אתכה
הרגתי  ואותה
החייתי׃
    VThUr'aNY H'aThVN VThT LPhNY ZH ShLSh UrGLYM 'aVLY NTThH MPhNY KY 'yThH GM- 'aThKH HUrGThY V'aVThH HChYYThY.     and the ass seeth me, and turneth aside at my presence these three times; unless she had turned aside from my presence, surely now also, thee I had slain, and her kept alive.`     et nisi asina declinasset de via dans locum resistenti te occidissem et illa viveret
 
34.    Balaam said to the angel of Yahweh, "I have sinned; for I didn't know that you stood in the way against me. Now therefore, if it displeases you, I will go back again."     And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.     ויאמר  בלעם 
אל־מלאך  יהוה
חטאתי  כי  לא  ידעתי
כי  אתה  נצב  לקראתי
בדרך  ועתה  אם־רע
בעיניך  אשובה  לי׃
    VY'aMUr BL'yM 'aL-ML'aK YHVH ChT'aThY KY L'a YD'yThY KY 'aThH NTShB LQUr'aThY BDUrK V'yThH 'aM-Ur'y B'yYNYK 'aShVBH LY.     And Balaam saith unto the messenger of Jehovah, `I have sinned, for I did not know that thou art standing to meet me in the way; and now, if evil in thine eyes -- I turn back by myself.`     dixit Balaam peccavi nesciens quod tu stares contra me et nunc si displicet tibi ut vadam revertar
 
35.    The angel of Yahweh said to Balaam, "Go with the men; but only the word that I shall speak to you, that you shall speak." So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.     And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.     ויאמר  מלאך  יהוה 
אל־בלעם  לך
עם־האנשים  ואפס
את־הדבר  אשר־אדבר
אליך  אתו  תדבר
וילך  בלעם  עם־שרי
בלק׃
    VY'aMUr ML'aK YHVH 'aL-BL'yM LK 'yM-H'aNShYM V'aPhS 'aTh-HDBUr 'aShUr-'aDBUr 'aLYK 'aThV ThDBUr VYLK BL'yM 'yM-ShUrY BLQ.     And the messenger of Jehovah saith unto Balaam, `Go with the men; and only the word which I speak unto thee -- it thou dost speak;` and Balaam goeth with the princes of Balak.     ait angelus vade cum istis et cave ne aliud quam praecepero tibi loquaris ivit igitur cum principibus
 
36.    When Balak heard that Balaam had come, he went out to meet him to the City of Moab, which is on the border of the Arnon, which is in the utmost part of the border.     And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.     וישמע  בלק  כי  בא 
בלעם  ויצא  לקראתו
אל־עיר  מואב  אשר
על־גבול  ארנן  אשר
בקצה  הגבול׃
    VYShM'y BLQ KY B'a BL'yM VYTSh'a LQUr'aThV 'aL-'yYUr MV'aB 'aShUr 'yL-GBVL 'aUrNN 'aShUr BQTShH HGBVL.     And Balak heareth that Balaam hath come, and goeth out to meet him, unto a city of Moab, which is on the border of Arnon, which is in the extremity of the border;     quod cum audisset Balac egressus est in occursum eius in oppido Moabitarum quod situm est in extremis finibus Arnon
 
37.    Balak said to Balaam, "Didn't I earnestly send to you to call you? Why didn't you come to me? Am I not able indeed to promote you to honor?"     And Balak said unto Balaam, Did I not earnestly send unto thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I not able indeed to promote thee to honour?     ויאמר  בלק  אל־בלעם 
הלא  שלח  שלחתי
אליך  לקרא־לך  למה
לא־הלכת  אלי  האמנם
לא  אוכל  כבדך׃
    VY'aMUr BLQ 'aL-BL'yM HL'a ShLCh ShLChThY 'aLYK LQUr'a-LK LMH L'a-HLKTh 'aLY H'aMNM L'a 'aVKL KBDK.     and Balak saith unto Balaam, `Did I not diligently sent unto thee to call for thee? why didst thou not come unto me? am I not truly able to honour thee?`     dixitque ad Balaam misi nuntios ut vocarent te cur non statim venisti ad me an quia mercedem adventui tuo reddere nequeo
 
38.    Balaam said to Balak, "Behold, I have come to you: have I now any power at all to speak anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that shall I speak."     And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.     ויאמר  בלעם  אל־בלק 
הנה־באתי  אליך  עתה
היכל  אוכל  דבר
מאומה  הדבר  אשר
ישים  אלהים  בפי
אתו  אדבר׃
    VY'aMUr BL'yM 'aL-BLQ HNH-B'aThY 'aLYK 'yThH HYKL 'aVKL DBUr M'aVMH HDBUr 'aShUr YShYM 'aLHYM BPhY 'aThV 'aDBUr.     And Balaam saith unto Balak, `Lo, I have come unto thee; now -- am I at all able to speak anything? the word which God setteth in my mouth -- it I do speak.`     cui ille respondit ecce adsum numquid loqui potero aliud nisi quod Deus posuerit in ore meo
 
39.    Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kiriath Huzoth.     And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kirjathhuzoth.     וילך  בלעם  עם־בלק 
ויבאו  קרית  חצות׃
    VYLK BL'yM 'yM-BLQ VYB'aV QUrYTh ChTShVTh.     And Balaam goeth with Balak, and they come to Kirjath-Huzoth,     perrexerunt ergo simul et venerunt in urbem quae in extremis regni eius finibus erat
 
40.    Balak sacrificed cattle and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes who were with him.     And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.     ויזבח  בלק  בקר 
וצאן  וישלח  לבלעם
ולשרים  אשר  אתו׃
    VYZBCh BLQ BQUr VTSh'aN VYShLCh LBL'yM VLShUrYM 'aShUr 'aThV.     and Balak sacrificeth oxen and sheep, and sendeth to Balaam, and to the princes who are with him;     cumque occidisset Balac boves et oves misit ad Balaam et principes qui cum eo erant munera
 
41.    It happened in the morning, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal; and he saw from there the utmost part of the people.     And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people.     ויהי  בבקר  ויקח 
בלק  את־בלעם
ויעלהו  במות  בעל
וירא  משם  קצה  העם׃
    VYHY BBQUr VYQCh BLQ 'aTh-BL'yM VY'yLHV BMVTh B'yL VYUr'a MShM QTShH H'yM.     and it cometh to pass in the morning, that Balak taketh Balaam, and causeth him to go up the high places of Baal, and he seeth from thence the extremity of the people.     mane autem facto duxit eum ad excelsa Baal et intuitus est extremam partem populi
