2.    Abraham became the father of Isaac. Isaac became the father of Jacob. 10.    Hezekiah became the father of Manasseh. Manasseh became the father of Amon. 11.    Josiah became the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the exile to Babylon.     And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:     ιωσιας δε εγεννησεν τον ιεχονιαν και τους αδελφους αυτου επι της μετοικεσιας βαβυλωνος     and Josiah begat Jeconiah and his brethren, at the Babylonian removal.     Iosias autem genuit Iechoniam et fratres eius in transmigratione Babylonis
 
12.    After the exile to Babylon, Jechoniah became the father of Shealtiel. Shealtiel became the father of Zerubbabel.     And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;     μετα δε την μετοικεσιαν βαβυλωνος ιεχονιας εγεννησεν τον σαλαθιηλ σαλαθιηλ δε εγεννησεν τον ζοροβαβελ     And after the Babylonian removal, Jeconiah begat Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begat Zerubbabel,     et post transmigrationem Babylonis Iechonias genuit Salathihel Salathihel autem genuit Zorobabel

16.    Jacob became the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom was born Jesus{"Jesus" means "Salvation."}, who is called Christ.     And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.     ιακωβ δε εγεννησεν τον ιωσηφ τον ανδρα μαριας εξ ης εγεννηθη ιησους ο λεγομενος χριστος     and Jacob begat Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was begotten Jesus, who is named Christ.     Iacob autem genuit Ioseph virum Mariae de qua natus est Iesus qui vocatur Christus
 
17.    So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the exile to Babylon fourteen generations; and from the carrying away to Babylon to the Christ, fourteen generations.     So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.     πασαι ουν αι γενεαι απο αβρααμ εως δαυιδ γενεαι δεκατεσσαρες και απο δαυιδ εως της μετοικεσιας βαβυλωνος γενεαι δεκατεσσαρες και απο της μετοικεσιας βαβυλωνος εως του χριστου γενεαι δεκατεσσαρες     All the generations, therefore, from Abraham unto David are fourteen generations, and from David unto the Babylonian removal fourteen generations, and from the Babylonian removal unto the Christ, fourteen generations.     omnes ergo generationes ab Abraham usque ad David generationes quattuordecim et a David usque ad transmigrationem Babylonis generationes quattuordecim et a transmigratione Babylonis usque ad Christum generationes quattuordecim
 
18.    Now the birth of Jesus Christ was like this; for after his mother, Mary, was engaged to Joseph, before they came together, she was found pregnant by the Holy Spirit.     Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.     του δε ιησου χριστου η γενεσισ ουτως ην μνηστευθεισης της μητρος αυτου μαριας τω ιωσηφ πριν η συνελθειν αυτους ευρεθη εν γαστρι εχουσα εκ πνευματος αγιου     And of Jesus Christ, the birth was thus: For his mother Mary having been betrothed to Joseph, before their coming together she was found to have conceived from the Holy Spirit,     Christi autem generatio sic erat cum esset desponsata mater eius Maria Ioseph antequam convenirent inventa est in utero habens de Spiritu Sancto
 
19.    Joseph, her husband, being a righteous man, and not willing to make her a public example, intended to put her away secretly.     Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.     ιωσηφ δε ο ανηρ αυτης δικαιος ων και μη θελων αυτην δειγματισαι εβουληθη λαθρα απολυσαι αυτην     and Joseph her husband being righteous, and not willing to make her an example, did wish privately to send her away.     Ioseph autem vir eius cum esset iustus et nollet eam traducere voluit occulte dimittere eam
 
20.    But when he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, don't be afraid to take to yourself Mary, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.     But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.     ταυτα δε αυτου ενθυμηθεντος ιδου αγγελος κυριου κατ οναρ εφανη αυτω λεγων ιωσηφ υιος δαυιδ μη φοβηθης παραλαβειν μαριαν την γυναικα σου το γαρ εν αυτη γεννηθεν εκ πνευματος εστιν αγιου     And on his thinking of these things, lo, a messenger of the Lord in a dream appeared to him, saying, `Joseph, son of David, thou mayest not fear to receive Mary thy wife, for that which in her was begotten is of the Holy Spirit,     haec autem eo cogitante ecce angelus Domini in somnis apparuit ei dicens Ioseph fili David noli timere accipere Mariam coniugem tuam quod enim in ea natum est de Spiritu Sancto est
 
21.    She shall bring forth a son. You shall call his name Jesus, for it is he who shall save his people from their sins."     And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.     τεξεται δε υιον και καλεσεις το ονομα αυτου ιησουν αυτος γαρ σωσει τον λαον αυτου απο των αμαρτιων αυτων     and she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.`     pariet autem filium et vocabis nomen eius Iesum ipse enim salvum faciet populum suum a peccatis eorum
 
22.    Now all this has happened, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,     Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,     τουτο δε ολον γεγονεν ινα πληρωθη το ρηθεν υπο κυριου δια του προφητου λεγοντος     And all this hath come to pass, that it may be fulfilled that was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,     hoc autem totum factum est ut adimpleretur id quod dictum est a Domino per prophetam dicentem
 
23.    "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son. They shall call his name Immanuel;" which is, being interpreted, "God with us."{Isaiah 7:14}     Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.     ιδου η παρθενος εν γαστρι εξει και τεξεται υιον και καλεσουσιν το ονομα αυτου εμμανουηλ ο εστιν μεθερμηνευομενον μεθ ημων ο θεος     `Lo, the virgin shall conceive, and she shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel,` which is, being interpreted `With us he is God.`     ecce virgo in utero habebit et pariet filium et vocabunt nomen eius Emmanuhel quod est interpretatum Nobiscum Deus
 
24.    Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took his wife to himself;     Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:     εγερθεισ δε ο ιωσηφ απο του υπνου εποιησεν ως προσεταξεν αυτω ο αγγελος κυριου και παρελαβεν την γυναικα αυτου     And Joseph, having risen from the sleep, did as the messenger of the Lord directed him, and received his wife,     exsurgens autem Ioseph a somno fecit sicut praecepit ei angelus Domini et accepit coniugem suam
 
25.    and didn't know her sexually until she had brought forth her firstborn son. He named him Jesus.     And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.     και ουκ εγινωσκεν αυτην εως ου ετεκεν υιον  και εκαλεσεν το ονομα αυτου ιησουν     and did not know her till she brought forth her son -- the first-born, and he called his name Jesus.     et non cognoscebat eam donec peperit filium suum primogenitum et vocavit nomen eius Iesum
