1.    Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, a complaint arose from the Hellenists{The Hellenists used Greek language and culture, even though they were also of Hebrew descent.} against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily service.     And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.     εν δε ταις ημεραις ταυταις πληθυνοντων των μαθητων εγενετο γογγυσμος των ελληνιστων προς τους εβραιους οτι παρεθεωρουντο εν τη διακονια τη καθημερινη αι χηραι αυτων     And in these days, the disciples multiplying, there came a murmuring of the Hellenists at the Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily ministration,     in diebus autem illis crescente numero discipulorum factus est murmur Graecorum adversus Hebraeos eo quod dispicerentur in ministerio cotidiano viduae eorum
 
2.    The twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, "It is not appropriate for us to forsake the word of God and serve tables.     Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.     προσκαλεσαμενοι δε οι δωδεκα το πληθος των μαθητων ειπαν ουκ αρεστον εστιν ημας καταλειψαντας τον λογον του θεου διακονειν τραπεζαις     and the twelve, having called near the multitude of the disciples, said, `It is not pleasing that we, having left the word of God, do minister at tables;     convocantes autem duodecim multitudinem discipulorum dixerunt non est aequum nos derelinquere verbum Dei et ministrare mensis
 
3.    Therefore select from among you, brothers, seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.     Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.     επισκεψασθε δε αδελφοι ανδρας εξ υμων μαρτυρουμενους επτα πληρεις πνευματος και σοφιας ους καταστησομεν επι της χρειας ταυτης     look out, therefore, brethren, seven men of you who are well testified of, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may set over this necessity,     considerate ergo fratres viros ex vobis boni testimonii septem plenos Spiritu et sapientia quos constituamus super hoc opus
 
4.    But we will continue steadfastly in prayer and in the ministry of the word."     But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.     ημεις δε τη προσευχη και τη διακονια του λογου προσκαρτερησομεν     and we to prayer, and to the ministration of the word, will give ourselves continually.`     nos vero orationi et ministerio verbi instantes erimus
 
5.    These words pleased the whole multitude. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch;     And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:     και ηρεσεν ο λογος ενωπιον παντος του πληθους και εξελεξαντο στεφανον ανδρα πληρησ πιστεως και πνευματος αγιου και φιλιππον και προχορον και νικανορα και τιμωνα και παρμεναν και νικολαον προσηλυτον αντιοχεα     And the thing was pleasing before all the multitude, and they did choose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch,     et placuit sermo coram omni multitudine et elegerunt Stephanum virum plenum fide et Spiritu Sancto et Philippum et Prochorum et Nicanorem et Timonem et Parmenam et Nicolaum advenam Antiochenum
 
6.    whom they set before the apostles. 7.    The word of God increased and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem exceedingly. A great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.     And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.     και ο λογος του θεου ηυξανεν και επληθυνετο ο αριθμος των μαθητων εν ιερουσαλημ σφοδρα πολυς τε οχλος των ιερεων υπηκουον τη πιστει     And the word of God did increase, and the number of the disciples did multiply in Jerusalem exceedingly; a great multitude also of the priests were obedient to the faith.     et verbum Dei crescebat et multiplicabatur numerus discipulorum in Hierusalem valde multa etiam turba sacerdotum oboediebat fidei
 
8.    Stephen, full of faith and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.     And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.     στεφανος δε πληρης χαριτοσ και δυναμεως εποιει τερατα και σημεια μεγαλα εν τω λαω     And Stephen, full of faith and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people,     Stephanus autem plenus gratia et fortitudine faciebat prodigia et signa magna in populo
 
9.    But some of those who were of the synagogue called "The Libertines," and of the Cyrenians, of the Alexandrians, and of those of Cilicia and Asia arose, disputing with Stephen.     Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.     ανεστησαν δε τινες των εκ της συναγωγης της λεγομενης λιβερτινων και κυρηναιων και αλεξανδρεων και των απο κιλικιας και ασιας συζητουντες τω στεφανω     and there arose certain of those of the synagogue, called of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia, and Asia, disputing with Stephen,     surrexerunt autem quidam de synagoga quae appellatur Libertinorum et Cyrenensium et Alexandrinorum et eorum qui erant a Cilicia et Asia disputantes cum Stephano
 
10.    They weren't able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.     And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.     και ουκ ισχυον αντιστηναι τη σοφια και τω πνευματι ω ελαλει     and they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit with which he was speaking;     et non poterant resistere sapientiae et Spiritui quo loquebatur
 
11.    Then they secretly induced men to say, "We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God."     Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.     τοτε υπεβαλον ανδρας λεγοντας οτι ακηκοαμεν αυτου λαλουντος ρηματα βλασφημα εις μωυσην και τον θεον     then they suborned men, saying -- `We have heard him speaking evil sayings in regard to Moses and God.`     tunc submiserunt viros qui dicerent se audisse eum dicentem verba blasphemiae in Mosen et Deum
 
12.    They stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and came against him and seized him, and brought him in to the council,     And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,     συνεκινησαν τε τον λαον και τους πρεσβυτερους και τους γραμματεις και επισταντες συνηρπασαν αυτον και ηγαγον εις το συνεδριον     They did stir up also the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and having come upon him, they caught him, and brought him to the sanhedrim;     commoverunt itaque plebem et seniores et scribas et concurrentes rapuerunt eum et adduxerunt in concilium
 
13.    and set up false witnesses who said, "This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the law.     And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:     εστησαν τε μαρτυρας ψευδεις λεγοντας ο ανθρωπος ουτος ου παυεται  λαλων ρηματα κατα του τοπου του αγιου [τουτου] και του νομου     they set up also false witnesses, saying, `This one doth not cease to speak evil sayings against this holy place and the law,     et statuerunt testes falsos dicentes homo iste non cessat loqui verba adversus locum sanctum et legem
 
14.    For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us."     For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.     ακηκοαμεν γαρ αυτου λεγοντος οτι ιησους ο ναζωραιος ουτος καταλυσει τον τοπον τουτον και αλλαξει τα εθη α παρεδωκεν ημιν μωυσησ     for we have heard him saying, That this Jesus the Nazarean shall overthrow this place, and shall change the customs that Moses delivered to us;`     audivimus enim eum dicentem quoniam Iesus Nazarenus hic destruet locum istum et mutabit traditiones quas tradidit nobis Moses
 
15.    All who sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face like it was the face of an angel.     And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.     και ατενισαντες εις αυτον παντεσ οι καθεζομενοι εν τω συνεδριω ειδον το προσωπον αυτου ωσει προσωπον αγγελου     and gazing at him, all those sitting in the sanhedrim saw his face as it were the face of a messenger.     et intuentes eum omnes qui sedebant in concilio viderunt faciem eius tamquam faciem angeli
