2.    to Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.     Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.     τιμοθεω γνησιω τεκνω εν πιστει χαρις ελεος ειρηνη απο θεου πατρος και χριστου ιησου του κυριου ημων     to Timotheus -- genuine child in faith: Grace, kindness, peace, from God our Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord,     Timotheo dilecto filio in fide gratia misericordia pax a Deo Patre et Christo Iesu Domino nostro

3.    As I urged you when I was going into Macedonia, stay at Ephesus that you might command certain men not to teach a different doctrine,     As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,     καθως παρεκαλεσα σε προσμειναι εν εφεσω πορευομενος εις μακεδονιαν ινα παραγγειλης τισιν μη ετεροδιδασκαλειν     according as I did exhort thee to remain in Ephesus -- I going on to Macedonia -- that thou mightest charge certain not to teach any other thing,     sicut rogavi te ut remaneres Ephesi cum irem in Macedoniam ut denuntiares quibusdam ne aliter docerent

4.    neither to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which cause disputes, rather than God's stewardship, which is in faith--     Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.     μηδε προσεχειν μυθοις και γενεαλογιαις απεραντοις αιτινες εκζητησεισ παρεχουσιν μαλλον η οικονομιαν θεου την εν πιστει     nor to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, that cause questions rather than the building up of God that is in faith: --     neque intenderent fabulis et genealogiis interminatis quae quaestiones praestant magis quam aedificationem Dei quae est in fide

5.    but the goal of this command is love, out of a pure heart and a good conscience and unfeigned faith;     Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:     το δε τελος της παραγγελιας εστιν αγαπη εκ καθαρας καρδιας και συνειδησεως αγαθης και πιστεως ανυποκριτου     And the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned,     finis autem praecepti est caritas de corde puro et conscientia bona et fide non ficta

6.    from which things some, having missed the mark, have turned aside to vain talking;     From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;     ων τινες αστοχησαντες εξετραπησαν εις ματαιολογιαν     from which certain, having swerved, did turn aside to vain discourse,     a quibus quidam aberrantes conversi sunt in vaniloquium

8.    But we know that the law is good, if a man uses it lawfully,     But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;     οιδαμεν δε οτι καλος ο νομος εαν τις αυτω νομιμως χρηται     and we have known that the law is good, if any one may use it lawfully;     scimus autem quia bona est lex si quis ea legitime utatur

9.    as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,     Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,     ειδως τουτο οτι δικαιω νομος ου κειται ανομοις δε και ανυποτακτοις ασεβεσι και αμαρτωλοις ανοσιοις και βεβηλοις πατρολωαισ και μητρολωαισ ανδροφονοις     having known this, that for a righteous man law is not set, but for lawless and insubordinate persons, ungodly and sinners, impious and profane, parricides and matricides, men-slayers,     sciens hoc quia iusto lex non est posita sed iniustis et non subditis impiis et peccatoribus sceleratis et contaminatis patricidis et matricidis homicidis

10.    for the sexually immoral, for homosexuals, for slave-traders, for liars, for perjurers, and for any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine;     For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;     πορνοις αρσενοκοιταις ανδραποδισταις ψευσταις επιορκοις και ει τι ετερον τη υγιαινουση διδασκαλια αντικειται     whoremongers, sodomites, men-stealers, liars, perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that to sound doctrine is adverse,     fornicariis masculorum concubitoribus plagiariis mendacibus periuris et si quid aliud sanae doctrinae adversatur

11.    according to the Good News of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.     According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.     κατα το ευαγγελιον της δοξης του μακαριου θεου ο επιστευθην εγω     according to the good news of the glory of the blessed God, with which I was entrusted.     quae est secundum evangelium gloriae beati Dei quod creditum est mihi

12.    And I thank him who enabled me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he counted me faithful, appointing me to service;     And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;     χαριν εχω τω ενδυναμωσαντι με χριστω ιησου τω κυριω ημων οτι πιστον με ηγησατο θεμενος εις διακονιαν     And I give thanks to him who enabled me -- Christ Jesus our Lord -- that he did reckon me stedfast, having put me to the ministration,     gratias ago ei qui me confortavit Christo Iesu Domino nostro quia fidelem me existimavit ponens in ministerio

13.    although I was before a blasphemer, a persecutor, and insolent. However, I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.     Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.     το προτερον οντα βλασφημον και διωκτην και υβριστην αλλα ηλεηθην οτι αγνοων εποιησα εν απιστια     who before was speaking evil, and persecuting, and insulting, but I found kindness, because, being ignorant, I did it in unbelief,     qui prius fui blasphemus et persecutor et contumeliosus sed misericordiam consecutus sum quia ignorans feci in incredulitate

16.    However, for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first, Jesus Christ might display all his patience, for an example of those who were going to believe in him for eternal life.     Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.     αλλα δια τουτο ηλεηθην ινα εν εμοι πρωτω ενδειξηται χριστος ιησουσ την απασαν μακροθυμιαν προς υποτυπωσιν των μελλοντων πιστευειν επ αυτω εις ζωην αιωνιον     but because of this I found kindness, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all long-suffering, for a pattern of those about to believe on him to life age-during:     sed ideo misericordiam consecutus sum ut in me primo ostenderet Christus Iesus omnem patientiam ad deformationem eorum qui credituri sunt illi in vitam aeternam
