| 1. | Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly, | Then Jonah prayed to Yahweh, his God, out of the fish's belly. | Then Jonah made prayer to the Lord his God from the inside of the fish, and said, | ||
| 2. | And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice. | He said, "I called because of my affliction to Yahweh. He answered me. Out of the belly of Sheol{Sheol is the place of the dead.} I cried. You heard my voice. | In my trouble I was crying to the Lord, and he gave me an answer; out of the deepest underworld I sent up a cry, and you gave ear to my voice. | ||
| 3. | For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. | For you threw me into the depths, in the heart of the seas. The flood was all around me. All your waves and your billows passed over me. | For you have put me down into the deep, into the heart of the sea; and the river was round about me; all your waves and your rolling waters went over me. | ||
| 4. | Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. | I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.' | And I said, I have been sent away from before your eyes; how may I ever again see your holy Temple? | ||
| 5. | The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. | The waters surrounded me, even to the soul. The deep was around me. The weeds were wrapped around my head. | The waters were circling round me, even to the neck; the deep was about me; the sea-grass was twisted round my head. | ||

| 7. | When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. | "When my soul fainted within me, I remembered Yahweh. My prayer came in to you, into your holy temple. | When my soul in me was overcome, I kept the memory of the Lord: and my prayer came in to you, into your holy Temple. | ||
| 8. | They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. | Those who regard lying vanities forsake their own mercy. | The worshippers of false gods have given up their only hope. | ||
| 9. | But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD. | But I will sacrifice to you with the voice of thanksgiving. I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation belongs to Yahweh." | But I will make an offering to you with the voice of praise; I will give effect to my oaths. Salvation is the Lord's. | ||
| 10. | And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land. | Yahweh spoke to the fish, and it vomited out Jonah on the dry land. | And at the Lord's order, the fish sent Jonah out of its mouth on to the dry land. | ||
