1.    περι δε των χρονων και των καιρων αδελφοι ου χρειαν εχετε υμιν γραφεσθαι     But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.     But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you.     But about the times and their order, my brothers, there is no need for me to say anything to you.

2.    αυτοι γαρ ακριβως οιδατε οτι ημερα κυριου ως κλεπτης εν νυκτι ουτως ερχεται     For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.     For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.     For you yourselves have the knowledge that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

3.    οταν λεγωσιν ειρηνη και ασφαλεια τοτε αιφνιδιος αυτοις εφισταται ολεθρος ωσπερ η ωδιν τη εν γαστρι εχουση και ου μη εκφυγωσιν     For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.     For when they are saying, "Peace and safety," then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.     When they say, There is peace and no danger, then sudden destruction will come on them, as birth-pains on a woman with child; and they will not be able to get away from it.

4.    υμεις δε αδελφοι ουκ εστε εν σκοτει ινα η ημερα υμας ως κλεπτης καταλαβη     But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.     But you, brothers, aren't in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief.     But you, my brothers, are not in the dark, for that day to overtake you like a thief:

5.    παντες γαρ υμεις υιοι φωτος εστε και υιοι ημερας ουκ εσμεν νυκτος ουδε σκοτους     Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.     You are all children of light, and children of the day. We don't belong to the night, nor to darkness,     For you are all sons of light and of the day: we are not of the night or of the dark.

6.    αρα ουν μη καθευδωμεν ως οι λοιποι αλλα γρηγορωμεν και νηφωμεν     Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.     so then let's not sleep, as the rest do, but let's watch and be sober.     So then, let us not take our rest as the others do, but let us be self-controlled and awake.

7.    οι γαρ καθευδοντες νυκτος καθευδουσιν και οι μεθυσκομενοι νυκτος μεθυουσιν     For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.     For those who sleep, sleep in the night, and those who are drunk are drunk in the night.     For those who are sleeping do so in the night; and those who are the worse for drink are so in the night;

8.    ημεις δε ημερας οντες νηφωμεν ενδυσαμενοι θωρακα πιστεως και αγαπης και περικεφαλαιαν ελπιδα σωτηριας     But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.     But let us, since we belong to the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation.     But let us, who are of the day, be serious, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and on our heads, the hope of salvation.

9.    οτι ουκ εθετο ημας ο θεος εις οργην αλλα εις περιποιησιν σωτηριας δια του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου     For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,     For God didn't appoint us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,     For God's purpose for us is not wrath, but salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

10.    του αποθανοντος υπερ ημων ινα ειτε γρηγορωμεν ειτε καθευδωμεν αμα συν αυτω ζησωμεν     Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.     who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.     Who was put to death for us, so that, awake or sleeping, we may have a part in his life.

11.    διο παρακαλειτε αλληλους και οικοδομειτε εις τον ενα καθως και ποιειτε     Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.     Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.     So then, go on comforting and building up one another, as you have been doing.

12.    ερωτωμεν δε υμας αδελφοι ειδεναι τους κοπιωντας εν υμιν και προισταμενους υμων εν κυριω και νουθετουντας υμας     And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;     But we beg you, brothers, to know those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you,     But we make this request to you, my brothers: give attention to those who are working among you, who are over you in the Lord to keep order among you;

13.    και ηγεισθαι αυτους υπερεκπερισσου  εν αγαπη δια το εργον αυτων ειρηνευετε εν εαυτοις     And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.     and to respect and honor them in love for their work's sake. Be at peace among yourselves.     And have a high opinion of them in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.

14.    παρακαλουμεν δε υμας αδελφοι νουθετειτε τους ατακτους παραμυθεισθε τους ολιγοψυχους αντεχεσθε των ασθενων μακροθυμειτε προς παντας     Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.     We exhort you, brothers, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient toward all.     And our desire is that you will keep control over those whose lives are not well ordered, giving comfort to the feeble-hearted, supporting those with little strength, and putting up with much from all.

15.    ορατε μη τις κακον αντι κακου τινι αποδω αλλα παντοτε το αγαθον διωκετε [και] εις αλληλους και εις παντας     See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.     See that no one returns evil for evil to anyone, but always follow after that which is good, for one another, and for all.     Let no one give evil for evil; but ever go after what is good, for one another and for all.

16.    παντοτε χαιρετε     Rejoice evermore.     Rejoice always.     Have joy at all times.

17.    αδιαλειπτως προσευχεσθε     Pray without ceasing.     Pray without ceasing.     Keep on with your prayers.

18.    εν παντι ευχαριστειτε τουτο γαρ θελημα θεου εν χριστω ιησου εις υμας     In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.     In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.     In everything give praise: for this is the purpose of God in Christ Jesus for you.

19.    το πνευμα μη σβεννυτε     Quench not the Spirit.     Don't quench the Spirit.     Do not put out the light of the Spirit;

20.    προφητειας μη εξουθενειτε     Despise not prophesyings.     Don't despise prophesies.     Do not make little of the words of the prophets;

21.    παντα δε δοκιμαζετε το καλον κατεχετε     Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.     Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good.     Let all things be tested; keep to what is good;

22.    απο παντος ειδους πονηρου απεχεσθε     Abstain from all appearance of evil.     Abstain from every form of evil.     Keep from every form of evil.

23.    αυτος δε ο θεος της ειρηνης αγιασαι υμας ολοτελεις και ολοκληρον υμων το πνευμα και η ψυχη και το σωμα αμεμπτως εν τη παρουσια του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου τηρηθειη     And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.     May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.     And may the God of peace himself make you holy in every way; and may your spirit and soul and body be free from all sin at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

24.    πιστος ο καλων υμας ος και ποιησει     Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.     He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.     God, by whom you have been marked out in his purpose, is unchanging and will make it complete.

25.    αδελφοι προσευχεσθε [και] περι ημων     Brethren, pray for us.     Brothers, pray for us.     Brothers, keep us in mind in your prayers.

26.    ασπασασθε τους αδελφους παντας εν φιληματι αγιω     Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.     Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.     Give all the brothers a holy kiss.

27.    ενορκιζω υμας τον κυριον αναγνωσθηναι την επιστολην πασιν τοις αδελφοις     I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.     I solemnly command you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the holy brothers.     I give orders in the name of the Lord that all the brothers are to be present at the reading of this letter.

28.    η χαρις του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου μεθ υμων        The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.     The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.     The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
