ולא־יכל יוסף להתאפק לכל הנצבים עליו ויקרא הוציאו כל־איש מעלי ולא־עמד איש אתו בהתודע יוסף אל־אחיו׃ |
Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren. | Then Joseph couldn't control himself before all those who stood before him, and he cried, "Cause every man to go out from me!" No one else stood with him, while Joseph made himself known to his brothers. | Then Joseph, unable to keep back his feelings before those who were with him, gave orders for everyone to be sent away, and no one was present when he made clear to his brothers who he was. | |||

ויתן את־קלו בבכי וישמעו מצרים וישמע בית פרעה׃ |

ויאמר יוסף אל־אחיו אני יוסף העוד אבי חי ולא־יכלו אחיו לענות אתו כי נבהלו מפניו׃ |
And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence. | Joseph said to his brothers, "I am Joseph! Does my father still live?" His brothers couldn't answer him; for they were terrified at his presence. | And Joseph said to his brothers, I am Joseph: is my father still living? But his brothers were not able to give him an answer for they were troubled before him. | |||

ויאמר יוסף אל־אחיו גשו־נא אלי ויגשו ויאמר אני יוסף אחיכם אשר־ מכרתם אתי מצרימה׃ |
And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. | Joseph said to his brothers, "Come near to me, please." They came near. ועתה אל־תעצבו ואל־יחר בעיניכם כי־מכרתם אתי הנה כי למחיה שלחני אלהים לפניכם׃ |
Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life. | Now don't be grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. | Now do not be troubled or angry with yourselves for sending me away, because God sent me before you to be the saviour of your lives. | |||

כי־זה שנתים הרעב בקרב הארץ ועוד חמש שנים אשר אין־חריש וקציר׃ |
For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest. | For these two years the famine has been in the land, and there are yet five years, in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. | For these two years have been years of need, and there are still five more years to come in which there will be no ploughing or cutting of grain. | |||

וישלחני אלהים לפניכם לשום לכם שארית בארץ ולהחיות לכם לפליטה גדלה׃ |
And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. | God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant in the earth, and to save you alive by a great deliverance. | God sent me before you to keep you and yours living on earth so that you might become a great nation. | |||

ועתה לא־אתם שלחתם אתי הנה כי האלהים וישימני לאב לפרעה ולאדון לכל־ביתו ומשל בכל־ארץ מצרים׃ |

מהרו ועלו אל־אבי ואמרתם אליו כה אמר בנך יוסף שמני אלהים לאדון לכל־מצרים רדה אלי אל־תעמד׃ |
Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not: | Hurry, and go up to my father, and tell him, 'This is what your son Joseph says, "God has made me lord of all Egypt. וישבת בארץ־גשן והיית קרוב אלי אתה ובניך ובני בניך וצאנך ובקרך וכל־אשר־לך׃ |
And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children's children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast: | You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you will be near to me, you, your children, your children's children, your flocks, your herds, and all that you have. | The land of Goshen will be your living-place, and you will be near me; you and your children and your children's children, and your flocks and herds and all you have: | |||

וכלכלתי אתך שם כי־עוד חמש שנים רעב פן־תורש אתה וביתך וכל־אשר־ לך׃ |
And there will I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest thou, and thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty. | There I will nourish you; for there are yet five years of famine; lest you come to poverty, you, and your household, and all that you have."' | And there I will take care of you, so that you and your family may not be in need, for there are still five bad years to come. | |||

והגדתם לאבי את־כל־כבודי במצרים ואת כל־אשר ראיתם ומהרתם והורדתם את־אבי הנה׃ |
And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that ye have seen; and ye shall haste and bring down my father hither. | You shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that you have seen. You shall hurry and bring my father down here." | Give my father word of all my glory in Egypt and of all you have seen; and come back quickly with my father. | |||

ויפל על־צוארי בנימן־אחיו ויבך ובנימן בכה על־צואריו׃ |

וינשק לכל־אחיו ויבך עלהם ואחרי כן דברו אחיו אתו׃ |

והקל נשמע בית פרעה לאמר באו אחי יוסף וייטב בעיני פרעה ובעיני עבדיו׃ |
And the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh's house, saying, Joseph's brethren are come: and it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants. | The report of it was heard in Pharaoh's house, saying, "Joseph's brothers have come." It pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants. | And news of these things went through Pharaoh's house, and it was said that Joseph's brothers were come; and it seemed good to Pharaoh and his servants. | |||

ויאמר פרעה אל־יוסף אמר אל־אחיך זאת עשו טענו את־בעירכם ולכו־ באו ארצה כנען׃ |
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Say unto thy brethren, This do ye; lade your beasts, and go, get you unto the land of Canaan; | Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Tell your brothers, 'Do this. Load your animals, and go, travel to the land of Canaan. | And Pharaoh said to Joseph, Say to your brothers, Put your goods on your beasts and go back to the land of Canaan; | |||

וקחו את־אביכם ואת־בתיכם ובאו אלי ואתנה לכם את־טוב ארץ מצרים ואכלו את־חלב הארץ׃ |

ואתה צויתה זאת עשו קחו־לכם מארץ מצרים עגלות לטפכם ולנשיכם ונשאתם את־אביכם ובאתם׃ |
Now thou art commanded, this do ye; take you wagons out of the land of Egypt for your little ones, and for your wives, and bring your father, and come. | Now you are commanded: do this. ועינכם אל־תחס על־כליכם כי־טוב כל־ארץ מצרים לכם הוא׃ |
Also regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt is yours. | Also, don't concern yourselves about your belongings, for the good of all of the land of Egypt is yours." | And take no thought for your goods, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours. | |||

ויעשו־כן בני ישראל ויתן להם יוסף עגלות על־פי פרעה ויתן להם צדה לדרך׃ |
And the children of Israel did so: and Joseph gave them wagons, according to the commandment of Pharaoh, and gave them provision for the way. | The sons of Israel did so. וישלח את־אחיו וילכו ויאמר אלהם אל־תרגזו בדרך׃ |
So he sent his brethren away, and they departed: and he said unto them, See that ye fall not out by the way. | So he sent his brothers away, and they departed. He said to them, "See that you don't quarrel on the way." | And he sent his brothers on their way, and said to them, See that you have no argument on the road. | |||

ויעלו ממצרים ויבאו ארץ כנען אל־יעקב אביהם׃ |
And they went up out of Egypt, and came into the land of Canaan unto Jacob their father, | They went up out of Egypt, and came into the land of Canaan, to Jacob their father. | So they went up from Egypt and came to the land of Canaan, to their father Jacob. | |||

ויגדו לו לאמר עוד יוסף חי וכי־הוא משל בכל־ארץ מצרים ויפג לבו כי לא־האמין להם׃ |
And told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt. And Jacob's heart fainted, for he believed them not. | They told him, saying, "Joseph is still alive, and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt." His heart fainted, for he didn't believe them. | And they said to him, Joseph is living, and is ruler over all the land of Egypt. And at this word Jacob was quite overcome, for he had no faith in it. | |||

וידברו אליו את כל־דברי יוסף אשר דבר אלהם וירא את־העגלות אשר־ שלח יוסף לשאת אתו ותחי רוח יעקב אביהם׃ |
And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived: | They told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said to them. When he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob, their father, revived. | And they gave him an account of everything Joseph had said to them; and when he saw the carts which Joseph had sent for them, his spirit came back to him: | |||

ויאמר ישראל רב עוד־יוסף בני חי אלכה ואראנו בטרם אמות׃ |
And Israel said, It is enough; Joseph my son is yet alive: I will go and see him before I die. | Israel said, "It is enough. Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die." | And Israel said, It is enough: Joseph my son is still living; I will go and see him before my death. | |||
