וידבר דוד ליהוה את־דברי השירה הזאת ביום הציל יהוה אתו מכף כל־ איביו ומכף שאול׃ |
And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul: | David spoke to Yahweh the words of this song in the day that Yahweh delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul: | And David made a song to the Lord in these words, on the day when the Lord made him free from the hands of all his haters, and from the hand of Saul: | |||

ויאמר יהוה סלעי ומצדתי ומפלטי־לי׃ |
And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; | and he said, "Yahweh is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, even mine; | And he said, The Lord is my Rock, my walled town, and my saviour, even mine; | |||

אלהי צורי אחסה־בו מגני וקרן ישעי משגבי ומנוסי משעי מחמס תשעני׃ |
The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence. | God, my rock, in him I will take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge. My savior, you save me from violence. | My God, my Rock, in him will I put my faith; my breastplate, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my safe place; my saviour, who keeps me safe from the violent man. | |||

מהלל אקרא יהוה ומאיבי אושע׃ |
I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. | I will call on Yahweh, who is worthy to be praised: So shall I be saved from my enemies. | I will send up my cry to the Lord, who is to be praised; so will I be made safe from those who are against me. | |||

כי אפפני משברי־מות נחלי בליעל יבעתני׃ |
When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid; | For the waves of death surrounded me. The floods of ungodliness made me afraid. | For the waves of death came round me, and the seas of evil put me in fear; | |||

חבלי שאול סבני קדמני מקשי־מות׃ |
The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me; | The cords of Sheol{Sheol is the place of the dead.} were around me. The snares of death caught me. | The cords of hell were round me: the nets of death came on me. | |||

בצר־לי אקרא יהוה ואל־אלהי אקרא וישמע מהיכלו קולי ושועתי באזניו׃ |
In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears. | In my distress I called on Yahweh. Yes, I called to my God. He heard my voice out of his temple. My cry [came] into his ears. | In my trouble my voice went up to the Lord, and my cry to my God: my voice came to his hearing in his holy Temple, and my prayer came to his ears. | |||

ותגעש ותרעש הארץ מוסדות השמים ירגזו ויתגעשו כי־חרה לו׃ |
Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth. | Then the earth shook and trembled. The foundations of heaven quaked and were shaken, because he was angry. | Then the earth was moved with a violent shock; the bases of heaven were moved and shaking, because he was angry. | |||

עלה עשן באפו ואש מפיו תאכל גחלים בערו ממנו׃ |

ויט שמים וירד וערפל תחת רגליו׃ |

וירכב על־כרוב ויעף וירא על־כנפי־רוח׃ |

וישת חשך סביבתיו סכות חשרת־מים עבי שחקים׃ |
And he made darkness pavilions round about him, dark waters, and thick clouds of the skies. | He made darkness pavilions around himself: gathering of waters, and thick clouds of the skies. | And he made the dark his tent round him, a mass of waters, thick clouds of the skies. | |||

מנגה נגדו בערו גחלי־אש׃ |
Through the brightness before him were coals of fire kindled. | At the brightness before him, coals of fire were kindled. | Before his shining light his dark clouds went past, raining ice and coals of fire. | |||

ירעם מן־שמים יהוה ועליון יתן קולו׃ |
The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice. | Yahweh thundered from heaven. The Most High uttered his voice. | The Lord made thunder in the heavens, and the voice of the Highest was sounding out. | |||

וישלח חצים ויפיצם ברק ויהמם׃ |
And he sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them. | He sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and confused them. | And he sent out his arrows, driving them in all directions; by his flames of fire they were troubled. | |||

ויראו אפקי ים יגלו מסדות תבל בגערת יהוה מנשמת רוח אפו׃ |
And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered, at the rebuking of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils. | Then the channels of the sea appeared. ישלח ממרום יקחני ימשני ממים רבים׃ |
He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters; | He sent from on high and he took me. He drew me out of many waters. | He sent from on high, he took me, pulling me out of great waters. | |||

יצילני מאיבי עז משנאי כי אמצו ממני׃ |
He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me. | He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me. | He made me free from my strong hater, from those who were against me, because they were stronger than I. | |||

יקדמני ביום אידי ויהי יהוה משען לי׃ |

ויצא למרחב אתי יחלצני כי־חפץ בי׃ |
He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me. | He also brought me out into a large place. He delivered me, because he delighted in me. | He took me out into a wide place; he was my saviour because he had delight in me. | |||

יגמלני יהוה כצדקתי כבר ידי ישיב לי׃ |
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me. | Yahweh rewarded me according to my righteousness. He rewarded me according to the cleanness of my hands. | The Lord gives me the reward of my righteousness, because my hands are clean before him. | |||

כי שמרתי דרכי יהוה ולא רשעתי מאלהי׃ |
For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. | For I have kept the ways of Yahweh, and have not wickedly departed from my God. | For I have kept the ways of the Lord; I have not been turned away in sin from my God. | |||

כי כל־משפטו לנגדי וחקתיו לא־אסור ממנה׃ |
For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them. | For all his ordinances were before me. As for his statutes, I did not depart from them. | For all his decisions were before me, and I did not put away his laws from me. | |||

ואהיה תמים לו ואשתמרה מעוני׃ |
I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from mine iniquity. | I was also perfect toward him. I kept myself from my iniquity. | And I was upright before him, and I kept myself from sin. | |||

וישב יהוה לי כצדקתי כברי לנגד עיניו׃ |
Therefore the LORD hath recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye sight. | Therefore Yahweh has rewarded me according to my righteousness, According to my cleanness in his eyesight. | Because of this the Lord has given me the reward of my righteousness, because my hands are clean in his eyes. | |||

עם־חסיד תתחסד עם־גבור תמים תתמם׃ |
With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, and with the upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright. | With the merciful you will show yourself merciful. With the perfect man you will show yourself perfect. | On him who has mercy you will have mercy; to the upright you will be upright; | |||

עם־נבר תתבר ועם־עקש תתפל׃ |
With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury. | With the pure you will show yourself pure. With the crooked you will show yourself shrewd. | He who is holy will see that you are holy; but to the man whose way is not straight you will be a hard judge. | |||

ואת־עם עני תושיע ועיניך על־רמים תשפיל׃ |
And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down. | You will save the afflicted people, But your eyes are on the haughty, that you may bring them down. | For you are the saviour of those who are in trouble; but your eyes are on men of pride, to make them low. | |||

כי־אתה נירי יהוה ויהוה יגיה חשכי׃ |
For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness. | For you are my lamp, Yahweh. Yahweh will light up my darkness. | For you are my light, O Lord; and the Lord will make the dark bright for me. | |||

כי בכה ארוץ גדוד באלהי אדלג־שור׃ |
For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall. | For by you, I run against a troop. By my God, I leap over a wall. | By your help I have made a way through the wall which was shutting me in: by the help of my God I have gone over a wall. | |||

האל תמים דרכו אמרת יהוה צרופה מגן הוא לכל החסים בו׃ |
As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. | As for God, his way is perfect. The word of Yahweh is tested. He is a shield to all those who take refuge in him. | As for God, his way is all good: the word of the Lord is tested; he is a safe cover for all those who put their faith in him. | |||

כי מי־אל מבלעדי יהוה ומי צור מבלעדי אלהינו׃ |
For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God? | For who is God, besides Yahweh? Who is a rock, besides our God? | For who is God but the Lord? and who is a Rock but our God? | |||
| 33. |
האל מעוזי חיל ויתר תמים דרכו׃ |
God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect. | God is my strong fortress. He makes my way perfect. | God puts a strong band about me, guiding me in a straight way. | |||

משוה רגליו כאילות ועל במותי יעמדני׃ |
He maketh my feet like hinds' feet: and setteth me upon my high places. | He makes his feet like hinds' [feet], and sets me on my high places. | He makes my feet like roes' feet, and puts me on high places. | |||
| 35. |
מלמד ידי למלחמה ונחת קשת־נחושה זרעתי׃ |
He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms. | He teaches my hands to war, so that my arms bend a bow of brass. | He makes my hands expert in war, so that a bow of brass is bent by my arms. | |||

ותתן־לי מגן ישעך וענתך תרבני׃ |
Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great. | You have also given me the shield of your salvation. Your gentleness has made me great. | You have given me the breastplate of your salvation, and your mercy has made me great. | |||

תרחיב צעדי תחתני ולא מעדו קרסלי׃ |
Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip. | You have enlarged my steps under me. My feet have not slipped. | You have made my steps wide under me, so that my feet make no slip. | |||
| 38. |
ארדפה איבי ואשמידם ולא אשוב עד־כלותם׃ |
I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them. | I have pursued my enemies and destroyed them. I didn't turn again until they were consumed. | I go after my haters and overtake them; not turning back till they are all overcome. | |||

ואכלם ואמחצם ולא יקומון ויפלו תחת רגלי׃ |
And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet. | I have consumed them, and struck them through, so that they can't arise. Yes, they have fallen under my feet. | I have sent destruction on them and given them wounds, so that they are not able to get up: they are stretched under my feet. | |||

ותזרני חיל למלחמה תכריע קמי תחתני׃ |
For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me. | For you have armed me with strength for the battle. You have subdued under me those who rose up against me. | For I have been armed by you with strength for the fight: you have made low under me those who came out against me. | |||

ואיבי תתה לי ערף משנאי ואצמיתם׃ |
Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me. | You have also made my enemies turn their backs to me, that I might cut off those who hate me. | By you their backs are turned in flight, so that my haters are cut off. | |||

ישעו ואין משיע אל־יהוה ולא ענם׃ |
They looked, but there was none to save; even unto the LORD, but he answered them not. | They looked, but there was none to save; even to Yahweh, but he didn't answer them. | They were crying out, but there was no one to come to their help: even to the Lord, but he gave them no answer. | |||

ואשחקם כעפר־ארץ כטיט־חוצות אדקם ארקעם׃ |
Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad. | Then I beat them as small as the dust of the earth. I crushed them as the mire of the streets, and spread them abroad. | Then they were crushed as small as the dust of the earth, stamped down under my feet like the waste of the streets. | |||

ותפלטני מריבי עמי תשמרני לראש גוים עם לא־ידעתי יעבדני׃ |
Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen: a people which I knew not shall serve me. | You also have delivered me from the strivings of my people. You have kept me to be the head of the nations. A people whom I have not known will serve me. | You have made me free from the fightings of my people; you have made me the head of the nations: a people of whom I had no knowledge will be my servants. | |||
| 45. |
בני נכר יתכחשו־לי לשמוע אזן ישמעו לי׃ |
Strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me. | The foreigners will submit themselves to me. As soon as they hear of me, they will obey me. | Men of other countries will, with false hearts, put themselves under my authority: from the time when my name comes to their ears, they will be ruled by me. | |||
| 46. |
בני נכר יבלו ויחגרו ממסגרותם׃ |
Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places. | The foreigners will fade away, and will come trembling out of their close places. | They will be wasted away, they will come out of their secret places shaking with fear. | |||
| 47. |
חי־יהוה וברוך צורי וירם אלהי צור ישעי׃ |
The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation. | Yahweh lives! Blessed be my rock! Exalted be God, the rock of my salvation, | The Lord is living; praise be to my Rock, and let the God of my salvation be honoured: | |||
| 48. |
האל הנתן נקמת לי ומוריד עמים תחתני׃ |
It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me, | even the God who executes vengeance for me, who brings down peoples under me, | It is God who sends punishment on my haters, and puts peoples under my rule. | |||

ומוציאי מאיבי ומקמי תרוממני מאיש חמסים תצילני׃ |
And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man. | who brings me away from my enemies. Yes, you lift me up above those who rise up against me. You deliver me from the violent man. | He makes me free from my haters: I am lifted up over those who come up against me: you have made me free from the violent man. | |||

על־כן אודך יהוה בגוים ולשמך אזמר׃ |
Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name. | Therefore I will give thanks to you, Yahweh, among the nations. Will sing praises to your name. | Because of this I will give you praise, O Lord, among the nations, and will make a song of praise to your name. | |||

מגדיל ישועות מלכו ועשה־חסד למשיחו לדוד ולזרעו עד־עולם׃ |
He is the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore. | He gives great deliverance to his king, and shows loving kindness to his anointed, to David and to his seed, forevermore." | Great salvation does he give to his king; he has mercy on the king of his selection, David, and on his seed for ever. | |||
