ויאמר מלך־ישראל אל־יהושפט עוד איש־אחד לדרש את־יהוה מאתו ואני שנאתיו כי לא־יתנבא עלי טוב כי אם־רע מיכיהו בן־ימלה ויאמר יהושפט אל־יאמר המלך כן׃ |
And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak that which is good. | The messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, "See now, the the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth. So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king. | When he had come to the king, the king said to him, "Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall we forbear?" ויאמר אליו המלך עד־כמה פעמים אני משבעך אשר לא־תדבר אלי רק־ אמת בשם יהוה׃ |
And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the LORD? | The king said to him, "How many times do I have to adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of Yahweh?" | Then the king said to him, Have I not, again and again, put you on your oath to say nothing to me but what is true in the name of the Lord? | |||

ויאמר ראיתי את־כל־ישראל נפצים אל־ההרים כצאן אשר אין־להם רעה ויאמר יהוה לא־אדנים לאלה ישובו איש־לביתו בשלום׃ |
And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace. | He said, "I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. Yahweh said, 'These have no master. Let them each return to his house in peace.'" | Then he said, I saw all Israel wandering on the mountains like sheep without a keeper; and the Lord said, These have no master: let them go back, every man to his house in peace. | |||

ויאמר מלך־ישראל אל־יהושפט הלוא אמרתי אליך לוא־יתנבא עלי טוב כי אם־רע׃ |
And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil? | The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Didn't I tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?" | And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not say that he would not be a prophet of good but of evil? | |||

ויאמר לכן שמע דבר־יהוה ראיתי את־יהוה ישב על־כסאו וכל־צבא השמים עמד עליו מימינו ומשמאלו׃ |
And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left. | Micaiah said, "Therefore hear the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left. | And he said, Give ear now to the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord seated on his seat of power, with all the army of heaven in their places round him at his right hand and at his left. | |||

ויאמר יהוה מי יפתה את־אחאב ויעל ויפל ברמת גלעד ויאמר זה בכה וזה אמר בכה׃ |
And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner. | Yahweh said, 'Who shall entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?' One said one thing; and another said another. | And the Lord said, How may Ahab be tricked into going up to Ramoth-gilead to his death? And one said one thing and one another. | |||

ויצא הרוח ויעמד לפני יהוה ויאמר אני אפתנו ויאמר יהוה אליו במה׃ |
And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him. | A spirit came out and stood before Yahweh, and said, 'I will entice him.' | Then a spirit came forward and took his place before the Lord and said, I will get him to do it by a trick. | |||

ויאמר אצא והייתי רוח שקר בפי כל־נביאיו ויאמר תפתה וגם־תוכל צא ועשה־כן׃ |
And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so. | Yahweh said to him, 'How?' He said, 'I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' He said, 'You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.' | And the Lord said, How? And he said, I will go out and be a spirit of deceit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Your trick will have its effect on him: go out and do so. | |||

ועתה הנה נתן יהוה רוח שקר בפי כל־נביאיך אלה ויהוה דבר עליך רעה׃ |
Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee. | Now therefore, behold, Yahweh has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and Yahweh has spoken evil concerning you." | And now, see, the Lord has put a spirit of deceit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and the Lord has said evil against you. | |||

ויגש צדקיהו בן־כנענה ויכה את־מיכיהו על־הלחי ויאמר אי־זה עבר רוח־יהוה מאתי לדבר אותך׃ |
But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee? | Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, "Which way did the Spirit of Yahweh go from me to speak to you?" | Then Zedekiah, the son of Chenaanah, came near and gave Micaiah a blow on the side of the face, saying, Where is the spirit of the Lord whose word is in you? | |||

ויאמר מיכיהו הנך ראה ביום ההוא אשר תבא חדר בחדר להחבה׃ |
And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself. | Micaiah said, "Behold, you will see on that day, when you go into an inner chamber to hide yourself." | And Micaiah said, Truly, you will see on that day when you go into an inner room to keep yourself safe. | |||

ואמרת כה אמר המלך שימו את־זה בית הכלא והאכילהו לחם לחץ ומים לחץ עד באי בשלום׃ |
And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace. | Say, 'Thus says the king, "Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace."'" | And say, It is the king's order that this man is to be put in prison and given prison food till I come again in peace. | |||

ויאמר מיכיהו אם־שוב תשוב בשלום לא־דבר יהוה בי ויאמר שמעו עמים כלם׃ |
And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you. | Micaiah said, "If you return at all in peace, Yahweh has not spoken by me." And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded. | A certain man drew his bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, "Turn your hand, and carry me out of the battle; for I am severely wounded." | And a certain man sent an arrow from his bow without thought of its direction, and gave the king of Israel a wound where his breastplate was joined to his clothing; so he said to the driver of his war-carriage, Go to one side and take me away out of the army, for I am badly wounded. | |||
