1.    ויתחזק  שלמה 
בן־דויד  על־מלכותו
ויהוה  אלהיו  עמו
ויגדלהו  למעלה׃
    And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly.     Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and Yahweh{"Yahweh" is God's proper Name, sometimes rendered "LORD" (all caps) in other translations.} his God{The Hebrew word rendered "God" is "Elohim."} was with him, and magnified him exceedingly.     And Solomon, the son of David, made himself strong in his kingdom, and the Lord his God was with him, and made him very great.
 
2.    ויאמר  שלמה 
לכל־ישראל  לשרי
האלפים  והמאות
ולשפטים  ולכל  נשיא
לכל־  ישראל  ראשי
האבות׃
    Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers.     Solomon spoke to all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every prince in all Israel, the heads of the fathers' [houses].     And Solomon sent word to all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds and to the judges and to every chief in all Israel, heads of their families.
 
3.    וילכו  שלמה 
וכל־הקהל  עמו  לבמה
אשר  בגבעון  כי־שם
היה  אהל  מועד
האלהים  אשר  עשה
משה  עבד־יהוה
במדבר׃
    So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.     So Solomon, and all the assembly with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the Tent of Meeting of God, which Moses the servant of Yahweh had made in the wilderness.     Then Solomon, and all the men of Israel with him, went to the high place at Gibeon, because the Tent of meeting of God, which Moses, the servant of the Lord, had made in the waste land, was there.
 
4.    אבל  ארון  האלהים 
העלה  דויד  מקרית
יערים  בהכין  לו
דויד  כי  נטה־לו
אהל  בירושלם׃
    But the ark of God had David brought up from Kirjathjearim to the place which David had prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem.     But David had brought the ark of God up from Kiriath Jearim to the place that David had prepared for it; for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem.     But the ark of God had been moved by David from Kiriath-jearim to the place which he had made ready for it, for he had put up a tent for it at Jerusalem.
 
5.    ומזבח  הנחשת  אשר 
עשה  בצלאל  בן־אורי
בן־חור  שם  לפני
משכן  יהוה  וידרשהו
שלמה  והקהל׃
    Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.     Moreover the bronze altar, that Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, was there before the tabernacle of Yahweh: and Solomon and the assembly were seeking counsel there.     And the altar of brass which Bezalel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, was there before the Tent of the Lord; and Solomon and all the people went to give worship there.
 
6.    ויעל  שלמה  שם 
על־מזבח  הנחשת
לפני  יהוה  אשר
לאהל  מועד  ויעל
עליו  עלות  אלף׃
    And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.     Solomon went up there to the bronze altar before Yahweh, which was at the Tent of Meeting, and offered one thousand burnt offerings on it.     And Solomon went up there to the brass altar before the Lord at the Tent of meeting, offering on it a thousand burned offerings.
 
7.    בלילה  ההוא  נראה 
אלהים  לשלמה  ויאמר
לו  שאל  מה  אתן־לך׃
    In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.     In that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, "Ask what I shall give you."     In that night God came to Solomon in a vision, and said to him, Say what I am to give you.
 
8.    ויאמר  שלמה  לאלהים 
אתה  עשית  עם־דויד
אבי  חסד  גדול
והמלכתני  תחתיו׃
    And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead.     Solomon said to God, "You have shown great loving kindness to David my father, and have made me king in his place.     And Solomon said to God, Great was your mercy to David my father, and you have made me king in his place.
 
9.    עתה  יהוה  אלהים 
יאמן  דברך  עם  דויד
אבי  כי  אתה
המלכתני  על־עם  רב
כעפר  הארץ׃
    Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.     Now, Yahweh God, let your promise to David my father be established; for you have made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.     Now, O Lord God, let your word to David my father come true; for you have made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in number.
 
10.    עתה  חכמה  ומדע 
תן־לי  ואצאה  לפני
העם־הזה  ואבואה
כי־מי  ישפט  את־
עמך  הזה  הגדול׃
    Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?     Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this your people, that is so great?"     Give me now wisdom and knowledge, so that I may go out and come in before this people: for who is able to be the judge of this great people of yours?
 
11.    ויאמר־אלהים  לשלמה 
יען  אשר  היתה  זאת
עם־לבבך  ולא־שאלת
עשר  נכסים  וכבוד
ואת  נפש  שנאיך
וגם־ימים  רבים  לא
שאלת  ותשאל־לך
חכמה  ומדע  אשר
תשפוט  את־עמי  אשר
המלכתיך  עליו׃
    And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:     God said to Solomon, "Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches, wealth, or honor, nor the life of those who hate you, neither yet have asked long life; but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge my people, over whom I have made you king:     And God said to Solomon, Because this was in your heart, and you did not make request for money, property, or honour, or for the destruction of your haters, or for long life; but you have made request for wisdom and knowledge for yourself, so that you may be the judge of my people over whom I have made you king:
 
12.    החכמה  והמדע  נתון 
לך  ועשר  ונכסים
וכבוד  אתן־לך  אשר
לא־היה  כן  למלכים
אשר  לפניך  ואחריך
לא  יהיה־כן׃
    Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.     wisdom and knowledge is granted to you. I will give you riches, wealth, and honor, such as none of the kings have had who have been before you; neither shall there any after you have the like."     Wisdom and knowledge are given to you; and I will give you wealth and honour, such as no king has had before you or ever will have after you.
 
13.    ויבא  שלמה  לבמה 
אשר־בגבעון  ירושלם
מלפני  אהל  מועד
וימלך  על־  ישראל׃
    Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel.     So Solomon came from the high place that was at Gibeon, from before the Tent of Meeting, to Jerusalem; and he reigned over Israel.     So Solomon went back from the high place at Gibeon, from before the Tent of meeting, to Jerusalem; and he was king over Israel.
 
14.    ויאסף  שלמה  רכב 
ופרשים  ויהי־לו
אלף  וארבע־מאות
רכב  ושנים־עשר  אלף
פרשים  ויניחם  בערי
הרכב  ועם־המלך
בירושלם׃
    And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.     Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and he had one thousand four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, that he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.     And Solomon got together war-carriages and horsemen; he had one thousand, four hundred carriages and twelve thousand horsemen, which he kept, some in the carriage-towns and some with the king at Jerusalem.
 
15.    ויתן  המלך  את־הכסף 
ואת־הזהב  בירושלם
כאבנים  ואת  הארזים
נתן  כשקמים
אשר־בשפלה  לרב׃
    And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the vale for abundance.     The king made silver and gold to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycamore trees that are in the lowland, for abundance.     And the king made silver and gold as common as stones in Jerusalem, and cedar like the sycamore-trees of the lowland in number.
 
16.    ומוצא  הסוסים  אשר 
לשלמה  ממצרים
ומקוא  סחרי  המלך
מקוא  יקחו  במחיר׃
    And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king's merchants received the linen yarn at a price.     The horses which Solomon had were brought out of Egypt and from Kue; the king's merchants purchased them from Kue.     And Solomon's horses came out of Egypt; the king's traders got them from Kue at a price.
 
17.    ויעלו  ויוציאו 
ממצרים  מרכבה  בשש
מאות  כסף  וסוס
בחמשים  ומאה  וכן
לכל־מלכי  החתים
ומלכי  ארם  בידם
יוציאו׃
    And they fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out horses for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their means.     They brought up and brought out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred pieces of silver, and a horse for one hundred fifty: and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of Syria, did they bring them out by their means.     A war-carriage might be got from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty: they got them at the same rate for all the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Aram.
