שיר המעלות בשוב יהוה את־שיבת ציון היינו כחלמים׃ |
When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. | {A Song of Ascents.} When Yahweh brought back those who returned to Zion, we were like those who dream. |
A Song of the going up. When the Lord made a change in Zion's fate, we were like men in a dream. |

אז ימלא שחוק פינו ולשוננו רנה אז יאמרו בגוים הגדיל יהוה לעשות עם־אלה׃ |
Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them. | Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing. הזרעים בדמעה ברנה יקצרו׃ |
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. | Those who sow in tears will reap in joy. | Those who put in seed with weeping will get in the grain with cries of joy. | |||

הלוך ילך ובכה נשא משך־הזרע בא־יבוא ברנה נשא אלמתיו׃ |
He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. | He who goes out weeping, carrying seed for sowing, will certainly come again with joy, carrying his sheaves. | Though a man may go out weeping, taking his vessel of seed with him; he will come again in joy, with the corded stems of grain in his arms. | |||
