1.    זכר  יהוה  מה־היה 
לנו  הביט  וראה
את־חרפתנו׃
    Remember, O LORD, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach.     Remember, Yahweh, what has come on us: Look, and see our reproach.     Keep in mind, O Lord, what has come to us: take note and see our shame.
 
2.    נחלתנו  נהפכה 
לזרים  בתינו
לנכרים׃
    Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens.     Our inheritance is turned to strangers, Our houses to aliens.     Our heritage is given up to men of strange lands, our houses to those who are not our countrymen.
 
3.    יתומים  היינו  אין 
אב  אמתינו
כאלמנות׃
    We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows.     We are orphans and fatherless; Our mothers are as widows.     We are children without fathers, our mothers are like widows.
 
4.    מימינו  בכסף  שתינו 
עצינו  במחיר  יבאו׃
    We have drunken our water for money; our wood is sold unto us.     We have drunken our water for money; Our wood is sold to us.     We give money for a drink of water, we get our wood for a price.
 
5.    על  צוארנו  נרדפנו 
יגענו  לא
הונח־לנו׃
    Our necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest.     Our pursuers are on our necks: We are weary, and have no rest.     Our attackers are on our necks: overcome with weariness, we have no rest.
 
6.    מצרים  נתנו  יד 
אשור  לשבע  לחם׃
    We have given the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.     We have given the hand to the Egyptians, To the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.     We have given our hands to the Egyptians and to the Assyrians so that we might have enough bread.
 
7.    אבתינו  חטאו  אינם 
אנחנו  עונתיהם
סבלנו׃
    Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities.     Our fathers sinned, and are no more; We have borne their iniquities.     Our fathers were sinners and are dead; and the weight of their evil-doing is on us.
 
8.    עבדים  משלו  בנו 
פרק  אין  מידם׃
    Servants have ruled over us: there is none that doth deliver us out of their hand.     Servants rule over us: There is none to deliver us out of their hand.     Servants are ruling over us, and there is no one to make us free from their hands.
 
9.    בנפשנו  נביא  לחמנו 
מפני  חרב  המדבר׃
    We gat our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness.     We get our bread at the peril of our lives, Because of the sword of the wilderness.     We put our lives in danger to get our bread, because of the sword of the waste land.
 
10.    עורנו  כתנור  נכמרו 
מפני  זלעפות  רעב׃
    Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine.     Our skin is black like an oven, Because of the burning heat of famine.     Our skin is heated like an oven because of our burning heat from need of food.
 
11.    נשים  בציון  ענו 
בתלת  בערי  יהודה׃
    They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah.     They ravished the women in Zion, The virgins in the cities of Judah.     They took by force the women in Zion, the virgins in the towns of Judah.
 
12.    שרים  בידם  נתלו 
פני  זקנים  לא
נהדרו׃
    Princes are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not honoured.     Princes were hanged up by their hand: The faces of elders were not honored.     Their hands put princes to death by hanging: the faces of old men were not honoured.
 
13.    בחורים  טחון  נשאו 
ונערים  בעץ  כשלו׃
    They took the young men to grind, and the children fell under the wood.     The young men bare the mill; The children stumbled under the wood.     The young men were crushing the grain, and the boys were falling under the wood.
 
14.    זקנים  משער  שבתו 
בחורים  מנגינתם׃
    The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their musick.     The elders have ceased from the gate, The young men from their music.     The old men are no longer seated in the doorway, and the music of the young men has come to an end.
 
15.    שבת  משוש  לבנו 
נהפך  לאבל  מחלנו׃
    The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.     The joy of our heart is ceased; Our dance is turned into mourning.     The joy of our hearts is ended; our dancing is changed into sorrow.
 
16.    נפלה  עטרת  ראשנו 
אוי־נא  לנו  כי
חטאנו׃
    The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!     The crown is fallen from our head: Woe to us! for we have sinned.     The crown has been taken from our head: sorrow is ours, for we are sinners.
 
17.    על־זה  היה  דוה 
לבנו  על־אלה  חשכו
עינינו׃
    For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.     For this our heart is faint; For these things our eyes are dim;     Because of this our hearts are feeble; for these things our eyes are dark;
 
18.    על  הר־ציון  ששמם 
שועלים  הלכו־בו׃
    Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it.     For the mountain of Zion, which is desolate: The foxes walk on it.     Because of the mountain of Zion which is a waste; jackals go over it.
 
19.    אתה  יהוה  לעולם 
תשב  כסאך  לדר
ודור׃
    Thou, O LORD, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.     You, Yahweh, abide forever; Your throne is from generation to generation.     You, O Lord, are seated as King for ever; the seat of your power is eternal.
 
20.    למה  לנצח  תשכחנו 
תעזבנו  לארך  ימים׃
    Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?     Why do you forget us forever, [And] forsake us so long time?     Why have we gone from your memory for ever? why have you been turned away from us for so long?
 
21.    השיבנו  יהוה  אליך 
ונשוב  חדש  ימינו
כקדם׃
    Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.     Turn us to yourself, Yahweh, and we shall be turned. Renew our days as of old.     Make us come back to you, O Lord, and let us be turned; make our days new again as in the past.
 
22.    כי  אם־מאס  מאסתנו 
קצפת  עלינו
עד־מאד׃
    But thou hast utterly rejected us; thou art very wroth against us.     But you have utterly rejected us; You are very angry against us.     But you have quite given us up; you are full of wrath against us.
