1.    שפר  קדם  דריוש 
והקים  על־מלכותא
לאחשדרפניא  מאה
ועשרין  די  להון
בכל־מלכותא׃
    It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;     It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom one hundred twenty satraps, who should be throughout the whole kingdom;     Darius was pleased to put over the kingdom a hundred and twenty captains, who were to be all through the kingdom;
 
2.    ועלא  מנהון  סרכין 
תלתא  די  דניאל
חד־מנהון  די־להון
אחשדרפניא  אלין
יהבין  להון  טעמא
ומלכא  לא־להוא
נזק׃
    And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.     and over them three presidents, of whom Daniel was one; that these satraps might give account to them, and that the king should have no damage.     And over them were three chief rulers, of whom Daniel was one; and the captains were to be responsible to the chief rulers, so that the king might undergo no loss.
 
3.    אדין  דניאל  דנה 
הוא  מתנצח
על־סרכיא
ואחשדרפניא  כל־קבל
די  רוח  יתירא  בה
ומלכא  עשית
להקמותה
על־כל־מלכותא׃
    Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.     Then this Daniel was distinguished above the presidents and the satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.     Then this Daniel did his work better than the chief rulers and the captains, because there was a special spirit in him; and it was the king's purpose to put him over all the kingdom.
 
4.    אדין  סרכיא 
ואחשדרפניא  הוו
בעין  עלה  להשכחה
לדניאל  מצד  מלכותא
וכל־עלה  ושחיתה
לא־יכלין  להשכחה
כל־קבל  די־מהימן
הוא  וכל־שלו
ושחיתה  לא  השתכחת
עלוהי׃
    Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.     Then the presidents and the satraps sought to find occasion against Daniel as touching the kingdom; but they could find no occasion nor fault, because he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.     Then the chief rulers and the captains were looking for some cause for putting Daniel in the wrong in connection with the kingdom, but they were unable to put forward any wrongdoing or error against him; because he was true, and no error or wrong was to be seen in him.
 
5.    אדין  גבריא  אלך 
אמרין  די  לא  נהשכח
לדניאל  דנה  כל־עלא
להן  השכחנה  עלוהי
בדת  אלהה׃
    Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.     Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.     Then these men said, We will only get a reason for attacking Daniel in connection with the law of his God.
 
6.    אדין  סרכיא 
ואחשדרפניא  אלן
הרגשו  על־מלכא  וכן
אמרין  לה  דריוש
מלכא  לעלמין  חיי׃
    Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.     Then these presidents and satraps assembled together to the king, and said thus to him, King Darius, live forever.     Then these chief rulers and the captains came to the king and said to him, O King Darius, have life for ever.
 
7.    אתיעטו  כל  סרכי 
מלכותא  סגניא
ואחשדרפניא  הדבריא
ופחותא  לקימה  קים
מלכא  ולתקפה  אסר
די  כל־די־יבעה  בעו
מן־כל־אלה  ואנש
עד־יומין  תלתין
להן  מנך  מלכא
יתרמא  לגב  אריותא׃
    All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.     All the presidents of the kingdom, the deputies and the satraps, the counselors and the governors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a strong decree, that whoever shall ask a petition of any god or man for thirty days, except of you, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.     All the chief rulers of the kingdom, the chiefs and the captains, the wise men and the rulers, have made a common decision to put in force a law having the king's authority, and to give a strong order, that whoever makes any request to any god or man but you, O King, for thirty days, is to be put into the lions' hole.

לביתה  וכוין  פתיחן
לה  בעליתה  נגד
ירושלם  וזמנין

ברך  על־ברכוהי
ומצלא  ומודא  קדם
אלהה  כל־קבל
די־הוא  עבד
מן־קדמת  דנה׃
    Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.     When Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house (now his windows were open in his chamber toward Jerusalem) and he kneeled on his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did before.     And Daniel, on hearing that the writing had been signed, went into his house; (now he had windows in his room on the roof opening in the direction of Jerusalem;) and three times a day he went down on his knees in prayer and praise before his God, as he had done before.

הרגשו  והשכחו
לדניאל  בעא  ומתחנן
קדם  אלהה׃
    Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.     Then these men assembled together, and found Daniel making petition and supplication before his God.     Then these men were watching and saw Daniel making prayers and requesting grace before his God.
 
12.    באדין  קריבו 
ואמרין  קדם־מלכא
על־אסר  מלכא  הלא
אסר  רשמת  די  כל־
אנש  די־יבעה
מן־כל־אלה  ואנש
עד־יומין  תלתין
להן  מנך  מלכא
יתרמא  לגוב  אריותא
ענה  מלכא  ואמר
יציבא  מלתא
כדת־מדי  ופרס
די־לא  תעדא׃
    Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.     Then they came near, and spoke before the king concerning the king's decree: Haven't you signed an decree, that every man who shall make petition to any god or man within thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which doesn't alter.     Then they came near before the king and said, O King, have you not put your name to an order that any man who makes a request to any god or man but you, O King, for thirty days, is to be put into the lions' hole? The king made answer and said, The thing is fixed by the law of the Medes and Persians which may not come to an end.
 
13.    באדין  ענו  ואמרין 
קדם  מלכא  די  דניאל
די  מן־בני  גלותא
די  יהוד  לא־שם
עליך  מלכא  טעם
ועל־אסרא  די  רשמת
וזמנין  תלתה  ביומא
בעא  בעותה׃
    Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.     Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, who is of the children of the captivity of Judah, doesn't respect you, O king, nor the decree that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.     Then they made answer and said before the king, Daniel, one of the prisoners of Judah, has no respect for you, O King, or for the order signed by you, but three times a day he makes his prayer to God.
 
14.    אדין  מלכא  כדי 
מלתא  שמע  שגיא  באש
עלוהי  ועל  דניאל
שם  בל  לשיזבותה
ועד  מעלי  שמשא  הוא
משתדר  להצלותה׃
    Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.     Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored until the going down of the sun to rescue him.     When this thing came to the king's ears, it was very evil to him, and his heart was fixed on keeping Daniel safe, and till the going down of the sun he was doing everything in his power to get him free.
 
15.    באדין  גבריא  אלך 
הרגשו  על־מלכא
ואמרין  למלכא  דע
מלכא  די־דת  למדי
ופרס  די־כל־אסר
וקים  די־מלכא
יהקים  לא  להשניה׃
    Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.     Then these men assembled together to the king, and said to the king, Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians, that no decree nor statute which the king establishes may be changed.     Then these men said to the king, Be certain, O King, that by the law of the Medes and Persians no order or law which the king has put into force may be changed.
 
16.    באדין  מלכא  אמר 
והיתיו  לדניאל
ורמו  לגבא  די
אריותא  ענה  מלכא
ואמר  לדניאל  אלהך
די  אנתה  פלח־לה
בתדירא  הוא
ישיזבנך׃
    Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.     Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. [Now] the king spoke and said to Daniel, Your God whom you serve continually, he will deliver you.     Then the king gave the order, and they took Daniel and put him into the lions' hole. 17.    והיתית  אבן  חדה 
ושמת  על־פם  גבא
וחתמה  מלכא  בעזקתה
ובעזקת  רברבנוהי
די  לא־תשנא  צבו

    And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.     A stone was brought, and laid on the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.     Then they got a stone and put it over the mouth of the hole, and it was stamped with the king's stamp and with the stamp of the lords, so that the decision about Daniel might not be changed.
 
18.    אדין  אזל  מלכא 
להיכלה  ובת  טות
ודחון  לא־הנעל
קדמוהי  ושנתה  נדת
עלוהי׃
    Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.     Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting; neither were instruments of music brought before him: and his sleep fled from him.     Then the king went to his great house, and took no food that night, and no ... were placed before him, and his sleep went from him.
 
19.    באדין  מלכא 
בשפרפרא  יקום
בנגהא  ובהתבהלה
לגבא  די־אריותא

20.    וכמקרבה  לגבא 
לדניאל  בקל  עציב
זעק  ענה  מלכא  ואמר

אלהא  חיא  אלהך  די
אנתה  פלח־לה
בתדירא  היכל
לשיזבותך  מן־
אריותא׃
    And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?     When he came near to the den to Daniel, he cried with a lamentable voice; the king spoke and said to Daniel, Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions?     And when he came near the hole where Daniel was, he gave a loud cry of grief; the king made answer and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whose servant you are at all times, able to keep you safe from the lions?
 
21.    אדין  דניאל 
עם־מלכא  מלל  מלכא
לעלמין  חיי׃
    Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.     Then said Daniel to the king, O king, live forever.     Then Daniel said to the king, O King, have life for ever.
 
22.    אלהי  שלח  מלאכה 
וסגר  פם  אריותא
ולא  חבלוני  כל־קבל
די  קדמוהי  זכו
השתכחת  לי  ואף
קדמיך  מלכא  חבולה
לא  עבדת׃
    My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.     My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions' mouths, and they have not hurt me; because as before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, have I done no hurt.     My God has sent his angel to keep the lions' mouths shut, and they have done me no damage: because I was seen to be without sin before him; and further, before you, O King, I have done no wrong.
 
23.    באדין  מלכא  שגיא 
טאב  עלוהי  ולדניאל
אמר  להנסקה  מן־גבא
והסק  דניאל  מן־גבא
וכל־חבל  לא־השתכח
בה  די  הימן  באלהה׃
    Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.     Then was the king exceeding glad, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. 24.    ואמר  מלכא  והיתיו 
גבריא  אלך  די־אכלו
קרצוהי  די  דניאל
ולגב  אריותא  רמו
אנון  בניהון
ונשיהון  ולא־מטו
לארעית  גבא  עד
די־שלטו  בהון
אריותא
וכל־גרמיהון  הדקו׃

שלמכון  ישגא׃
    Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.     Then king Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.     Then King Darius sent a letter to all the peoples, nations, and languages, living in all the earth: May your peace be increased.
 
26.    מן־קדמי  שים  טעם 
די  בכל־שלטן
מלכותי  להון  זאעין
ודחלין  מן־קדם
אלהה  די־דניאל
די־הוא  אלהא  חיא
וקים  לעלמין
ומלכותה  די־לא
תתחבל  ושלטנה
עד־סופא׃
    I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.     I make a decree, that in all the dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel; for he is the living God, and steadfast forever, His kingdom that which shall not be destroyed; and his dominion shall be even to the end.     It is my order that in all the kingdom of which I am ruler, men are to be shaking with fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, unchanging for ever, and his kingdom is one which will never come to destruction, his rule will go on to the end.
 
27.    משיזב  ומצל  ועבד 
אתין  ותמהין  בשמיא
ובארעא  די  שיזיב
לדניאל  מן־  יד
אריותא׃
    He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.     He delivers and rescues, and he works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.     He gives salvation and makes men free from danger, and does signs and wonders in heaven and earth, who has kept Daniel safe from the power of the lions.
 
28.    ודניאל  דנה  הצלח 
במלכות  דריוש
ובמלכות  כורש
פרסיא׃
    So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.     So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.     So this Daniel did well in the kingdom of Darius and in the kingdom of Cyrus the Persian.
