לא־תראה את־שור אחיך או את־שיו נדחים והתעלמת מהם השב תשיבם לאחיך׃ |
Thou shalt not see thy brother's ox or his sheep go astray, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt in any case bring them again unto thy brother. | You shall not see your brother's ox or his sheep go astray, and hide yourself from them: you shall surely bring them again to your brother. | If you see your brother's ox or his sheep wandering, do not go by without helping, but take them back to your brother. | |||

ואם־לא קרוב אחיך אליך ולא ידעתו ואספתו אל־תוך ביתך והיה עמך עד דרש אחיך אתו והשבתו לו׃ |
And if thy brother be not nigh unto thee, or if thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine own house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother seek after it, and thou shalt restore it to him again. | If your brother isn't near to you, or if you don't know him, then you shall bring it home to your house, and it shall be with you until your brother seek after it, and you shall restore it to him. | If their owner is not near, or if you are not certain who he is, then take the beast to your house and keep it till its owner comes in search of it, and then you are to give it back to him. | |||

וכן תעשה לחמרו וכן תעשה לשמלתו וכן תעשה לכל־אבדת אחיך אשר־ תאבד ממנו ומצאתה לא תוכל להתעלם׃ |
In like manner shalt thou do with his ass; and so shalt thou do with his raiment; and with all lost thing of thy brother's, which he hath lost, and thou hast found, shalt thou do likewise: thou mayest not hide thyself. | So you shall do with his donkey; and so you shall do with his garment; and so you shall do with every lost thing of your brother's, which he has lost, and you have found: you may not hide yourself. | Do the same with his ass or his robe or anything which has gone from your brother's keeping and which you have come across: do not keep it to yourself. | |||

לא־תראה את־חמור אחיך או שורו נפלים בדרך והתעלמת מהם הקם תקים עמו׃ |
Thou shalt not see thy brother's ass or his ox fall down by the way, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt surely help him to lift them up again. | You shall not see your brother's donkey or his ox fallen down by the way, and hide yourself from them: you shall surely help him to lift them up again. | If you see your brother's ox or his ass falling down on the road, do not go by without giving him help in lifting it up again. | |||

לא־יהיה כלי־גבר על־אשה ולא־ילבש גבר שמלת אשה כי תועבת יהוה אלהיך כל־עשה אלה׃ |
The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God. | A woman shall not wear men's clothing, neither shall a man put on women's clothing; for whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh your God. | It is not right for a woman to be dressed in man's clothing, or for a man to put on a woman's robe: whoever does such things is disgusting to the Lord your God. | |||

כי יקרא קן־צפור לפניך בדרך בכל־עץ או על־הארץ אפרחים או ביצים והאם רבצת על־האפרחים או על־הביצים לא־תקח האם על־הבנים׃ |
If a bird's nest chance to be before thee in the way in any tree, or on the ground, whether they be young ones, or eggs, and the dam sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, thou shalt not take the dam with the young: | If a bird's nest chance to be before you in the way, in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs, and the hen sitting on the young, or on the eggs, you shall not take the hen with the young: | If by chance you see a place which a bird has made for itself in a tree or on the earth, with young ones or eggs, and the mother bird seated on the young ones or on the eggs, do not take the mother bird with the young: | |||

שלח תשלח את־האם ואת־הבנים תקח־לך למען ייטב לך והארכת ימים׃ |
But thou shalt in any wise let the dam go, and take the young to thee; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days. | you shall surely let the hen go, but the young you may take to yourself; that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days. | See that you let the mother bird go, but the young ones you may take; so it will be well for you and your life will be long. | |||

כי תבנה בית חדש ועשית מעקה לגגך ולא־תשים דמים בביתך כי־יפל הנפל ממנו׃ |
When thou buildest a new house, then thou shalt make a battlement for thy roof, that thou bring not blood upon thine house, if any man fall from thence. | When you build a new house, then you shall make a battlement for your roof, that you don't bring blood on your house, if any man fall from there. | If you are building a house, make a railing for the roof, so that the blood of any man falling from it will not come on your house. | |||

לא־תזרע כרמך כלאים פן־תקדש המלאה הזרע אשר תזרע ותבואת הכרם׃ |
Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with divers seeds: lest the fruit of thy seed which thou hast sown, and the fruit of thy vineyard, be defiled. | You shall not sow your vineyard with two kinds of seed, lest the whole fruit be forfeited, the seed which you have sown, and the increase of the vineyard. | Do not have your vine-garden planted with two sorts of seed: or all of it may become a loss, the seed you have put in as well as the increase. | |||

לא־תחרש בשור־ובחמר יחדו׃ |
Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together. | You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey together. | Do not do your ploughing with an ox and an ass yoked together. | |||

לא תלבש שעטנז צמר ופשתים יחדו׃ |
Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woollen and linen together. | You shall not wear a mixed stuff, wool and linen together. | Do not have clothing made of two sorts of thread, wool and linen together. | |||

גדלים תעשה־לך על־ארבע כנפות כסותך אשר תכסה־בה׃ |
Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself. | You shall make yourselves fringes{or, tassles} on the four borders of your cloak, with which you cover yourself. | On the four edges of your robe, with which your body is covered, put ornaments of twisted threads. | |||

כי־יקח איש אשה ובא אליה ושנאה׃ |
If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her, | If any man takes a wife, and goes in to her, and hates her, | If any man takes a wife, and having had connection with her, has no delight in her, | |||

ושם לה עלילת דברים והוצא עליה שם רע ואמר את־האשה הזאת לקחתי ואקרב אליה ולא־מצאתי לה בתולים׃ |
And give occasions of speech against her, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid: | and accuses her of shameful things, and brings up an evil name on her, and says, "I took this woman, and when I came near to her, I didn't find in her the tokens of virginity;" | And says evil things about her and gives her a bad name, saying, I took this woman, and when I had connection with her it was clear to me that she was not a virgin: | |||

ולקח אבי הנער ואמה והוציאו את־בתולי הנער אל־זקני העיר השערה׃ |
Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate: | then shall the father of the young lady, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the young lady's virginity to the elders of the city in the gate; | Then let the girl's father and mother put before the responsible men of the town, in the public place, signs that the girl was a virgin: | |||

ואמר אבי הנער אל־הזקנים את־בתי נתתי לאיש הזה לאשה וישנאה׃ |
And the damsel's father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her; | and the young lady's father shall tell the elders, "I gave my daughter to this man to wife, and he hates her; | And let the girl's father say to the responsible men, I gave my daughter to this man for his wife, but he has no love for her; | |||

והנה־הוא שם עלילת דברים לאמר לא־מצאתי לבתך בתולים ואלה בתולי בתי ופרשו השמלה לפני זקני העיר׃ |
And, lo, he hath given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a maid; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city. | and behold, he has accused her of shameful things, saying, 'I didn't find in your daughter the tokens of virginity;' and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity." They shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city. | And now he has put shame on her, saying that she is not a virgin; but here is the sign that she is a virgin. Then they are to put her clothing before the responsible men of the town. | |||

ולקחו זקני העיר־ההוא את־האיש ויסרו אתו׃ |
And the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise him; | The elders of that city shall take the man and chastise him; | Then the responsible men of the town are to give the man his punishment; | |||

וענשו אתו מאה כסף ונתנו לאבי הנערה כי הוציא שם רע על בתולת ישראל ולו־תהיה לאשה לא־יוכל לשלחה כל־ימיו׃ |
And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days. | and they shall fine him one hundred [shekels] of silver, and give them to the father of the young lady, because he has brought up an evil name on a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days. | They will take from him a hundred shekels of silver, which are to be given to the father of the girl, because he has given an evil name to a virgin of Israel: she will go on being his wife, he may never put her away all his life. | |||

ואם־אמת היה הדבר הזה לא־נמצאו בתולים לנער׃ |
But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel: | But if this thing be true, that the tokens of virginity were not found in the young lady; | But if what he has said is true, and she is seen to be not a virgin, | |||

והוציאו את־הנער אל־פתח בית־אביה וסקלוה אנשי עירה באבנים ומתה כי־עשתה נבלה בישראל לזנות בית אביה ובערת הרע מקרבך׃ |
Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you. | then they shall bring out the young lady to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones, because she has done folly in Israel, to play the prostitute in her father's house: so you shall put away the evil from the midst of you. | Then they are to make the girl come to the door of her father's house and she will be stoned to death by the men of the town, because she has done evil and put shame on Israel, by acting as a loose woman in her father's house: so you are to put away evil from among you. | |||

כי־ימצא איש שכב עם־אשה בעלת־בעל ומתו גם־שניהם האיש השכב עם־ האשה והאשה ובערת הרע מישראל׃ |
If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel. | If a man be found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they shall both of them die, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman: so you shall put away the evil from Israel. | If a man is taken in the act of going in to a married woman, the two of them, the man as well as the woman, are to be put to death: so you are to put away the evil from Israel. | |||

כי יהיה נער בתולה מארשה לאיש ומצאה איש בעיר ושכב עמה׃ |
If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; | If there is a young lady who is a virgin pledged to be married to a husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; | If a young virgin has given her word to be married to a man, and another man meeting her in the town, has connection with her; | |||

והוצאתם את־שניהם אל־שער העיר ההוא וסקלתם אתם באבנים ומתו את־ הנער על־דבר אשר לא־צעקה בעיר ואת־האיש על־דבר אשר־ענה את־אשת רעהו ובערת הרע מקרבך׃ |
Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you. | then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them to death with stones; the lady, because she didn't cry, being in the city; and the man, because he has humbled his neighbor's wife: so you shall put away the evil from the midst of you. | Then you are to take the two of them to the doorway of the town, and have them stoned to death; the young virgin, because she gave no cry for help, though it was in the town, and the man, because he has put shame on his neighbour's wife: so you are to put away evil from among you. | |||

ואם־בשדה ימצא האיש את־הנער המארשה והחזיק־בה האיש ושכב עמה ומת האיש אשר־שכב עמה לבדו׃ |
But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die: | But if the man find the lady who is pledged to be married in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her; then the man only who lay with her shall die: | But if the man, meeting such a virgin in the open country, takes her by force, then only the man is to be put to death; | |||

ולנער לא־תעשה דבר אין לנער חטא מות כי כאשר יקום איש על־רעהו ורצחו נפש כן הדבר הזה׃ |
But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter: | but to the lady you shall do nothing; there is in the lady no sin worthy of death: for as when a man rises against his neighbor, and kills him, even so is this matter; | Nothing is to be done to the virgin, because there is no cause of death in her: it is the same as if a man made an attack on his neighbour and put him to death: | |||

כי בשדה מצאה צעקה הנער המארשה ואין מושיע לה׃ |
For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her. | for he found her in the field, the pledged to be married lady cried, and there was none to save her. | For he came across her in the open country, and there was no one to come to the help of the virgin in answer to her cry. | |||

כי־ימצא איש נער בתולה אשר לא־ארשה ותפשה ושכב עמה ונמצאו׃ |
If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; | If a man find a lady who is a virgin, who is not pledged to be married, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; | If a man sees a young virgin, who has not given her word to be married to anyone, and he takes her by force and has connection with her, and discovery is made of it; | |||

ונתן האיש השכב עמה לאבי הנער חמשים כסף ולו־תהיה לאשה תחת אשר ענה לא־יוכל שלחה כל־ימיו׃ |
Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days. | then the man who lay with her shall give to the lady's father fifty [shekels] of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has humbled her; he may not put her away all his days. | Then the man will have to give the virgin's father fifty shekels of silver and make her his wife, because he has put shame on her; he may never put her away all his life. | |||

לא־יקח איש את־אשת אביו ולא יגלה כנף אביו׃ |
A man shall not take his father's wife, nor discover his father's skirt. | A man shall not take his father's wife, and shall not uncover his father's skirt. | A man may not take his father's wife or have sex relations with a woman who is his father's. | |||
