| 1. | {A Psalm by David.} Yahweh, I have called on you. Come to me quickly! Listen to my voice when I call to you. |
A Psalm. Of David. Lord, I have made my cry to you; come to me quickly; give ear to my voice, when it goes up to you. |
Lord, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee. | ||
| 2. | Let my prayer be set before you like incense; the lifting up of my hands like the evening sacrifice. | Let my prayer be ordered before you like a sweet smell; and let the lifting up of my hands be like the evening offering. | Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. | ||
| 3. | Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips. | O Lord, keep a watch over my mouth; keep the door of my lips. | Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. | ||
| 4. | Don't incline my heart to any evil thing, to practice deeds of wickedness with men who work iniquity. Don't let me eat of their delicacies. | Keep my heart from desiring any evil thing, or from taking part in the sins of the evil-doers with men who do wrong: and let me have no part in their good things. | Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties. | ||
| 5. | Let the righteous strike me, it is kindness; let him reprove me, it is like oil on the head; don't let my head refuse it; Yet my prayer is always against evil deeds. | Let the upright give me punishment; and let the god-fearing man put me in the right way; but I will not let the oil of sinners come on my head: when they do evil I will give myself to prayer. | Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities. | ||
| 6. | Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the rock. They will hear my words, for they are well spoken. | When destruction comes to their judges by the side of the rock, they will give ear to my words, for they are sweet. | When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet. | ||
| 7. | "As when one plows and breaks up the earth, our bones are scattered at the mouth of Sheol{Sheol is the place of the dead.}." | Our bones are broken up at the mouth of the underworld, as the earth is broken by the plough. | Our bones are scattered at the grave's mouth, as when one cutteth and cleaveth wood upon the earth. | ||
| 8. | For my eyes are on you, Yahweh, the Lord. In you, I take refuge. Don't leave my soul destitute. | But my eyes are turned to you, O Lord God: my hope is in you; let not my soul be given up to death. | But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute. | ||
| 9. | Keep me from the snare which they have laid for me, from the traps of the workers of iniquity. | Keep me from the net which they have put down for me, and from the designs of the workers of evil. | Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity. | ||
| 10. | Let the wicked fall together into their own nets, while I pass by. | Let the sinners be taken in the nets which they themselves have put down, while I go free. | Let the wicked fall into their own nets, whilst that I withal escape. | ||
