| 1. | {A Psalm by Asaph.} The Mighty One, God, Yahweh, speaks, and calls the earth from sunrise to sunset. |
A Psalm. Of Asaph. The God of gods, even the Lord, has sent out his voice, and the earth is full of fear; from the coming up of the sun to its going down. |
The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof. | ||
| 2. | Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth. | From Zion, most beautiful of places, God has sent out his light. | Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined. | ||
| 3. | Our God comes, and does not keep silent. A fire devours before him. It is very stormy around him. | Our God will come, and will not keep quiet; with fire burning before him, and storm-winds round him. | Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. | ||
| 4. | He calls to the heavens above, to the earth, that he may judge his people: | His voice will go out to the heavens and to the earth, for the judging of his people: | He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. | ||
| 5. | "Gather my saints together to me, those who have made a covenant with me by sacrifice." | Let my saints come together to me; those who have made an agreement with me by offerings. | Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. | ||
| 6. | The heavens shall declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge. Selah. | And let the heavens make clear his righteousness; for God himself is the judge. (Selah.) | And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah. | ||
| 7. | "Hear, my people, and I will speak; Israel, and I will testify against you. | 8. | I don't rebuke you for your sacrifices. | 9. | I have no need for a bull from your stall, nor male goats from your pens. | I will take no ox out of your house, or he-goats from your flocks; | I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds. | ||
| 10. | For every animal of the forest is mine, and the livestock on a thousand hills. | For every beast of the woodland is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. | For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. | ||
| 11. | I know all the birds of the mountains. The wild animals of the field are mine. | I see all the birds of the mountains, and the beasts of the field are mine. | I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. | ||
| 12. | If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it. | If I had need of food, I would not give you word of it; for the earth is mine and all its wealth. | If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof. | ||
| 13. | Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? | Am I to take the flesh of the ox for my food, or the blood of goats for my drink? | Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? | ||
| 14. | Offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgiving. Pay your vows to the Most High. | Make an offering of praise to God; keep the agreements which you have made with the Most High; | Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: | ||
| 15. | Call on me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you will honor me." | Let your voice come up to me in the day of trouble; I will be your saviour, so that you may give glory to me. | And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. | ||
| 16. | But to the wicked God says, "What right do you have to declare my statutes, that you have taken my covenant on your lips, | But to the sinner, God says, What are you doing, talking of my laws, or taking the words of my agreement in your mouth? | But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth? | ||
| 17. | seeing you hate instruction, and throw my words behind you? | Seeing that you have no desire for my teaching, turning your back on my words. | Seeing thou hatest instruction, and casteth my words behind thee. | ||
| 18. | When you saw a thief, you consented with him, and have participated with adulterers. | When you saw a thief, you were in agreement with him, and you were joined with those who took other men's wives. | When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers. | ||
| 19. | "You give your mouth to evil. Your tongue frames deceit. | You have given your mouth to evil, your tongue to words of deceit. | Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit. | ||
| 20. | You sit and speak against your brother. You slander your own mother's son. | You say evil of your brother; you make false statements against your mother's son. | Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's son. | ||
| 21. | You have done these things, and I kept silent. You thought that the I was just like you. I will rebuke you, and accuse you in front of your eyes. | These things have you done, and I said nothing; it seemed to you that I was such a one as yourself; but I will make a protest against you, and put them in order before your eyes. | These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes. | ||
| 22. | "Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you into pieces, and there be none to deliver. | Now keep this in mind, you who have no memory of God, for fear that you may be crushed under my hand, with no one to give you help: | Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver. | ||
| 23. | Whoever offers the sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifies me, and prepares his way so that I will show God's salvation to him." | Whoever makes an offering of praise gives glory to me; and to him who is upright in his ways I will make clear the salvation of God. | Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God. | ||
