| 1. | Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest. ועתה מה־יש תחת־ידך חמשה־לחם תנה בידי או הנמצא׃ |

| 4. | The priest answered David, and said, "There is no common bread under my hand, but there is holy bread; if only the young men have kept themselves from women." | And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women. |
ויען הכהן את־דוד ויאמר אין־לחם חל אל־תחת ידי כי־אם־לחם קדש יש אם־נשמרו הנערים אך מאשה׃ |

| 5. | David answered the priest, and said to him, "Truly, women have been kept from us about these three days. When I came out, the vessels of the young men were holy, though it was but a common journey. How much more then today shall their vessels be holy?" | And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel. |
ויען דוד את־הכהן ויאמר לו כי אם־אשה עצרה־לנו כתמול שלשם בצאתי ויהיו כלי־הנערים קדש והוא דרך חל ואף כי היום יקדש בכלי׃ |

Didn't they sing one to another about him in dances, saying, 'Saul has slain his thousands, David his ten thousands?'" | And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands? |
ויאמרו עבדי אכיש אליו הלוא־זה דוד מלך הארץ הלוא לזה יענו במחלות לאמר הכה שאול באלפו ודוד ברבבתו׃ |
