| 1. * | سورة الشمس بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ والشمس وضحاها | swr+ al$ms bsm allh alrHmn alrHym ? wal$ms wDHaha | And/by the sun and its sunrise/day light. | By the sun and its brightness. | By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; | ||||
| 2. * | والقمر اذا تلاها | walqmr aXa tlaha | And/by the moon when/if it followed it. | The moon that follows it. | By the Moon as she follows him; | ||||
| 3. * | والنهار اذا جلاها | walnhar aXa jlaha | And/by the daytime when/if it shined/revealed it. | The day that reveals. | By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; | ||||
| 4. * | والليل اذا يغشاها | wallyl aXa yG$aha | And/by the night when/if it covers/darkens it. | The night that covers. | By the Night as it conceals it; | ||||
| 5. * | والسماء ومابناها | walsma' wmabnaha | And/by the sky/space and who built/constructed it. | The sky and Him who built it. | By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; | ||||
| 6. * | والارض وماطحاها | walarD wmaTHaha | And/by the earth/Planet Earth and who spread and extended it. | The earth and Him who sustains it. | By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: | ||||
| 7. * | ونفس وماسواها | wnfs wmaswaha | And/by a self and who straightened it. | The soul and Him who created it. | By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; | ||||
| 8. * | فالهمها فجورها وتقواها | falhmha fjwrha wtqwaha | So He inspired/transmitted (to) it its debauchery/corruption, and its fear and obedience of God. | Then showed it what is evil and what is good. | And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- | ||||
| 9. * | قد افلح من زكاها | qd aflH mn zkaha | Who purified/corrected it had succeeded/won. | Successful is one who redeems it. | Truly he succeeds that purifies it, | ||||
| 10. * | وقد خاب من دساها | wqd Kab mn dsaha | And who buried it/plotted against it (corrupted it) had failed/despaired. | Failing is one who neglects it. | And he fails that corrupts it! | ||||
| 11. * | كذبت ثمود بطغواها | kXbt xmwd bTGwaha | Thamud had lied/denied/falsified with its own tyranny/excess of the limit. | Thamoud's disbelief caused them to transgress. | The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, | ||||
| 12. * | اذ انبعث اشقاها | aX anb`x a$qaha | When/if its most miserable/unhappy stirred up/urged. | They followed the worst among them. | Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). | ||||
| 13. * | فقال لهم رسول الله ناقة الله وسقياها | fqal lhm rswl allh naq+ allh wsqyaha | So God's messenger said to them: "God's female camel, and its drink/drinking (water)." | GOD's messenger said to them, "This is GOD's camel; let her drink." | But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah. And (bar her not from) having her drink!" | ||||
| 14. * | فكذبوه فعقروها فدمدم عليهم ربهم بذنبهم فسواها | fkXbwh f`qrwha fdmdm `lyhm rbhm bXnbhm fswaha | So they denied him, so they wounded it/slaughtered it/made it infertile, so their Lord became angry/destroyed on them because of their crime, so He straightened it. | They disbelieved him and slaughtered her. Their Lord then requited them for their sin and annihilated them. | Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! | ||||
| 15. * | ولايخاف عقباها | wlayKaf `qbaha | And He does not fear its end/turn (result). | Yet, those who came after them remain heedless. | And for Him is no fear of its consequences. | ||||
