By the break of Day
|
|
By the dawn.
|
|
سورة الفجر بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛـــــــ والفجر

And/by the dawn
|
|
|
|
Waalfajri
|
|
2. * |
By the Nights twice five;
|
|
And the ten nights.
|
|
وليال عشر
|
|
And/by ten nights.
|
|
|
|
Walayalin AAashrin
|
|
3. * |
By the even and odd (contrasted);
|
|
By the even and the odd.
|
|
والشفع والوتر
|
|
And/by the double/even number, and the odd/singular/uneven.
|
|
|
|
WaalshshafAAi waalwatri
|
|
4. * |
And by the Night when it passeth away;-
|
|
By the night as it passes.
|
|
والليل اذا يسر
|
|
And/by the night when (it) goes/departs.
|
|
|
|
Waallayli ithayasri
|
|
5. * |
Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand?
|
|
A profound oath, for one who possesses intelligence.
|
|
هل في ذلك قسم لذي حجر
|
|
Is in that an oath to (those) of (E) a mind?
|
|
|
|
Hal feethalika qasamun litheehijrin
|
|
6. * |
Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),-
|
|
Have you noted what your Lord did to `Aad?
|
|
الم تر كيف فعل ربك بعاد
|
|
Did you not see/understand how your Lord made/did with Aad?
|
|
|
|
Alam tara kayfa faAAala rabbuka biAAadin
|
|
7. * |
Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars,
|
|
Erum; the town with tall buildings.
|
|
ارم ذات العماد
|
|
Iram that of the pillars/posts ?
|
|
|
|
Iramathati alAAimadi
|
|
8. * |
The like of which were not produced in (all) the land?
|
|
There was nothing like it anywhere.
|
|
التي لم يخلق مثلها في البلاد
|
|
Which was not created similar/equal to it in the countries/cities ?
|
|
|
|
Allatee lam yukhlaq mithluhafee albiladi
|
|
9. * |
And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?-
|
|
Also Thamoud, who carved the rocks in their valley.
|
|
وثمود الذين جابوا الصخر بالواد
|
|
And Thamud who pierced/penetrated the rock/rock terrain at the valley?
|
|
|
|
Wathamooda allatheena jaboo alssakhra bialwadi
|
|
10. * |
And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes?
|
|
And Pharaoh who possessed might.
|
|
وفرعون ذي الاوتاد
|
|
And Pharaoh that of the stakes/pegs/nails ?
|
|
|
|
WafirAAawnathee al-awtadi
|
|
11. * |
(All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands,
|
|
They all transgressed in the land.
|
|
الذين طغوا في البلاد
|
|
Those who tyrannized/exceeded the limit in the countries/cities.
|
|
|
|
Allatheenataghaw fee albiladi
|
|
12. * |
And heaped therein mischief (on mischief).
|
|
They spread evil throughout.
|
|
فاكثروا فيها الفساد
|
|
So they increased (made too much) in it the corruption.
|
|
|
|
Faaktharoo feehaalfasada
|
|
13. * |
Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements:
|
|
Consequently, your Lord poured upon them a whipping retribution.
|
|
فصب عليهم ربك سوط عذاب
|
|
So your Lord poured on them (the) torture's intensity/severity.
|
|
|
|
Fasabba AAalayhim rabbuka sawta AAathabin
|
|
14. * |
For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower.
|
|
Your Lord is ever watchful.
|
|
ان ربك لبالمرصاد
|
|
That truly your Lord (is) at the watch/observation/ambuscade (E).
|
|
|
|
Inna rabbaka labialmirsadi
|
|
15. * |
Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me."
|
|
When the human being is tested by his Lord, through blessings and joy, he says, "My Lord is generous towards me."
|
|
فاما الانسان اذا ماابتلاه ربه فاكرمه ونعمه فيقول ربي اكرمن
|
|
So but the human/mankind when as long as his Lord tested him, so he honoured him and He blessed/comforted and eased him, so he says: "My Lord honored me."
|
|
|
|
Faammaal-insanu ithamaibtalahu rabbuhu faakramahu wanaAAAAamahu fayaqoolu rabbee akramani
|
|
16. * |
But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!"
|
|
But if He tests him through reduction in provisions, he says, "My Lord is humiliating me!"
|
|
واما اذا ماابتلاه فقدر عليه رزقه فيقول ربي اهانن
|
|
And but when as long as He tested him, so He tightened/strained on him His/his provision, so he says: "My Lord humiliated/disgraced/degraded me."
|
|
|
|
Waammaithamaibtalahu faqadara AAalayhi rizqahu fayaqoolu rabbee ahanani
|
|
17. * |
Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans!
|
|
Wrong! It is you who brought it on yourselves by not regarding the orphan.
|
|
كلا بل لاتكرمون اليتيم
|
|
No but, you do not honour/be kind/generous (to) the orphan.
|
|
|
|
Kallabal latukrimoona alyateema
|
|
18. * |
Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!-
|
|
And not advocating charity towards the poor.
|
|
ولاتحاضون على طعام المسكين
|
|
And nor you urge/insight/influence on feeding the poorest of poor/poor oppressed.
|
|
|
|
Walatahaddoona AAalataAAami almiskeeni
|
|
19. * |
And ye devour inheritance - all with greed,
|
|
And consuming the inheritance of helpless orphans.
|
|
وتاكلون التراث اكلا لما
|
|
And you eat the inheritance accumulatively/collectively gluttony.
|
|
|
|
Wata\kuloona altturatha aklan lamman
|
|
20. * |
And ye love wealth with inordinate love!
|
|
And loving the money too much.
|
|
وتحبون المال حبا جما
|
|
And you love/like the property/possession/wealth lovingly excessively.
|
|
|
|
Watuhibboona almalahubban jamman
|
|
21. * |
Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder,
|
|
Indeed, when the earth is crushed, utterly crushed.
|
|
كلا اذا دكت الارض دكا دكا
|
|
No but, when/if the earth/Planet Earth was hammered down/crushed, crushingly/destroyingly,crushingly/destroyingly.
|
|
|
|
Kallaithadukkati al-ardu dakkan dakkan
|
|
22. * |
And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank,
|
|
And your Lord comes, together with the angels in row after row.
|
|
وجاء ربك والملك صفا صفا
|
|
And your Lord came and the angels (in) a row/arranged (after) a row/arranged.
|
|
|
|
Wajaa rabbuka waalmalakusaffansaffan
|
|
23. * |
And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him?
|
|
On that day, Gehenna will be brought forth. On that day, the human being will remember - but what a remembrance - it will be too late.
|
|
وجيئ يومئذ بجهنم يومئذ يتذكر الانسان وانى له الذكرى
|
|
And came (on) that day with Hell ; that day the human/mankind remembers/mentions, and from where (is) for him the remembrance/reminder?
|
|
|
|
Wajee-a yawma-ithin bijahannama yawma-ithin yatathakkaru al-insanu waannalahu alththikra
|
|
24. * |
He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!"
|
|
He will say, "Oh, I wish I prepared for my (eternal) life."
|
|
يقول ياليتني قدمت لحياتي
|
|
He says: "Oh if only I advanced/presented/preceded for my life."
|
|
|
|
Yaqoolu yalaytanee qaddamtu lihayatee
|
|
25. * |
For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict,
|
|
On that day, no retribution could be worse than His retribution.
|
|
فيومئذ لايعذب عذابه احد
|
|
So (on) that day no one tortures His torture.
|
|
|
|
Fayawma-ithin layuAAaththibu AAathabahu ahadun
|
|
26. * |
And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind.
|
|
And no confinement is as effective as His confinement.
|
|
ولايوثق وثاقه احد
|
|
And no one ties/chains/affirms His tying/chaining (restraining).
|
|
|
|
Walayoothiqu wathaqahu ahadun
|
|
27. * |
(To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction!
|
|
As for you, O content soul.
|
|
ياايتها النفس المطمئنة
|
|
You, you the self, the assured/tranquil.
|
|
|
|
Yaayyatuhaalnnafsu almutma-innatu
|
|
28. * |
"Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him!
|
|
Return to your Lord, pleased and pleasing.
|
|
ارجعي الى ربك راضية مرضية
|
|
Return to your Lord accepting/approving, accepted/approved.
|
|
|
|
IrjiAAee ilarabbiki radiyatan mardiyyatan
|
|
29. * |
"Enter thou, then, among My devotees!
|
|
Welcome into My servants.
|
|
فادخلي في عبادي
|
|
So enter in (among) My worshippers/servants.
|
|
|
|
Faodkhulee fee AAibadee
|
|
30. * |
"Yea, enter thou My Heaven!
|
|
Welcome into My Paradise.
|
|
وادخلي جنتي
|
|
And enter My treed garden/paradise.469
|
|
|
|
Waodkhulee jannatee
|
|
